It's so difficult to be supportive of this community business when I am constantly battling receiving my order correctly prepared. The BBQ itself is mostly good but the accuracy is more misses than hits. Tonight, I had enough of it and brought the error to their attention in a reasonable fashion expressing my concerns of the frequency this has happened. Their comments consisted of telling me the person who made my baked potato was already gone and then the manager on duty said he would remake it for me but he's unable to do anything about the consistent errors because he's going to manage another store on Monday?!?! Their core values tout providing excellence in the community but as for me & my family we are not sure whether we want to continue to do business with them in Leander. I mean, how hard is it to put butter, sour cream and cheese only on a potato? (Mine was riddled w/ chives that couldn't easily be picked out and I can't tolerate them) The specifications are clearly printed in RED on the ticket. I would extend grace if it was a one off error but it's frequent. When I dove into the 2nd freshly made potato, it didn't have any butter... still wrong but at least edible. I'm sooooo disappointed! On a positive note, I commend the manager for throwing in dessert but I didn't have the heart to tell him I don't eat banana pudding. I get that it's fast food but I do wish people would take pride and ownership of their work. Work ethic is so rare these days. :( read more

Morris and Lisa sold the company a little over a year and a half ago. The service and food quality have slowly declined ever since. It also speaks volumes they had the same managers/staff members for years, and now most of the names and faces at the different locations have changed. We're big fans of Rudy's, but decided to try Smokey Mo's instead of driving into North Austin. Smokey Mo's did not disappoint!!! We ordered brisket, turkey, sausage and chicken. The chicken and the turkey were exceptionally good. So tender and so flavorful. The brisket was really good as well. We usually choose the extra moist at Rudy's so this wasn't quite as tender as that, but that's because the cut was different. As far as flavor goes, their brisket had great char and was flavorful and delicious. The sausage was also good, I prefer Rudy's flavor, but this was pretty close and it was still delicious. For the sides we ordered the creamed corn, coleslaw and macaroni and cheese. The Mac n cheese could be hit or miss depending on your preference. I thought it was delicious, but my husband wasn't the biggest fan. The cheese is really thick and creamy, making for a pretty dense side. The coleslaw also had great flavor, I prefer my coleslaw to be more on the tangy side and this wasn't, it was definitely more creamy, but it also wasn't soupy and had plenty of flavor. The creamed corn was good. It was thick and creamy, not too runny. Overall we were expecting it to be just average bbq, but it exceeded our expectations and now know we live dangerously close to good barbecue. read more

I would give zero stars if I could. Just moved from cedar park to leander and used to constantly go to smokey mos over there. This one in leander is a joke. I have come in 3 times now asking for a baked potato to be told each time they were out. Seriously? They have lost a customer trying to save so much money they are worried about being stuck with a ten cent potato at the end of the day. I guess they would rather risk a poor review, a lost customer and social media negative word of mouth than get stuck with a couple extra potatoes at the end of the day if they don't sell. I called them to let them know someone answered the phone and was very kind but didn't seem to care about the situation asked me if I know what a cooked potato was like I assured him I in fact did then he said they'd call back never did. Came in for some Texas BBQ at 7:30pm on a Tuesday night. I've seen this place on my radar when I'm in the area so I figured I would finally pop in. The venue wasn't crowded, but had a few tables filled. I ordered a combo plate with moist brisket and jalapeño sausage. For sides I got the coleslaw and buttered potatoes. They were out of ribs today unfortunately. The brisket was really moist and very tasty. My only regret is that I didn't order more. The sides and jalapeño sausage tasted good too. They left out our Turkey, the pinto beans were scorched (and they tried to mask with sugar and vinegar.), the brisket and ribs both were both dried out and the green beans had zero salt. I do not recommend this place if you actually enjoy bbq. I would rather go to 1431 and get Alzers or drive all the way to north Austin for Rudy's. When it comes to brisket the right way to enjoy is moist. All these lean cut are healthier but is pretty much just over cooked meat. But Smokey mo's brisket is just terrible all cuts. I live in the area and have been going to Smokey Mos since the first store in CP opened. We even go to church with Mo! Since the sale of the business to someone else, the quality has suffered. While at work we went to the Leander location on Hero Way. The staff was friendly and appeared to be solid workers. If you haven't been to Mos in a while you may want to check the menu to make sure they still have what you like. I unknowingly ordered a Mos Country Salad with chicken. The kid taking my order then advised me that you can't get chicken on the salad. I thought to myself, that's weird, I've always gotten chicken. He advised me that they would have to put a half chicken, bones and all, on it to accommodate. He advised that they no longer have shredded chicken, so if you like the chicken tacos, you will be disappointed since the don't have them anymore. I then asked what other meat can I get, thinking that he would only list 2 or 3. He advised I could get any other meat. So I settled for Turkey. I also then ordered a chopped wrap for a little extra fill up. So we get back to the office and I open my bag only to see a clear container with a salad in it. I'm getting very upset at this point since I expected it to have a taco salad bowl/shell. That is one of the reasons I loved this salad. Then I got to looking at the lettuce, since the container is clear, and not only is is just iceberg lettuce, it is rusted and some of it was mushy on the bottom. I had to sift through the box and discard over half of the lettuce. So after eating what was left, really only about half of the rest, I moved onto the chopped wrap. The chopped bar-b-que was dry but not bad. So the big disappointment of the whole trip is knowing that I paid 16+ dollars with a 15% tip. I always tip! And finding out from a friend that they no longer have anything fried! WTF. When someone orders something that used to come with a fried part to it, you may want to tell them what they are getting instead of assuming they know. Some of the reviews on here are a bit harsh...Let's take Marcie for example: she says that 2.50$ is too much for a side....Pretty sure the sides at KFC are more than that and worse quality...The guy says the BBQ IS TOO SPICY, NO ITS NOT THE SAUCE IS AWESOME. Living in BFE I had to drive to Cedar Park or Liberty Hill to satisfy my BBQ fix but alas expansion and growing population has offered business to expand so it isn't so BFE anymore. The service is always friendly and the food is exactly what I expect from a BBQ joint. I love the sausage & turkey the most but other's who venture here with me love their brisket and ribs. The sauce is good too (both regular and spicy) I haven't tried breakfast taco's here yet but the other locations have always satified. Major Con: If coming from the eest you have to fight traffic on a two lane road with no dedicated turn lane to get into the parking lot. I ordered a meal online, for curbside pickup. They called me back to say they were out of ribs and I told them i would call Liberty Hill and order from there instead. I noticed a week later that they still charged me for the ribs that they didn't have. When i called in about this, the person I talked to, Cassie, was very rude about the whole thing. Trying to make it my problem. She said they transferred the order to LH, but i had no idea and so i placed my own order with LH and picked it up. We had friends staying with us this weekend and came here to pickup breakfast tacos for them one morning since it's close to the house. The one I had was bacon, egg, cheese, and potato. Delicious! Everything was hot and steamed perfectly into a warm flour tortilla. The potatoes were roasted beforehand which I was a huge fan of since they kept a little crunch. We also got chorizo tacos, brisket tacos, and the regular sausage/bacon varieties. Lots of mmmms all around. As far as their non breakfast food I still can't speak for that, but I would definitely come back to get more breakfast tacos in the future. The price was great too. All of the tacos were $1.75 each except the brisket tacos which were $2.75 each. They were packed full though so it was well worth it. I absolutely love this place! I am from Seattle and every year when I come to visit my brother who now lives in Leander, TX I have to stop here first. The beef brisket is my favorite, it is so tender and just melts in your mouth. I even eat it cold the next day for breakfast, it is that good. There are several locations for this BBQ place but we usually come to this one. The staff is very friendly and the customers are as well. I keep trying to figure out a way to big some home, maybe next trip. Keep up the great work of making yummy BBQ and I will see you on my next trip to Texas.
