This is the CUTEST place to brunch. I went here solo on a quick trip to Chicago and absolutely loved how cute the space was. It's really good for photos and the food was pretty good as well. They have a lot of really unique pastries and drinks. My waitress was really sweet and definitely made sure I was okay from time to time. Food - At this point I consider myself a regular. I tried the Branzino which was a very elegant dish. Very simple yet tasty; The bed of broccolini laying in a zesty buttery sauce hits the tongue with a punch of flavor. It doesn't leave you feeling too full which is nice and saves a little room for the sweet tooth. Service - Jose was my server and recommended my entree. It was a pretty busy Wednesday night for two servers but he checked in on me at a reasonable pace to make sure everything was great. He also makes his own personalized special cup of coffee for me that's to die for. I get it every time. Lastly, the blueberry chèvre cheesecake is something that should never leave this menu. Phenomenal and can't find anything like it anywhere else! My only vice, make it bigger or sell it by the whole! I've been wanting to try this restaurant, so when I saw that they had these cute greenhouses for outdoor dining, I jumped on getting a reservation. It was freezing that night, so we were hoping the greenhouses were heated. However, the greenhouse was not heated, and instead we were provided with blankets. This was pretty disappointing because other restaurants have heated igloos. So it was difficult to fully enjoy our meal, but the food and service was great nonetheless. We ordered the steak, duck confit, and tender broccoli salad. Everything was delicious, particularly the steak. My boyfriend said it was the best he's had in chicago! However, the portions were smaller, but I felt like I couldn't order more because they told us to order all at once. The waitress never let us know that that would not be enough food either. Overall, the food was amazing but the experience not the best. Come on a warmer day - which might be difficult in chicago winter unfortunately. read more

I was excited to try this place during Restaurant Week. It had been a while since my group of 5 friends had weekend brunch together. It was easy to find and looked inviting from the outside. The first thing that caught my eye was the bar, which had modern decor and just tied the whole place together. It was busy, not surprising for a Sunday afternoon--a trendy but casual vibe. It books out pretty far in advance so definitely get reservations if you're considering it. Two of five of us had arrived right on time, but they said more people needed to show up before seating. When a third person walked in, they decided to seat us. It was just a little weird/awkward/questionable... but okay lol The service was outstanding. We were provided great recommendations. I appreciated the variety of selection on the restaurant week menu and was excited. However, by the time we were ordering at 1:30pm, an hour and a half before closing, a couple of menu items ran out including the cavatelli. The first course took a while to come out, and one of my friends got her second course before her first. My first course, the avocado toast, had a nice flavor with the roasted carrots but I felt it was too small of a portion and not toasted enough. My second course, the goat cheese omelet, was incredible! The flavors were spot on--tangy goat cheese, spicy chilies, soft eggs, and perfectly-cooked spinach. The potatoes were also something else--super crispy and flavorful. The dessert, lemon budino, was pretty tasty but also a little weird. You had to stir it quite a lot otherwise it was straight up sour. I enjoyed the shortbread cookie on the side though. Excellent service, delicious mimosas, and exceptional food! Super excited to have gotten an chance to experiment this restaurant off of the Viceroy hotel. A super classy joint with extremely friendly and accommodating service from the staff. We felt right at home here with the attention received and conversation shared. We came during lunch on a Tuesday at roughly 1pm, the place was a bit empty, which made it feel like we had the place to ourselves. I ordered the fried chicken Sandy, and let my tell you, it was absolutely delicious! The coleslaw and jalapeños make for an awesome combo flavor. Their drink selection was enjoyed while we debated the menu. We started with the crudo which was thinly sliced on a flat plate. It was tender and delicious but I missed having more juice. The bread order is almost a meal. A variety of breads on a large platter. The calamari was also a hit with a nice crunch. 3 of the group ordered the cavatelli and loved it. Just finished having breakfast and it was really good. By good I mean everything we had was fresh and tasty. We had the pastry board ( 3 different croissants, muffin and danish) and they were all good and these are not small they large size pastries. We shared the Somerset Breakfast and Fruit salad both were great. I had a cup of coffee and husband had a vanilla latte, both were great. Overall the restaurant itself is lovely, the waitstaff is very attentive and the general manager always came around to check in which was all an added bonus. As far as prices, have to keep in mind it is the Goldcoast so everywhere you go around this area is a bit more than you would pay outside of the inner city. I will say compare to other restaurants in the area I found their food to be flavorful. The only con if any is that the menu is not extensive BUT I believe it helps them truly focus on freshness and flavor which I really enjoyed. If you are staying in the area or at the hotel I would suggest checking this place out. read more

The salmon was cooked medium rare and melted in my mouth. I liked the sweet earthy crust. Butter broth not so much. The dessert however was amazing. Their menu probably changed after reopening. I've been to Somerset before during restaurant week and remembered enjoying their food, so I came here for dinner again recently and unfortunately wasn't too impressed. We got the orecchiette cacio e pepe, short ribs, and crispy brussels sprouts. Unfortunately, the brussels sprouts were way too salty for my liking (especially the ones soaked in sauce towards the bottom of the bowl). The short ribs were nothing special and the BBQ seemed to overpower any other flavors of the dish. The orecchiette was probably my favorite of all three dishes. Somerset is a beautiful place to get brunch. Visually, the entire place is stunning and makes for a great location if you need to wow an out of town guest or a date. Service here is wonderful. Our server was on top of her game and made us feel like VIPs. I ordered the french toast on my last visit which was excellent. It was crisp on the outside and soft on the inside without being soggy. It was topped with a berry compote and pepitas for texture. It's a little on the pricey side, but not outrageous given the location. I'll certainly be back in the future! read more

One year for dinner with some friends. The hummus was fantastic to say the least. In addition, I also had the burger which I really enjoyed. My friend had the lobster burger, which seemed interesting but when I tried it, I didn't love it. I think it's more that I'm not a huge seafood guy all the time. We also ordered some cocktails, which were reasonably priced and fairly well-made. The one knock I have on the place is that the service was rather slow, and not in terms of getting the food to the table, but the initial encounter with our waitress as well as getting the check. Each of those interactions took over 20 minutes each. Can I just say...worst dining experience. Period. Previously, I have dined in this place for brunch, and happy hours. And since I enjoyed my time here, I have decided to take my sister out for her birthday. It was our first time dining during dinner. I think our server name was Max? (Not sure). We were seated upstairs by the bar. It was awhile to find our server, however things went bad real fast from here. 1) He was bit standoffish. No smiles, just short questions. 2) One of the girl was non-drinker. So we didn't order any alcoholic beverage out of respect. And I think this is where he felt like we weren't good enough because our check average would be lower? He literally stopped coming over to our table, even we were out of water. We did ask about non-alcoholic drink options as well. 3) Never came over to check on food. (Most of the dish came out cold.) 4) There was group of girls next to us, where he was a frequent guest at. 5) Birthday dessert we ordered, and asked to be lit up with the candle. It just came out as it... I have never had this issue anywhere. 6) He served the silverware right on the table, and as I was shocked to see that. I looked over at other table were served differently. They all had napkins on the silverware. I don't know what was the problem, or he is just a racist. Never again... A brunch time prix Fixe menu for $35. I don't recommend the salad cos dressing is overly sour. Butternut squash soup was on point. Desserts amazing not too rich not too sweet. We came here for a lunch unexpectedly showing up. Loads of tables were open outside and they sat us out right away. Ambiance was old school hotel in Gold Coast giving a terrace-brunch experience. I got the quinoa salad, my husband got the burger, my daughter had the grilled cheese. I had an espresso which was actually really really good. My quinoa salad was fresh and had some good ingredients. Not mind blowing but good. My husband burger he enjoyed but didn't really make note of. My daughter poked and ate a quarter of the grilled cheese. Technically the grilled cheese said it came with ham but we didn't have any on my daughters. Also it was supposed to be a side of fruit and instead she had a side of fries which I wasn't thrilled about. Overall was a good, maybe we will be back if we are in the neighborhood . My friend got the miso glazed salmon, which he said was delicious. However I commented on how small the portion was. He did admit that some additional garnishment or side would have made it perfect. We started off with the hummus. It was really tasty and was topped with feta, cherry tomatoes and cucumbers. A few more pieces of bread were needed. My cheeseburger was good. The server said it is served medium rare, which I was okay with. However, this made the burger not as firm and more challenging to eat (for me). Fries were spot on and served with a side of aioli. Service was nice and friendly. The manager stopped by a couple of times to check on us. I came in here with one of my best friends, my mom, and my aunt after a lovely bridal appointment in the area. I made reservations since we were on a tight schedule and didn't have much time to wait. For starters, the restaurant is beautiful. It has a gorgeous 2-story art deco design with mid-century modern furniture. We were seated at a table along the railing of the 2nd floor with a great view of the decorated windows and the main lobby. I ordered the chicken sandwich with a side salad while everyone else went for the chicken and brioche waffles. Both were solid choices. The chicken was crispy on the outside, moist and juicy on the inside, and seasoned to perfection. Service was on point and the bill ended up more reasonable than expected. Came here with my girlfriend for restaurant week a few weeks ago since we both had never tried this place and had heard good reviews. We came around 2pm on a weekday. Upon entering, no one was at the front and it took a good five minutes before anyone came by to seat us - seemed odd since there were only a few tables seated at the time. Forgot what the items were exactly called, but I ordered the avocado toast to start, the cheeseburger as my entree, and the sorbet for dessert. My girlfriend got the endive salad, crispy chicken sandwich, and a brûlée cheesecake. Everything was very good - our favorites were the endive salad, chicken sandwich, burger, and brûlée cheesecake. The fries were nothing special and probably could have been crispier. Took off a star for service. For the fact it took so long for someone to acknowledge a customer at the front, and our server came by to check in with us but almost appeared annoyed to be there. We came here for Saturday brunch and I cannot stop thinking about what I had eaten here. It was so absolutely delicious. We tried the fried chicken and french toast and the baked eggs. Soooo good!! We also tried their delicious pastries. Their menu rotate but on our visit we had the pear pop tart, pumpkin chocolate muffin and the chocolate cronut. The pastries were so good but I think my favorite was the chocolate cronut. There's an upper level and a lower level. During our visit we sat on the upper level and it was very comfortable and beautifully decorated. Extremely poor service. Wrong prices (staff will not change the price unless you show them their own menu). Mediocre food. Went with a group for a friend's birthday brunch and everything was disappointing. We ordered a couple items, some of them including the Cheeseburger, Pastry Tier, Gold Coast Breakfast, Omelet, and more. Majority of it was your average food you could get at a small, local, family-owned restaurant... Those places will probably taste even better. Flavors did not stand out and pastries were quite dry. Usually when food is just decent, a place can still make up for it with service, but it made things worse in this case. I informed our server twice that we have a birthday at the table. The 1st time he responded with, would any of you like to order dessert? I stated 'no, just something for the birthday is fine.' Fast forward about 30 minutes of us just sitting there on our phones waiting, he shows up again to ask if we were ready for the check. I stated 'yes, after the birthday - whenever you are ready.' Well, guess what follows? A check with no dessert or explanation of what's going on with our birthday request. If you do not provide the service of celebrating birthdays, you can easily inform your guests that. The server listened and ignored. Extremely disrespectful and terrible service. We waited atleast an additional 30 minutes doing nothing thinking we were waiting for a birthday dessert. As if that wasn't bad enough, some prices on our check did not match the menu. We informed the same server, and instead of apologizing and checking it himself he said, "Ok. Show me where on the menu." EXTREMELY shady. I saw the table next to us return their check for corrections too, not sure what exactly the reason is, but the server's response made me feel like he knew of the price differences but if we couldn't find it then whatever, we'll just get charged more and he could care less. $300+ regrettably spent. We celebrated Hubby's birthday over lunch at Somerset during Restaurant Week. We loved the atmosphere and the big windows in the front of the restaurant. For $24 the Restaurant Week lunch deal was a steal. I had the kale and brussels sprouts salad, crispy chicken sandwich, and chocolate layer cake. All of the dishes were spectacular but I especially loved the brussels sprout salad. I normally dislike salad dressing and I was worried that the lemon mustard dressing would drown out the taste of the brussels sprouts but to my delight it was light and was a nice addition. The chicken sandwich was crispy and the aioli sauce gave it a nice kick. Hubby had the hamachi crudo, venison sausage sandwich, and citrus sundae. He also enjoyed all of his selections but he also couldn't help but take a few nibbles from my chicken sandwich since it was so tasty. Even though we each had our share of dessert, the staff from Somerset were nice enough to provide hubby with a free slice of birthday cake and ice cream for his birthday. :D read more

The consistency of creativity and thoughtful cuisine that you find here is amazing. I enjoy that I'm pushed out of my comfort zone at every dining experience. Seasoned well and prepared well my reservation was for a holiday weekend and there was not a blimp in quality, presentation, flavor or high level of approach to the entrees my table of 4 ordered. The only slight gripe, was our server wasn't as knowledgeable on one of the entrees when we asked what vegetable was picked in one of the entrees. Also a custom request for a cosmo that you could still taste citrus in. At the table consisted of three women with a combined 100+ years of restaurant-ownership front end and backend dinning and fine dining experience. We had an amazing experience. Brunch Review: I originally made a reservation for this restaurant about a month before the date and had no problem. This place was super busy when we arrived, so I highly suggest making a reservation to avoid a wait on the weekends. The restaurant decor is clean and classy. It is connected to a luxurious hotel in the Gold Coast neighborhood, so it fits in well with the surroundings. I ordered a delicious glass of cold brew coffee, but many of the alcoholic cocktails also sounded appealing. They even offer some large format cocktails that are served in a copper pineapple. My husband and I shared the vanilla bean frosting cinnamon roll. This roll tasted great and I would order it again in the future. The size is perfect for sharing between 2 or 3 people as an appetizer. My main meal was the baked eggs. This dish was good, but both my friend and I agreed that it needed a little bit more seasoning to jazz it up a bit. It didn't need more salt, but just something like red pepper flakes or another spice. They didn't blow my mind, but they were still pretty good. The ingredients were fresh tasting and the portion was appropriate for brunch. I tried my husband's corned beef hash and I fell in love with how tasty it was. The cubed corned beef was tender. I was REALLY looking forward to trying the food here bc the menu is teeming with dishes with a hint of Asian influence (!!) but, alas, the experience didn't quite live up to my expectations. Maybe it's partly my fault for wanting it to be amazing so badly! Maybe I should've gone in with neutral expectations? *shrugs* I ordered their specialty whiskey sour with Japanese whiskey and jasmine tea to start with. It was tasty but averagely so. (No mind holes were blown.) Then came the Tuna Tartare which had a hint of Thai flavors with the coconut milk and thai curry-esque flavors. Not everyone at the table could tolerate the spiciness but I found it quite yummy. The Crunchy Lobster Spring Roll with the Wasabi Aioli was delicious but under-seasoned without the aioli. The salmon roe-topped Smoked Salmon toast was also solid but felt like it was missing something. For my main, I ordered the Berkshire Pork Chop which I asked to be cooked medium. Unfortunately, it came out overcooked and dry. Sadly, the only thing that was tasty about the dish were the tender cabbage underneath it. The Crispy Mediterranean Seabass that my bf ordered lacked any flavor without the sauce. The sauce was definitely tasty though! Overall, the experience was quite inconsistent. Nothing was terrible but it was a disappointing meal to say the least. I don't think I'll be coming back for dinner anytime soon. read more

Stopped by Somerset for breakfast on recommendation from our hotel. Beautiful spot. We had the standard breakfast of bacon, eggs and toast, the spinach and goat cheese with pickled jalapeño herb omelet and fruit salad. All three were delicious! Our server, Victor was really nice.
