The only downside was the line to get in, which was pretty ridiculous. Be prepared to wait a bit. Great smokehouse and BBQ joint. Seats fill up fast at dinner time. It's similar to other larger places where you order at the counter and they prepare your food for you on the spot before sitting down. Waiter walks around checking on you and refilling drinks. As for the food; large family of 6 with 4 teens we ordered "The Mammoth". 1/2 lb of all the meats they offer and a full rack of pork ribs. Everything was full of smoke flavor. The brisket and the ribs were the stars of the show. The tri-tip was on the drier side but not bad. Pulled chicken was more like chopped chicken and was great when paired with their BBQ sauce. It is with mixed feelings I review Smokehouse 41 in Oakhurst, CA. After reading wonderful reviews and hearing many good stories, I finally endeavored to drive the 75 miles to eat barbecue at the Smokehouse 41. With a 4.5 rating averaged from 900+ reviews I was expecting a tremendous experience. My wife and I had a pleasant drive up the mountain road enjoying spring flowers under a blue sky dotted with scattered white fluffy clouds. The mood was set and we were looking forward to an anticipated wonderful barbecue meal. We arrived about noon shortly after opening, and enjoyed the wonderful aroma of barbecue being smoked outside on their large offset smoker. As we perused the menu to select our meal, decisions were hard. My wife chose a tri tip sandwich with their jalapeno macaroni and cheese for a side, And added their twice baked potato dish as well. I chose to try my usual - the "check out the barbecue joint trio" - the Texas Trinity of brisket, sausage and ribs, and although it couldn't qualify for the three meat plate combo due do the inclusion of ribs, the order taker put it together for me with an explanation of what she was doing. I could not understand her due to the loud music and the high sneeze guard that separated me from her and the pile of meat she was cutting and plating to order. Moving over to choose two sides, I ordered beans and jalapeno macaroni and cheese, not realizing my wife had ordered the M&C as well since we normally attempt to try as many sides as possible. We found a spot at a table and dug in. The results were a bit disappointing. My wife's tri tip was very, very dry, and even a good dose of their "just okay" BBQ sauce really didn't help. My brisket was soft; not tender - soft; almost mushy. I deduced that it was wrapped too soon after coming off the smoker, not allowing the meat to cool sufficiently and therefore continuing to steam cook in the paper. The ribs had a good flavor but were overcooked. I am aware many like ribs that fall off the bone, but I'm not one of them. Still, I would rather that way than be undercooked. The sausage was good however I prefer a bit coarser grind on the meat. But I would eat them happily any day. The sides: Jalapeno macaroni and cheese - not a sign of any jalapeños by either sight or taste. The beans - excellent! The twice baked potato dish was the star of the show. I'd drive the 150 mile round trip just to eat that delicious dish again. The employees were all very helpful and friendly. I spoke at length to the manager and discussed a few of my thoughts. He was attentive and caring, listening politely. Hopefully, he will pass on my (and others) concerns and objections. He deserves a raise. Overall, I still must give Smokehouse 41 a hearty 4 stars, because they stand way above the mostly 3 star at best barbecue restaurants I have eaten at in California. I'm glad I checked this place out after visiting Yosemite. It's a top-tier bbq place in my opinion. I'm very picky when it comes to meat since I'm sensitive to textures and meat can sometimes be inedible to me. However, all the meats I tried here were juicy and tender. We got the pork ribs, tri-tip, and brisket. My favorite was the brisket, it was so tender and jiggly. Pork ribs were my next favorite, then the tri-tip which was still good! For the sides, my favorites were the potato casserole and the slaw. I was most excited for the Mac and Cheese and beans. However the Mac and Cheese was just good and not exceptional and the beans were a bit too sweet for my liking. Service was really slow. The line was outside to the end of the patio. But the food was worth the wait. There is only one person cutting the meats and ordering is like a school lunch line. To-go and Dine-In orders both need to stay in this same line There is a good amount of seating. But there are way too many aggressive flys in the outdoor seating area. Open New Year's Day! My partner and I were staying across the street in a hotel and noticed this place, with its smokers fired up early on new year's morning. They're a big fan of southern bbq, so we had to go. They're opened at 1130, just in time for brunch/breaking a 16:8 fast. Even before 1130 am came, cars were lined up outside. We had grabbed food from here to-go the last time we were in town so we decided to stop in and eat this time. The food was fairly tasty and they have a good selection to choose from. My daughter (being a super picky eater) ordered only brisket and she got a very dry and burnt cut. So I gave her mine since mine was moist and tender and since that was the only thing she ate. The downside is that the place is FILLED with flies and everyone dining there was under attack. I had to spread out a napkin across my entire tray to keep them from landing all over my food and just lift it up eat time I wanted to take a bite. We returned when they opened on a Sunday and waited less than half an hour before it was our thrn to order. We were staying at Bass Lake to visit Yosemite and I noticed there was bbq in nearby Oakhurst.  Smoker was smoking and filled the parking lot with the scent of native California Oak wood.  I was hoping to get a Bronosaurus beef rib but was told it's only available on weekends in the summer.  There was a choice of a half rack for $20 or a full rack of ribs for $31.  I opted for the full rack as I don't mind having leftover ribs. Rib was tender and juicy.  Lots of smoky flavor from being smoked with native California Oak wood.  Loved the dry rub which had lots of peppery flavor with a bit of sweetness from the brown sugar.  Great tasting ribs. We stayed at the Best Western across the road visiting Yosemite for the weekend. Needed a meal for the family and man o man were we in for a treat. Every meat was smoked to perfection, sauces, sides, beers, everything was amazing. Staff is super friendly and very warming. It's hard to find good barbecue. I was visiting Yosemite with family and found Smokehouse 41 on the app. We loved the food that we came back a second time for dinner. We ordered the combo which is the best deal. It comes with three different meats and three sides. The brisket was unbelievably tender. Brisket is my favorite barbecue meats and I have to say theirs is some of the best I've had. For the sides we tried the Mac n cheese, coleslaw, beans, and potato salad. The beans and Mac n cheese were my favorite. I also got to try the loaded fries which had lots of cheese, green onion and chopped up beef on top. They are located in a small strip mall. It does get pretty crowded during dinner so make sure to go on the earlier end. I'm definitely coming back on my next trip to Yosemite. read more

I liked the cafeteria style setup and that it has an area to sit outside. On the plate was sausage and brisket which were delicious. The beans were a bit undercooked for my liking while the macaroni was topped with plenty of bacon ! The pulled pork comes topped with coleslaw. It's huge ! OMG, this is the best barbecue I've ever had. Better than anything I ate in Texas. We arrived at 6:45 p.m. on a Saturday and there was a line out the door (and it was cold outside). I got the three meat plate with brisket, tri-tip, and sausage. Spousal unit got the ribs with brisket. All of it was excellent, very tender brisket and tri-tip. For sides we got Cole Slaw, "Warm Twice Baked Potato Casserole," and "Creamy Broccoli Salad." This was more than we could eat as young seniors. We took the leftovers back to our hotel across the street and the next morning we made sandwiches using bagels from the breakfast buffet. Even though it was pretty early, they had run out of the "41 Baker" (Smoked sea salt crusted Sweet Potato topped w/butter, choice of meat, cheddar cheese, chipotle aioli & green onion). They had also run out of smoked pork and the "Jalapeno Mac & Cheese topped with bacon" side. The next day, on the way out of Yosemite, we stopped there to get the Jalapeno Mac & Cheese topped with bacon side order, and another order of the Creamy Broccoli Salad. Personally, I liked the Warm Twice Baked Potato Casserole better than the Jalapeno Mac & Cheese topped with bacon. We each got a draft beer, one 41 Smoke-in Blonde, and one other (I forget). The only annoyance was the 2.7% fee for paying electronically. Since electronic payments reduce a restaurants operating costs way more than 2.7%, versus handling cash, this charge shouldn't be imposed. read more

A nice stop after a short motorcycle ride from Fresno to North Fork around Bass Lake and then into Oakhurst. Got here around 11am Saturday with no crowds yet. My meal was the "Pit Master" that had pulled pork, brisket and sausage on a bun garnished with onions, pickles and coleslaw along with a side of mac n cheese topped with bacon bits. If you have never had good ribs then this might be a good place for you, I have had good ribs 100's of times and great ribs a lot of times. First the ribs were over cooked, not extremely overcooked but way overcooked Second, there is no smoke ring on these ribs AND the tasty fat has all disappeared. When you enter Smokehouse 41, someone asks you if you have been there before. We have not; so, our greeter explained the process of getting our food and handed us a menu. The person taking orders was soooooo patient, as we were not quite sure what we wanted. Smokehouse 41 is cafeteria style. You order your meat selections with one person. As your meats are being prepared, someone else asks about your sides. Everything is prepared and sent to the cashier. After you pay, you can choose your seat. The restaurant is not enormous. If it gets busy, there would be a wait. While Smokehouse 41 is cafeteria style, I actually felt like we were at a sit-down restaurant. Someone came to our table every so often to see if we wanted our drinks refilled. And when someone noticed we were pretty much done, we were asked if we needed boxes. The service reminded me of a national chain that does not open on Sundays. I love it when employees are smiling and so attentive. We ordered The Mammoth. The menu said it feeds 4-6 people. With a teenage boy, we had leftovers. My family loves BBQ, and we were not disappointed. The meats do not come saucy. Instead, there are two sauces on the table for your pleasure. I prefer it this way. The meats were sooooooooo tender. The pork ribs fell off the bone and were perfectly seasoned. I felt as though sauce was not necessary. If I could BBQ tri-tip every time we have it, I would. The brisket had this nice fat cap that we absolutely loved. The pork was not try and was really tender. The sausage had a very nice kick. I believe it was jalapeño cheddar. Oh! The rolls should not be forgotten. The rolls were so soft. It was hard not to eat all of them. We had Mac n cheese and Cole slaw for our sides. Bacon on Mac n cheese is it. One of my daughters said she wished there was more cheese, but she is one who loves extra cheesy Mac n cheese. My other daughter said it could have used more seasoning, but I told her that she has to take into consideration the spices from the meats. When she had the Mac n cheese with the meats, she said they were perfectly paired. I absolutely loved the Cole slaw! It was sweet and not smothered with mayo. It was practically perfect. The meal came with butter for the rolls, mustard, dill pickles, and onions. The dill pickles were sublime. They were perfectly sour. When you pop a slice in your mouth, you know it is a dill pickle. You picture a jar with pickles swimming in pickle juice. I wish I had a bigger appetite. I did not want to stop eating, but I physically could not eat more. While we were eating, we saw employees exiting and entering through the restaurant doors. As we were waddling out, we saw a line at the counter. And when we exited, there was a line outside. I don't like meat. I like the meat here. We got ribs, tri tip and sausage. Tri tip is the star. Their baked beans are crack. They have smoked brisket in the beans with caramelized onions. It's perfection. Slightly sweet, but not too sweet. Meaty, but not too meaty. The creamy broccoli salad is not to be missed. It's the perfect foil for the heavy meat. We ordered the Mammoth meal which serves 4-6 people, it comes with 6 biscuits, coleslaw, Mac & cheese, chicken, ribs... basically all the works. We were famished and eager to eat and despite the hustle and bustle of the restaurant, our food came out promptly. It was so delicious, wish they had some salsa but it was all good! They have spicy BBQ and sweet BQQ sauce on the tables. I noticed that the bathrooms were clean and well stocked.
