Hands down the best Mediterranean food spot on the peninsula! I'm very happy to have discovered this hole in the wall, unassuming restaurant in South City. I've been here twice now and I have to say both times I ordered the Lamb Shank and the Musakhan (roasted chicken over flatbread) and these were both served piping hot with the meat so tender and flavorful. I've also tried their Shawarma Chicken Flatbread and Mixed Grill platter. The flatbread was really delicious and the mixed platter was good for variety for large groups but I prefer the Lamb Shank and Musakhan the most! On this most recent visit, my party of 5 was stuffed to the brim from all the food we ordered, but I managed to convince my group to order a dessert to try. We ordered the Kunafa and the server even surprised us with a large complimentary pot of Turkish tea! It was a perfect dessert to finish off the meal and a nice warm treat on a cold, rainy day. 10/10 recommend! read more

There preparation are good and service is fine. Picture doesn't do the justice, since food is half eaten. Mousakhan is delicious. We didn't like there falafel, it's two small and very small amount in plate. Wrap was bit dry. They should work on their sauces. Hot sauce is too salty and garlic sauce is just ok. As someone who has eaten authentic Middle Eastern food for most of my life, this was hands down one of the worst shawarmas I've ever had. The "Halal Chicken Shawarma" was a complete disappointment (pan-fried!) chicken instead of the traditional spit-roasted method, a bland and unappetizing taste, and to top it off...... CUCUMBERS in the shawarma. You never put cucumbers in shawarma. Ever. The aftertaste lingered in my mouth for hours, to the point I had to chew gum and eat ice cream just to get rid of it. I love Yelp Elite Week and trying new local restaurants. Sofra Grill was east to find and I was able to park right out front! Also neighborhood parking and a parking lot close by, if the street gets too crowded. The restaurant is clean and cute! I was greeted right away, upon entering. Love the fresh flowers on each table. I asked the cashier for his recommendation and he suggested the steak or kofte wrap. So I decided to get both! Everything was made fresh for me. I waited about 10 mins for my to-go order. The wraps were amazing!! My husband and I split them. The second wrap coat about $13, which is a pretty good price for the wrap size and protein. The kofte was really good! There were bits that were a little crisy, which I loved. Fresh veggies in each wrap were also a very nice touch. The steak was my fave!! Seasoned to perfection. Also really appreciated the white sauce on the side. I had a wonderful experience at Sofra Grill!! This place is a must try and we will definitely be regulars here. 10/10 recommend. read more

So I saw this new place pop up and my brother is a massive Mediterranean food fan. I know this falls under more Turkish, but a lot of similarities in the food for sure. Food looked great, sent him a link, and the next day he said lets go check it out. Walked in and was surprised to see the location. I go to Los Cuates every once in awhile and it's only a couple places down. I don't remember walking by it in the past. Anyways, greeted when we walked in and sat down quickly. Wasn't quite sure what to get since I have looked over the menu and a ton of pictures, but a lot of it looked great making it hard to decide. I decided to just go with whatever the server recommended, which was the tenderloin skewers and lamb shank, so I went with the lamb shank. We also ordered one of the breads as well. The lamb shank comes with a salad. Nice and fresh, good flavors, but the best thing on it, was the grilled olive, but unfortunately only one of those in it. The lamb shank itself comes with a pastry cover which needs to be cut away, when it does, man is that thing coming out with a ton of steam. After cutting it away they break apart the shank pretty easily with a fork looking so tender. The lamb shank reminded me to the one from Mazra which is great, has a lot of flavor and super tender. The rice was really fluffy and soft too. It was a fairly big portion and as someone who can put away a lot of food, I wasn't able to finish it. The bread itself was pretty good, but I quickly regretted not just getting the pizza version. I didn't realize it would be pretty much the same dough and shape, just without the extra stuff on top. Considering it is only $2-3 more for the fully loaded ones, i would go that route next time. Can't wait to go back read more

The presentation alone with the shank was phenomenal, it was a show! Cutting open the bread to find the lamb shank over rice.... Chefs kiss! Tremendous surprise in an unassuming spot: I just enjoyed a great Mediterranean surprise in a very unassuming hidden location. The food was tasty, and the amount was overflowing.
