Came in here after working up an appetite Pokemon hunting. They are currently in a soft opening with the official grand opening coming soon. This review is strictly based on the beef fajita nachos as I am not a drinker. Although I will say for a soft opening with no advertising to speak of it was quite crowded and everyone appeared to be having a good time. They do have 1 TV with sports on and some sort of video game thing. There are tables to sit at as well as the bar. The nachos were fully loaded with beans, lettuce, beef fajita, jalapeños, sour cream, and a generous amount of guacamole. They did say they will have a full menu in the future with burritos, fajitas, tacos, etc. Cool atmosphere, decent food, definitely worth checking out if you're looking for a place to hang out. read more

I want to give a huge shout out to Geno and his crew! Ya'll pulled it together for my girlfriends birthday dinner last minute! I cant thank you enough for all you guys did! Back story, called wednesday 10/18 at 5:00pm and asked to make a reservation. Was informed they did not take reservations and would put me down for a larger party.... said ok and rolled with it. Showed up friday about 6:30pm to be there early to make sure everything was passed along and low and behold No one had a clue about us coming... Geno came to us immediately and apologized profusely but said and did all he could to make it right! He did just that! His staff did a great job for being a two woman show maintaining the entire patio area! Food was great! Drinks were good! Geno and staff... GREAT JOB!!! What a delightful restaurant! Here, there is great food, great service, fun live music, and a small town community vibe. We came for some food and margaritas, and the experience overall was amazing. The waitress was extremely personable, patient, and accommodating to our party of 10. It didn't seem as if you could go wrong with any dish on the menu. The best part were the enchiladas in terms of food. The prickly pear margarita was my personal favorite drink of the few I tried. The live music was a local country band that seemed to have recognized many people in the crowd, so it was awesome seeing the community aspect. Service was very good here, the waitress was friendly and funny. When you walk in though it felt a little weird, all the employees were by the bar and no "hey welcome to alcove" "have a seat wherever you'd like" nada like that. No biggie. After our waitress greeted us it was cool from there. I had the beef enchiladas with creamy jalapeno sauce. Something tasted sour, I think it was the sauce. The refried beans were your standard canned beans, rice was good. This review might seem sorta meh, but that's the same vibe on the food and place that I have. Giving 2 stars because food was good and at a good price. Service was some of the worst I have ever received in my 43 years of life. Didn't receive utensils until after the bus boy brought us our meal which was wrong. Needed refills that my son ended up having to drink my water. I asked for the same margarita that my husband had, came in a different glass, it was a different color, it had no salt. Went in by accident since another location was packed. Glad we did. John, our server, was on point. He was also the bartender but never stopped moving. Even if he was the one person there, he never failed to amaze us. Salsa was tasty. John kept the chips and salsa flowing. Water and soda were never empty, he was always refilling. Molcajete fajitas were good. (They have nopales in them so if you are not a fan, would ask without.) Wish we had taken a picture because they sat in their own juices while in the molcajete. I'd never seen them served that way. Also had a quesadilla with fajita that was tasty. Street corn was roasted and a good portion for the price. Also had a barbacoa taco (which I would describe average.) The price was $36- boy we have not had an expensive meal like that before and we still have lots of leftovers. After reading some reviews I guess I set my expectations a tad high. Their food is definitely not bad or of poor quality but just A-OK. Service for a late Monday afternoon lunch was very good and their all day Monday HH is a bonus. They do have additional specials throughout the week as well. And although we were so bummed when it closed, we returned for good drinks and food as it changed intothe Alcove Cantina - as well as group HH therapy. Guys, last week I was served by the one of the rudest servers I have seen outside of sullen NY or Paris. Small blond woman, she was snarly to our group and almost hit my friend's head off when she tried to get her attention. We're not an unruly group of ladies - in our '50s - but she was clearly unhappy at being bothered and lulled our good mood as well as upset the birthday girl. I like it here. The fiancee and I have been here a few times to enjoy the live music. I recently went into the club in the back (USMC Birthday) and had to kick myself because I didn't realize how fun it was in there. The bartenders in the clubhouse are cooler than the ones that typically work outside on Fridays. We have tried a couple things from the menu but decided that the food is not a strong point here. Popped in here on Sunday to check out something local. Was pleasantly surprised! Interior simple but clean and cool. I got a house Margarita and specified not too sweet. It came out darn near perfect (kudos to bartender). I just ordered one Barbacoa taco on corn. It was very good Barbacoa (and I love Barbacoa). Chef also customized the already tasty green sauce to make more spicy. Awesome!. Bathrooms clean too! Come check this place out in Downtown Round Rock. I'll be back!! read more

What is an American cantina? I wondered, as I walked in here. Is the answer an uninspired restaurant? I guess so. A couple of friends and I came here on a Friday night. First clue that this place isn't that great is that the patio wasn't even that busy on a gorgeous Friday. We ordered drinks and they took a good twenty minutes to show up. Our waitress seemed really distracted. We ordered chips and guac that didn't come with salsa. Showed up maybe five minutes before our meals. I got the fajita plate and it was just okay. Honestly, this place made me wish we had gone to Chuy's! One of my friends was in a rush to leave so asked for the check right away and some to go boxes. Well, we got the check and no boxes. I know Texas heat is awful, but it was hotter in the restaurant than out. I decided to ignore that and order a margarita for happy hour which was AMAZING! I also wanted to point out that our waitress was super sweet as well! Next we had the queso especial and salsa which were small, but really great! Then came the food... I ordered the southwest Caesar and found a hair... which I know happens and I just didn't eat that side of the salad, but that combined with the other food, I was left disappointed. Bar food is always hit or miss and can be a scary gamble for the "I'm so hungry I'm dying" patron but "I also really need a cold adult beverage". Rest assured you will be fed here and you're going to enjoy it too. They have a nice happy hour and small but plentiful menu. Don't be scared of the smaller menu, I think it's brilliant for a place to accept the surrounding plethora of restaurants and go for what they know they can do well. You'll find Tex Mex here, now it ain't Chuy's so don't go expecting that. BUT their carne guisada? ON POINT. It's 100% legit. I've come to really like this place for the various environments you get traveling from the front to the outside to the back room. Food and drinks are available in all areas. Chicken nachos had about 3 pieces of chicken in the entire order. This place had potential and based on the other reviews we gave it a shot. I went yesterday for the first time- we were a little confused when we walked in because there are no signs saying to seat yourself/wait for a host but yet there was nowhere available for 3 people to sit. So after standing there for a few minutes looking confused, we wandered to the back to see if there was outdoor seating (there was). I ordered a margarita and split the molcajete dish with a friend. My margarita was nice and strong and the food was delicious. The service on the other hand was terrible- from not being greeted throughout the entire night. Went here with ny husband the night before he deployed. He wanted Mexican and to bar hop so we decided to drive to Round Rock to check out Alcove Cantina. I ordered the taquitos and my husband ordered the enchiladas. Let me tell you how happy my husband was! He loved the food and we regretted not coming sooner. Before writing my review I looked to see if anyone had the same experience and wow good to know it wasn't just me! Ordered food and two drinks a water and sweet tea. We sat there waiting for the food with no drinks. Food came out and I asked for our drinks. My sisters food came out wrong but she still liked it. Our drinks weren't refilled until I asked for the check which is a weird time to refill them because we are ready to go. I asked for the check and 40 minutes go by. I've always walked by this place but never had the chance to go in... it always looked so cool.I went on a Sunday night with my partner and another couple. it was pretty empty and low-key. I was surprised they had a DJ, which was playing great music. The bartender/server did a great job with not forgetting about checking on us and getting everything in a timely manner. Their signature drink - Alcove Premium Margarita, was INCREDIBLE! not too sweet and it was very smooth to drink. I ended up just getting a bunch of apps and chicken tamales... all of the food was really scrumptious. My only complaint is that there was only one size for the queso and for 4 people to split a "cup" of queso for $6.50 is a bit steep. We ended up ordering two because the cup wasn't enough and I personally think $13 for what would have been a "large" amount is way too much. Overall, the atmosphere and food are excellent.
