A classic Cupertino Main Street staple. I used to come here a lot during my childhood, and it's popular amongst the nearby high schools. Their quality is solid, and their prices seem inflation-resistant, which is incredible. The service is always standard. I definitely feel bad for the high schoolers working there dealing with super long lines. There's a good amount of outdoor seating, but be prepared to wait a bit to order. I really like their fresh taiyaki - they make it right in front of you, so it's served piping hot. You can also choose from a variety of fillings. The soft serve is delicious (and lactose free!). I enjoy their classic ube and matcha flavors. The most recent time I visited, I tried the sakura berry soft serve, which wasn't my favorite. It had a sickly sweet artificial taste, almost like bubblegum. I'll definitely be coming again but sticking with the classic soft serve flavors.
Came on a hot Sunday around 2pm and SomiSomi was packed. It's located in a large food plaza with plenty of parking thanks to nearby garages. The shop itself is pretty small and more of a grab-and-go spot, but there's outdoor seating close by. I have not had SomiSomi in a really long time, and I really liked that they rotate their flavors. I ordered: -Matcha and sakura berry swirl with an upside-down ahboong and custard filling: soft serve was smooth and creamy. The matcha was solid, not too bitter with a nice level of sweetness. The standout for me was the sakura berry. It wasn't overly floral and blended really well with the strawberry flavor. I usually don't go for floral desserts, but I'd definitely get this one again. 5/5. Service was friendly, and they were clearly working hard to keep up with the crowd. Even with how busy it was, my wait was about 10-15 minutes, which felt reasonable. All in all, a solid dessert stop with unique flavors that make it worth coming back to try more.
Was looking for some dessert and saw this place. We got the soft serve ice cream in a cup - cookies and cream with sprinkles. Also decided to try the taiyaki -which are fish shaped pancakes with filling. - we chose to have Nutella and custard. They were made to order so there's a bit of a wait. The Taiyaki with Nutella was delicious - crisp on the outside and oozing with Nutella on the inside. We also had one with custard filling. The flavor of the custard was a bit disappointing in comparison to the Nutella. There's also other filling choices like red bean, matcha and a few others I can't remember. The choice of ice cream also came with a hollowed out Taiyaki on top. Really cool idea. There are tables outside to sit on a nice day. The staff at Somi Somi were friendly. Would come back again to try other flavors. And take more pictures!
You know banana matcha hates to see me coming! When I found out this was their swirl of the week, I didn't think twice. Parking was surprisingly easy on a Wednesday night, the line was also not long at all. The girl working hadn't tried the swirl, but she was able to provide her recommendation for the banana pudding flavor and it was helpful. If I worked here I would be trying everything. I appreciate that they tell you what has lactase so you know when to pop your Lactaid. On to the flavor, we ordered banana pudding and matcha swirl, ofc. I just got a few Biscoff crumbles on top and that was soooo good. My partner got Oreo and biscoff crumbles with a Nutella filled Taiyaki. The matcha really compliments the sweet banana pudding. However I do wish the banana flavor was less artificial. It reminded me of banana Laffy Taffy. No seating inside, but plenty of pet-friendly tables outside!
This Somisomi review is long overdue. Been frequenting this spot for Asian ice cream since the first time they've opened. Nowadays, I'm not the biggest ice cream person, however, last month, I had the hugest craving for matcha soft serve and they did not disappoint! My favorite thing is that they're not too sweet, so it's perfect for an Asian sweet treat. I got an upside down Ahboong with a matcha custard + matcha soft serve and extra matcha powder on top. Soooooo fire. Definitely hit the spot. I give this last experience an 8.5/10. Matcha on matcha on matcha. I also love how their soft serve is lactose intolerant-friendly. Thanks for saving my stomach LOL. The vibes inside the store are cool, very much set up takeout, with outdoor seating. Overall, definitely will come back if I ever have another crazy matcha soft serve craving.
I came on a Sunday around 2:30 and Ommgg the line was out the door and continued to be out the door and even longer when I left!! The total wait was about 20 minutes. There is only one employee and he was huffin it!! If they had another employee it would be so helpful! I got the banana pudding and matcha swirl with custard in my little fish with coconut flakes on top and it was soo soo good!!! There is no seating, just a counter. I want to get the banana pudding again before it leaves!
I really like the upside down ahboong which has a filled Taiyaki placed on top of your soft serve. On the day that we came, they offered 4 different flavors (Cookies n Cream, Matcha, Ube and Banana Pudding) and 2 swirls (Cookes n Cream + Matcha, Ube + Banana Pudding). They used to offer a Black Sesame flavor which I liked a lot and hope that they'll bring back next time I come, but I ended up choosing the plain Ube flavor. For fillings, my go to is always either Custard or Red Bean. The combination of having soft serve and then following with a bite of taiyaki is so amazing. Somisomi is definitely one of my go to dessert spots and I would highly recommend you try it if you haven't yet!
I came pretty late at night after craving dessert after dinner. It was surprisingly still pretty busy inside. The interior is very bright and welcoming, but there is no seating. I got the Ube soft serve topped with Oreos and a macaroon. It was "not too sweet" and very delicious. Overall, I had a great experience and will be back for more!
We went on Friday 6/26/2026 at 3:40 pm and the guy with curly hair working had no interest in welcoming us to the store or asking us what we wanted. When we did get out ice cream, we went outside and came back a few minutes later with nobody at the front desk. We made eye contact with the same guy who was at the back and he just went back to doing whatever he was doing without saying he'd be out in a minute or anything like that. More customers came and we just stood there wondering if anyone is going to help us. Eventually he came out and didn't apologize at all and just took orders reluctantly. Now the ice cream itself - he gave us such a TINY amount. I took a picture to show what somisomi advertised on the poster vs the pitiful short little squirt we got. Like three swirls short of the picture! You can see we haven't eaten off the top because our matcha powder topping is still there. We really got it this short. Unbelievable. We are not the type to be confrontational about getting more and felt weird asking for more. But we for sure wanted people to be warned. This guy needs major re-training or people will stop coming to this location entirely.
This is my first time going here on my own but I've had the other TAIYAKI before. I love how they freshly make the taiyaki and fill each dessert with different toppings of your choosing. The lady in front of us got a soft serve Ube and cookies and cream with the taiyaki on top and it looked simply amazing! We copied her and got basically the same thing with our own filling being taro! The taro was delicious! I love taro! And I'm kind of picky about it. Lol I will definitely be back to get an order of six taiyaki for my house! read more

This place is always busy but we don't mind the wait! The ube flavor is my favorite here, I also recently tried the float, coffee tasted strong but good! Seats are available outside and the service is fast! Workers are friendly even if they are always super busy! read more
Somi Somi is one of my favorite ice cream spots! However, this Cupertino area has many other great restaurants which makes parking super hard.... I know there are times where I have to park in the parking structure then walk over or I get lucky and there's a spot nearby within the plaza. Today I got lucky because it was around 5pm, and light rain. I usually like eating ice cream in cold weather so it wasn't busy at all. I thought the guy that was helping me with my order wasn't as friendly so I was already like meh about it. Just ordered my ice cream. Then once he made it, he then asked about the toppings but that was it... not really happy. But I was super happy with my ice cream!! Super flavorful and creamy :) . However, if I'm craving Somi Somi, I rather get it in valley fair because it's more convenient. read more
One of my favorite soft serve ice cream places with taiyaki. The bread and filling is always warm and fresh, I got the matcha and cookies ice cream with Nutella filling with macaroon topping and fruity pebbles. It's a small place but they serve the dessert in quick manner. They don't have indoor seating but they have tables and chairs outside and the ice cream is affordable price. read more

I always wanted to try somisomi and glad I was able to while visiting San Jose. Only thing that was disappointing was the taiyaki since it was overcooked. The soft serve (oreo and matcha mix) was super tasty. It also takes some time for it to be prepared and the line was out of the door, but expected since it was prime time for dessert esp after dinner. read more
Tried the Ube and cookies n cream swirl in a cup this time, without the taiyaki on top (although the taiyaki is always great too). The cereal flakes added nice crunch and texture. As usual, nice smooth soft serve with good flavor quality! I don't like Ube flavored desserts 99% of the time, but I truly enjoy the Ube soft serve here. read more

Delicious as usual! I've been here before and I remember it being amazing. I think last time I got just the milk flavor and this time I got: 1. Milk and Taro Swirl with Custard Filled Taiyaki: Delicious! The Taiyaki was so perfectly cooked and crunchy on the outside. The custard was also delicious and went so well with the ice cream. I don't know how they always make their soft serve so creamy and rich. The Taro was good but I liked the milk better because it reminded me of the milk ice cream cones I always got in Toyko. 2: Matcha: Very excellent rich matcha flavor but also rich. I like the mild bitterness meaning they use real matcha and not just artificial green tea flavoring. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Overall, worth the wait if there is a line. I love this place and I'm always excited when I'm passing by the SJ area. read more

I hadn't heard of this place before noticing it when I was walking around in Main Street Cupertino. Decided to give it a shot because it was a hot summer day. I was pleasantly surprised by the innovative ice cream flavors and the Ahboong (which I had never heard if) - a waffle shaped like an open mouth fish. We tried the Ube and Guava flavors with upside down Ahboong with Nutella filling. It was delicious and unlike any dessert I have eaten before. Would definitely go here again! read more
After class, I was craving for some sweets and wanted some Somi Somi. I wanted to make an online order, but it seems like they don't have one on their website yet. Upon arriving to the place, there is not seating available inside and it's more oriented towards takeout. It's a really small shop. Parking is limited when it's busy but you can always park on Main Street Cupertino. I put in 7 orders of taiyaki and it didn't really take long since there wasn't any customers during the time. I went home and munched on my Nutella taiyaki and it was sooo delicious. Perfect snack with a nice cup of hot coffee. Yum~ read more
Surprisingly, there was no wait on a Saturday at 7pm! Got the upside down ah-bhoong, which is basically soft serve in a cup with a taiyaki stuck on top. Soft serve quality was smooth and exactly the right amount of meltiness. I got the ube & cookies n cream combo flavor but wish I got JUST the ube or cookies n cream flavor. Both of the flavors were good on their own, but just not sure if they were good together. Taiyaki was 10/10. Crispy on the outside and soft and warm on the inside. Got the custard filling, which was perfect (not too sweet)! read more
SomiSomi is always a solid spot to satisfy my soft serve cravings. My favorite swirl flavor is the ube and cookies n cream. I also love the classic milk flavor. I usually get the soft serve in a cup and it's a great dessert for after meals. There were a bunch of people on a Tuesday evening but the line moved decently fast. read more
No wait on a Tuesday night! :D We got the 5-piece with nutella (2), ube, custard, Oreo cookie. The Oreo cookie is always amusing because they literally plunk a full Oreo cookie in! Because it is an Oreo, it is probably the sweetest one. The ube was surprisingly good - glad we decided to try it this time! And will definitely have it again next time! The bottom of the fish tail doesn't have any filling and it is super delicious anyway! Be careful once you get to the filling - sometimes it will pop out a seam or thing spot and it's HOT! read more
Every time I'm the the area, I love to get some taiyaki here. I love the crunchiness on the outside and the chewiness of the dough. The Oreo cookies filling is super yummy. They can be refrigerated or frozen and air fried to heat them up again. Delicious as new! read more
Kinda upset with myself that I didn't know about this place already! lol What a cute little place and an even cuter offering! I'll spare the details and say that their soft-serves were amazing!! We got the Ube and Cookies and Cream flavors and Ube was much better. Taiyaki was a very new and a very novel concept for me and I was very apprehensive when I ordered one, but it was soooo good!! We got the red bean filling and it was the right amount of sweet. If the line wasn't wayyy out the door, we would've ordered a couple more for sure. What really hit it outta park for me though was the service. I accidentally ordered and paid for 3 cups and then when they prepped the order, I realized my mistake. I let my server know and she promptly cancelled my additional order and reimbursed the money for the extra cup. Even with such a long line, she was very quick with rectifying my order and I thought that kinda service was a class apart. We will definitely stop by at the nearest SomiSomi location every opportunity we get! read more

Good dessert place - lots of tasty flavors! Can't wait to come back and try more. I got the Red Bean Taiyaki - the outside is so chewy and spongy! The filling was sweet but not too sweet. It's freshly prepared so hot when you eat it. The only thing is since it's scooped filling - the distribution of filling is off and varies from taiyaki to taiyaki. read more
~~ F O O D {+} TAIYAKIS The fillings are nutella, ube filling, red bean filling, custard, Oreo, and cheese. 2 for $4 or 5 for $8. These are made fresh to order. The Oreo filling is literally a straight up oreo placed in the middle of the taiyaki batter and then covered with more batter hahaha. The cheese filling is 2 cubes of cheddar cheese. The ube and red bean fillings are small scoops of the paste, and the nutella filling comes from a squirt bottle. The pastry is piping hot and CRISP on the outside! {+} AH BOONGS The ice cream soft serve flavors rotate each week! So even though on the website they have a bunch of different flavors, they only offer 2 flavor combinations on any given day. The taiyaki waffle cone is different than the filled taiyaki. It is actually made in a different waffle iron and it is a real a cone with an opening. You can ask them to fill the inside and put ice cream on top! ~~ S E R V I C E The service is a little slow especially if there are a lot of people, they have a limited number of waffle irons and usually just one person making all the waffles. Despite being slow, the staff is still really nice. I asked for them to get us some forks so we can split our taiyakis and he only had spoons upfront, but he went to the back to get us forks! So nice! ~~ A M B I A N C E There are NO lines on a weekday. Also there is no place to sit inside the restaurant, you must sit outside somewhere else. read more

I live right next door to somi somi. I never really went because the line is incredibly long always... Today must have been a fluke cuz only 2 people were in line..I quickly jumped in with a buddy. Ordered the upside down taiyaki with nutella filling. Black sesame ice cream w oreo toppings. I hit my sugar max after eating just one..ha ..but it was well worth it. Pros: Taiyakis are made fresh to order.. you can follow your nose and end up here. Buy them in a box of 5 with optional fillings or upside down on ice cream. ( My fav) Cons: No indoor seating ..there is bar table and some stools available outside to eat..but most people just stand n eat or walk around the illuminated courtyard. Great taiyakis! I've been to somi somi in LA and Livermore before but this was my first time in Cupertino. I love this place but today the person taking my order was very rude and ruined my experience. My friend was asking what we had order because the screen that shows your order cut off our order and we couldn't scroll the screen up. The worker said our order so fast with an attitude that we had to asked again and he looked so annoyed. Anyways, I got the matcha and ube swirled together with coconut and fruity pebbles. It was good and freshing but the vibe of the worker killed it for my friends and I. read more
These cuties almost look too good to eat! We're a little late to the game because the line is always so long. I'm happy to report the line moves pretty fast. The soft serve was light and creamy with very subtle flavors. The taro "filling" was more a light coat inside the taiyaki. Two soft serve flavors change daily. We ordered milk and sesame. Oddly, we received ube and milk which wasn't even on the menu. Still tasty. Good thing we weren't allergic! read more

I've wanted to try SomiSomi for some time now and it was just as good as advertised! For the soft-serve, you can opt to have it just as a cup (no fish), in the fish, or to have the fish as a party hat. With the hot weather, a party hat was the funnest way to go. They offer only preset swirl flavors based on the week but this week's specials were right up my alley with ube/matcha winning my heart. Black sesame/milk was the other option which I'm sure would have been equally good. For the fish, you get to choose a spread on the inside. I went with traditional red bean and really enjoyed it! Several friends went with custard and another with Nutella, we all enjoyed our choices very much! To top it off, we also ordered a couple taiyaki. One Oreo and one taro. The Oreo one was fun with a double stuffed Oreo baked right in like a Japanese style deep fried Oreo! The taro one was on the sweet side with the filling being more like halaya than just taro. It was still yummy but a little sweet for me. Overall, the fish texture was fun. The outside is super crisp like a delicious waffle but nice and chewy inside with the mochi. Definitely would welcome many a return trip when I'm in the area! read more

Somisomi brings an Asian twist to an American classic soft-serve ice cream and makes it feel like you're having it for the first time again. The biggest Asian heavy hitting flavors combined into one is an epic blend but swirl combos are in rotation so check in with the store to make sure they have the one you're looking for. The ice cream is housed in my favorite vessel, the taiyaki cone, a fish shaped cone that has a slight crunchy exterior and is soft and fluffy on the inside. You have many topping options to choose from so go with your tummy! It was my first time there but the staff were very patient and helpful as I struggled choosing my flavors and toppings! I've had Somi Somi at other locations multiple times, but this was my first time having it with Cookie Butter. One of my favorite ice cream treats in the Bay Area just became even better with this new flavor I haven't tried before. The soft serve was so consistently smooth and creamy that it was perfect. I had oreo crumbs sprinkled over the top of the soft serve it paired very well with the cookie butter. I also had an upside-down Taiyaki filled with nutella which perfectly complemented how sweet everything is. The batter had the perfect crunch with each bite coated with nutella. I believe the added macaron was pistachio flavored which is also one of my favorites. The only thing to look out for this location is how the parking is very inconsistent with street parking, but if you don't mind walking a bit from the parking garage, this place is great and has plenty of parking. Highly recommend checking this place out if you've never had it before! read more
7/6/21- I had to check out the store with the insanely long line out of the store. I have to say I was pleasantly surprised with the quality of ice cream! Another delicious, rich, and creamy treat to add to your list. // Milk & Sesame Swirl (cup) The ice cream is quite decadent and smooth! Especially for the price, I was surprised by the amount of ice cream given in a cup. The sesame was nice and nutty while the milk was smooth and creamy. The swirl was a great balance of both flavors! You can also order their popular taiyaki (fish-shaped waffles) to go with your ice cream if you'd like! // Real Strawberry Milk I had high hopes for this drink but it was average for me! I really loved the aesthetics of the glass bottle but the strawberry didn't have that fresh burst of flavor. It was quite mild and I had hoped for more strawberry fragrance. // Store ambience and experience Store was well lit and clean! Next to the ordering counter, you can see the workers make the taiyaki fresh. There was quite a lot of people in line so the ordering experience felt cramped but the overall wait time wasn't bad at all. Employees were nice and service was faster than I expected for 20 people in line! // Price and value The ice cream in a cup was $3.95 and the real strawberry milk was $5.95. The ice cream is definitely a great value because it was a large portion! I'd probably pass on the strawberry milk. Had to see what the hype was about at SomiSomi and I'm glad I did! Will be coming back to try their other flavors/swirl combinations. read more
Visited this location several times and there's always a line out the door, especially on a busy Sunday afternoon. Flavors today were their classic milk, ube, seasonal: pink guava, and cookies & cream. I got the usual upside down ahboong with the milk swirl and pink guava combination which seemed to be the most popular flavor at the moment. (The pink color was also super pretty..) The pink guava and milk combination was surprisingly delicious. Light, refreshing and fruity, yet creamy at the same time. They were so busy that they ran out of the ube flavor so for our other flavors we got the cookies and cream which was nice and not too sweet. All in all this spot is solid and I give the team of 5 working today kudos for being able to manage such a busy crowd while keeping a positive and friendly attitude. Keep up the great work! read more

First time here. I typically won't give a 5 star unless I've been somewhere twice or there was something outstanding my first visit that there was no denying 5 stars. My boys wanted taiyaki's and ice cream. So on Yelp I went. So here we are. It was my two boys, my daughter and her boyfriend. It was a Wednesday around 6:30PM. This place is nestled in with lots of other restaurants, residential and commercial buildings. Parking right outside Somi Somi not that easy to come by, glad they have a multi-level parking garage a block down. I noticed various stalls that offered electric charging stations. Walked over to Somi Somi and had to use the bathroom. Somi Somi doesn't have any so walked across the street to Peet's. Came back and my daughter and her boyfriend had arrived so we got into line. Place is brightly lit and so is their menu up above. They feature not only current menu but the 2 "special" flavors for the following week. Of course thats the flavor I wanted. Boo! So the menu describes how to order. 2 of us ordered taiyaki's. 2 of us ordered the matcha ube swirl. One ordered milk ice cream and had it topped with crushed oreo cookies. Another ordered ube and opted for cereal topping. Another ordered matcha an no topping. You are also given the option to top your dessert with either a mini macaroon or a slice of fresh strawberry. We all chose macaroons. $25 total!!!!! We walked across the way and enjoyed our treats in the shade and sat along a low wall. Lots of people walking by. Very reminiscent of a smaller scaled Santana Row. Especially the part that had a large patch of grass for kids and dogs to play. Reminded me of that grassy area in front of Maggiano's and Starbucks at Santana Row. This place was good. Really wish we had been there the week of the ube and black sesame swirl tho. No ice cream compares to this place. It's a huge hit with everyone I bring here. I rarely eat dairy, but all their ice cream is lactose free so a lot easier to digest with no compromise in flavor. I love Somi Somi! They always have a line out the door but still manage to get through efficiently. The ice cream menu changes every week with delicious combos. The matcha and ube swirl is super delicious- I highly recommend! And the upside is the best choice- you can choose a filling inside the fish waffle, with topping, and have a yummy dessert mess free. read more

How much is the taiyaki filling?
The taiyaki with filling goes 2 taiyakis for $3.95 and 5 for $7.95. No extra charge for filling and the taiyaki on the top of ice cream also comes with a filling if you'd like with no additional cost.
What's the difference between somisomi and uji time?
Uji Time is a Japanese company that has an icier soft cream texture. Their flavors are matcha, black sesame, tofu, and seasonal. SomiSomi is a Korean brand with creamier ice cream and they call their fish shaped taiyakis "ah boong". Their flavors…
How long is the wait?
Depends on the day and time you go of course. We went a couple weeks ago and it was a weekday around 5:00 PM and we waited around 30 minutes.
What is the best filling?
If you try out the basic mochi Taiyaki with no ice cream, consider getting cheddar. They add two cubes of cheese and it tastes like a grilled cheese sandwich! Nice savory change.
What is a good topping?
Nothing' just get strawberry! Sometimes the toppings can b stale
Are they ever going to have the milk tea or strawberry soft serve flavor?

Are they planning to have the infamous sesame flavor that everyone loves like in San Diego location?
They have black sesame, but it isn't in constant rotation. Each week they pick a different couple of flavors and flavor combos.
Is the soft serve lactose-free?
There was a sign that said they were lactose-free!
Any vegan options?
Unfortunately, there's no vegan options at this time. Except the milk flavor, all soft serve is lactose-free but not dairy-free.
Are they going to open up the Sul&Beans?
Eventually! They're definitely still working on it, but the sign is up so I'm hoping this summer will be the grand opening!!
