WOW! What an absolutely great place! I've been multiple times and each time I feel like I'm getting special treatment. The food is amazing and the staff is even better. I love taking guests here because I know the experience will always be great. Went to their Social Hour (M-F 5-6) to get a little taste of the place. Interior was fun. Lots of larger community tables to encourage their namesake Drinks. $7 cocktails. Had the Gimlet (gin, lime juice) which was delicious, crisp and clean. Food. Most of the food items were $7 as well. Shared the Brussels sprouts and Shishito peppers with one other person and we had plenty of leftovers. Definitely a place to come with a larger group. Roasted Brussel Sprouts. I can't get over how delicious these were. The honey makes them sweet, but the added ham and hazelnut gives the dish a crush and savory taste. With some crispy curls of carrots on the top, these are surely the fanciest Brussels I've seen. Shishito peppers were a delicious alternative to fries. They were a little more oily than I would've liked. But with the spicy thai chili oil and garlic oil, it packed a flavor and punch way more tasty than fries. Downsides. Little to no parking (valet is offered). Regular dishes are a tad pricier than most. I'd highly recommend meeting up with friends for their Social Hour. read more

What an amazing experienced coupled by great food and an amazing waiter. Our waiter, Juan Gabriel, was knowledgeable of the menu, their offerings, and had several recommendations. I'm 8 months pregnant and he immediately ordered me a special drink since I was the only one in my party not having an alcoholic beverage. The Brussels sprouts were so flavorful and perfectly cooked. The grilled octopus was flavorful. And the guacamole with chicharones were so good! I had the Nashville chicken sandwich and only wish I had extra room to have another. TLDR: Fantastic atmosphere, friendly staff, hit-or-miss food that may feel overpriced. Ask them to "skip the ice" on the iced coffee, which is already cold. Major points in their favor: They allow small pets on the patio, provided the pets are well behaved. I don't know if this is the official policy but we've brought our small dog a couple of times, and they were fine with it. Can't beat the atmosphere: this is the definition of a hipster gastropub, for better or worse. If you want to discuss nitrogen cold brewed coffee in a large room with wood paneling and TVs playing movies or sports, this is your reliable 5-star hangout. If you want some casual, recognizable comfort food in a quiet environment, maybe go to Norm's instead. That's not a knock on either Norms or Social, they're just for different tastes. Food is hit or miss. Some dishes are excellent, a handful feel 'phoned in.' The menu items are creative, but you may find yourself staring at the check thinking "did I just pay $12 for 2 eggs and some garnishes?" The fancy nitro-cooled coffee drinks are delightful, but the default serving method is a cup full of ice with very little liquid filling the cracks. However, whenever I've asked them to skip the ice, they've been happy to do so. Staff is very courteous and universally chill. Never saw them act unprofessionally, even when some guests were impolite. Service can be fast or slow. We've gone 6 times: 4 have been fast (when few people were there), 2 were slow (when it was packed). On one of the slow visits, one dish was forgotten entirely, but the staff was quick to fix this when we brought it up. I get the feeling they don't have enough staff to keep up with demand. Moreso than other restaurants, please 'read the room' when you consider your tip: if your waitress was racing around to cover half the restaurant by herself, slow service was probably not her fault. read more

Love the place and have been buying food and drinks to go throughout the pandemic. About 3 weeks ago I was disappointed to see both employees (that I could see) were not wearing masks, including the one who approached me gave me my to go order. They had bandana's, but they were around their necks only. I had a mask on, and would've expected they do the same. Our waitress was very nice and personable, she was the only good part about our experience (hence the two stars). 1. Our drinks came after our food... 2. I ordered eggs poached medium - it came out and the whites were runny so I had to send them back (I just cant do runny egg whites) - by the time they came back out, all my food was done and I didn't even want them. 3. I came to this place again as restaurants are opening back up for dining because I wanted to give it another try. There was no line on a Saturday morning and the girl at the front was super accommodating. We sat down on the outside patio where the tables were spaced (as well as the tables inside). This time, I tried the Chilaquiles I've heard so much about and they didn't disappoint. The chips were still super crunchy when they got out and the egg on top was great. I don't know if it's just that I really like eggs but I would've thrown another one on top because the serving size was pretty big. The best part about this breakfast item here - the steak. I ordered medium rare (is there another way to order steak?), and medium rare I was served. The steak was super juicy and cooked to perfection. I'm really glad I stopped by again to give this place another go. Based off all the other reviews I think my last visit was just a fluke. Fun and hip new spot in Costa Mesa! It's a very warm and casual speakeasy kinda place. I didn't make reservations and got seated outside but it wasn't too chilly this last Friday night. Unfortunately since I am not eating any meat on Fridays until Easter I was a bit limited on what I could try. I really wanted to try the foie gras but that may have to wait until next time. Hamachi - Beautiful dish! Very delicate and colorful. The Hamachi is very fresh but I felt even with the sauces it was very bland and flavorless. Crab Toast - My favorite item here. Very tasty and crispy exterior. The arugula really adds a nice texture and freshness to the dish. Perfectly seasoned. Brussels Sprouts - I love Brussels sprouts! Very crispy texture and the hazelnut adds a nice nutty flavor to it. The honey sauce pairs wonderfully with everything however I think they could've put a little but less. The honey becomes very sweet and starts to make everything soggy. Wild Mushrooms - This dish looked so tasty on the yelp pictures I just HAD to order. To my disappointment the dish was very bland and the grits were undercooked. No flavor at all to this dish or texture. I wish the jus would've added a lot of flavor.. Charbroiled oysters - Nothing like charbroiled oysters from the South I'll tell ya. Too much fried onion on top that's all you taste in the whole dish. I LOVE bone marrow but I didn't really taste any bone marrow butter in this dish. Believe me when I say I'm a huge fan of oysters but this dish was the biggest disappointment. Pineapple Buttercake - Very sweet but oh so yummy. The presentation of this dish is beautiful with the candied net on top of the cake. You can't really taste the ginger in this dish but I think it's good without it. Wish I could have tried the other dishes with meat but I'm almost hesitant to come back from the lack of flavor all the dishes had. Sad...Maybe just come for drinks here. read more

I can't wait to go back! They seem to have a good system going, the staff knows what they are doing, and the atmosphere is awesome. At first I was annoyed because they quoted an hour for a table, but it turned out to be more like 30 so it wasn't too bad. I also liked that they text you when your table is ready. I loved the craft cocktails and the inventive plates. The food is designed as small plates to share, which worked out great for a party of 4. We were celebrating my fiancé's bday, which ended with a bone marrow whisky shot. Our server was on point and made great suggestions. The food and drinks both came out quickly. Oh no what happened?? I brought 8 friends to dinner here because I couldn't stop raving about the food, but since my visit almost 2 years ago I'm sad to say myself and all 8 of my guests will not be returning. First and foremost there used to be lots of small plates to choose from so that you could share your meals, and the prices were very reasonable. now everything is super expensive and the portions are very tiny. I believe there are only a couple of reasonably priced small plates to share now. I asked the manager about all this and he agreed that they had changed their menu away from small plates. Boo!! The pasta in my beef cheek dish was so over cooked the noodles were practically disintegrated; my friend ordered crab and avocado toast, she said there wasn't a piece of crab to be found. I'm not going to go on... but all the dishes were disappointing. The two stars are for the spectacular cocktails and the one dish that we all agreed was great, which was one of the small plates - the brussel sprouts. read more

So let me start with the fact that I'm from Washington state so I know apples. No joke I grew up with quite a few apple trees on my property. This is not your ordinary apple tini. this tastes like my grandma walked out side grabbed a fresh apple, thru it in our blender (after roasting it to primeness in the oven) and blended it with some potato vodka. A++. We got the shashimo peppers and ceviche. It was good, definitely didn't disappoint. Great add on to our cocktails, the drinks tho, they're great. Come for that. I've been coming to this place for a while now and I can say nothing but amazing things!! The main reason I really started going more was because of my good friend Jamie Vedder who is my go to for the best places to eat/drink and fun places to go in OC. She has a huge network and really knows how to draw in a crowd. She has introduced me to the owners and they are so sweet and always working there, since they are always packed! The food is amazing, atmosphere is great and the drinks are all handcrafted by amazing mixologist. I love their margaritas - they are naturally skinny because they use fresh juice and agave. I have been to many many birthdays here too. Great place to throw parties and they own this adorable contemporary little room next door that you can throw private parties as well . Literally, the moment after I got my drink which was less than 5 minutes they had our table ready. The food was amazing. The fries with the dipping sauce wow amazing!!!!! This is a really cool atmosphere. Great place to go for a date or just with friends if you're up for something a little fancier because it's on the pricey side. I just had an appetizer and dessert because I wasn't super hungry. The pork belly dog was delicious. I got the horchata donuts with ice cream. They give you the tiniest scoop of ice cream which wasn't enough because they give you about 6 mini donuts. I thought it was good but the dessert didn't wow me. My friends all got a burger. And it looked delicious. They thought it was okay because it was cooked medium well and they like medium rare. I think I would've enjoyed the burger because I don't like pink in my meat. I definitely would go back! Parking kind of sucks here btw. They have valet but not sure how much that is. read more
