I'm having a hard time reviewing this restaurant. The staff was out of this world friendly but I went for food and it definitely didn't win me over. I paid the bill not thinking only to find we were overcharged for one expensive alcoholic beverage. I ordered the Caesar salad and received an amazing tableside service. My Caesar tasted fantastic. I also ordered a side of rosemary risotto and was going to share just a couple of bites of my husband's filet mignon. My risotto was completely cold so I sent it back and didn't ask for a replacement as if you've ever had cold rosemary once, you likely never want to do it again. My husband's filet mignon was ordered medium and it came out well done and tasting worse than a hamburger. We sent it back and received one that was still mooing and still tasted awful. I don't know if it's the way the cook it but it tasted gritty. I did get the lemon berry cake, I believe was the name of it, to go and everybody else ate it for me and expressed how good it was. My husband had the shrimp cocktail and said it was also good. For the price, I probably wouldn't return but for the environment I probably would. I have simply learned that a steak is not their forte. read more

First time here. Two fish and chip dinners, good stuff. Quite a nice selection of IPAs . We opted for eating outside on the deck. It felt so perfect, nice breeze, not too warm, no bugs, good service and good food. We'll be back for the Caesar salad for sure. read more

Very cool place..something out of the ordinary for sure.tucked by a small lake in troy.it offers great views,outdoor seating.the inside is clean,nice,nautical theme.even a boat in the entrance. Food was a little pricey.has a ceasar salad for two made tableside which includes a history lesson on said salad.i grazed on beer cheese served with baguette slices..tasty.i however found my clam chowder cool,thick more like potato soup clams we're MIA.. What a hidden gem! Great service and wonderful food and cocktails. I ordered the jumbo sea scallops which were amazing. They had this awesome bacon marmalade and greens (that were perfectly crisped). The Bee's Knees cocktail was refreshing too. read more

Avast ye lubbers! Lots of inconsistencies here. Plays like a high end restaurant with high prices. Seated 30 minutes late with reservation, ran out of beer I wanted, ran out of salmon wife wanted, wilted flowers on table, beer glass was hot, music too loud. Very good food. Nice atmosphere. Had the grilled pork chop with pineapple cherry chutney. Well flavored piece of meat served with a lemon risotto. All in our party of 8 seemed to enjoy their entrees. I would recommend this place for a special occasion or just a nice evening meal. read more

The filet mignon with the red wine sauce is to die for. I enjoyed it paired with the the gratin dauphinois. The table side Caesar salad is a must when eating at Smith's. The ambience is nice and the views next to the river are gorgeous. If the weather is right, you should spend the evening eating dinner on the large outdoor deck. I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 due to the hair I found in my food. It was rectified, however it soured my experience a bit. read more

A coupon brought us in but the food will bring us back. We loved every bite! My husband had the perfectly cooked and flavorful scallops accompanied by the best scalloped potatoes I have ever tasted. Have heard a lot about the Boathouse Restaurant and most has been quite positive. Went for the first time last night (Friday). While I'm not really a food guy and food is food to me, I ordered the Walleye which was laid over a bed of linguini. It was pretty good. . . .again, to me it was food. As far as the food goes, I'd go here again. The biggest negative issue was the length of time it took to get our food. We arrived at 6:30 and were served our food at 8:30. Our Server apologized and gave us a free drink and desert. I don't know what happened, but I have heard others voice some displeasure over the same issue. So I'd give the food a 3 (remember, I'm food agnostic). . . the server a 4 and the service a 1. read more

Boat house is just to expensive for what you get. Entrees will run over 30 dollars per plate for Items like fried walley... fried fish for 32.00 dollars, you've got to be kidding em. I really really want to love this place (location, feel, ambiance) but i just can't. There cook just doesn't have the skills to produce 30+ meals. There were six of us celebrating a birthday this past Saturday night. Reservations for 5:30 were made earlier in the week asking to be seated outside. When we got there we were told there wasn't a table big enough to accommodate all of us outside. So, they put us at the table right at the transistion between the bar and dining area. LOUD! LOUD! LOUD! You could not talk nor could the waitress hear our orders. The owner came over before our food arrived and asked how we were doing. I said, "Why do you take reservations if you aren't going to honor them? You don't put the table aside for that party?" He said with a flippant attitude - "there isn't any guarentee to sitting outside and that's the way it is, sorry." A few minutes later he came back and did this hokey rendition of making/tossing a caesar salad. If I had known they were going to do this - I would not have ordered it. He smashed the anchovies until they were like liquid and added way too many other ingredients. He poured it over the lettuce and tossed it so much that it actually looked as tho the lettuce was wilting before our eyes. The dressing was thick and heavy with no taste of anchovies nor of an authentic caesar dressing. He rambled while doing this production. It was the one time I was glad not to be able to hear over the noise. Our waitress seemed stressed and overworked. Besides our disappointment in the seating, the Owner inserting himself way too much - it was totally overpriced! read more

Would love to give 5 stars. Service was friendly and checked on us regularly even while they had a few big parties. I got the JUMBO scallops. Problem was, they weren't so "jumbo" and you only get THREE scallops. Three. For $31, that's just ridiculous. My wife got the Chicken Oscar which was really good. Atmosphere was great. I will go back to try other dishes, but cannot recommend anyone order the scallops. Way too overpriced for what you get. read more

We love this family owned and operated business! Enjoy your dinner while you sit on the patio over looking the great Miami River. A Lighthouse is part of the view! There is plenty of parking too. Extremely disappointed. Went there for our 10th anniversary. The service was nonexistent. The food was very over priced for the quality. We sent our appetizers back. Had to go looking for our server twice plus asking another to find her. We were not checked upon one time. If this establishment was full we'd understand but it absolutely was not. My family really enjoys the food at Smith's Boathouse Restaurant. I am partial to the salmon and my husband loves the steaks. I love their white French dressing and their desserts are great too. I have been there twice and really can't get enough of this restaurant! It is becoming a hometown favorite and Miami County's best kept secret, but hurry because the secret is getting out! The food is fabulous anything from their family recipe Strip Steak to their fish. I also adore the side table service of the owner, Larry Smith coming to your table to prepare the Caesar's salad. He gives you the history behind the way this particular salad is made and you really get to know the joy and personality of the owner, Larry. He really loves what he is doing and loves serving others. He has hand selected incredible staff for each table and they are really top notch! But, make sure you leave room for dessert or take it home because you do NOT want to miss out! My favorite was Winan's Highlander Grogg coffee chocolate cake. It was divine and the coffee comes from a local coffee shop that is carefully made only for this area! It is a great spot not just for dinner, but lunch meetings as well. They also have the ability to host large groups and the bar staff is phenomenal and make the best drinks, even when you ask them to surprise you! It's a family atmosphere and it can be business casual to dressy. They have a beautiful open view of the river, beautiful trees and park area of Treasure Island. If you are going during the summer, on the weekends or holidays, you need to make a reservation! It is on the higher end of price, but you really get the best quality of food for the price. But, my favorite part of the whole restaurant is the door they have on display in the entryway that is apart of the history of the building and that area of Troy's past. Waited 1-1/2 hours for our food. When it finally came, it was obviously put together quickly - the asparagus was missing the hollandaise sauce, the salmon was missing the orange sauce, the medium well fillet was rare, etc. Felt sorry for the server - she was phenomenal, bringing extra baskets of bread, filling water glasses several times. etc. At the end of the meal, she brought out four desserts ($36 worth!) as an apology, but when we got home and looked over the bill, the desserts were added and then subtracted from our bill, but we paid the 20% gratuity ($7+) on them. If it had not been our daughter's birthday dinner, we would have told them to forget it and left. read more

What a pleasant surprise. Made reservations for our party of 2 and upon arrival where given a choice of the patio or inside. Great night to sit outside, great view of the fountain and the light house Service was pleasant and friendly, enjoyed the mussels as an appetizer, served with extra rolls to sop up the broth. House salads were fresh and crisp and enjoyed the house made white french dressing. My scallops were well cooked and the au gratin potatoes were a nice balance. Took my parents here for my Dad's birthday - fabulous experience! Was really worried because I'm from out of town and had contacted the restaurant via email to make a reservation (because they're not on Open Table - hint! Hint!). We got there and it was packed, my reservation nowhere in sight. Turns out they had me down for the prior evening. My dad quietly suggested we go elsewhere because we thought it would be a long wait. Within minutes they seated us, and the owner came and apologized for the mixup. Super nice guy - totally earned my respect! "Best prime rib I've ever had!" Per my dad. (I thought it was good too). Chicken Piccata could use more lemon, but was tasty. I read about the au gratin potatoes and they lived up to the hype!!! Happy they had a decent kids menu too! White chocolate raspberry cheesecake is amazing - and big enough to share. Overall a great experience. Can't wait to come back in the summer and eat outside on the water!! read more
