What an absolute sh*t show. We went to the farmers market early and decided to have breakfast. Our server was a bright spot - he was on top of coffee refills and stopped by often, but he couldn't make up for breakfast taking over 40 minutes to arrive (might have been closer to 50 minutes). When it finally arrived it was NOT worth the wait. My eggs Benedict was a poor excuse for the dish. The egg was so overcooked the yolk was hard boiled. It was obviously cooked in vinegar water and the whites tasted like vinegar. The hollandaise had too much butter and was breaking. The muffin was not toasted and managed to be both chewy and soggy at the same time. The grits were actually good. My mom said her quiche tasted like it was bought frozen and it was also overcooked. They didn't charge us for the food (before we even had a chance to give feedback), but it was a waste of time and we left hungry. read more

Had breakfast here this morning. I ordered the Classic Benedict with bacon and grits. It took a while for it to come it and when it did the eggs were poached hard, grits cold and no bacon and the hollandaise sauce had too much vinegar. The server did make it right, it did take quite a while to come out again but this time it was done perfectly. The server was awesome and was very apologetic. The roasted beet and arugula salad, is good, except the beets are not roasted, they are boiled. If they had been roasted, the salad would've been amazing. The chef told my server it was a misprint on the menu. I would encourage them to consider roasting them for real, because it makes them so much better. The Spoonbread Restaurant is located in the Westin Pointsett hotel. I dined here for breakfast twice. I could order off the menu or do the buffet because of my Platinum level with the hotel. The restaurant is open for lunch as well and was named after a cornmeal dish. I liked the historic feel to the restaurant with the hand tiled floors and the light fixtures, high ceilings and large windows. The service was very friendly and helpful. On both days they made sure I had everything I needed. When I struggled to open the jam some was brought from the buffet. I'm not a fan of buffets so ordered from the menu both times. The first day I had the Spoonbread breakfast which for me was two eggs; bacon; fruit; and an English muffin. It was substantial. The next day I went with the waffles with fruit compote and was given a side of bacon as well. It came with fruit and syrup so I did half with each topping. It was less substantial than the previous day but I had a brunch to head to later so wanted less. read more

My husband and I stopped by one afternoon while attending a dessert tour. This was our first stop, and one of my favorites! It's hard not to love a decadent chocolate dessert. 6/10 The context for this review is that I've been here for breakfast only several times, with that breakfast being fully comped as part of having platinum elite status or higher with the Marriott hotel this restaurant is located in. The service here is good, not great. The ambience is a bit more upscale. At around 7am-8-am, the restaurant was mostly empty. A buffet is offered as one of the options, but I didn't see anyone order it. Coffee and juice are offered once you sit down. The coffee is okay though I was never offered a refill while dining so am not sure if it's one cup and done or if you can request more. On a previous stay a few years ago, I think I was offered additional coffee, though I can't remember for sure. Here are my thoughts on a few of their menu items: Waffles with Pecans - This came with whipped cream, maple syrup, and butter. The waffles were fine, though they look like they came out of a waffle iron you'd find in at a self-serve free breakfast at a hotel. It was cooked as such too as there was some odd burns/charring on the bottom of the waffle which was a bit puzzling. The whipped cream was thick, so at least this didn't come from a can. Spoonbread Breakfast - this was fine, though unmemorable. For what would have been the cost, not the most food. Grits desperately needed more flavor - salt, cheese, butter, something. Seared Salmon - Salmon had a nice sear, but ever so slightly underdone, though still perfectly edible. Quiche - not bad, probably the best thing I had here. Overall, given the monetary cost and opportunity cost of eating here, I don't really think this is worth it. You're in downtown Greenville - you can do better elsewhere. If, however, you're eating here for free through the hotel then sure, it's a decent breakfast and better than a typical cheap hotel breakfast. read more

A group of ladies and I enjoyed High Tea service at Spoonbread in memory of a friend that had passed away. We celebrated her life and her birthday in a way she really would have enjoyed. The service was always on time and the food was simply delicious. My favorite item was lemon poppy seed scones. Everything was really very delightful. I don't know what happen to this once wonderful restaurant but it has been in decline for a while and the Westin Poinsett which the restaurant is in it in the same decline. So sad. The salad had roasted tomatoes. I typically don't like "hotel food," and this blew me away. Simple and scrumptious! This is an often overlooked restaurant and it's located inside the Westin Poinsett Hotel downtown. It reminds me of restaurants in the 60s with white tablecloths, beautiful decor, and relaxing atmosphere. The waitstaff is pleasant and attentive. The food is properly prepared and very delicious! I especially like the breakfast dishes and also the Reuben sandwich. This place is too well-kept of a secret. Even though I work downtown, I usually forget about Spoonbread, but the half-dozen times I've been here since the renovated Westin Poinsett opened have all been good memories. The best thing Spoonbread has going for it? It's atmosphere, which is one of the best in Greenville. Classy, elegant, 25-foot coffered ceilings, tufted booth cushions, a sophisticated blend of classical and jazz, and Westin-level attention to table service. The food has always been good here. Not amazing, but predictably good. Sometimes, after all, that's what you want. I just finished a lunchtime chicken BLT which I would describe as equally good (& much healthier) than Tupelo's, with a hearts of palm salad (does anyone else even serve that in Greenville?). The price? $8.64 before tip. The service is good, friendly and--while it's not nearly the best in Greenville, you can understand why. Nobody comes here! In my judgment, this should be on most people's shortlist as a great downtown location for a business lunch, and on a long list of downtown restaurants worth visiting for dinner. Here's hoping this review creates at least a little more interest. In the meanwhile, I for one will be back. read more

We love this restaurant tucked away in the Westin Poinsett with the exception of the mean-spirited hostess, Mary. (She seems to lord of over the waitstaff and persecuted our favorite waitress, Sylvia, by making us wait over an hour to get a table in her station and then crossing our names off the list altogether forcing us to call a manager for help). The restaurant is charmingly appointed with lovely metal ceilings and ornately tiled floors. The white tablecloths and green walls evoke an old world charm. Sylvia (our favorite waitress) is the epitome of graciousness. Her bubbly personality and zest for life are both welcoming and contagious. The chef (Curtis Wolfe) is amazing and took special care to ensure that we were protected from gluten cross-contamination. My husband and I stayed overnight recently for a weekend getaway and are local to the Greenville area. The hotel stay was lovely. The rooms hold their vintage yet modern vibe. The bed was comfy, the views so pretty. We had never eaten at Spoonbread and thought it would be nice to simply go downstairs and grab a bite after a restful night. We have many fave breakfast spots in Greenville, so taking this risk seemed a good bet. Wow, we were let down! We had made a 9:30 reservation to be safe. Because of COVID restrictions, there were understandable changes that we were sensitive to. We barely entered the restaurant from the lobby and the hostess loudly told us to "just wait a minute". We patiently stayed back, waiting our turn. The reservation was useless and never asked about. We were seated a few minutes later (no sweat!) and the atmosphere was very cold. The hostess and server were not friendly, almost bordering on sarcastic. We ordered extremely basic food that was quite pricy. My husbands omelet (according to him) was not great. I got a croissant with my "continental breakfast " that was literally the size of a silver dollar (right?!) and hard as a rock. Coffee was only refilled once. We then waited over 15 minutes for our check of $40 for a VERY basic meal. I'm not sure how much the COVID scenario has changed their systems, but I still think a basic pleasant attitude could go a long way. For breakfast, I'd suggest choosing another great Greenville spot. read more

Spoonbread is the breakfast, lunch, and Sunday brunch restaurant at the Westin-Poinsett. The menu for each meal service is difficult to describe correctly. Each meal service offers choices at the modest end of the price scale for those in a hurry or not wanting a big meal (lot of food). However, there are also choices that are somewhat creative and upscale for those wanting something for a more sophisticated palate. The Sunday brunches are plentiful and a wonderful variety... gourmet items often that surprise, like walking in and seeing an appetizer spread that includes seared tuna thinly sliced. Luckily, there are so many great temptations and selections that no one appeared to be "hovering" over the tuna! (*smile*) The hotel also does wonderful buffets for holidays... Thanksgiving and Christmas. Two seating periods ... the early midday buffet menu is not the same as the evening menu which offers dinner entrée selections, at least 4 choices (heavier meals). Midday the desserts are a variety of bite-sized morsels, and evening desserts are typical dessert servings. We have gone to the Westin Poinsett several times in recent years for our holiday dinner... it is conveniently close and a better offering than some other possible choices in that area or closer to home. read more
