Last night we had a festive dinner for our son-in-law's birthday (party of seven adults) at the magical Sofi'z Kitchen & Bar. It was simply wonderful. The portions are more than enough, with the price being very fair for the meal. If you can save room you have to try the "not actual names of dish" rice pudding and sugar syrup doughnut holes. Great service, even provided my hubby a pair of readers for the menu (the description is a bit small, but helpful). We ordered the samosas, chicken tikka, and malai boti. And naan, RawIt's, and the kacumber salad. While we were waiting, they brought us a snack of spiced crispy bits, nuts, and dried fruit. The flavor is unlike what one would expect from the local Indian restaurants. The Tikka was spicy, but in the best way. I loved the malai boti. Good food, kind waiter, great place Food: Mango Lassi: slightly thick mango flavor drink. Usually thick drinks are hard to suck but this one was little difficult but still easy enough to suck. That red straw in the pic, theres a green straw inside that red straw. Its bone in, I got some ribs of the lamb. The meat tasted like perfectly braised beef. Tastes amazing. Some cuts were more tasteless but some other cuts were so tasty and tender The yoghurt, I've been eating the rice and lamb by itself but turns out I was supposed to mix the yoghurt in before eating. I want to like it more but its like a sour yoghurt not for me, but the food was still good that even with yoghurt it was still good. Ok time to say the thing, I ordered goat Biryani. I thought there was only chicken and goat and even when served, the waiter said "goat" *pause* "Biryani". I thought it was weird she paused but I thought it was just cause I said I never tried goat and wanted to try it. But maybe its cause its lamb and she realized right as she said goat but commited. The waiter asked me if my bike was locked cause it was outside the door, I said no, she offered to take the bike in to keep it safe, that was nice. Unique style of restaurant where they have comfy chairs and tables and an inviting atmosphere decorations. Where to begin?! You MUST visit Sofi'z! We spent the weekend checking out Butte College and Chico State with our kids (17, 15, and 5). I'd read the reviews and love Pakistani food, so I knew that at some point we had to eat there. Our 5-year- old had been very... umm... 5 all day, so I was a bit nervous taking him to a sit down after the long weekend of waking and looking at buildings. From the minute we walked in, Sofi was warm and welcoming as if we were regulars. She quickly befriended our little one and from there, the entire experience became one we'll never forget. Somehow, we ended up celebrating our son's "early birthday" and he now has a "pet bird." Lol! We had nothing but smiles and laughter from our experience today... and I haven't even mentioned the food! My. Goodness. We told our daughter that she has to choose Chico just so we have an excuse to go back! Everything was so fresh and distinct in flavor. For our mains, we got butter chicken and chicken tikka masala. I don't know how many times I've ordered that combination at other restaurants and they come out tasting very similar. NOT the case at Sofi'z! They both were mouthwateringly delicious and had their own flavor, as if should be! The stuffed paradha and naan had my teens bartering to decide who got the last of it. For starters, we had samosas (best I've ever had) and Chana chaat with mint sauce (could eat it all day). I have had East Indian butter chicken before, but this butter chicken probably had the best flavor profile that I have ever tasted. The sauce was so delicious and freshly prepared, and the chicken literally melted in your mouth. My partner ordered the chicken tikka masala and had a similar experience. The garlic naan was amazingly fresh and tender. The Chai Tea was wonderful and served with this delicious little traditional sweet biscuit. I am an Indian and normally don't pick Indian/Pakistani restaurants to eat at. Sofia's service was wonderful and food was absolutely delicious. We ordered the nargisi kofta curry, chicken tandoori, plain naan and garlic naan and everything was great. Not too spicy- just perfect. What an absolutely fabulous experience! We were visiting our daughter and her boyfriend for the weekend, and they were showing off the downtown area. My British husband was in the mood for a spicy lentil dish and my daughter had been wanting to try Sofi's for a while so we figured we'd order some food and take it home to eat. Nope. We walked in, and the smell was so absolutely divine that when Sofi herself told us to have a seat toward the back to look over the menu, we decided to eat in. Best. Decision. Ever. Sofi was kind and warm and so very welcoming. When we explained that I love the cuisine but can't handle heat anymore, she offered so many suggestions to help accommodate that. Everyone ordered something different - chicken palak paneer, malai boti, butter chicken, yogurt chicken (mine), and my husband's lentil/goat dish (we can't remember the name of it). Everything was absolutely delicious. I could not stop stealing bites from everybody else's dishes. We ordered rice for everyone, but for us, it was way too much. Incredibly generous portions. We ended up having two bags of food to bring home because we couldn't eat it all. Plus, Sofi had suggested the chana chaat (a bean salad starter) that had me going in for more and more.
