Great service, friendly staff. Greg, the owner talked me through the process over the phone and was very succinct and courteous. Hector and Richard showed up exactly 20 minutes after calling to confirm they were 20 minutes away and unloaded our 15 foot Uhaul in less than an hour. And the price was so reasonable! Do not use this company! They sent unskilled day laborers who don't know how to pack or follow basic and repeated directions, I had done 70&% of the packing for a local move when I had an injury and hand surgery. I called Smooth Move based on a recommendation. They were able to schedule me in 2 days which in retrospect was a bad omen. They charge hourly. I marked things meant to stay behind with post-it notes as the owner suggested and explained it to the crew. Lamps were to stay so I could take them by car and had post-its. They promptly started loading things meant to stay. I must have told them the lamps stay at least 5 times. They took 4 of 5 lamps. Packing was careless and without any respect for my belongings. It looked as if a 12 y/o had done it. Dishes were packed without paper between, a full waste basket was packed yet they left items behind, nice sofa pillows were crammed into a box to pad bare steel speaker stands, expensive appliances looked like they were literally thrown in the box and unprotected from all the other things they threw in. The owner responded "Nothing was broke so I guess it was OK". That is a pretty low bar for a mover to use! At the new house they had 3 entrances and 3 men. They put large heavy boxes LABELED for kitchen, dining room, etc. in the basement. I can't use my right hand to move them. They put furniture in the wrong room immediately after being told where to put it. They assembled beds in the wrong rooms! One was up a very tight stair case. I was paying hourly and thus paid for their mistakes. Then they couldn't get my bed assembled correctly and tried to blame it in the carpet. Their crew boss tried to convince me the center leg under the mattress support is sitting too high because of the carpet. I had to explain that the other 4 legs are on the same carpet (and that took some convincing) and he suggested maybe it was thicker in the area under the center leg (we are talking at least an inch too high). They had the side boards upside down as I pointed out. These guys likely assemble more beds in a week than I will in a life time yet are incompetent. They left a workbench under the carport instead of in the basement. They transported my high end bicycles in a way could damage them. They almost lost the fin to my SUP because it wasn't attached as the SUP was marked to stay. My basement has 2 sides, the shop and main part. All sports equipment was to go in the main side which easily accessed from an outside door. 4 bikes, 4 surfboards, kiteboarding gear, camping gear, SUP were all put in the shop area. The owners response to my complaints: He blamed me for not supervising the crew adequately. 3 men going in 3 directions who cannot follow basic moving concepts (packing, labeling, putting items in the corresponding room, etc.) and who acknowledge but don't follow instructions? He blamed me for leaving the house to get cash as if 30" of leaving their crew "unsupervised" was the cause of their mistakes. They don't take credit, I can't write a check with my left hand and they wouldn't give me an estimate until they were done. He blamed not catching the wrongly placed items on me for not doing a "walk through". His crew never brought up that idea and I suggested that maybe they, the professional movers, are to blame? And I was busy showing them how to put a bed together and tried to school them on the basic laws of physics at the end of the day. While I was paying the bill they closed up the truck without letting me check it. I asked if it was empty. They left with a $1500 kite in a large bright bag which would be hard to miss. I hired another moving company (Strategic Moving) and they canceled on me the morning of my move. I was lucky enough to come across Smooth Move and they had an opening that day. The movers were on time, and even though I was the last move of the day, they were incredibly fast and were able to move my one bedroom into the new place within two hours, under $200. They were respectful of my things and didn't scratch a single wall. I will recommend them to anyone looking to move. read more

I've used Smooth Move People twice now. Today, Joe and Hector helped me move out of my apartment in Corvallis to my fiancé's apartment in Tualatin. They also helped move and store my additional belongings in a storage unit a few miles away. Joe and Hector were on time, packed very quickly, were considerate of my things, and were very friendly. when people move, unless they are idiots, they have set schedules for the major components of said move (packed up by this time, the truck at this time, out by this time, taking care of utilities at this time, etc.). i booked this company's services for 2pm on my move out day in between getting the truck at 1pm and having my walk through at 3pm. when i initially scheduled their services, i was told that they give estimates about their arrival, but that they should arrive right around 2 depending on their previous job. i was assured by the lady on the phone that the movers would be at my place "around 2; maybe 2:15 or 2:30 at the latest." at 2:25, i called the company to ask where the movers were and ended up leaving a message. five minutes later, i received a call from their owner. he told me that my movers were still on their previous job and would be for a while, that they would call me when they were on their way, and that i should bank on a half hour between their call and their arrival. i asked him why they give estimates about their arrival time if this is how close to said arrival time they might arrive. he told me that they "are like a cable company; we give estimates about when we might show up." no apology. no mutual understanding. no compassion. no accountability. cable companies give windows when they might show up, not specific times. basically, my issue lies in the lack of explanation at the front end and the poor execution of their services. had i known that whatever time they quote is just an arbitrary guess and not an actual goal for them, had i known that their attitude would be nonchalant about schedules and time tables, had i known that this company actually sucks from the top down, i would have gone elsewhere immediately without wasting my time with this unprofessional company. kids, don't use this company. you're better off any other way. read more

I highly recommend this company and the team of Hector and Dave. From the point of placing the request for a few, heavy items to be moved through to the actual move, I was impressed. The charges were clearly explained so I knew what to expect and what I would be charged based on what I asked to be done. It was so great to pay for what I needed and not more moving expenses. Don't even go there! They were on the job an hour and left without notice. This because I requested they did not pack my breakable items at the front of a 53 ft. truck. The first bottom box they placed in the truck was labeled 'Tiffany Lamp". Go figure. The replacement movers I found, Star Moving, came within a couple of hours, repacked everything this odd company had done and saved my move. They also worked twice as fast as smooth move. I moved from 1 house to another, from SE Portland to Vancouver, these guys were awesome. Walter and Les, great guys, they worked very hard, we have some big heavy stuff, including the lovesack, they were very careful of the property and walls, they laid down blankets to not dirty up the entryways, didn't milk the clock, we paid by the hour, they showed up in a huge 24 foot truck. Smooth Move People moved me on June 30, 2015. They arrived 30 minutes early. They were very professional - had my entire 2nd floor apartment loaded in the truck in 40 minutes and unloaded in 45 min. At the end of August we needed help getting our stuff out of storage and moved into a 3rd floor apartment. The idea of having to load the heavy items and mounds and mounds of bags and boxes was just overwhelming. Smooth Move People was suggested to us by the agent who uses them regularly and I have to tell you I was so glad we did. They called when they were 30 minutes away which put them at the storage unit at the start of the 2 hour window we had been given. They were professional - quick and careful - only asked 1 time if it was ok to take a break and that was after moving over half our load up 3 flights of stairs. We have used Smooth Move People for the 2nd move here in Portland. Both times they have been incredible. Greg got us all set up with a 1 weeks notice of us having to move and got us exactly what we needed. Like boxes which are priced low:) and the size truck to accommodate between both apartments allowance of truck size. They are on time and they get the job done smoothly:) When using Smooth Move People ask for Joe (who we had for both moves and is absolutely amazing ), Brandon and Patrick. I work with adults with disabilities and used this company about a year ago to move one of my clients into his new apartment. They provided us with a window for when they'd show up at his which is not at all unusual. It was, as I recall 9 AM-3 PM. My client took the day off work just to be safe. Ultimately he should have just worked and made some money. Sometime after 3 PM, having waited all day, I called Greg to get an ETA for the movers. He said they were on their way. By 4 they had still not shown up. I called again and was informed that they were still at their previous location, which clearly means that they were NOT "on their way" earlier. Then, Greg revealed to me that they were in fact nearly an hour away (I can't remember the city they were in at this point..but it was far..and during rush hour..and I want to say it was like the friggin' Dalles or something). In a subsequent call I asked Greg if he could call the movers to see how much longer it would be, as my company was paying for extra staff to sit around with us and wait to assist with the move. He said there was no point as it would "slow them down"...whatever the hell that means. His attitude was incredible and he acted like it was an inconvenience whenever I called. I eventually left my client with my co-worker and heard later the truck finally got there sometime around 6:00 PM. The move wasn't completed till nearly 7:30 PM as I recall. The movers themselves did a fine job from what I was told. But I've never had such a bad experience with a moving company. I would never recommend them to anybody. You'd be better off taking a Trimet bus to move. Later I had some email exchanges with Greg and never once was he apologetic about the move. I let him know then, and it still stands, that I would never recommend them to any of my coworkers seeking to move their clients. Or anybody for that matter. read more

Worst customer service I have ever experienced. Scheduled for 9:30AM and the owner call at 9AM that the driver is sick and can't make on time. He was extremely rude and kept telling you can cancel it because he knew I do not have other choose. Finally they came at noon. Brook my lamp shade, missing some part of my bed hardware. Any good business person knows that it all starts at the top. This company has the most unethical owner as evidence, his employees stole more than 12K of jewelry from our family. Upon calling him out on this, he explained that none of his guys would do this and that wasn't like them. He dodged contact for weeks and took no authority of finding out why his trusted employees are stealing from his clients. Bottom line from him, he doesn't care, not his problem and basically we're liars. I strongly recommend you find another moving company, this isn't a reliable or ethical business Greg Rivelli is operating! It disgust me that someone could be so low to steal family jewelry that has been around since our great-grandmother and then do nothing about it. The most disturbing part about this was it wasn't sitting out in sight. They had to dig for this jewelry and they shouldn't have even been in that area of our house. Even if he changes his company name or finds new employees, I wouldn't pay money for your valuables to be compromised by this crook. Ok folks . Greg is nuts do not use this company. He became absolutely unhinged yesterday at me over the phone. The call was recorded and I will be releasing it on a special web site we are going to build for him. I got his info from Habitat For Humanity Restore (Their retail stores) I have contacted them because this is really serious and they will no longer be using him. This guy is dangerous and honestly, he scares me because anyone who behaves the way he did is capable truly of anything. He screamed and I mean screamed at me on the phone threatening to kill my animals. Then called me 3 times threatening me. I called the police and will post the case # when I get to work today. He accused me of getting his 2 guys sick saying my service animals were sick when they came and picked stuff up. I have rabbits, 2 of them have something called econiculi (spelling?) which is a brain parasite, not transferable to anything else but another bunny and through their pee. He threatened to call OSHA and have them come take my animals. I am telling you people, this guy is gone. He can seem real nice on the phone, but trust me, this is such a fake exterior. Do not use them. He damaged badly hard wood floors and will not pay for it, his guy smelled like a brewery and we will not let him back on the property to fix what he said he won't fix anyway. DO NOT USE THEM! READ THE REVIEWS HE HAS DONE THIS BEFORE. HE IS NUTS AND NOW I ACTUALLY FEAR FOR MY FAMILY'S SAFETY. DO NOT USE THESE PEOPLE!!! They were 45 minutes early, didn't call, destroyed hardwood floors then tried to blame it on me saying one of the feet was missing off the bottom of the armoire that they drug across the floor with nothing under it. I stopped payment on the check because his guy told me that Greg would never fix the floor. It is about $400 worth of damage as there are 5 or 6 long, deep gouges in the hardwood floor. Read the reviews folks, some are real good, most are VERY bad. Trust the majority! He goes under a couple other moving names too. He was constantly interrupting me, not willing to listen to what I had to say, contradicting me, rude, abrasive, and aggressive. Jeremy and Hans did an amazing job at moving my 85 year old mother. They were considerate, efficient and professional but yet personable. They worked hard and made sure that everything was protected and safe. They were also very considerate to the fact that my elderly mother was moving out of a home she'd lived in for the past 29 years. I have to edit my earlier review because the last time I used Smooth Move (in 2017) they sent a couple of guys who arrived very late and worked really slow with lots of breaks making it twice as expensive for the same household stuff as they moved for me the year before. Prices hadn't changed but the service was worse! I also discovered when I unpacked that some boxes were missing and one very valuable family treasure. It was months later when I unpacked my stuff from storage so I figured they wouldn't do anything when so much time had passed. I had the impression the guys they sent might be day laborers. One was a tall lanky blondish guy that recently moved from the Southeast US. A real smooth talker but I saw him take a box of stuff from a loading dock at my storage unit as they were leaving and I know it wasn't his. If they send that guy - watch him close. Before that I had used Smooth Move people twice and been really happy both times. I recommended them to friends too who used them and liked them. The previous times they sent great guys, who took good care of my stuff and made a stressful situation easier. I recommend them if they send their main people or longtime employees but wasn't impressed with the new guys I got this last time. read more

After moving into a walk up apartment on the third floor, I vowed never to move on my own again. Smooth Move was scheduled to be at the apartment between 3-4pm, called at 3pm to let me know they were an hour away and showed up at precisely 4pm. I stood back and pointed to what had to be moved and the guys moved quickly and efficiently, moving a king size bed and heavy sofabed with the greatest of ease down the 3 flights of stairs (and of course without my blood, sweat and tears!). Free insurance, $70 an hour for two guys, huge truck for a minimum two hours. No pain on my side, and my furniture showed up at the house without a scratch. read more

I wish I could comment on the quality of their actual moving services, but we never got that far. We had to reschedule our move the day before it was scheduled due to a bad lender (not ours) that was holding up the process. We called Smooth Move as soon as we had the information, and yet he still had to say how he really wish he'd known sooner because he had turned away so many other people and then went on and on about the hot weather predicted on the day we wanted to re-schedule, and how he really had hoped for a lighter day that day. Really? I was next to tears about the move being delayed anyway (hardly convenient with 3 young kids) and then he turns around and tries to assign blame inappropriately (first on me, then on my realtor). When I called back because it we thought we might be able to make a deal with the owners of the house we were to move into, he was cold as ice. We've used them for two moves now, and when we move a third time, you can bet we will use them again. Its never an issue getting ahold of them to schedule a move, and Greg has always been willing to tweak plans that get fouled up due to customers goofs. these are the people to use. We moved at the end of October and used these guys. They were okay - 2 guys came out and got our stuff over to the new place...almost. First, it took a really long time for these 2 guys to move a 2 bedroom apartment's worth of stuff. 4 hours. It took 4 hours. It wasn't even a hard move. They were really nice, to their credit. But one of the guys did try to shove a chair into a doorway that clearly wouldn't fit, and if my husband hadn't seen him he could have easily damaged the new place's door. The worst part about it was that a box of ours is missing. I doubt it was stolen (it was full of glass baking ware and corning ware) because all of it was really old and very well used. I honestly think it broke and the guys dumped it. I realized this almost right away because the kitchen is one of the first rooms I unpack. I called the company and got a long message back about this process that they have regarding how they check the truck after the move and that the guy on the phone guarantees that they don't have it. Great - it's still missing, and the only people in the old or new place aside from us were your employees. Basically I gave them 2 stars for being nice. That's about it. read more

Dishonest and Rude I hired Smooth Move People to pack and move my household items less than two miles. The owner, Greg R., quoted packing/moving labor costs, then demanded more than double that "estimate" after the move. His employees caused more than $1,000 of damage to my property, then he blamed me for not supervising his crew as they loaded the truck. It was more than 10 months before Greg arranged to repair my broken washer and dryer. The "Estimate." When I first contacted Smooth Move People, I asked Greg how much packing and moving would cost. He asked me how large my home was and whether it was furnished sparsely, average or more than average. After answering his questions, Greg told me that the job would require two men one day to pack, and two men one day to move. He asked me to move all clothing, electronics, artwork and glass table tops. Prior to moving day, I moved those items AND a medium sized U-Haul truck full of property. This significantly reduced the job that Greg's crew had to do. Two men showed up on packing day, but quit early when they ran out of boxes. (Greg had assured me that they always brought extra boxes to avoid this problem) The next day, two men showed up in one truck which was completely disabled when the front axle broke. Another truck arrived a few hours later. One of the men told me that a third man was coming to help with the move, and that I would not be charged for his time. At 11:30 pm, the man in charge of the move told me that they had not finished moving all my property. He showed me a cellphone picture of my garage full of items, and told me that it would take another three hours to complete the move. (I moved those items myself at a later date). Then, he asked me to pay the Bill of Lading which charged me for their meal break time and the time spent waiting when their truck broke down. When I objected, he reluctantly reduced the charges by two hours. More importantly, he told me that Greg regularly underestimates moving services when a customer calls, then blames his employees when the customer complains. A few weeks later, Greg demanded that I pay the full bill PLUS labor for the third man called to help on moving day. Including these demands, total labor charges for the job would've been $2,352. Total labor charges based on Greg's "estimate" were only $1,160. I later learned what Greg already knew, that a moving estimate is not binding unless the mover has examined the contents of your home. Damages Many items were damaged during the move, but my main concern was getting my washer and dryer repaired. (Both units required expensive control boards).At first, Greg admitted that the appliances were damaged because his men overloaded the truck. But later, he blamed me for not preventing his men from overloading the truck. (I didn't know that was my job). Six days after the move, I hand delivered a repair estimate for $842 to Greg and asked him to promptly OK the repairs. He refused. Greg insisted that he could find cheaper parts and have his handyman install them. He was angry and frustrated that I would not agree to install the parts myself. Greg would only agree to professional installation if I would cover all labor costs over $100. It took Greg more than 10 months to obtain the parts and arrange for the repairs. And, the washer control board is not under warrantee because of Greg's decision to go cheap. I had to constantly email Greg asking for progress reports. His replies were angry and incoherent. Several times, he promised to deliver the parts, then failed to do so. I complained to ODOT, but they were no help at all. No, this was not a "smooth move." Greg lowballed the "estimate.' Then, his crew left my house a dirty mess and damaged my property. Finally, I had to endure Greg's excuses and hysterics for ten months while my washer and dryer were broken. I was overcharged AND had to pay for damage that I didn't cause. I don't know how this move could've been any worse. read more

Boy do I wish I had read these reviews before hiring this company. They did our move back in August. When we called them to hire them we were quoted 3 hours. That sounded great. We told them we were moving from a 2nd floor apartment to a third floor apartment less then a mile from the original apartment and we were reassured that it would be 3 hours. Thank goodness I had saved enough just in case because the move took 5 hours. When we were just getting to the new place at the 3 hour mark I knew that me and my boys would have to help. My family has done dozens of moves in the last 20 years and we have never had to help this much in order to get a move done. The one mover was so incredibly unprofessional in his behavior towards me that I was uncomfortable the whole time they were here. When we started unpacking the next day we started finding broken items. Probably because of how they used the hand dolly to bring the boxes up. It was overwhelming how much got broken. Again we have moved dozens of times and never had this many things broken. My mom and I were devastated over a few of the items that were irreplaceable. I started taking pictures of all the items because I knew I was going to have to email Greg about it all. After emailing Greg a few times and not hearing back I decided to email the Better Business Bureau because this was completely unacceptable. I did get 2 letters from Greg. One basically blamed us for not being honest about our second apartment which wasn't true. He apologized for his workers behavior but that didn't make me feel any better. He sent us a claim form for all the broken items. When all was said and done we sent in a claim for over $500. When I received a letter and check from Greg it was for $20. He said that they pay for things by weight not cost. That is the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard of. Do not use this company. I do not want to go into detail what the worker did to me but it was the most unacceptable behavior I've ever had a mover show me. Again do not waste your money on this company. read more

DON"T USE these guys. Our experience was a nightmare. They complained the entire time, asked for tips, and asked for beer and wine. They were not professional and it cost us $300 more to move the same amount of items as it had the year prior. We also had damage to our house and our belongings. I expect for some things to happen during a move but the way the staff handled our issues was disappointing and not professional. When we called to complain, the manager hung up on us. To make matters worse we had an expensive watch disappear. They also used fraudulent practices on their paperwork. I could go on and on but I think you can get the point. This is our second move in 18 months, both with Smooth Move. Adolfo and Dave, our movers, are animals. We needed them 2 days this time, one day was the 100 degree hell. They did not snivel, complain, swear or lose their stride. ( I was inside doing all of the above). They work well together, are motivated, considerate and CAREFUL. Moving is the most miserable job on this planet, right? These guys are simply awesome. Not only would I call them again and highly recommend this company I WOULD ACTUALLY MOVE AGAIN JUST TO SAY "HI". Ok, not really but I would hope that your miserable moving experience is lightened by using Smooth Move. After reading other reviews I found that they are punctual, careful, and competent. No nagging needed about how fragile, expensive, sentimental, blah and so forth. Every piece was packed with care and arrived just right. Great movers! Wes & Jesus were right on time, they were nice and fast packers/movers even though we had 2 pick up locations and 2 drop off locations. Plus we spontaneously added another stop along the way to drop off furniture at a donation location. They took care to pack the truck carefully to ensure everything fit and nothing moved around to be damaged. The loaded up their dollies and made every load count. They worked hard the whole time even through the rain. I will never move myself again. Best $350 spent. read more

The movers (Hector) being one, did a horrible job; they did not follow instructions of placement of furniture. The furniture was beat up and not taken care of in the move. Things were left in the truck, furniture was reassembled incorrectly and put in wrong rooms and the boxes were clearly marked. Gratuity was asked for on more than one occasion throughout the process. When my client emailed the owner to let him know the issues, the owner attacked him! He refused to make it right and was incredibly unprofessional and rude. When I called to follow up, I received the same treatment and then he hung up on me. One of the most unprofessional businesses I have ever seen. Now my client (who recently had hand surgery) has to hire someone else to do the job he payed this company to do. I will be turning them into the BBB as well, I do not want to see this happen to anybody else. Please do not use this company, you will be very disappointed in your results! read more

The only smooth move that happen is out of my check book. They original called at 9:00am to say they were pulling in, I ran outside and told them to turn right into the complex. A minute later they pulled in and went left. I waited for 18 minutes, called them again and they claimed they were lost. Small complex. I was trying to keep tack of them and one of the guys disappeared for over 15 minutes, not in the unit, outside or in the truck. I keep looking for him, asking the other guy where he was and he acted like I had not said a word. After 2 1/2 of packing, everything was ready, except I did a walk thru and found boxes left in the bathroom and storage unit was only half unpack. When we finally arrived they broke the overhead light fixture. I spent time unpacking the kitchen, when they said everything was done, only took them 45 minute to unload. They gave me a form to sign, when I questioned them about the start time of 9:00am, they said that was when they got there. I asked them where do I put the broken light fixture down at. They showed me where the light fixture would be covered. I left when they did, went back to the former unit and cleaned, turn in keys, go back and started to unpack some more, when I went into the bedroom, I notice my big mirror was not on the dresser. I look through every room, could find it, call the owner. The next day one of the movers called and said he put it in the walk-in closet, as the mirror was cracked and assume I didn't want it put back on the dresser. I had closed boxes, they unpacked, while I was on the phone with him, I went in the closet and looked and had to pull my stuff back and found the BROKEN MIRROR. This mirror was beveled and mounted. They mirror itself weighed 60 lbs alone, not including the frame. I'm a 60 year old woman with MS. I was so mad at the movers, I called the owner back and he assured me they would pay for this mirror. I told him I had no way of transporting it, especially, unable to even lift it. He said no problem, its covered. The mirror and frame repair cost me $325.07, they gave me a check for $36 for the mirror and $25.00 the actual cost to replace the light fixture. This moving service broke the glass in my sofa table, upper glass and lower glass. they broke the leg on my dresser and then broke the leg or an end table. the movers that were with me gave me a form to fill out and assured me it would be replaced and repaired, I called the owner he began a long litany of how no one ever in all his days ordered $85.00 damage rider on his policy offered to his customers. If you use this man's service be prepared to have you item broken. Be prepared to listen to him tell you he will cover everything. be prepared for the fact that his insurance for $85 covers a small percentage of the repair or replacement cost entailed. The movers are not experienced the owner is hyper and automatically assumes you have a beef with him, before you vouve even gotten past hi. I wonder why this man is so hyperactively defensive. Could it be that he is ripping people off? I would have had better service and fewer broken things had I simply posted an ad on craigslist for moving help. read more
