The value is decent if you ordering the taiyaki packs but I'm not sure if it worth the ice cream combo. It tastes good and is a cute photo, but I wouldn't do it again. There aren't many places to sit since there is construction and it's off to a corner, but I'm sure there will be once shake shack opens. (This doesn't affect my rating). I love how efficiently they've upgraded to self-checkout kiosks to allow the entire process to move quickly and make it comfortable for anybody to order. They are also really organized in managing crowds within the store, while making sure to also honor the fact that ice cream melts quickly and sorting customers according to what they ordered. I have brought so many tourists here and they are consistently enchanted by the darling presentation. The fish is so cute and the soft serve is such a beautifully ideal texture and consistency. My son continually talked about bringing me to SomiSomi. So while spending the weekend in Irvine for a swim meet, we visited the Spectrum Center for dinner. After a great meal at Silverlake Ramen, we headed to SomiSomi for dessert. We joined the long line that extended out the door and ordered the upside-down Ah-Boong with taro ice cream and a box of Taiyaki with various fillings. The people were nice and managed all the orders quite well. Seating however was sparse in that area, especially for the amount of people coming to the store. When we finally got to sit, everything was as tasty as they looked! My favorite is the custard filled Taiyaki. I enjoyed it all so much that I had to share the experience with my daughter. So I took her to the Glendale Galleria location. Same tasty treats without the line. But this store is now showing temporarily closed. I hope they reopen soon. Tip: We brought a box of Taiyaki home for my husband. Sadly the little fish shaped snacks didn't hold their crispy outer shell. But I found that a quick minute in the air fryer brought them back to their warm, fresh, crunchy state without compromising the yummy filling. :) read more

I didn't get that sense at all. The staff was really just going through the motions. The dessert itself was good. I ordered the Upside Down Ah-Boong. I chose to get Nutella filling and added extra Nutella for an additional charge. That went over Cookies and Cream Ice Cream and I chose to top it with Graham Cracker and Oreo Cookie Crumbs. The seating is very slim pickings inside. There was nice air conditioning inside especially for such a hot day. Outside, there was more seating which is nice at night, but during the day, there is not many spots with shade so you are in direct sunlight. We had Somisomi at The Spectrum last Saturday night before comedy at The Improv. There are two small screens at the entrance where you order. They are very low and create a significant backlog at the door as people try to figure out what they want and how the system works. Because there's nobody there to help people or answer their questions when ordering, you get a significant t bottleneck at the door as your very first impression when entering the store. Not good. While the flavor was good, as usual, the ice cream was rapidly melting within two minutes of receiving it, which created a terrible mess. They also serve taiyaki (waffles shaped like fish with filling inside, you can also choose different fillings including custard). They make it fresh right in front of you, and the ice cream is soft and the shape and aesthetics is always served perfectly :) Different locations sometimes serve their own special flavors! So far I have checked out the Koreatown and Irvine Spectrum location (there's 2 in Irvine!). The Ktown one has ube, matcha and oreo, and the Irvine spectrum one has strawberry. Don't know if I went on a good day or what but this location exceeded my expectations. The other one I went to where the Asian market is in that plaza needs to learn from this one. The waffle fish things were literally made perfect, and the people who made it were super friendly and fast despite the hella long line out the door on a Saturday. You do order from a kiosk thing and they call out your number which that seemed efficient and fast enough. The matcha didn't have a deep, rich flavor but it was refreshing and light (albeit a little too sweet in my opinion). My sister told me about the place for having really good taiyaki with ice cream. After lunch at Marufuku Ramen, my daughter and I came here for dessert. This location was located in a more obscure area, right at the back of Hurley, across from Cheesecake Factory. The map didn't was confusing and I was glad that I asked the security guard. Otherwise, I might be going in a circle trying to find the place. It has a very nice outdoor seating to enjoy the dessert. We were lucky to find a table opened once we ordered. The Ah-Boong (fish cone with ice-cream) was sold out when we got there, so I ordered the upside down Ah-Boong for my daughter. She loved it. In addition, I also got the 5 taiyaki: 2 custards, taro, nutella, and mint chocolate. Of all the fillings, we liked the custard filling the most. The ice cream was the disappointment, having a flavor I can only describe as neither coffee nor milk tea, and definitely not coffee milk tea. I love how the Oreo taiyaki isn't too sweet but still has that chocolately goodness to it. The matcha and guava swirl is a seasonal flavor (my assumption based on never seeing it before), and it was great! I was surprised that the matcha guava combination would taste so good. You can really taste the matcha, and the pink guava is so sweet and fresh. The food arrived very quickly after ordering. There isn't much seating inside other than the benches for waiting for your order, but there are a few tables outside.
