If you have never had good ribs then this might be a good place for you, I have had good ribs 100's of times and great ribs a lot of times. First the ribs were over cooked, not extremely overcooked but way overcooked Second, there is no smoke ring on these ribs AND the tasty fat has all disappeared. We ordered the Mammoth meal which serves 4-6 people, it comes with 6 biscuits, coleslaw, Mac & cheese, chicken, ribs... basically all the works. When you enter Smokehouse 41, someone asks you if you have been there before. We have not; so, our greeter explained the process of getting our food and handed us a menu. The person taking orders was soooooo patient, as we were not quite sure what we wanted. Smokehouse 41 is cafeteria style. You order your meat selections with one person. As your meats are being prepared, someone else asks about your sides. Everything is prepared and sent to the cashier. After you pay, you can choose your seat. The restaurant is not enormous. If it gets busy, there would be a wait. While Smokehouse 41 is cafeteria style, I actually felt like we were at a sit-down restaurant. Someone came to our table every so often to see if we wanted our drinks refilled. And when someone noticed we were pretty much done, we were asked if we needed boxes. The service reminded me of a national chain that does not open on Sundays. I love it when employees are smiling and so attentive. We ordered The Mammoth. The menu said it feeds 4-6 people. With a teenage boy, we had leftovers. My family loves BBQ, and we were not disappointed. The meats do not come saucy. Instead, there are two sauces on the table for your pleasure. I prefer it this way. The meats were sooooooooo tender. The pork ribs fell off the bone and were perfectly seasoned. I felt as though sauce was not necessary. If I could BBQ tri-tip every time we have it, I would. The brisket had this nice fat cap that we absolutely loved. The pork was not try and was really tender. The sausage had a very nice kick. I believe it was jalapeño cheddar. Oh! The rolls should not be forgotten. The rolls were so soft. It was hard not to eat all of them. We had Mac n cheese and Cole slaw for our sides. Bacon on Mac n cheese is it. One of my daughters said she wished there was more cheese, but she is one who loves extra cheesy Mac n cheese. My other daughter said it could have used more seasoning, but I told her that she has to take into consideration the spices from the meats. When she had the Mac n cheese with the meats, she said they were perfectly paired. I absolutely loved the Cole slaw! It was sweet and not smothered with mayo. It was practically perfect. The meal came with butter for the rolls, mustard, dill pickles, and onions. The dill pickles were sublime. They were perfectly sour. When you pop a slice in your mouth, you know it is a dill pickle. You picture a jar with pickles swimming in pickle juice. I wish I had a bigger appetite. I did not want to stop eating, but I physically could not eat more. While we were eating, we saw employees exiting and entering through the restaurant doors. As we were waddling out, we saw a line at the counter. And when we exited, there was a line outside. Recently came here on a date after going axe throwing next door. This is basically *the only* place to eat in Oakhurst (not literally, but basically). So, we really had no choice but to be content with the one hour wait to get in. Luckily, we were both expecting it, and both had good attitudes about it. I ordered the Brisket sandwich, and he ordered the Pit Master. My sandwich came with onions, slaw, a pickle, and jalapeno mac and cheese. I absolutely loved the jalapeno mac and cheese, and wished I had more of it. I loved the bread and toppings on the sandwich, but honestly did not love the brisket. I'm certainly no brisket expert. The only other brisket I can remember eating is from when I worked in the deli at Costco, and I did not like this brisket as much as that. Maybe it was my fault for not trying any of the house barbecue sauce on my sandwich, but the flavor of the meat itself was just not my favorite. I thought it tasted a tad bit fishy, although it was certainly hot and fresh, and the texture was great. I wished I had ordered a combo plate with two meats, so I could at least know if I would have liked the other meat better. If I came back again, that's what I would do. Average BBQ for touristy prices. Protein is certainly on every hungry hiker's mind after a day in Yosemite, and we made a point to come here for dinner based on previous reviews. Look for the two-story sky blue lodge-style building. Fair number of parking spaces, shared with some other businesses in the plaza. The place is smaller than the building suggests, with the counter and dining space taking up maybe half of the building's first floor. The door puts you directly in front of the order counter and kitchen, and staff were peppy and friendly. Order meat from the first employee, sides from the second, and get your drinks from the register person who will ring you up. The whole process is pretty efficient, and though we were initially told the brisket was out, someone brought out a giant slab of brisket right before we were about to order. Ambiance is sort of a once-charming saloon - sticky linoleum tables and chairs, with old country hits playing. I did like that each table was equipped with a roll of paper towels and original as well as spicy house BBQ sauce. Would probably try to eat on the porch next time in ambient weather. We got a half pound each of brisket and smoked sausage, and a half rack of ribs. Complemented by broccoli salad and mac n' cheese. Everything was pretty meh. Brisket, despite being as fresh as we could have gotten it, was dry and the flavor had been cooked out of it. Even though it had a nice smoke ring, there was no juice to each bite and I had to swab it in BBQ sauce to help it go down. Similarly, the ribs had a nice glaze but didn't have fall-off-the-bone quality. Sausage was, well, sausage. Overall, I'd give this spot a 3.5/5. The food was decent. The group favorite was the pulled chicken, pulled pork, and sausage. The service was friendly and quick. The ambiance is what you'd expect from a BBQ spot. It can decently accommodate large parties. It was pretty busy for a 330pm on a Friday. I think there was more of an expectation for fall off the bone ribs. The majority of the critiques would be for the temperature and texture of the dishes. Either items weren't warm, cooked too long, or undercooked. The sauces they have were fantastic. It really carried the flavor for the meats. The portions were also good for 4-6 people. Everyone had to go through one person who took the order, chopped up the barbecue you ordered, weighed it, cut a bun, and put it on a bun, all while everyone in line was waiting. If it was something more than a sandwich, they made it in back and brought it out to your table. They did have a few good beers on tap and more in cans. The best BBQ place I've been to in California and sneakily comparable to some of the Texas BBQ I've had. Doing a quick overnight in Oakhurst before traveling to Yosemite and saw the excellent reviews on Yelp and wanted to check this spot out. Walked in around 6:15pm (they close at 7) and the line was probably 15 people deep. Figured this was a good sign and was excited to make it to the front to order, hoping they wouldn't be sold out of anything. It took about 30 minutes to get to the front of the line as they also mix in some phone in orders. We got two of the two meat plates which come with two sides, a roll and pickles. You can upgrade to one of the premium sides for an extra $1. Meats: brisket: 5/5 - tender, flavorful, excellent Tri-tip: 4/5 - flavor was good but it was a little chewy Sides: mac and cheese w/bacon on top 5/5, twice baked potato casserole (premium) 5/5, and coleslaw 2/5. Service was good, especially when you consider how insanely busy they were for a Thursday night in late December. The interior has a decent amount of seating which were almost all occupied. Exactly where we went isn't really necessary to detail because this is really about where we wound up, which was here at the smokehouse 41. There's something a little alien, perhaps even uncouth, about barbecue to true easterners, or more exactly those north of the carolinas. it might appear to be simply burned meat, but of course that denies the fact that very complicated flavors develop during the smoking process. i grew up in Texas where bbq was a regular menu item during the crass and callous days of my youth. so i have to admit to a prejudice in favor of the so-called "Texas" style bbq, which is one reason i chose this to be the end of our outward bound roadtrip. This is really worth going out of your way, maybe not quite as far out as we were but you really need to have a good reference point for quality and this is about the best I've come up with in California. Meat is tender and well seasoned, my favorite being the dryer end cuts of brisket, though you might prefer the less well done. side orders of beans and cole slaw, though if your diet will allow it try the mac n cheese. altogether this is a good place to turn around and head back home, and call it a day... or two. read more

We actually found this place through ChatGPT, and honestly, we walked in not really knowing what to expect. But the moment we stepped up to the door, that amazing smell of grilled meat hit us -- it totally pulled us in. Sure enough, once we got inside, there was a line of people waiting. We noticed something cool: almost all the staff were women, which felt kind of refreshing. We ordered the large beef ribs -- and wow, it was a lot. I can see why this place has so many great reviews! This busy BBQ joint is located about 1.5 hours from Yosemite, the perfect treat post-hike. The best thing about this place was the service. Everyone was very attentive to all of the tables at all times, and were genuinely kind and considerate to the guests. They would stop by and refill drinks, ask if anything was needed, and even took our plates away when done (which is phenomenal for a order, pay, and seat yourself spot!!!) Now let's get to the food. The ribs were AMAZING. Melt off the bone, seasoned just right (didn't even need BBQ sauce), and plenty of meat. I would eat the pork BBQ ribs again and again haha. So here's the quick summary: Overall food was solid (really enjoyed most of what we got), but the wait was soooo slow due to inefficient processes. After an emotional funeral in town, we needed a quick meal before a long drive home and found Smokehouse 41 on Yelp and were struck by all of the great reviews. That got us interested but when we pulled into the parking lot and smelled the meat in the smoker and we knew we were at the right place. So, here is my honest and open review from a lover of all things BBQ. I mentioned that I was dairy free and gluten free and they didn't batt an eye and pointed out what I should avoid etc. I had the 2 meat plate and chose brisket and pulled pork and boy did we make the right choice. Tender and juicy in both cases. I asked for the Cole slaw and the BBQ beans and the beans had meat chunks in them and was delicious. The BBQ sauces were amazing, with one being spicy and one milder and more on the vinegary side. It is walk up and order and was a little busy, but got even busier after we sat. Busy might bother some, but to me, it is always a good sign about a restaurant. I had a few special requests and the cashier and one of the servers took care of all of our needs. My 5 stars are for the service and the food. Being a BBQ place it was basic seating both inside and outside, and fun posters/pictures on the walls. I ate everything and rolled out overly full.
