I came here because the location was convenient to the Y, but after eating here, I'll definitely be coming back! The quality is top notch, the menu selection is solid and most importantly, it's just really tasty. I had the teriyaki salmon bento box. Very generous portions of everything! The tempura veggies were light and crisp, the miso soup delicious, the sides and sauces were also tasty and the salmon itself was slightly crispy on the outside and moist and delicious on the inside. We also tried the miso ramen with egg--so good and so comforting-my 5 YO declared this this best dinner he ever has had. I didn't actually try the sushi, but after our great first two experiences, I definitely will go for it next time! read more

I literally stopped here on a whim in hopes to help my craving for sushi. I arrived 20 minutes before closing but they allowed me to order with no problem. The establishment is small and quaint but was very clean. I ordered a spicy tuna roll and a crunch crab roll, i was not a bit disappointed. I sadly ate both my rolls before I remembered I should have take a picture. The crunch crab I devoured first and I even was able to convince my husband to try it. The crab was nicely shredded on top with spicy mayo sauce and on the inside was tempura shrimp and avocado, it was amazing. I absolutely despise when a sushi restaurant uses crab salad in their featured crab dishes so I was pleased to not have that experience. The tuna was very fresh with great flavor. I couldn't be happier. I will for sure come back to this hidden gem in Matthews. read more

This place is the best! Our favorite go to sushi restaurant! They are very busy so it sometimes takes a little while to get the sushi but it is worth the wait. There is a reason this place is always so busy. The food is wonderful. Also if we order online they always have our order correct when we pick up. read more

We ordered the Tonkotsu ramen and teriyaki steak bento box along with the chicken Kati's for my kids and it was really good. The ramen was not too porky and the tempura vegetables was perfect! I am so glad to see this place so close to us. The staffs were so nice and polite so you don't have to worry about any bad service. The price may seem high for the bento box but like the other reviews says, the food portion is generous so it's worth it. read more

I'll use the same phrase I see on most of these reviews...a hidden gem. It really is! I stumbled across it a few years ago shopping at the Goodwill nearby. It has since been my go-to sushi place almost every Saturday. And its 2 towns away! My favorite is the Somi Roll. There's nothing like it. And I've tried sushi joints uptown and on the east side. Yummmmm... everything was so fresh and delish!!!! We ordered a lot of food not realizing how big the portions were ... so don't let the prices fool you ... we did however stuff our faces and ended up finishing everything bc it was so good!! We had shrimp and veggie tempura, takoyaki , shrimp and veggie tempura udon, donkatsu ,sashimi platter (the fish was so fresh!!!) Somi roll, Sunkist roll (dejavu roll, spider roll, and one other one I forgot the name but they are not pictured) curry donkatsu and donburi, and to finish off matcha ice cream!!!! The service was stellar and the food again was great... the restaurant is the perfect size it has a small homey feel to it and everyone is super friendly :) def will return!!!! read more

Tried Somi for lunch and found that they have very reasonable lunch specials that include a lot of choices and fills you up. Came back for dinner and tried 4 different rolls that did not disappoint. Every thing is very fresh and the service is top notch. Also as a bonus the Sapporo is ice cold! read more

It's not a big place and already pretty full for an early dinner on a Saturday. We sat at the counter and saw that this place operates very efficiently. They got so busy with people getting on the waitlist and doing takeout, but they kept their cool!! Their food was excellent, and I'm picky about sushi. My husband and I really like this spot. Everything on the menu looks absolutely delicious and can't wait to try it all. So far, our favorites are the Red Dragon Roll, Deja Vu Roll, and Eel and Avocado Roll. The Hamachi Kama is my favorite appetizer and could eat the entire thing by myself because it's that tasty. Today we tried the Dynamite Roll and Tuna Tataki Roll (along with the Red Dragon Roll) and it was amazing. The service has always been friendly to us. Every time we've been here it's been wonderful. It WAS one of my family's favorite restaurants, but not anymore. Recently we were charged additional several dollars for kitchen cost except tips. Another time we were told there would be no egg in the noodles but still charged us same price as before. And then we arrived at 2:02pm but were told they didn't accept dine-in guests anymore although it will be closed at 2:30pm. Disappointed! read more

Whenever I go to a sushi spot, I always get the same two rolls and those two rolls let me know if the restaurant is good or not: The Philadelphia Roll and the Spicy Tuna Roll. My verdict? The sushi is good, definitely worth the price. The Philadelphia roll had a good ratio of avocado, salmon, and cream cheese. Some restaurants make the error of adding a big quantity of ingredients to the roll, but that was not the case here. My only suggestion would be to add the signature sesame seeds on the outside of the roll. The Spicy Tuna has a good spicy sauce on top of the roll. My only issue, and this is more of a preference thing, is that I don't like the cucumber they add in this roll. I feel it could do without. read more

I have been very disappointed in the food quality in the restaurants since I have moved to Charlotte from Virginia. My wife and I have gone to several different places to dine at. From fine dining establishments to highly rated hole in the walls. However my experience at Somi Sushi was unforgettable. The fish was pleasant and odorless. The tempura shrimp was retardedly flaky and crispy at the same time. The Somi Sushi roll was savory and sweet. The service was top notch. The prices are fair for the large portions you receive. My wife and I went here on christmas eve and it is now our favorite sushi spot. Our server was very nice and took great care of us. There are so many great sushi rolls to choose from. We ordered 5 or 6 and couldnt decide on a favorite because they were all perfect. We came back a few nights later because my mom was in visiting and she loves sushi. I had low expectation on this restaurant. However, my friend recommended the Korean spicy ramen and the katsu. So after getting my regular haircut with my favorite Korean hair dresser several doors down the strip, I tried their Katsu curry. The portion was generous and the katsu was crispy and tasty.
