My brother and I enjoy checking out the different smokehouses around town and we recently stopped by Smoke 'N Ash for lunch. They serve Ethiopian food in addition to BBQ but don't let that fool you. This is a locally owned hole-in-the-wall with good food. The service is a tad bit slow, but very friendly. We both ordered brisket which had really good taste and was "fall off the bone" moist. I also had their pulled pork, which was equally tasty and moist. The meat is very good BBQ but is also microwaved during the final preparation stage. For sides, I had the their cut green beans and baked beans. I don't know if it was honey or sugar, but both had a slightly sweet taste. The green beans were excellent. Although the baked beans were also good they tasted (ever so slightly) as if they came out of a can. The toast that came with my meal was bland and very hard. I only had two bites before setting it aside. For desert, I had a large piece of slightly dry Red Velvet Cake that was made / delivered by a third-party vendor. I don't know if the sauce was home-made or store-bought, but it was sweet and very pleasant. All things considered, I would recommend Smoke 'N Ash Barbecue if you're in the area. Took a long time to get our food there was only one other person...and when we did my friends order was wrong but it was an easy mistake he wanted green beans and he got baked beans...but his okra was BURNT haha but what should be the star of the show was forgettable...if you make BBQ in Texas you need to bring it...and I didn't feel Like they brought it...sweet tea was super good and everyone was very nice!! read more

First visit here. Got 2 meat plate of brisket and ribs with mac n cheese and okra. Brisket was moist and tender with decent flavor, not the best I've had, but worth 4 stars. The ribs weren't fall off the bone, but not tough either and they had a very good rub on them. I liked the ribs better. Mac n cheese was really good with a peppery spice to it. Okra was ok. Ordered the Doro Wot and 3 meat plate (brisket, ribs and sausage). Doro wot was great. I'm now an Ethiopian food fan. They should be ashamed to call the rest "authentic Texas BBQ". No sign of bark or smoke ring on the brisket and ribs. Ordered moist and got lean. I doubt either ever saw a real smoker. Faint smoke taste that came from who knows where. My wife had heard about this restaurant a few weeks ago and wanted to try it, so today Saturday April 1 2023 we gave it a try. We arrived at 4:00 p.m. and after about ten minutes looking at the menu she decided on the pulled pork sandwich and I selected the 1/2 pound pork ribs with a potato salad side and two drinks, I went to the counter to order and stood in line for about another ten minutes, the total for the meal was $33.28, while in line I noticed that some one from the kitchen would come to the counter and write on a piece of paper, saying we are out of a certain item, this list had four items listed in the ten minutes I was in line, I went to my table and did not get my food until 5:20 p.m. and the order was not correct, my side was on her order, I know this was a slight mistake and could overlook that, but the pulled pork sandwich was cold and dry and the ribs were not that great, I have had worse and a lot better and the potato salad was bland. BOTTOM LINE, I will not be going back nor recommending it to anyone due to the quality of food, slow service and price. read more

And the potato salad was delicious and herby which impressed me cuz good potato salad is hard to find. Everything was super tender and juicy and the flavor was so good. Some BBQ places I've tried kill their meat with a lot of seasoning but the wood used to smoke these meats really bring out a great taste. We had two 2 meat plates to try a little bit of everything. One plate was brisket, ribs, potato salad and mac and cheese. The other plate was ribs, sausage, baked beans and fries. The brisket, sausage and potato salad were good. The ribs were tough, mac and cheese was probably reheated from yesterday because the sauce was broken and it was very salty. Fries were crinkle cut from the freezer and baked beans were from a can. I really wanted to like this place because it is local and family owned but the quality is just not there. Also not sure where the meat is smoked, if at all. You walk in and it doesn't smell like a bbq place. Oh we also had the buttercream bread and it was definitely not made from scratch. I cant believe people actually gave this restaurant a bad rating. It's very clean and our food was brought to us very promptly and the lady at the front was very patient while we looked at the menu. The food was beyond amazing. I've tried many BBQ places over the years and the brisket always seems to be super tough and dry but at this restaurant it literally falls apart and you dont need a knife at all. The pulled pork was beyond amazing as well. The mac and cheese is definitely different from most places and it's nothing like I've had before but it was delicious. They use real cheese not that nasty nacho cheese other places use. Even the fries were good and well Seasoned. The portions are huge and the price is very good for BBQ. Went for the first time yesterday night after getting my haircut. Ordered 2 of their loaded baked potatoes. Wife and I loved them! Literally Loaded with everything good so you wont want for anything more. Definitely will be making this a go to spot for local Barbeque. The cook asked the girl about it and she was just like sorry and went right back to her phone. Terrible service this was my first and last time coming. First time here. I have passed by many times without realizing they were here! Big Ash Baked Potato was larger than any DIckies, Colters or Spring Creek potato. I was given a modest bid and accepted their bid. All our interaction was over the phone, the food was delivered at the proper location and time. The meats , ribs, sausage and chicken aswell as the sides We're delicious. i had no complaints from any of my guests who are very picky eaters. My wife raved about the potato salad and the rolls .
