Overhyped? We were nearby so we stopped by to try some of their famous aebleskivers. There is a small window where you can place your order and get it to go. There was quite a line building up, although somewhat artificial due to the slow service. Nonetheless, it took us about 15 minutes to get to the window to order. The way the donuts are made are akin to takoyaki where batter if poured into spherical molds. The donuts are made fresh and have a crisp exterior and soft interior. A final dusting of powdered sugar and served with raspberry jam. They basically tasted like round pancakes to me. Nothing crazy. read more

I don't know how a breakfast can taste as bad as mine today. I had the vegetable omelette. The eggs were rubbery, the vegetables inside were cut large and undercooked and they placed a slice of American cheese on it. The side of hash browns was a pile of undercooked potato. They were warm, fluffy, and tasty Danish pancake balls that came topped with powdered sugar and a sweet Raspberry Jam. The jam really elevated the dessert since the Æbleskiver themselves were a bit plain. Nonetheless these were very good and at a good value. You get 3 big pancake balls for only $4.90. They were very filling even for me as a guy. I think I would've been satisfied with one ball and a half, so you can definitely share this. The service was also great as well! The server processing my order was super nice and even tried to make sure I had napkins since this dessert can get messy. They also take card payments. Overall, a good experience here! Probably best not to go during peak holiday season. The line extended three businesses down the sidewalk for the "pick-up" window. Our seating, around early afternoon, was about an 1.25 hour wait. The lady calling out names wasn't very loud against the bustle of the street and we missed our name being called even though we were only about 10 feet from the entrance. So we had to wait another 15 minutes. You'd think they'd invest a text notification service but I suppose they want to keep the "novelty" of the restaurant? I ordered my son the chicken strip meal and one of the strips was fish, which could've been a huge issue if he had a seafood allergy but they replaced it. The German bratwurst was unfortunately not for me, though I was excited to try something new. It was both salty and lacked flavor other than "meat." It was served with mixed veggies that were clearly from frozen. We sat near the kitchen and I saw the large container they scooped my frozen veggies out of. The mash and veggies that came with the bratwurst didn't taste high quality at all. Everything was okay, low quality, standard diner food but nothing to go out of your way for. I think this place just has prime real estate and gets by on the name and the abelskivers. Even the abelskivers were just okay. Even though this restaurant is in downtown Solvang on a Main Street, they only price their a aberskivers at $5.00 for three. It's ridiculously affordable and I loved it. What I loved more was the Hot pancake like ball of love with powdered sugar and jam. They were so good we went back again before we left. We also shared a cheese and bacon omelette. Never had so much crispy bacon on an omelette before. We requested extra crispy bacon and extra crispy hashbrowns. A lot of times they don't serve it crispy enough. This place did! *Delayed post from Dec '24. Visited here during Lillejuleaften (Little Christmas Eve on 12/23) to enjoy the holiday atmosphere. This restaurant had great décor to keep your eyes constantly entertained, from wood carvings on the booths to miniature homes of all styles along the ceiling's border and Danish sayings painted on the wood beams. They even have a miniature store at the front where you can buy jams and flour to make your own Aebelskiver at home. It was extremely crowded when we arrived, as expected given the holiday, but thankfully we were seated immediately because we opted for the bar instead of a table. While our servers were doing their best, it was obvious they were running very behind. They didn't have any utensils for us to use and it took a very long time to get our food. We watched as plates were assembled behind the counter in front of us, then popped into the microwave to be reheated. Not the most appetizing site, but to be honest, our orders were still delicious. We ordered the Danish meatball and Danish sausage plates, both of which came with red cabbage and mashed potatoes with gravy. The meatballs also came with steamed vegetables, which were the only things I didn't quite care for as they were mushy and lacked proper seasoning. The other items were great in flavor and texture, except the chicken sausage was drier than the others, most likely because the fat content was lower than say the pork link. The mustard dipping sauce was tasty and helped moisten the chicken sausage. The famous Aebelskiver was definitely worth stopping in, but with 3 large dough balls, it's just too much for 2 people to eat comfortably after a full meal. I'd recommend skipping the ice cream if you find yourself in this situation. Otherwise, you can line up at the outdoor pick up window to just order Aebelskiver and skip waiting for a table altogether. It reminded my of a funnel cake ball stuffed with raspberry jam. This was my first stop on my trip up the coast. I always make it a point to stop and eat here when I am able. The food is always absolutely delicious, and the portion sizes are perfect. I had the danish sausage with eggs and hash browns, it was exceptional. My son had the eggs with pancakes and bacon and he actually ate everything on his plate which never happens. My wife was also very happy with her California eggs Benedict. The ambience is very cozy and the lighting keeps things calm. My coffee was kept full and our waters were always refilled, we were checked in on periodically to make sure everything was ok. I should also add that we had the Abelskeevrrs with ice cream and it was almost a whole meal by itself. Tasty Æbleskiver! I ordered the Æbleskiver (a pancake-like, 2 1/2 inch round ball), served with powdered sugar and a delicious raspberry jam. The Æbleskiver were between a dense and a fluffy pancake. I also had the 2-egg breakfast with hashbrowns and toast. I like my hashbrowns "well-done". These were both cooked perfectly. The toast was especially good with butter and that raspberry jam. I had the combination platter first time trying this platter it was very good, the portion was big! It came with soup or salad I had a pea and ham food very interesting flavor it was different but good. We also tried the open sandwich every thing was fresh, but my favorite was their home made raspberry jam (you can buy some to go). Absolutely disgusting. On July 3rd around 12 PM, my family and I were sitting at the bar with a clear view of the food prep area. We watched an employee named Diana preparing a plate of aebleskivers with jam and ice cream. Before adding the ice cream, she was repeatedly digging her bare fingers into the aebleskivers and pressing her long acrylic nails directly into them to make room. It wasn't just a quick touch. She kept poking and pushing at them with those long nails. Watching someone's bare hands and long acrylic nails sink into ready-to-eat food was honestly nauseating. Acrylic nails can trap bacteria underneath them, and seeing food handled like that without gloves completely ruined my appetite. To make things worse, when we were leaving, she was at the register texting and talking on her personal phone while working. That only made the whole situation feel even more unsanitary and unprofessional. Management seriously needs to address this. Food safety should never be taken this lightly. read more

Thursday, 12-19-2024: We came here for a late lunch and we were hoping it wasn't too crowded. Our fears were allayed as soon as we entered and seated right away in a booth. It still has that Old World feel, which we enjoy. We recall the meals from last year that we totally savored. I really enjoyed the Danish sausage I had with my previous breakfast so I opted for the Danish sausage on a croissant. Hubby ordered a BLT on white toast. Our drinks & food came out very quickly. My sausage croissant came with potato salad & pickled red cabbage. All three were very tasty. My hubby enjoyed his meal as well. Our server was hard working because this time she was serving a crowd! She took great care of us although the tempo had increased for her. The restaurant was nicely decorated for Christmas. We noticed a poster of a gentleman in monk clothing and thought it looked like Jeff Bezos so I took a photo. I asked the server, who laughed and said he's a local something or another. I had to try the famous Aebleskivers on my trip to Solvang. These doughy Danish pancake balls with raspberry jam and powdered sugar were delicious. I'm not sure if they sell them anywhere else other than Solvang Restaurant. Outside of the restaurant, I saw that there was a line of people waiting to order their Aebleskivers and I got in line. I later found out that if you order from the line outside, you have to eat them outside and can't enter the restaurant. If you want to eat inside the restaurant, you can walk in, however, I was told that the prices inside are different. Anyways, the line was pretty long but I finally got to the front and ordered 3 orders of the Aebleskivers with 2 hot chocolates and a coffee. Each order comes with 3 Aebleskivers. I thought the price for the order of 3 Aebleskivers was not bad- you get 3 for $4.90. The Aebleskivers were so yummy! They were warm, soft, and golden on the outside. The raspberry jam and powdered sugar went really well with them! However, they were slightly undercooked inside. Their coffee was not anything extraordinary, just regular coffee. The hot chocolate was good. I just wish I would've known about their not eating inside if you order outside rule to begin with because we would've preferred to have eaten inside.
