Mo's BBQ Salad
Aj J.

More on the budget side of bbq you have Smokey Mo's and it is pretty good. My go-tos consist of their bbq salads or their spuds. While their sandwiches are on the smaller side they are still tasty. I'm not too keen on any of their sides though. They could really use a better (meaning baked) mac and cheese with a good crust on it. Their smoked turkey is very good and I don't really eat much brisket anymore but theirs is good also. The service is always friendly and quick. Always a great quick salad for me!

I always love to go to the Smokey Mo's. I crave BBQ constantly and the Smokey Mo's offers great food, service, and the food is relatively affordable considering how much it costs to eat out these days. I love their sausage. It's mouth-wateringly tender, flavorful and it also comes in jalapeño if your palette favors the spicy. It also pairs quite well with their BBQ sauce which is a nice blend of sweet and smokey. I really dig their potato salad which is nice and moist. It scoops like ice cream and is tasty like a scoop of ice cream. Potato salad should never be dry. I'm also rather fond of the macaroni and cheese. My wife says they add a little bit of citric acid to it. It's how they make it so creamy. It is O so creamy. PRAISE CHEESUS! The employees are both courteous and professional. They cut off the blackened portion of my moist brisket at my request to make it easier to chew and digest. Class act! They have bread, pickles and onions out on the floor so you can make your own BBQ sandwich. And I suggest you do. Praise Cheesus!

3 Meat Plate with brisket, sausage, chicken, mac and cheese, and creamed corn

If you are craving BBQ, and your go-to pit has already sold out for the evening, Smokey Mo's stands as a reliable alternative. This establishment dishes out all the classic BBQ staples, each seasoned and cooked in the traditional manner you'd expect. I always try the brisket and sausage, which were good but a bit dry. The highlight was their smoked chicken, which was succulent and infused with a rich, smoky essence. The side dishes--creamy mac and cheese, luscious creamed corn, and hearty bacon ranch potatoes--were all seasoned to perfection and quite satisfying, though it was evident that they had been reheated rather than prepared fresh. The 'sloppy mo' was a let down. It was cold, small in portion, and just looked unappetizing. Overall, Smokey Mo's is a basic fast-food BBQ joint, from its unremarkable decor to its approach to food preparation. Despite these drawbacks, the flavors generally hit the spot, making it a decent option for those sudden BBQ cravings.

Brisket

Ordered pick up from here. Sides and turkey were decent. Service was friendly. But my lord this brisket was drier than the Sahara desert. Can't have that in Texas

Chopped sandwich w side of beans....or a tablespoon of beans rather
Sasha R.

Well you can definitely tell there is different ownership here. This Smokey Mo's has gone down hill for sure. We purchased 3 meals- chopped sandwich w side of beans, 2 meat combo, a brisket plate, and choc cake slice...$65.00. Holy wow! That side of beans you see in the pic is half the size the sides used to be. The brisket was dry, the beans had no flavor, and the sides are the size of a sample cup from Costco. So while the food has gone downhill, those prices have surely found the uphill.

Breakfast bowl

This is the first time I've ever left a negative review. I am so disappointed with the food I just received. I ordered the breakfast bowl and paid extra for brisket and potatoes. There was a tiny sliver of brisket and I counted 8 tiny diced potatoes that look stale. I also received a sweet tea with no ice. Thanks for the room temperature sweet tea and this really unappetizing breakfast bowl.

From the moment we walked in, the hostess gave us a warm welcome, and we were seated right away. It took our server a little while to get to our table, but she arrived with waters in hand, which was appreciated. We started with the fried green tomatoes. They were good, though I've definitely had better back home in Houston. For my entrée, I ordered the Badass Bacon Plate, and it absolutely hit the spot. Everything on the plate was delicious, from the thick-cut slab of bacon to the perfectly cooked scrambled eggs. I especially appreciated that the eggs were seasoned before cooking, something I don't often see at restaurants, and it really made a difference. The hash brown casserole was also fantastic and tied the whole meal together. My brother ordered the fried chicken biscuit and thoroughly enjoyed every bite. Although our server was clearly very busy, the restaurant had a great team approach. Other staff members checked on us, refilled drinks, and made sure we had everything we needed, so we never felt neglected. Overall, it was a great dining experience with delicious food, friendly hospitality, and excellent teamwork. I would definitely recommend Phoebe's Diner if you're looking for a satisfying breakfast or brunch in Austin.

It has been a few years since my husband and I tried this place (*think it just opened when we…read morefirst tried it in 2022). Back then, my husband was not happy, you could not order coffee at the table, you had to go to the other side and get coffee and then bring to to the table if you wanted breakfast. Well, a LOT has changed with this place since then. #1...they will bring you what ever coffee you want to order, and they will pick up from next door and bring it to you (husband was happy about that). #2, they now serve lunch and dinner (*we didn't try that yet, but will be back to try that later). Now, Rebecca our server was so nice! She put up with my husband's "shanigans", as he always tries to joke about with everyone! He was hungry, so got the "Big Ol' Breakfast", which had your eggs, half a ham steak, sausage, bacon (Oh, sooo good) breakfast potatoes (could have been just a little more "crisped up), and pancakes!! He cleaned his plate!! LOL! I had (and did not realize until I read my last review, I had "half" of same I ordered before), the Benedict Sampler (where you can choose TWO of benedicts). I got the "Southwest Steak" (*which is what I had last time..LOL), ohhh soo good! If you like "Spicy"...get this...the green chiles and cilantro-lime sauce make this dish! Then, the other one was the "Golden State" with tomato, bacon and avocado (*and little spice too with Siracha sauce on top), and also had the very good breakfast potatoes! Rebecca checked on us often, and we were both glad we came back to this place! We will be back again!

The good news is there are several places that have waitlists and there are even some places that take reservations so if you're planning includes a time that's likely to attract a lot of diners. I would suggest that would be the way to decide your destination. We did in fact, use the waitlist Sunday at Perky Beans. It allowed us to see how many parties were in front of us and advised that we would be texted when our table was ready. We waited about a half hour in our vehicle until we were texted and then headed in and we were seated immediately. Junny was our server. She seated us and gave us menus. I ordered a Hazelnut Coffee and a Virgin Mary(bloody Mary without the alcohol). My granddaughter ordered Water. We took a few minutes looking over the menus. There were quite a few options. Lots of tempting items, but it's hard for me to turn down biscuits and gravy since I love homemade biscuits and unfortunately mine don't turn out-2 eggs and home fried potatoes accompanied that. My granddaughter ordered the " sample the Eggs Benedict," which offered her the option of choosing two half Benedicts offered-which is a great way to determine your preference. She also opted for the home fried potatoes. Right about then Junny went and got my Virgin Mary, which they had really done up nicely! It was every bit as pretty as the alcoholic version with a nice crisp celery, stick, and a Gerkin pickle, Green olive and fresh Orange section. It was very tasty. We waited about 40 minutes for our food. It was very busy and I think it's difficult to manage the coffee side of the café along with the dining room side especially on a very busy Sunday. (That is why I deducted one star from our rating.) It did appear that they had adequate service staff, of course we couldn't observe the kitchen area so not sure how many cooks. We did enjoy the restaurant as a whole and we do plan to return to order some of the other delicious offerings on the menu. Fantastic to have a great brunch option right in Leander!!!
