My family has always loved Soby's shrimp and grits sold at the TD Saturday market. Two days back my missus felt like having some and that brought us downtown as well as my review for Soby's. Ambience - Was our first visit to the actual restaurant. We managed to sit both inside as well as outside. Very hip ambience! One wall had all the awards Soby's has won over the years. We visited on a Wednesday night, and that could be why the crowd was mostly a older/business crowd. Service - We went in around 7.45 pm and requested to sit out. Bad decision, there was a chilly breeze that was pounding on us outside. So went back in and asked if they could seat us inside - No Problemo!! The hostess found a nice table for us inside and helped us transition inside. Food - I wasn't very hungry so stuck with just the she crab soup. The wife had already made up her mind with the shrimp and grits. I loved the creamy soup with a nice hint of sherry. The shrimp and grits was great too, but my wife liked the small bowl she used to get at the Saturday Market from Soby's on the Side more! Cost - Pricey. All dinner plates costed $22-$27 on average. The soup was around $ 8. But I guess that's the price you pay for the name Overall - I will definitely be back again and next time I will go with an empty stomach and sample more of what Soby's has to offer. read more

The food was very good! My palate becomes more complex when food gets more pricy. My palate was very much satisfied. The habanero sauce on my pork loin was excellent! The pork loin was done perfectly and was very tender. My only complaint might be the price and quality of the cocktails/mixed drinks. Mine was lacking alcohol... And for $9 I expect it to be pretty stiff. Atmosphere was awesome and if you get seated in the loft you can take a peek at the cooks making your food. Overall I loved it. My party and I were excited to try this place during restaurant week. We were the only diverse party and it took almost an hour for our food to come out, when the waitress came she walked right past our table trying to pass our food out to an empty table when we were the only table without food, My friend ordered tenderloin and she literally got a plate just full of ham, when we ordered desert the guy again walked right past our table which we had spoons laid out and instead he walked to the table with the people that were paying their checks. Honestly we felt stereotyped due to the lack of diversity in the restaurant from the staff and the crowd. Pretty disappointment experience and will not be returning!! read more

Incredible place. From the wine, the staff, the food and the atmosphere - it was all awesome. Our server was incredibly knowledgeable about the wine selection. He gave us a few recommendations of different varieties. He was attentive without hovering. We had a wine called Sexual Chocolate which was around $50 a bottle. But oh so good. For food - you must have the pimento cheese appetizer. We almost wanted to lick the bowl. The cheese plate was okay. Shrimp and grits was delicious - again, I wanted to lick my bowl. They had a great variety of after dinner drinks. The banana martini was easily a favorite. The waiter recommended it and did well. Apple crisp for dessert was light, good sized and heavenly. If it's a special occasion for a group, see if you can reserve the wine cellar. It's private and so great. I will go back time and time again. Worth the wait although make a reservation. Bar scene was happening too. All in all - it was one of the best meals I've had in a while! read more

We were blessed to have a generous niece and nephew who gave us a gift certificate for Sobys! We opted for the Sunday brunch since we aren't big dinner eaters. Sobys is in a beautiful old brick building on Main Street, with Valet parking. It's on two levels so if walking is an issue you should request lower seating. Reservations are highly recommended. It's a very large buffet for brunch with all the good stuff; omelets, shrimp and grits, a beef carving station, waffles, loads of veggies and bowls of fresh fruits. We ordered mimosas to start which were lovely, plus coffee, also very good. After an excellent meal we shared one sample of several desserts, top notch! We have eaten at Soby's more times than we can count. This was by far our worst experience. The food portions were cut in half of what they normally are. The eggs for the deviled eggs must have been the smallest eggs they could buy. My husband had the fried bologna sandwich and left hungry. I know covid has hit all restaurants hard, but cutting food potions and quality is not how you get people to come back. read more

I've had plenty of opportunities to experience the goodness of Soby's on my many trips to Greenville. Which by the way, has one of the more beautiful downtown's in America. First off, the different dining options within Soby's are great..inside at the bar, at a table, upstairs or out on the great patio to watch the downtown bustle. Let's start off with importante - drinks. These bartenders will pour you an honest drink and know how to make whatever you like. The food, I've had a lot. Undoubtedly my favorite restaurant...ever. They offer seasonal menus and everything is delicious. They typically have at least one vegetarian option, not including salads or soups. The place is almost always packed so it's best to make a reservation. The decor and atmosphere is friendly and fine-dining, perfect for a date night or a celebration. I have never been let down by the food or the service, with both being five stars every time. Every appetizer, main course, and especially the desserts are so magnificent and stimulating to the senses. I went for brunch which is a buffet ($19). When we arrived there were only 3 tables full but there were many, many people waiting to be seated. They were oddly very slow in seating people. There's a buffet with continental items, breakfast and lunch fare, a carving station, omelet station and a dessert buffet. There was plenty of food for all tastes whether you wanted lunch of breakfast fare. On the table was a sheet of paper and pencils for everyone to build their own Bloody Mary (from $6 depending on alcohol type) or Mimosa. You could choose either Prosecco or champagne for the Mimosa and then opt either for Orange or another fruit juice. You could also choose a fruit garnish. For the Bloodies you could choose from 4 vodkas and then from 3 mixes, one of which was a Soby's Signature. You could then pick your salt and up to 3 veg. The Signature mixer was great. I normally don't love Bloodies, but I quickly downed this one and ordered another. The buffet food was good. I liked the French Toast, though my first helping had a hair in it whether from the toast, plate or syrup I'm not sure. In addition to maple syrup there was a good orange flavored syrup with bananas in it. I also liked the various cold salads from the lunch section. The server we had was on top of things. She cleared plates often and offered more drinks. When we first sat down she told us where the various buffets were set up at and what was on them. I thought the price was quite fair for the copious offerings especially when compared to comparable fare at hotels. read more

What a perfect dining experience. It is such a pleasure to enter s restaurant with great food wonderful wait staff (Lynette) and personable and effective leadership. The building is wonderfully restored and has a great bar area, main dining and a loft area. The place does well even on a Tuesday in off season the bar, dining room And loft were all at least 85% full. I would recommend the crab cakes, short rib and she crab soup for a wonderful meal. Love this place for a fancy dinner. I had the pork wrapped in bacon. I think anything wrapped in bacon gets 200% better...I love the loft overlooking the kitchen. What a feature! This is the one restaurant I heard the most about. All good. I went last Thursday night and it was packed. The hostess' were great about getting us in. I ordered the Grilled Flat Iron Steak. Our server was very nice but didn't hear me when I changed the temperature from rare to medium rare as I said I was afraid it would come out to raw. And it did. It came with mashed potatoes that were cool. I think the steak would have been good if it had been cooked as I wanted it and the potatoes were warm. The bread that was served was not very eventful either. My companion however loved his dish. The restaurant was also very very busy and noisy. Not my style. However the building and decor were trendy and attractive. I likely wouldn't go back again. read more

The waitress told us the kitchen can split the crab cake dinner into two with more sides (green beans and mashed potatoes) for a small up charge. Totally worth it! Soby's New South Cuisine, great dine in & just as great for take out. Picked up takeout Monday night 03/30/20 and Soby's made it easy, and friendly. Call to order, pay, pull up at the sidewalk. Cajun pasta and shrimp & grits dinners, blue cheese wedge and pecan pie were all delicious. Perfectly cooked, and nicely presented in good take out containers. Servings are all very generous, and the leftovers, including shrimp & grits, reheated well 3 days later plus the salad was still fresh. The final pecan pie bites were still fabulous at day 4. Nice feel and upscale place. The food was very decent. Did not feel as authentic as it could. The service was fantastic and very attentive and the valet was convenient. We had: Fried green tomatoes - nice sauce but the tomatoes tasted like anything that's fried. WOW!! AMAZING FOOD!! Little explosions of flavor rocked my mouth. Some of the best food I have ever had. The cornbread stuffing was perfect . There were a myriad of flavors within that was amazing. The char-grilled green beans has me staying up late at night trying to re-create that perfectness. The Rib Eye was a Rib Eye. Only so much you can do with steak. I'd recommend picking something exotic and not waste the quality that Soby's can produce on something limited like steak. Friend and I went for Sunday Brunch and we both really liked the variety of offerings and especially the omelette station and Belgian waffle dessert station. The staff was attentive and courteous. Great atmosphere. The lines for food can get a little long due to the layout so of you are in a rush, this might not be the best place for you to go. As we were leaving, there was a group of 8 sitting outside on the patio and everyone had their dogs which made me like the place that much more. read more

I struggled with this review. It's between 3 and 4 stars. Sunday brunch is my only experience with this place. I've been several times. Obviously it's extremely expensive. The food quality is pretty good but not excellent. It's way crowded on Sunday. Service is a bit slow. Not horrible though. I do recommend giving it a try. You'll spend some money for sure. Writing this review pains me more than you will ever know...after being a long-time fan of Soby's Mother's Day Buffet (15 years and counting) I am saddened to inform you that the offerings on the buffet were lackluster at best this year! From the mediocre chicken and rice dish to the cold and dry multi-colored potato side including purple colored potatoes, the entrees and sides were very limited and bland to be honest. The carving station options of beef and lamb were just ok as well. I'm not certain as to why most of this year's selections were sub-par, but I am hoping it is not a sign of what's to come in the future.
