You must come eat here! I am a total foodie & tonight was one of the very best meals I've ever had in Chico (born & raised local). The ambiance is unique & inviting. The service impeccable. Sofi is very helpful in helping you choose your dishes if you're unfamiliar with the food. I didn't take any pictures but we had the tandoori chicken (call & order ahead if you're strapped for time - it takes 35 min to cook) which came with grilled veggies & saffron rice, & the boneless lamb curry with saffron rice & samosas for an appetizer. It all comes with the most delicious sauces on the side - plum & a spicy mint sauce. And there was a yummy cucumber salad too (not sure which meal it came with). OUTSTANDING! The service and ambiance was okay. I think the food was not good and really tainted the whole visit to Chico. The channa chat was mostly rajma and it didn't have much flavor besides the the sauce they use over it (there's no chaat seasonings at all in it). The fish pakora doesn't seem authentic (the batter wasn't crispy or flavored like it could have been) and the chicken tandoori smelled/tasted like it was on the verge of becoming spoiled (had to throw out the rest of it the next day cause it was spoiled and i could barely stomach it the day before). This place is amazingly cute inside! I love that it's not your basic restaurant look. It's almost like I've been invited into their home to share a meal. Great service, even provided my hubby a pair of readers for the menu (the description is a bit small, but helpful). We ordered the samosas, chicken tikka, and malai boti. And naan, RawIt's, and the kacumber salad. While we were waiting, they brought us a snack of spiced crispy bits, nuts, and dried fruit. The flavor is unlike what one would expect from the local Indian restaurants. The Tikka was spicy, but in the best way. I loved the malai boti. The only thing that was slightly disappointing was the kacumber salad. I feel like it was missing it's tangy dressing. Will definitely come back to try more of the menu. read more

Good food, kind waiter, great place Food: Mango Lassi: slightly thick mango flavor drink. Usually thick drinks are hard to suck but this one was little difficult but still easy enough to suck. Its an unfamiliar thickness to me, between liquid and thick. Also a little too sweet for me. But still good. Also off topic, they gave me a straw with another straw inside. That red straw in the pic, theres a green straw inside that red straw. Anyways good presentstion too, very pretty Lamb Biryani: good rice, good tomato, raw onions, the pic looks like a mountain of rice but its more like just mostly lamb and just barely covered with rice. Its bone in, I got some ribs of the lamb. The meat tasted like perfectly braised beef. Tastes amazing. Some cuts were more tasteless but some other cuts were so tasty and tender The yoghurt, I've been eating the rice and lamb by itself but turns out I was supposed to mix the yoghurt in before eating. I thought there was only chicken and goat and even when served, the waiter said "goat" *pause* "Biryani". The waiter asked me if my bike was locked cause it was outside the door, I said no, she offered to take the bike in to keep it safe, that was nice. Unique style of restaurant where they have comfy chairs and tables and an inviting atmosphere decorations. Where to begin?! You MUST visit Sofi'z! We spent the weekend checking out Butte College and Chico State with our kids (17, 15, and 5). I'd read the reviews and love Pakistani food, so I knew that at some point we had to eat there. Somehow, we ended up celebrating our son's "early birthday" and he now has a "pet bird." Lol! We had nothing but smiles and laughter from our experience today... and I haven't even mentioned the food! My. Goodness. We told our daughter that she has to choose Chico just so we have an excuse to go back! Everything was so fresh and distinct in flavor. For our mains, we got butter chicken and chicken tikka masala. I don't know how many times I've ordered that combination at other restaurants and they come out tasting very similar. NOT the case at Sofi'z! They both were mouthwateringly delicious and had their own flavor, as if should be! The stuffed paradha and naan had my teens bartering to decide who got the last of it. For starters, we had samosas (best I've ever had) and Chana chaat with mint sauce (could eat it all day). I have had East Indian butter chicken before, but this butter chicken probably had the best flavor profile that I have ever tasted. The sauce was so delicious and freshly prepared, and the chicken literally melted in your mouth. My partner ordered the chicken tikka masala and had a similar experience. The garlic naan was amazingly fresh and tender. The Chai Tea was wonderful and served with this delicious little traditional sweet biscuit.
