I'll preface by stating I'm from Texas on a work trip. I'm not snobbish to think only Texas makes the best BBQ, hence trying Smokehouse 41. Prices are comparable to what I'm used to in TX. I tried the brisket, pork ribs, Cole slaw and BBQ baked beans. I was thankful they did not pre-sauce but had the regular and spicy sauces at the table. Overall the style was similar to Texas other than having tri-tip which I learned later was very Californian. Wish I tried that. The brisket was somewhat dry and had ok flavor. I ended up saucing it to add flavor. The ribs were tender and slightly dry. The slaw lacked what I prefer: more mayonnaise/creamy sauce. The beans were the tastiest part of the meal. Came here on a Friday at around 6:30 and was pretty busy. Line was out the door and the server was there to hand us menus. She was able to explain all menu iteams we had questions about which was nice. We got sent inside about 10 minutes later and same premise, stand in line until it was our turn to order. Line seemed slower than it needed to be but that's just my opinion. Food was reaaaaalllly good. Not a lot of good food options around here but this was definitely worth the wait. After my second plate of brisket, I had to stop and just take a moment to appreciate how much work must go into making all this food. You can taste the hours of effort that go into the smoking process, and that's something I really respect. It's a whole craft, and you can tell they take it seriously here. After a long hike in Yosemite, this is exactly the kind of place you want to land in. You burn a bunch of calories on the trail, then come here to get some much needed protein. They've got plenty of seating, it's comfortable inside, and the temperature is set just right too. Wow! Passed through Oakhurst this past Saturday and the line was out the door! Got my order in about 15 minutes while watching the team behind the counter slicing a lot of meat, making recommendations for the customers, adding the sides, and anything else that was needed. I had the 1/2 pork rib order with a side of slaw and beans. Ribs were AMAZING! Sides were spot on and the house beer was the perfect accompaniment. Also, the portion was on 2 small pieces which was a big letdown for the price, so we had to or an extra portion since it's our favorite cut. Tri tip 3 of 5: lacked in flavor on the meat itself and was dry when we tried it. Kind of expected more since it was talked up so highly. Sausage 4 of 5: full of flavor, juicy, and worth adding to your plate. Brisket Mac and Cheese 5 of 5: if you like Mac and cheese this is good. The meat that lacks the flavor adds a good contrast to the cheese flavor and the noodles were cooked perfectly. Also, add pepper for extra contrast. Coleslaw: 3 of 5: light and refreshing addition to the plate of meat. However, on its own lacks taste and could use a bit more something to be a good side on its own. Loaded Baked Potato w/brisket: 5 of 5: not for the feint or heart or stomach. The Potato is big! If you want to finish it don't order much of anything else. The overall dish is delicious, and with all the additions provides a variety of welcome contrasts in flavor. Bbq Sauces 5 of 5: this does make up the flavor for the meats, however, I can't base the review on the sauces. Excellent flavor for both available sauces on the table. We came around 6:30pm, they have parking in the back as well, the front was pretty packed. There was a long line but it move quickly. You order first and then pay and get your food right after, like most bbq places. We got the 3 meats plate which comes with 2 sides and we added the sausage which was cheese. The three meat plates were tri tip, brisket and pork. The sides were their beans with meat and jalapeño mac and cheese top with bacon. The reason for 3 start, some of the meats were warm to room temperature, sausage was the only one that was really hot. The beans were hot and and mac and cheese was room temperature. The staff were really nice. The overall taste was good, just wished it was hot. The place was busy throughout but we found a seat no problem. Late review: Visited Smokehouse 41 in Coarsegold, and the food really hit the spot. I ordered the chicken sandwich, and it was delicious -- tender, smoky, and full of flavor. The twice baked potato casserole was also excellent -- creamy, well-seasoned, and honestly one of the best sides I've had in a while. The only downside was the line to get in, which was pretty ridiculous. Be prepared to wait a bit. It's similar to other larger places where you order at the counter and they prepare your food for you on the spot before sitting down. Waiter walks around checking on you and refilling drinks. As for the food; large family of 6 with 4 teens we ordered "The Mammoth". 1/2 lb of all the meats they offer and a full rack of pork ribs. Everything was full of smoke flavor. The brisket and the ribs were the stars of the show. The tri-tip was on the drier side but not bad. Pulled chicken was more like chopped chicken and was great when paired with their BBQ sauce. I'm glad I checked this place out after visiting Yosemite. It's a top-tier bbq place in my opinion. I'm very picky when it comes to meat since I'm sensitive to textures and meat can sometimes be inedible to me. However, all the meats I tried here were juicy and tender. We got the pork ribs, tri-tip, and brisket. My favorite was the brisket, it was so tender and jiggly. Pork ribs were my next favorite, then the tri-tip which was still good! For the sides, my favorites were the potato casserole and the slaw. I was most excited for the Mac and Cheese and beans. However the Mac and Cheese was just good and not exceptional and the beans were a bit too sweet for my liking. Service was really slow. The line was outside to the end of the patio. But the food was worth the wait. There is only one person cutting the meats and ordering is like a school lunch line. To-go and Dine-In orders both need to stay in this same line There is a good amount of seating. But there are way too many aggressive flys in the outdoor seating area. It is with mixed feelings I review Smokehouse 41 in Oakhurst, CA. After reading wonderful reviews and hearing many good stories, I finally endeavored to drive the 75 miles to eat barbecue at the Smokehouse 41. With a 4.5 rating averaged from 900+ reviews I was expecting a tremendous experience. My wife and I had a pleasant drive up the mountain road enjoying spring flowers under a blue sky dotted with scattered white fluffy clouds. The mood was set and we were looking forward to an anticipated wonderful barbecue meal. We arrived about noon shortly after opening, and enjoyed the wonderful aroma of barbecue being smoked outside on their large offset smoker. As we perused the menu to select our meal, decisions were hard. My wife chose a tri tip sandwich with their jalapeno macaroni and cheese for a side, And added their twice baked potato dish as well. I chose to try my usual - the "check out the barbecue joint trio" - the Texas Trinity of brisket, sausage and ribs, and although it couldn't qualify for the three meat plate combo due do the inclusion of ribs, the order taker put it together for me with an explanation of what she was doing. I could not understand her due to the loud music and the high sneeze guard that separated me from her and the pile of meat she was cutting and plating to order. Moving over to choose two sides, I ordered beans and jalapeno macaroni and cheese, not realizing my wife had ordered the M&C as well since we normally attempt to try as many sides as possible. We found a spot at a table and dug in. The results were a bit disappointing. My wife's tri tip was very, very dry, and even a good dose of their "just okay" BBQ sauce really didn't help. My brisket was soft; not tender - soft; almost mushy. I deduced that it was wrapped too soon after coming off the smoker, not allowing the meat to cool sufficiently and therefore continuing to steam cook in the paper. The ribs had a good flavor but were overcooked. I am aware many like ribs that fall off the bone, but I'm not one of them. Still, I would rather that way than be undercooked. The sausage was good however I prefer a bit coarser grind on the meat. But I would eat them happily any day. The sides: Jalapeno macaroni and cheese - not a sign of any jalapeños by either sight or taste. The beans - excellent! The twice baked potato dish was the star of the show. I'd drive the 150 mile round trip just to eat that delicious dish again. The employees were all very helpful and friendly. I spoke at length to the manager and discussed a few of my thoughts. He was attentive and caring, listening politely. Hopefully, he will pass on my (and others) concerns and objections. He deserves a raise. Overall, I still must give Smokehouse 41 a hearty 4 stars, because they stand way above the mostly 3 star at best barbecue restaurants I have eaten at in California. The restaurant itself was nice- clean and well apportioned. The prices were very fair for their 'cue compared to other good joints in and around the valley. We'll go back. read more

We had grabbed food from here to-go the last time we were in town so we decided to stop in and eat this time. The food was fairly tasty and they have a good selection to choose from. My daughter (being a super picky eater) ordered only brisket and she got a very dry and burnt cut. So I gave her mine since mine was moist and tender and since that was the only thing she ate. The downside is that the place is FILLED with flies and everyone dining there was under attack. I had to spread out a napkin across my entire tray to keep them from landing all over my food and just lift it up eat time I wanted to take a bite. We were staying at Bass Lake to visit Yosemite and I noticed there was bbq in nearby Oakhurst.  Smoker was smoking and filled the parking lot with the scent of native California Oak wood.  I was hoping to get a Bronosaurus beef rib but was told it's only available on weekends in the summer.  There was a choice of a half rack for $20 or a full rack of ribs for $31.  I opted for the full rack as I don't mind having leftover ribs. Rib was tender and juicy.  Lots of smoky flavor from being smoked with native California Oak wood.  Loved the dry rub which had lots of peppery flavor with a bit of sweetness from the brown sugar.  Great tasting ribs. Staff was friendly and answered all my questions.  Next time I'm in town I'll have to try the brisket or tri-tip. read more

We ordered the combo which is the best deal. It comes with three different meats and three sides. The brisket was unbelievably tender. Brisket is my favorite barbecue meats and I have to say theirs is some of the best I've had. For the sides we tried the Mac n cheese, coleslaw, beans, and potato salad. The beans and Mac n cheese were my favorite. I also got to try the loaded fries which had lots of cheese, green onion and chopped up beef on top. They are located in a small strip mall. Open New Year's Day! My partner and I were staying across the street in a hotel and noticed this place, with its smokers fired up early on new year's morning. They're a big fan of southern bbq, so we had to go. They're opened at 1130, just in time for brunch/breaking a 16:8 fast. Even before 1130 am came, cars were lined up outside. A nice stop after a short motorcycle ride from Fresno to North Fork around Bass Lake and then into Oakhurst. Got here around 11am Saturday with no crowds yet. Service is fast and you get choice food and beverage off the menu board. Food portions are large and filling with the right amount of seasoning. My meal was the "Pit Master" that had pulled pork, brisket and sausage on a bun garnished with onions, pickles and coleslaw along with a side of mac n cheese topped with bacon bits. The service was top tier ! We had queued up on a Saturday night and decided to go elsewhere as the line was quite long. We returned when they opened on a Sunday and waited less than half an hour before it was our thrn to order. We got a few lbs of brisket, a whole rack of ribs, the 41 baker with tri tip, the pit master and more. All the meats were tender, made very well and prices are not bad.
