Located in an unlikely spot on 3rd street in a primarily Hispanic neighborhood is some of the tastiest Mediterranean food I've encountered in L.A. The food is fresh, generous, and delicious. This is our 2nd time to Sofreh's. Ŵe were here about 9 months ago and today were celebrating our 20th Anniversary. The first person we met was our cashier, waitress, Amy. She was very courteous and helpful in what we should get since we were not familiar in how and what to order. I drove by when the place was being readied for grand opening. It must have been difficult at the start of the Covid-19 stay at home restrictions. I went to place a take out order. I got one beef shish kabob plate and one chicken shish kabob plate. Took 15 minutes to cook. The meals were packaged nicely on fa bed of fluffy rice, with sliced onion, a grilled tomato, grilled Anaheim chili, a two pieces of pita bread cut into eight pieces. I asked for the chicken and beef to be mixed. Comes with a diced tomato, cucumber and parsley salad. The chicken was tender, moist and cooked to perfection. The beef was really good too! Everything taste very fresh and is made from scratch. The chicken shawarma is cooked to perfection. They drizzle a very tasty sauce over it which takes it up to another level. I'm gonna have to say Sofreh is So-so. The food is decent, but nowhere near the caliber of many of my other Los Angeles favs, like Dune and Bok Bok, and don't get me started with those in the Glendale area. The salad was very tangy and over-dressed in my opinion, very wet. The hummus was more chalky than smooth, but that's not really the issue, it just wasn't great. The kabobs were good, but not "gotta go back" good. The price did not match the meal.  An abundance of food might equate to a good value, but it rarely translates to good food. Having said that I am not saying the food isn't at all good, I just think that maybe people like the food that much more because of their perceived value of "a lot of food". The place is cute (quaint) and I have seen it a couple of times, even before it was Sofreh, but I never stopped in. Now after reading a Merril Shndler review in an Eastsider newsletter I decided to give it a try, because I really do love my Mediterranean fare. But unfortunately the Middle Eastern food in the middle of East LA, fell short of my standards as well as my expectations. I wouldn't say don't go or try or like it, I would say that the hype is just that, hype. It's 3 stars, it's Ok. They have a fountain, but no hand washing sink. This place was highly recommended by a friend. I ordered quite a bit since I don't live close by and wanted to get an idea If it was worth returning. The beef and kabob is good. The lamb is even better so and not over cooked. The chicken breast kabob was dry. Very dry. Too dry. Do not get it. I repeat, do not order or even think about trying it. You've been warned. UPDATE: The owner reached out and menu online is updated. Very happy with how quickly it was updated and you can tell the quality of service is as good as the food. Food is really good, however they need to clarify what comes with each item on the online menu. I ordered through Yelp (grub hub) twice. Once last week and again today. Last week I ordered chicken shish kabob which showed at 8.99, when I got it it had rice salad and the chicken like the photo on the menu when you order online through Yelp (grub hub). I ordered the same thing again x2 since it was so good and this time I only got chicken on pita bread. I called because I was confused why it was so different this time. The lady on the phone informed me that what we ordered was just a la carte which doesn't come with rice or anything I got last time. I asked why did I get all of that last time if I ordered the exact same thing. She responded they might have gotten confused when making the order but that the order was correct as is because the plate is 17.99 and that is the one that comes with the rice, salad etc. Which is fine, but honestly I'm just upset I paid almost $20 for a bunch of pieces of chicken on a pita bread. The food was amazing! I used to have to drive to Glendale for Mediterranean food but this place is my new go to! Chicken was super flavorful and melt in your mouth, the greek salad soo yummy!
