It's not always easy to get your hands (literally) on the best ribs on the East End, but when you do it's well worth the effort. Ordered last night for 6 hungry people and we all were overwhelmed by everything we ate. The ribs were the best I've ever had: top quality meat, juicy, falling off the bone, smoky, crisp on the outside, with a perfect BBQ sauce accompaniment. (Way better than "that other rib place" in Sagaponack.) The BBQ'd chicken was succulent, cooked perfectly, and well, perfect! The sides were all great: mashed potatoes, cole slaw, and fries all top-notch. Special praise for amazing baked beans, the likes of which I haven't tasted since my days in the Virginia Blue Ridge Mountains being invited to the locals' famous pig roasts. All in all terrific barbecue and some of the best takeout in the area. Now let's work on expanding those hours of operation a bit! read more

Had the brisket dinner ($22) and the ribs lunch ($9.95)...brisket was mostly fat throughout the thin slices which made it hard to cut off. What meat there was was tasty. The ribs are good. Cornbread, baked beans, garlic potatoes and mac and cheese are pretty tasteless and so not worth the price. Fyi gor those who can't tolerate spicy, there's only one bbq sauce available and it has a kick. Seating is limited and even if there are only 5 people dining in, you will wait forever for your food. read more

WOW. The best BBQ I have ever had, hands down. This place is a must for you to try. Ribs were perfectly cooked, delicious, and that BBQ sauce was through the roof. The bbq pulled chicken quesadilla was probably the best I have ever had and that is one of my favorite foods so I can attest to that. Crab cake was good, Mac and cheese was delicious. This nice little place deserves several different reviews: THE EAST HAMPTON REVIEW If you know this area, you know that everything is insanely expensive due to the stratospheric real estate prices -- I don't know how ANY retail business can afford to survive here. Compared to other restaurants in town, this is affordably priced, less attitude, and a welcome relief. THE I'M-NOT-FROM-HERE REVIEW I got a sandwich and fries to go (no drink) and it was an astonishing $16. The fries were great, and the sandwich was modestly sized and fine, but not life changing. (And at that price I would have preferred it to be a little closer to life changing!) Sixteen dollars at most quality barbecue places I know would provide enough food to induce blackout. Again, I attribute this to the insane real estate prices in The Hamptons and NOT to greed on the part of the restaurant owners, but there I was... THE RACIST REVIEW When I walked in there were two friendly African-American women working behind the counter. Great! This whole part of Long Island is whiter than white (not counting the army of landscapers and trades-people), so this was a welcome change. And of course many (not all...) of the finest barbecue pitmasters in the country are black too -- authentic regional food comes to The Hamptons at last! That is, until I spotted the chef -- a very nice white guy wearing a chef's jacket with his name on it. Don't read too much into all this -- probably says more about ME than about the restaurant -- just my own weird preconceptions. THE BARBECUE OBSESSED REVIEW OK, I confess -- I am a barbecue snob. (Barbecue snot?) I have flown. I have driven. From Kansas City to Lockhart to Memphis to Houston to North Carolina... And my heart goes out to barbecue pitmasters everywhere -- no matter what you serve, some whiney nut like me is going to wander in and say, "Well.. this was OK, but have you ever been to That Famous Barbecue Place or Some Really Obscure Barbecue Joint? Now THAT'S barbecue," blah, blah, blah... I enjoyed my brisket sandwich here. It was served in a style with which I am not familiar -- on a hamburger-style roll with a thin slice of raw onion, dill pickle slices, and sauce. Again, I think this is probably appropriate for the neighborhood -- I just don't see any restaurant in The Hamptons getting away with serving on a big piece of butcher paper with meat, sauce, and bread scattered about like you find in some other parts of the country. I though the texture of the meat was superb -- moist without being too fatty, but everyone has their barbecue preferences, and I would have liked a more smokey and/or spicy taste. Go figure -- that's just me. I'm sure that intelligent fellow diners could disagree. Sauce was standard commercial stuff. As noted above, I thought the serving size was way too small for the price, but attribute that to the crazy local prices and not to the restaurant management. Note that this place does not sell itself as strictly barbecue -- there's lots of other stuff on the menu too. I'll be back to try the ribs and pulled pork. read more

Party of seven did not work out so well: - Ordered ahead and food was not available when expected - Did not receive drinks with meal until halfway through meal - Food was overcooked - but generally just ok Mgmt was not helpful - had issue with barbecue dispenser being plugged up which resulted in mess - Response from manager with dark hair and glasses is that most people know better not to squeeze so hard. I was really hoping that this place would provide some good 'ol BBQ goodness in the Hamptons, but I guess I had my hopes set too high. I stopped by this restaurant on a July 4th weekend while I was in the area and I have to honestly say I was quite disappointed with the place. The items on the menu are priced on the expensive side, which I don't mind at all granted they are actually worth in taste, but the food that I got from the kitchen was downright mediocre. I always love me some BBQ but this place just couldn't deliver. First off the Wolfman Burger tasted like a regular burger with some Sloppy Joes on top--definitely couldn't live up to its name. Then the grilled chicken breast sandwich was just sad. No flavor to it and the grilled onions were just raw. I couldn't have asked for a more disappointing meal. I also got a side of mashed sweet potato (which was pretty good) but when I have to look to the side dishes as the only positive of a restaurant, then I know something went wrong. This place truly has potential. They just need to step up their game and bring on really good tasting BBQ cooking before they can call themselves "Smokin Wolf". Went Wednesday night and loved it! Had ribs and the BBQ Chicken. All top notch. Ribs were tender and almost falling off the bone and they weren't boiled first. Chicken was all natural which might not matter to some but is important to me -- have enough hormones, thank you! My son had the grilled chicken fingers from the kids menu. First off the portion was extremely generous for a kids meal and my picky-eater devoured it. Really great place to take the family -- nice but casual and totally comfortable. Red potato salad was awesome -- a touch of heat makes it so much more than the generic potato salad we've all become accustomed to and the collard greens were perfect -- not an easy feat for a Yankee! ;) read more

I am not the kind of person that writes negative reviews but I left this place feeling like I'ld been robbed. How do you mess up nachos? Send them out without the cheese melted and burn the chips. If you say you are a BBQ place then you should rock your BBQ. Don't send out black beans that were just poured from a can. And the best thing we ordered was a salad. In a BBQ place. The fajitas would have been great, if , say, you were on an airplane. What happened to Turtle Crossing? That was at least authentic somewhat. I hope they can pull this place together. Maybe hire a good cook? Or just taste the food before you serve it? The service was weak and the parking was inexplicably ridiculous. Save your money. Loved this place. Got a Cowboy Girl quesadilla with a Caesar salad. Love the sweet of the mango salsa and the salty of the guacamole. Side salad was surprisingly larger than I expected. I think they even out some BBQ sauce in the Caesar dressing. Husband tried the Turkey Wrap and said the turned very good. Also tried the marble brownie which was soft and rich. Portions sized are large. It would be nice if they listed on their website that they are closed on Mondays during the summer because we just so happen to go on Monday and found it was closed. read more

It was our first time here, and although we were tempted to walk out as soon as we walked in due to the fact that no one was around and the storefront was pretty bare, we really wanted to give this place a try. We're glad we did since the dry rubbed and smoked ribs were pretty good. A word of advice: go here for the bbq, and forget about ordering the non-bbq items on their menu. Their non-bbq items aren't nearly as good as their bbq meats. I'd give this place 4 stars if they were more willing to let us have some paper plates for our take out meal. There were 3 of us, and we were only given 2 plates with a side of eye roll and a huge sigh. The service could have been a little friendlier. Smokin' Wolf catered my mom's 85th birthday party on October 9th and the food was out of this world. We ordered platters of lightly smoked roasted salmon and grilled filet of beef, with a great apple goat cheese salad, roasted potatoes and a medley of roasted vegetables. Been coming here since it was Turtle Crossing. Just got takeout last night and the ribs were not the same. They used to be huge meaty monsters, now they were like smoked baby back sized ribs.
