Snapper Jack's is terrific, the crispy taco shells are my absolute favorite taco shells I have ever had. The nacho's are also very decadent and you can get half chicken and half steak which I am a big fan of. The only bummer for me is that I have never got to have the breakfast burrito there because it is to much of a drive to hit before work :/ read more

Now, for us anyway... the only reason to go to Rubio's is that's it close. But why in the hell would I even mention the R word when talking about Snapper Jacks? I agree, the crispy fish tacos are awesome. I've had them many times. We take the kids here often. They usually share the kids quesadilla. It would be better if they offered some more veggies or fruit for kids as well as fruit juices or milk though. They do have chocolate milk, which the kids love. They also love to watch the surfer movies on the TVs. There were clean highchairs and they are pretty quick with the orders. I've ordered out from here too. My wife likes the chicken taco salad. Even though there is a Baja Fresh about 100 yards away, they are doing pretty well. read more

The place is usually VERY busy when I go pick up my order (take out). I work in Camarillo and usually order my lunch over the phone and then go pick it up. I usually order the Taco salad. Gross. The potatoes are au gratin dripping with nasty sauce. Yucky. Burrito tasted like a Campbell's soup cream-of-potato burrito. Felt like puking afterwards. It was not what you might expect for So Cal Mexican. Its not Mexican. More like some red neck gringo version. Best part of the meal was the side of whole beans which was well seasoned Tex-Mex style. This is a great place for good fish tacos. The menu is simple and the portions are large. One taco is plenty for me and I like the choice between grilled or fried fish. Although I prefer Spencer McKenzies over this place, I will still go often since it is closer. The salsa bar is also worth visiting since there is a great selection of fresh condiments for your taco. Had lunch here today and seriously hands down they have the freakin BEST Potato (crispy) Tacos EVER!!! Yummy! They are big, fat, messy, loaded.... well you get the point... I am talkin about the tacos people... They're Great! They have really good fish tacos too, but the Potato ones are my fave... I load them up with Pico de gallo, Jacks' pink sauce and the Black chile salsa.... Pretty much anything you order is going to be great... I have tried burritos, nachos, salads,all were really good... My husband and I have been going to Snapper Jack's for years. We have been to all the locations in Ventura County and have never had a problem until today. Before we headed out for our honeymoon we had lunch, we ordered a (clean) fountain drink cup with our meal. We went to get a refill only to find a whole army ANTS in our cup. The coke we put in our cup apparently was filled with ants and they all ended up in our cup from the machine. We let the staff know and all we got was "oh sorry" and here is another cup. WHAT?! The manager didn't even speak or apologize to us. Not okay. Just a fair warning to make sure everyone checks out their soda machines before dispensing their drink. read more

I keep going back to this place to give it another shot and each time I end up regretting it. Everyone I know raves about this place and it really confuses me. I really want to like this place. The inside has a classic surf town feel and family friendly atmosphere. The food however, is incredibly disappointing. I bought a snapper burrito, it had one small piece of fish. I bought the tacos. They were literally 75% cold cheese. Gross. For 12 bucks you can get a handful of cabbage and cold cheese. The shack sauce tastes out of place on every food item. The best way I describe the food is if a white family tried to make Mexican food out of stuff they found in the fridge. read more

They put lettuce in their Burritos which I find disgusting personally, but my Husband & Father like it. Might just be a personal issue. You can always ask to leave it out. I just keep forgetting because LETTUCE DOES NOT BELONG IN A BURRITO! Hmph!! .........In my humble opinion ;) The Veggie Burrito was meh. The beans ruin it for me. If I ever decide to get this again, I'd opt out of the frijoles. [*] Horchata - always good, though they NEED NEED NEEED to fill the cups with ICE. They NEVER put enough. [*] SALSA BAR - I would never put four stars on a review with so much critiquing, but the saving grace of Snapper Jack's is their insanely awesome Salsa Bar. Their Salsa Bar is THE KING of Salsa Bars. They have different salsas inspired by different spots in Ventura County. The highlights - Jack's Secret Shack Sauce & The Coleslaw (Yes, Coleslaw. Very good service, can get busy as heck later in the night, but that's only 'cause the place is really THAT good. I've mostly only gotten their burritos there, which are grade A. And I cannot imagine life without their "Shack special sauce" which goes good with any of their entrees. The place is ho-hum Ok, but when their neighbor restaurant (Safires) was closed for whatever reason, Snapper Jack placed a sign right on the door of Safires, that said something along the lines of "this place is closed- but we're not!" Went in last nite for a late snack and it was very good, with very friendly staff. Got the taco plate with chicken, and it was overflowing, and very tasty! One of my favorite late nite snack sites! Requested that they switch the TV to the LA Rams game, and a few others agreed, so they promptly switched it over in the 4th quarter. Love this place !!! read more

Very large, clean establishment. Open Salsa bar, with lots of options. Menu isn't super overwhelming, but still had to ponder items that might be tasty. Had the shrimp burrito, and a fish taco in a hard shell. The fish was not breaded. Overall the meal was great. Very pleased with the size, and preparation of the shrimp. Nothing is more disgusting than having to clean my shrimp, aka poop scoop. Fish was fresh, and not over salted. I would recommend this joint to anyone who likes to mix seafood with the great taste of Mexican. P.S. the secret sauce lived up to its hype! read more

I love this place. I will say they have done something within the last couple months with their food which has made it much better in my opinion, and also much more consistent. I can definitely see an improvement in their quality of food. The staff is always very friendly and helpful. The manager Adam always makes sure everything is living up to expectation, and that everything has been taken care of. Their salsa bar is great. The quemada salsa is personally my favorite. I went to Snapper Jacks and it was ok. I ordered two soft chicken tacos with a side of rice and beans. I can honestly say that their tacos were good, but you're better off getting soft chicken tacos at Del Taco, they're WAY better. The beans were ok and so was the rice. Everything was kind of bland to me. The employees were nice, the environment was awesome, but when I asked if I can have a box so I can take the rest of my meal home, he handed me a dirty container! The salsa bar is what makes this taco shop unique. They have a variety of sauces to choose from. I found someone's hair in one of the salsas! Anyhow I just moved on. As for the food, its like any other taco shop but the chicken tacos were dry according to my wife. I had fish and steak taco and turned out real good. Stepping into this restaurant you feel as if you stepped into a small-time Wahoos but it seems a lot of locals enjoy it here. If you look up you can see the main office which seems a lil awkward as if the tinted window should of been just a one way mirror instead. I really wish we could give half stars. I really think Snapper Jack's should be 3.5 stars, but since we can't do half stars, the variety of salsas, the feeling of cleanliness, and the cinnamon chips make it a 4. The food is just average, but it has a good variety. I stick pretty close to home with my beans, rice, and cheese, but I like that I have the option of whole or refried beans. I also think, like with many Mexican food restaurants, the portions are huge, and that is awesome (though not for my waistline). The cinnamon sugar chips were delicious, and I got enough in one, inexpensive order to feed the entire office. There is plenty of seating, which is great, especially since I generally go at lunch, and while the people aren't super friendly, they are efficient and attentive. When I know the boys are going to Snapper Jack's, I will usually join. read more

In all honesty this place was okay. I felt it was slightly overrated on Yelp. But then again I am from the LA area and used to being able to go just about anywhere for good "Mexican" food. Like I previously stated I am from LA and so whenever I am in an unfamiliar area I depend on Yelp to give me some tasty suggestions. Since this place had the most reviews in Camarillo (besides In N Out) my boyfriend and I decided to try this place out. I took some suggestions from fellow Yelpers and got the Jack's combo with a soft grilled fish taco and a fried potato taco along with rice and refried beans. My boyfriend also ordered the Jack's combo but with two soft battered fish tacos along with Pacifico on draft. My food was okay. The grilled fish wasn't anything special and the potato taco was bland. My boyfriend's battered fish was much tastier than the grilled. Someone on here mentioned that the refried beans were "magical." I would not agree. The salsa bar was pretty cool. Lots to choose from especially for those people who do not like spicy salsa. The fruit salsa was interesting! Compared to Rubios this place is whatever. But maybe the people of Camarillo do not have one nearby. Tacos were very similar to Rubios except Rubios tacos have more flavor to them. Like I said it was an okay place to have a quick dinner but it did not live up to the hype. read more
