Friendly staff, and delicious food. Had the fish tacos and the chicken mole enchiladas, both delicious. The guacamole, chips and salsa were all tasty as well. You can definitely over eat it's all so delicious. So much to choose from on the menu and want to come back and try more. read more

Sol y Luna is one of our favorite Mexican restaurants in the area but we had not been there during COVID. We decided to try a take-out dinner yesterday. The food, as always was excellent but what prompted me to write this review is the care and attention to detail we received at every stage of this process. Mia, the owner of the restaurant made every attempt to make this a terrific experience, including offering to bring the food out to our car, curbside. Everything was prepared exactly as requested. The take out portions were great, the packing was high quality and we even got a portion of chips and salsa, just as we would expect if we ate at the restaurant--but with a note of thanks for supporting her small business. Horrible service. The servers were all chatting and couldn't care less. We ordered a VIRGIN margarita and after fifteen minutes were told there bar was really backed up...okay, so how about you take out food order in the meantime! The whole experience too way too long. The place looks really fancy with large ornate chairs, heavy wood tables & crystal bar but the patrons are all in shorts and sandals. Food was pretty good...wish the service had been and they would have received more stars from me. Carne asada was dry, fish tacos were good and my husband really enjoyed his chili verde. Decent salsa as well. Definitely better Mexican food and service in town. I'd rather have that then pretty furniture! read more

Restaurant is visually appealing. Inflation is out of control, however, their portions of dinner plates would to a regular person look like a child's plate. When paying dinner prices and get minimal rice and beans that cost so little to make would make me think they are skimping. We won't be back. read more

This place is wonderful! I know some people will say this place can be a little pricey but you pay for what you get here. The servers are very alert and the service is quick. I went for a birthday dinner for a party of 12. For special dinners they have a room that is in closed for privacy. This room is very spacious and nicely decorated. There is another room on the other side which both rooms are split down the middle with a wooden windows sliding doors. The place looks nice. When thinking what to wear to this place you mostly want to dress nice some jeans and a cute shirt with heels or a nice dress and guys a shirt jeans or something nice. Then let's get to the food! They give you pretty good size plates that come with beans and salad or even they have soup. I got the lobster soup and then shrimp la diabla, or something like that and it was very tasty!!!!! PS THEY HAVE A GOOD DRINK MENU !!!! Get the Margarita if you want a good size drink with great flavor the other drinks are kinda small but the margaritas are perfect!!! Nice place:) read more

Great place for group outing for happy hour with its great prices and appetizers to share. Atmosphere is good and decor is nice and modern with plenty of natural light, including a outdoor patio for enjoyment. I have not been impressed with the food on several occasions, due to lack of flavor, and presentation. Staff is very nice but lack energy. Over all I will return, but stick to happy hour bar visits only. read more

I was really excited to try this place. They have an extended happy hour if you sit in the bar or on the patio. Only issue was the bar seating inside was very limited, so we had to sit outside to get the happy hour prices. I'd love for Sol y Luna to consider putting up some misters around that patio, maybe some fans, and to check on those umbrellas that were difficult to adjust and seemed to move a whole lot for such a light breeze during a sweltering heat wave. The margaritas were made well, large size, and worth the price. The happy hour plates were surprisingly large and filling. The food was good. Just wish they considered the patio atmosphere a little more. read more

Arrived at 6:50 on a Thursday evening. Was told the wait would be 30-40 minutes for a table. The hostess said there were seats in the bar if we wanted to eat in there. So we went in the bar and got a table right away. The waiter was prompt and took our drink order. He came back a couple of minutes later and gave us our drinks and took our food order. Thirty minutes later and still no food, even thou people who came in after us got their food. I motioned the waiter over and asked where our food was? He said it would be out in a couple of minutes. Wait. Wait. Wait. After 45 minutes our food finally arrived! Forty five minutes for simple Mexican food?!! And my wife specifically asked that NO cilantro be on her food. Of course there was cilantro sprinkled on her food. She picked it off instead of sending it back. And our food was very bland. When the waiter took our plates he asked if we would like a free flan for desert for our long wait. At this point we just wanted to leave. After he finally brought me our check he said the cook made a mistake which resulted in our long wait. He said it wasn't his fault. He obviously was hoping I would tip him appropriately. I did. We left after 90 minutes for a simple meal. Needless to say, we will not be back. read more

My wife and I have been wanting to try this place out for sometime now. We had a chance to sneak away from the kids and took advantage. We enjoyed our experience here. The atmosphere was inviting and relaxing. We were sat down right away and our waiter was quick with our food and drinks. I had the enchiladas Cielo, Mar, Tierra. I always get a variety to see what I like when I first try a a new restaurant. I enjoyed all three chicken, beef, and shrimp. The beef was particular juicy and not dry. Excellent. My wife enjoyed the drinks and we had a great time overall. Great place will definitely be back. read more

Update below: If I could give 0 stars I would!!! This has been our families go to place for over a year. Most in restaurant. Know us. Tonight my husband and son went to eat dinner. My sons dinner came out wrong . My son informs him and he says that's what you ordered. For one my son don't eat pork and it was carnitas. All the other waiters know this too!!! His plate was remade and then he brought it out and abruptly took my husbands plate and he wasnt even done!!! Then the bill came and it was wrong and I told my son to just talk to Norma and she was going to fix it. The other waiter came up and took the receipt and told her she couldn't fix it!!!! This is the absolute worse experience we've ever had. I I do want to note that everyone that works there has always been friendly aside from tonight. Food is good ! For some reason this waiter who I have come to find out that's known our family since my boys were young had attitude. UPDATE: We went back and talked to the owner. She is a very nice person. I feel much better and feel that all issues will be resolved. We love this place and the people that work there. Nobody's perfect, we all have bad days. read more

24$ for some fajitas. They came with damn near no veggies! Normally get great service here, when the owner is present, however on this day she wasn't there. And it showed! The waitresses complained about where we were sitting, and it then took 15 mins for one to ever make it to our table. Extremely disappointed with the service and food. Charge an arm and a leg and then get shit service wasn't what I wanted for my mother's day dinner read more

Loved the food here! Have you ever had poblano chili soup? Me neither until the day I came here and let. me. tell. you!!! It is amazing! They give you chips and salsa then ask you if you want the soup of the day or salad. Of course I'll have soup. Service was great and the food was great. I had the fajitas and fiancé had the shrimp enchilada. Definitely recommend coming here. read more

Started when I went to pick up my online order. Server wouldn't go back to get my food until I paid an extra $4.60, there at the front. I gave him $5 and he didn't give me my change. He then makes me wait for my food, which is now 10 minutes past the time it was supposed to be ready and 45 minutes since I had placed the online order. I took the food home to realize that it was missing several items from the order, including tortillas for the fajitas. I called the the restaurant and the server stated he placed the tortillas in the bag. I told him he didn't and that he was missing other items. He then put me on hold. Once he finally came back to the phone he told me I could come back to get the missing items and that the chef forgot to put the items in the bags. Went back and asked to speak to the manager. The server then told me that the manager only comes in for a little bit in the morning and the afternoon. Didn't offer to take my information or provide the manager's contact information. The food wasn't that good. Problems getting a complete order. A manger that can't bother to be at the restaurant to make sure things are done correctly. I won't go back. You've all been warned. read more

My wife love this place as they have the best mocojate (sp) in her opinion. Personally, I think the place is 'ok'. The price is on the high side (probably due to the rent) and the atmosphere is plush (better than average Mexican restaurant). My favorite dish is the fajita in any Mexican restaurant, but Sol y Luna serves the dish already cooked (no sizzling on iron plate). Their cadillac margarita is very good. I can't comment on the flavor since I'm not a hispanic other than to say its good, but someone with more refined taste might be able to differ. read more

Well, the drinks are incredible here. They have non alcoholic options too. I had the strawberry paradise, so delicious. Friends had mango mojitos. I ordered cheese quesadillas. They were cheesy and good. My friend had cheese enchiladas. We also ordered a side of guacamole. No complaints about food. Service is slow, but all items were delicious. We were seated next to an area that blew the scent of trash or something stinky from over the wall. Service was nice and seated us in a different location. read more

Came for drinks and really enjoyed ourselves. We had the skinny margarita, pomegranate margarita, and the mango mojito. All of the drinks were amazing! It is pricey, BUT, the price includes tip! So that's something to consider. I like knowing that the servers and staff are being paid a living wage, and the tip is included in the price. Will be back for more drinks and to try some menu items! We enjoyed the vibe of the restaurant and the staff were friendly and attentive. Thank you!!! read more

I've been here twice and have had pretty good experiences so far. The restaurant is beautiful but the booth seating is a tad uncomfortable. The food I've had has been pretty delicious with good size portions. This place is a little more on the upscale side so just be prepared to dress a little nicer. I came here the first time in workout clothes for dinner and got a few funny looks (I could care less I really wanted enchiladas). The bar seems pretty popular as most people gravitate towards that area. Servers have been prompt and helpful. Not my favorite Mexican restaurant in town but still pretty good. read more

This place has awesome drinks y'all. You can order ten shots on fire......say what???? I kept it simple and opted for a Cadillac margarita that was on point. My sister ordered their cucumber margarita that came with an extra shot, she loved it! Food was great...especially the Luna fries. I neglected to take a picture of them because we gobbled them up before I could. The fries are covered in nacho cheese with chicken, carne, bacon and jalapenos. What's not to love!? *Sigh* read more

I have been to this place twice. Drinks were great, food was good, and the atmosphere was nice. They are a nicer Mexican Cuisine choice for sure. The patio furniture has a some what regal feel to it and is on the smaller side. Walking through the dining area looked nice, but not all the way practical with the over sized chairs. I would think if they had large parties they wouldn't be completely comfortable. The bar area is nice as well. The bar lit up all the way around on the counter top with the bar lighting being dim. Bar seating is pretty limited with only a few tables available in the section. One of the Best micheladas I had in a while! I have only had drinks and appetizers, but so far I have no complaints! read more

This place is legit. It's a really nice restaurant with great food. I almost didn't give it a try because of some of the reviews. I'm glad I didn't listen. I'm not from Bakersfield, but when I'm in Bakersfield it will be a must stop. Some of the best salsa and chips I've ever tasted. read more

I"m from LA - East LA mind you, and I'm accustomed to authentic, delicious Mexican food on a regular basis. Street tacos, mom and pop joints in the hood. The real deal. I'm very picky, but .... I was not prepared to like it here, but I just love this place. I don't understand whatsup with the yelp reviews; I think this is one of the first time Yelp has been totally off. I was telling my friends about this place on Thursday night, and my one friend who doesn't even like Mexican food said she loves this place. She went on and on about the decor. "That is big she likes the restaurant - she doesn't even like Mexican food !" said my other friend. Yeah, the food is spectacular.... Wait, I should temper that because I've first ordered appetizers that were so yummy, so I've never gotten to dinner. I got the 3 mini taco combo - twice. I'm a big fan of the chorizo taco, but the chicken and steak is also very good. Tonight I had hard shelled, last time, soft tacos with little onions and cilantro. Both ways delicious. The combo comes with three little margaritas - melon, strawberry and regular. So fun! I love variety! Though I was not hungry, I remember the recommendation of the waiter from the last time I was here, so I also got the sampler platter with taquitos, flautas, cheese quesadilla, nachos, two wings (AWESOME and spicy!!) and onion rings. It comes with the homemade salsa, guacamole and sour cream. Incredible. I don't even have room for "dinner" but the waitress showed me her favorites for next time. The servers are so welcoming, charming, friendly. Everyone who worked there seemed to go out of their way. Fernando came by a couple of times. He was great, taking care that everyone in the bar area was being tended to. Yes, I did have a waitress. Yet, another who recognized me from the other day (oh OKAY I admit it, I was here two days ago!) came to say "hi," and another came over to ask whether I had tried the Cadillac margarita. I hadn't and he brought me one on the house. (He saw me taking pictures and asked whether I worked for a magazine lol) No sir. I'm just one of those geeky Asians that likes to take pictures of their food! Listen, you MUST GET A CADILLAC MARG when you come here! Other reviewers recommended the cadilac margarita - they were right. It's good! It actually has a little thing of grand mariner on the top. It is very cool! The jalapeño margarita is also very wonderful (it has a chamayo (sp) fruit/ chili with it that I really like - it's both savory and sweet, hard to describe), as is the Pink Lady, especially if you like Rumchata like my boyfriend does. We saw the owner drinking a Pink Lady the first time we were here, so we knew it was good! The venue is gorgeous. This restaurant is beautiful, classy... but not stuffy. It is both nice ambiance, and warm. It is obvious the owner / (or do they have a professional decorator?) was so careful to every single detail, whether it be the chargers (specially ordered from Mexico I was told), the chairs, the bar, the booths (gorgeous leather booths!) or the bathroom lol - really, it's nice! It is an exceptional experience. I don't mean to diss Bakersfield, but it is, in my opinion, the nicest venue to eat in Bakersfield. (There once was a very nice restaurant one overlooking the Sundale golf course, but it closed down :( ) There is a great crowd here. Young, but not too young. Having a nice time, but not slobbery intoxicated good time .... Enjoying the food, company, it is comfortable. It is a perfect place to go whether it be for drinks, a dinner date, or a nice dinner.... You should come here. read more

Not very good. Ordered bacon shrimp and Chile verde. The Chile verde was so so and the rice was dry and like three spoonfuls. The beans were ok and their salads are very good. Shrimp was either refried or fried in old oil. The chips and salsa were great. The service was goo for a busy night. Wouldn't recommend wouldn't return read more

Last night was my mothers birthday and I want to thank the staff and chef's for a great evening. My mother and I loved the food, and the staff was excellent as usual. I have been here before, but it was my mother first time eating here. She really enjoyed it and made it very clear to me she would love to keep coming back. If I could give this restaurant a minus star, I would. Worst service ever. The bartender was so rude and the food is terrible. No flavor, lack of presentation and since it was basically dead. The service was terrible. No wonder it's a ghost town in there. I'm glad we came to La Costa. We were greeted with a smile and our bartender Maddy was exceptional. Do not waste your time going to Sol Y Luna !! Waste of your time and money. Walk across to Wikis instead!! Great service by Pauly, John, Brea, Amy and Heidi!!! Mike the owner is very attentive as well as his Managers George and Manny. Will NEVER recommend anyone to Sol Y Luna. By the way, it's no wonder why they closed the restaurant on Truxtun. It's never a good sign at a Mexican restaurant when your waitress brings out the chips and salsa and the first thing they say is that if you decide you want more chips and salsa it's going to be an extra charge. We didn't even receive a nice greeting from her before she told us this. Anyways, no big deal, must be tough times for this place and if they decide they need to nickel and dime customers for some extra corn chip money, that's their business. I'm a one chip basket guy anyways. The food is nothing to write home about and the atmosphere is awkward and somewhat depressing. We stayed for a couple hours and only saw three other families eat during core dinner time. The workers all had plastic gloves on, which I assume is supposed to be more sanitary because of a Covid, but they never replaced their gloves and therefore didn't wash their hands, so I assume they were protecting themselves and not the customers? It was just weird and a little gross. My wife and I shared fajitas and noticed we were charged an extra $5 bucks for 3 small tortillas and spoon full of sour cream. We spent a healthy amount on very expensive over priced drinks so I was caught off guard by all the small meaningless extra charges. I still was positive at this point despite the subpar experience thus far. The final straw was the attitude of the bartender and his rudeness. It was a younger guy and he was not friendly or accommodating and was enough of a jerk for us not to want to come back. There was an older guy who helped us some and he was nice, no problems with him. This place is clearly bleeding and needs help. read more

I'm going to have to say no to this restaurant. The food was overpriced and mediocre and service was just meh. The ambiance is nice, but it certainly doesn't make up for the service or the food. The only thing I liked was the salsa and chips, which I ate for an entire 1 hour and 15 minutes because our server did not take our food order until after 40 minutes of sitting in the patio. The entire time I was there was about 2 hours 50 minutes for just two people on a weeknight. It's too bad because I really wanted a decent Mexican restaurant in the neighborhood. read more

This is a sad day. I've always loved Sol y Luna. Last night my family and I went out for some Friday fun. We were told after the first round of chips and salsa that we would be charged per order of chips and salsa after the first round. We were given the excuse "there are many other restaurants doing the same". I asked to speak with a manager and the owner came out promptly. Her reasoning was that so many patrons wasted chips and salsa and with so many people hungry, she couldn't let herself see it go to waste. As someone who works with the fragile community fighting for food security on a daily basis, this is bogus. This is price gouging and should not be tolerated. Prices are already extremely high and taxing your customers to keep them from eating without any sort of implication before indulging is ridiculous. Good luck Sol y Luna. read more

I've been to this restaurant before Covid a few times but I've grown to appreciate their intense safety and good food even more now. Soooo SAFE lol it's amazing. I trust them with not only the quality but the safety which is totally saying something. It's more expensive that average but it's not like they're saying it's fast food. It's a fancier restaurant in an expensive plaza. The business is trying their best and I appreciate it. Shrimp tacos are amazing and my fave. The quality of the meat or seafood is also noteworthy! read more

This review is for sitting in a booth in the bar with my family for a birthday dinner.. and having the most loud group at the bar, screaming profanity, allowing them to continue to drink and allowing them to close the doors so they can continue to act fools even louder, harassing other guests in the bar..I can't believe the manager didn't step up to kick them out. We were told they come every Sunday, well then why are you continuing to have them harass your patrons every week? read more

I was hesitant to go to this place based on the reviews but I went since a friend of ours really wanted to go. We showed up 30 minutes after it opened and we were the second table to be seated. It was a very elegant place. It seemed they spent a fortune to decorate it. I ordered the 8oz Carne Asada (NY steak) medium for $24.95 which I thought was overpriced for the size but I thought to myself maybe it would be the tastiest steak I have ever had. The other menu item were all around 20 dollars. So I did ask to substitute the enchilada included in the meal for a taco which I have done at many other Mexican establishments in town. The waiter sternly said no. I politely excepted it even though I would think a restaurant would be flexible with a customer who is paying such high prices for Mexican food. So we get our food which didn't take long. The presentation of the food on the plate was nice. My steak was pretty thin and wasn't medium which I had requested. The steak knife they provided could not easily cut the steak. My jaw hurt from chewing the tough steak and it was so bland I had to add salt and pepper to eat it. If you charge 25 dollars for steak, you should at least buy high quality steaks. The steaks I make at home from Walmart for 8 dollars can at least be cut with a regular knife. I normally don't write too many review unless it's the best food I've had or the worst. Please avoid this place. You can go to two great Mexican restaurants in town for the price of one meal at this place. I'd say they need to spend more money on getting high quality ingredients instead of expensive chairs and decor. read more

I enjoyed the waiter's suit the most. The service was excellent as well. It looks overly fancy when you walk in, and I felt under-dressed. I Went for appetizer plate and a mai tai. The drink was perfectly made. I was not impressed with the appearance of the appetizer- or with the taste! It was overall messy looking and the taste was hard to choke down. The beans on the nachos were cold and tasted weird. It was not busy when I went so I expected this to be made perfect. read more

Came here because it was close by. The place looks great. When it came to the food though it was overpriced and didn't taste like authentic Mexican food. It was bland for my taste. I've eaten at other places that offered much more for much less. read more

My first review from some time back is below. Went back to this restaurant to see if it could redeem itself after all, friends insisted on going there for dinner. Thought what the hell alright. Things have changed since the last review. For one thing, the prices have almost doubled. The alcohol is not measured and they have what looks to be more people working to get you in and out sooner. What has not changed is the lack of flavor or hospitality in the place. The beans are a sad display of food quitting. Rice lacked flavor and sauce. The salsa can only be described as left over and the tacos were a soggy mess. Some advice for the management: taste your food and Fix taste. Train your people to smile and move faster like tips depended on it because they do. Hire a mixologist that speaks English! Expect to hear Spanish in a Mexican restaurant but it's rude to continue it passed a certain point especially around us English speaking people. Old review;; Don't judge a book by its cover. The food is as fake as the people who own and run it. The decor is beautiful but flavor is not something this restaurant can boast about It will make more money in alcohol than food. Find people who care about all customers not only those they have commonalities and find a chef who knows how to flavor food and keep it hot. Cold food. Cold attitudes. Cold review. We went here for dinner on a Wednesday night, were told the patio was full, even though there was an empty table then, and the same one when we left. We ordered a margarita and a glass of wine. The wine was OLD (and I don't mean well aged!) the bottle had been opened and saved for way too long. I sent it back, and 20 minutes later brought a glass of another wine, but they didnt know what it was or if the price was different. It was ok, but they are cheap - pour 5 glasses per bottle, rather than 4. The food arrived - a chicken taco salad, all wilted lettuce (OLD too) and the seasoning on the chicken was NOT good. One of the servers hit me by mistake with her big round serving platter...Didnt even acknowledge it, just hit me & kept going..no apology at all. My mother in law and I decided to try this place out after getting our nails done. The place has been open for 9 days. While the food was absolutely delicious the noise level was really loud. They have reasonable prices and a great selection of food. The customer service is needing improvement. But over time I think it will make it. It's in a great location. Wiki's might have a run for its money. They have wine and harder alcohol. I would recommend it. More of a place for adults though. read more
