I'll preface by stating I'm from Texas on a work trip. I'm not snobbish to think only Texas makes the best BBQ, hence trying Smokehouse 41. Prices are comparable to what I'm used to in TX. I tried the brisket, pork ribs, Cole slaw and BBQ baked beans. I was thankful they did not pre-sauce but had the regular and spicy sauces at the table. Overall the style was similar to Texas other than having tri-tip which I learned later was very Californian. Wish I tried that. The brisket was somewhat dry and had ok flavor. I ended up saucing it to add flavor. The ribs were tender and slightly dry. The slaw lacked what I prefer: more mayonnaise/creamy sauce. The beans were the tastiest part of the meal. Amazing bbq place in California. We stopped by after our trip to Yosemite on a Sunday and got there right at opening! There was already a line formed in the front. Order first, they prepare your food/plate in front of you, and then you pay and grab a seat to eat. We ordered half a rack of ribs and a 2 meat plate with brisket, tritip, mac n cheese and beans for the sides. Their sides are SO delicious, especially the barbecue beans, something about the sauce makes it so yummy. The mac n cheese is also good but not super cheesy. All their meats are slow cooked to perfection, our favorite was the ribs. You can bite if right off the bone, it is so good with the sauce as well. It comes more of a dry rub and you can drizzle more barbecue sauce to your liking as you eat! The brisket was my second favorite, very tender and not chewy. This place makes me happy. This place is absolutely one of my favorite barbecue places with really simple, well done barbecue. The people are wonderful, and the place is always clean. I think my absolute favorite thing to eat here is the brisket. It's perfectly cooked, with good flavor, and they don't hide the flavors in sauce. The pulled pork is a little dry for me, but it's not bad. The sausage is also absolutely tasty. The mac & cheese is a classic and tasty treat. Got my order in about 15 minutes while watching the team behind the counter slicing a lot of meat, making recommendations for the customers, adding the sides, and anything else that was needed. You order at the counter where the meats and sides are displayed. Someone cuts your sides on the spot. Our family shares the Mammoth and it was a ginormous tray of deliciousness. All of the meats were smoked to perfection. Some review say the tri tip was dry but ours was moist- just a bit tough. We enjoyed the brisket and the pulled pork the most. The twice baked potato casserole tasted like a guilty pleasure and the cole slaw was sweet, crunchy, and refreshing. There are paper towels at the table for the messy fingers and faces. I think that's their best thing they have so far that I've tried and I'd give it a 8.9 out of 10. The wings, smoked wings, they were awful tasting. They tasted as if this was cloned, plastic chicken. The flavor is on top of just the chicken texture and the natural chicken flavoring were very mild and weak.. 4.5/10 The mac & cheese ... gets a -75 out of 10. It was the worst mac & cheese I have ever tasted. It was so bad. I never imagined that mac & cheese could taste like this. I literally took one bite, and I spit it out into the plate. She was able to explain all menu iteams we had questions about which was nice. We got sent inside about 10 minutes later and same premise, stand in line until it was our turn to order. After a long hike in Yosemite, this is exactly the kind of place you want to land in. You burn a bunch of calories on the trail, then come here to get some much needed protein. They've got plenty of seating, it's comfortable inside, and the temperature is set just right too. It's the kind of place where you could easily bring your whole group of friends or family and everyone would fit in fine. And yes, I brought home a little piece for my dog. Coleslaw: 3 of 5: light and refreshing addition to the plate of meat. However, on its own lacks taste and could use a bit more something to be a good side on its own. Loaded Baked Potato w/brisket: 5 of 5: not for the feint or heart or stomach. The Potato is big! If you want to finish it don't order much of anything else. The overall dish is delicious, and with all the additions provides a variety of welcome contrasts in flavor. Bbq Sauces 5 of 5: this does make up the flavor for the meats, however, I can't base the review on the sauces. Excellent flavor for both available sauces on the table.
