I visit here usually if I have a coupon for a cheap decent meal. I enjoy the salmon and occasionally I'll get the pulled pork sandwich. The service is always good but recently the last few times I visited the women's bathroom has been disgusting. Anytime I go to a restaurant I expect the bathrooms to be as clean as possible but the ones here look like they get cleaned only a couple times a week which is a downfall for me because it makes me wonder what the kitchen is like. Four stars for the corn bread with honey butter alone. Some of the best corn bread I've ever had. I'm from up north so maybe that doesn't say a lot, but it was perfect. I've only been to this particular Smokey Bones location a couple times, and they all have been spur of the moment. It usually isn't too busy when I go, and I love going for the late night menu that starts after 10pm. There's a list of different options for $4, $5, and $6. Pitchers of beer are also $6, which is also very convenient for larger parties who just want to drink. For seating, there's a bar, tables and booths, and some high tables as well. It's also very accommodating to larger parties late at night as well. I always get the spinach artichoke dip and garlic Parmesan chicken tenders. Make sure you ask them to mix the garlic Parmesan with the chicken or else they'll put it on the side, which isn't as good. I've also gotten the loaded nachos and cheese fries, which are both good. I could go without the BBQ sauce on the cheese fries though. The music seems to change at the snap of a finger and is always pretty loud. I like it some nights, but other nights, I would like to hear what everyone is saying. Service can either be a hit or miss at this place because some of the wait staff are more friendly than others. But other than that, I always enjoy coming here for a late night bite. read more

Good food and customer service. During our visit this evening we were overall impressed with the meals and our friendly server. The server was able to provide recommendations, at which I ordered the chicken fingers. Other items ordered at the table I believe were West Coast club and the smokehouse burger. All of us enjoyed our meals, as everything was fresh made and cooked perfectly. Our server Selena was really polite and came to our table just the right amount of times to provide refills and check on our table. I'll start by saying the food was awesome. No complaints there. The service, however, was absolutely horrible. We were told our table was ready and upon arriving at it, the lady said "oh sorry that one's still dirty, I'll sit you over here". Well the other table was also dirty and she apologized and I just said I would clean it myself, which I did. We waited over 30 minutes for our drinks to come out. Then I asked for dipping sauce and waited another 15 minutes before getting up and going to get it myself. The steak that came out was about the size of a quarter, yes big enough for 1 maybe 2 bites. After being there about 2 hours we ordered root beer floats to go. The waitress responded with "sorry we don't have root beer here". I had to show her on the menu where root beer float was listed. Those came out and after about 2.5 hours, we left. What's worse is that it wasn't busy at all. There were only about 10-15 ppl in the restaurant at the time. Last night was the first time my boyfriend and I had been to Smokey Bones. Last minute decision and we were starving. It was around 10 pm when we arrived. It was pretty busy for that time of night, plus it was St. Patrick's Day. A girl, who I assume was a hostess, not 100% sure, greeted us about 30 -45 seconds of standing in front of her. She asked how many, then said she'd be right back and disappeared into the kitchen. About a minute went by and a guy comes up, think he was a server, asked how many and seated us right away. Our waitress was very friendly and attentive..BUT, she put in our drink order, which was a beer and a shot. It took the bartender 20 minutes or more to make it. We about left bc it was taking so long and while they were busy, it wasn't so busy that it should take THAT long for drinks. Food came out relatively fast and was good. Unimpressed. I had the combo of pulled pork and bbq chicken breast, with mashed potatoes and cinnamon apples. The pulled pork had no flavor. It was tender, but literally was tasteless. Fortunately, they have sauces on the table. One sauce had a good flavor, but what's the point of of the food if it has no flavor. The bbq chicken breast was fine, albeit small. It want the best cut either as one end was hard to cut through with the cheap butter knife they give you. The mashed potatoes with gravy was nothing to write home about. Tonight I had great food here but the staff was terrible. When my husband and I both walked in the host was miserable acting and didn't even have a friendly attitude at all. Then our waitress would roll her eyes when we asked for the things we wanted or if we needed more time to look. She would also go to the table behind us and giggle and laugh with her friends about how she got her stitches out and how she wants to go home. Ms. Trinity wasn't the most friendliest to any standards. My husband when ordering wanted two sides when his meal came with one and was fine with the up charge, but we had to ask twice for a side of fries to never receive them. Where do I even start. I placed an order online to be picked up at 6:45pm. We didn't get to the place until 6:50pm. Gave them a little extra time. I park in the to go spot an my husband goes in to get the food. This is where is goes down hill from here. First, they tried to give us someone else's to go order. My husband told them that it wasn't our order. They FINALLY bring out our order, but again, they were missing stuff from the order. So, my husband told the manager and they could tell by now that my husband was a little pissed. The manager said "you seem like you are a little upset" ya think. It's not 7:20pm I have been waiting on my food for 30 minutes that should have been done by now. The manager didn't apologize, say hey let me get this on the house for you all. NOTHING. I will NOT be returning here to a place with this kind of poor customer service. ***UPDATE*** After, sending a complaint via their website, we did receive a call from the manager Jeff to find out some more information of what exactly happened that night. He also thanked us for letting him know because without us telling him he can't fix what needs to be fixed. We did give them another try and he picked up the bill, which was very nice. Arrived with a group of 10 for a dinner on a Wednesday night. It took them a while to seat us even though there were plenty of tables they just couldn't figure out where to seat us (which was the reason for my review only giving them 4 stars). It took longer than expected to seat us which was a tad annoying. But after we were seated we had a pretty good experience here. Our waitress was polite and courteous. Atmosphere was good although there were a few instances where we had to request twice for something (switching one of the tv channels, water, etc). Me and my family love going to Smokey Bones on our weekly family outings. The service is usually ok but today it was horrible. The dining room was closed because they had no server . So my family and I ordered to go which was perfectly fine! Everything was going smoothly til we checked the bad and my mothers shrimp and side salad were not there. Last time I went to Smokey Bones in Newport News and their HH was something like 1/2 off all appetizers. :( Food was mediocre. I had The Cuban sandwich (greasy and overly toasted) with fries (good but skimpy amount) and BBQ baked beans (too saucy, need more beans). I had some of my friend's kettle chips for an app: small portion, but tasty trio of dipping sauces. Beware: these are more like round french fries than potato chips. Our server wasn't very knowledgeable. She didn't know about happy hour specials, so had to ask the bartender. When I presented a 10 off 20 coupon, she said "are you sure you want to use it?" We went there because the wife wanted salmon and I was going to order the veterans meal special which turned out to be a big mistake. Luckily the meal was free because I would not pay for the food otherwise. The selection for the meal was a pulled pork sandwich with fries., sounded good but as it turned out the bun was over toasted, the meat was dried out and there was not much in the way fries. A pulled pork sandwich normally comes with slaw but there was none, and normally has bbq sauce but again there was none. We started with the Pretzel Bones, make this a must have. Delicious soft pretzels with dipping sauces. My wife had a Smokin Cucumber Mary, which had to be one of the best bloody Mary's I have ever stolen a taste of. For entrees we ordered the Pulled Pork Platter and the Brisket Platter. We love coming here. The staff is always polite and attentive. The food is always prepared to order and tastes amazing. There a tons of TV sets around the bar around to watch so you don't miss any game time. We got three appetizers "on the house" but didn't get a choice so most of it was wasted. They did get our drinks correct. Hour plus to get our food. Kids were restless. Food was par for the course. The Nacho's were creamy and crunchy, some Jalapenos to give it some heat without being overly too spicy. I love that they put BBQ sauce on their loaded fries. The baked beans here are out of this world, I cannot even make them close to Smokey Bones. Had Ordered a Pulled pork sandwich, also Fish & Chip's they were delicious! I have been in Virginia for almost four years now, and i have driven past this resturant dozens of times. I really wanted to try it before i transfer in july, and i was not disappointed. Its a steak and ribs joint so I figured Id go with it and get the ribs. Flavour was amazing. And the selection of sauces that you can add to your meat was a rarity as well. Coolest aspect for me was the integrated pay-at-table machine, which was something I had never seen before. Pretty neat little feature.
