A great place to grab some unique desserts! Soft serve ice cream: I usually get the traditional milk flavor, but I also like the new pistachio flavor. It is a very creamy style that is several levels above your typical soft serve. Grill cakes in the shape of a fish: my favorite is with cheese, but I have family members that love it plain or with custard. Really, if you like the filling, you'll love the different versions. Tips 1. For the fishies: if you don't like it with too much filling, you can ask for half, like half cheese is perfect for me. 2. Yes you can get the soft serve inside the fish mouth (classic style), but the amazing fishies are not going to be hot, crispy, and as delicious.
Definitely less people than the Elk Grove location. When I went in it was actually empty. They had a pistachio / cookies and cream swirl that was delicious! Always a huge fan of somi somi wherever I go. Inside felt a bit smaller than usual but delicious overall. Only downside is that you can't sample the flavors.
Came in on a Saturday around 7pm. This place is open and very modern. It was clean. We ordered with the order kiosk. Ordered the fish with red bean upside down on matcha ice cream in a cup and the same fish with red bean upside down on ube/matcha swirl. Never had anything like this before but it was quite good. The matcha ice cream had a nice matcha flavor and the swirl with the ube was good too. The fish waffle was nicely crisp and with the red bean paste and ice cream mad a delightful experience. Would definitely was to return to try one of the other flavors.
I love fish waffles! And the waffles here did not disappoint, it was crispy with lots of filling options. The ube ice cream was delicious. I wished this place is closer to my house so I can get it more often.
I've been to Somi Somi plenty of times, but this was my first visit to this particular location--and it definitely lived up to my expectations. It's conveniently located in a plaza with a bunch of other shops, which makes it the perfect sweet stop after grabbing food nearby. I was picking up Panda Express and, of course, had to swing by Somi Somi right after. It's basically a must anytime I'm near one... even though I'm lactose intolerant lol. No regrets. This location is small and quaint, which I actually liked. When I stopped by on a Tuesday afternoon, there was only one employee working and no other customers in the shop. Despite being solo, the employee was kind, patient, and welcoming while taking our order. The setup is simple--no traditional seating, just long tables lined against the wall--but it works perfectly fine for a quick treat. As always, the soft serve was creamy and delicious. I ordered the matcha and ube swirl in an upside-down Ah-Boong with red bean filling, and it was absolutely amazing. The flavors were rich without being overwhelming, and the texture was smooth and perfectly swirled. It's consistently good every time I visit a Somi Somi, and this location was no exception. They also offer water cups & cold water, have one All Gender restroom available, and carry other options like milk and taiyaki to go. I haven't tried those at this location yet, but based on how consistent the brand is, I'm sure they're just as good as the other locations. Great area, great service, and great soft serve. I have zero complaints--just another reminder why Somi Somi is always worth the stop.
This is one of my go to dessert places for a sweet treat! The weekend evenings get packed sometimes with groups. I love the Nutella filled and custard filled Taiyaki's! They are made to order, they are so fresh and have a not too sweet and chewy mochi texture with a sort of light crunchy exterior. We ordered soft serve this time too, the Banana Pudding was so delicious, and Cookies and Cream is always a go to!
This location is near Sac City College, in a cute shopping center. This place has amazing soft serve ice cream and Taiyaki. On my most recent visit, they had a kiosk to order from. I only saw one employee there and it was a weekend. A group came in after I ordered. Soft serve orders are quickly served while Taiyaki orders take longer, especially if they're busy. The service was surprisingly quick for being a weekend.
Not my first time here. I've been here a few times and idk how I haven't written a review yet. I love somi somi and their soft serve ! Went here with my friends a couple days ago and i got the upside down ahboong with ube soft serve, red bean filling, graham cracker topping with a macaron on top. So so good, a very sweet treat but so worth it. Always love coming here!
This place is nice and cute. The people who work there are nice and helpful. The desserts are good. I ordered the milk shake strawberry it was not sweet but I'm sure there were no added sugar. Do I recommend here? Try it! I do recommend.
We arrived around 5:30pm on Saturday evening and there was only 1 person working behind the counter. She had to take order one at a time and made it for the customer; hence, there was a short line. We ordered upside down ahboong with cookies & cream and milk tea swirl and custard filling. We got our ice cream pretty quick. The milk tea flavor was weak (tasted more like milk) but the cookies & cream was good. The taiyaki was fresh so it still has crispy crust. The custard filling was yummy too! We wish that there were some tables to sit so we can enjoy the ice cream comfortably.

They allow for an open concept that gives you the opportunity to watch the process of your sweet treat being made as well as a variety of other savory options! The only thing I wish this location had more of was seating options. However, they provide a clean and bright establishment! They provide excellent service and are very efficient in providing quick and quality service! Check them Out!
Wanted Somi Somi and decided on Matcha with custard in a cup with fruity pebbles, sprinkles and a macaroon. Also ordered Ube in a cup with fruity pebbles, sprinkles and a macaroon. Ordering was super easy although much rather other with a person vs. on an iPad. Pickup was easy but did take a bit as only one person was working. The location was clean and luckily not very busy on a fairly warm night. We will be back.
Cute place! so good!! We got two upside down ahboong, the ube flavor was so good!! I'm glad we came, my bf got green tea and milk and i got ube and cookies n cream! We both did nutella fillings and it comes with your choice of toppings :) no seating :( Person working seemed nice, we opted to order at the kiosk. loved the taiyaki! Hope to come again!
Soft serve ice cream dreams! Very simple service process. You come in view the menu of flavs and choices. You use their self pay ordering system. I love the UBE with fruity pebbles upside down Taiyaki with custard. They give you a lot & the price is good. They do not have seating so be prepared to stand or sit in your car unless you live so close you drive home to enjoy. read more
Somi Somi A Korean style soft serve ice cream treat with Asian inspired flavors and also other cultural flavors like Horchata. Somi Somi was founded in K Town LA in 2016. They expanded operations with franchises across the state and nationwide. The soft serve style is cream is unique treat with Asian inspired flavors and a freshly made soft waffle like cone in the shape of a fish. Inside the fish is stuffed with your choice of spread: Nutella, red beam "sweet", sesame etc. To top it off you can select from some traditional Westernized toppings from cereal crumbs, crackers, etc. The Somi Somi is recently new to the 916 region. I'm a huge fan of Somisomi, didn't realize that they would also be in Sacramento. I've tried all of their San Diego locations. They had a couple new to us flavors this time, Horchata, that you could get blended with the Ube or a banana milk that you could get blended with the cookies and cream. My man and I got one of each and shared. Both were tasty, but a lot of preferences was the Ube with the Horchata. The flavor combination I did not know I needed in my life. I had two beefs with this Location. First father is not a single place to sit inside or outside. The other was that I thought it was a bit skimpy on the toppings. It was more of a light dusting, whereas other locations, I have been to really load them on. The girl that was working at the counter with super sweet and patient with me while I was changing my mind a couple times before finally ordering. I would come back to this location, but now at least I know I'll be eating ice cream in my car. read more

First time trying Somisomi, it was a cool experience. I love that they sell these fish warm and come filled with various items. I got the banana pudding ice cream. It was very tasty. There is no seats at this location but places available to stand and eat. You can watch them make everything in front of you. read more

Just tried the savory cheese taiyaki and OMG -- it needs to come with a bowl of tomato soup. The custard-filled taiyaki was super good too, with that perfect chewy mochi texture. Definitely best eaten fresh and warm. I also tried the seasonal banana pudding and it was good, especially with the Nutella and Biscoff topping. Great spot for a quick grab and go dessert. Do expect a one man band for staffing. They do great at managing the flow but lines do fluctuate from moderate to none at all. Parking is easy peasy and plenty more food and shopping in the plaza. read more

I came here on a late Sunday evening, and parking was pretty easy to find. Upon entering, the place was pretty clean. I placed my order at the kiosk and got the Ah Boong with Nutella filling, and Earl Gray and Cookies & Cream swirl, with sprinkles on top. It took a little while for our order to be ready since there was only one worker handling everything, they were doing their best. Definitely be patient if you visit when it's not busy. The dessert was delicious, and I'd definitely come back again! read more
Wish I didn't get the ube because the flavor was not my style (more nutty than the taste of ube) but I will be definitely back for more flavors. I came back once for the cookies n crème and earl grey, cookies n crème was too subtle imo like just slightly chocolatey and no interesting texture, but the earl grey was amazing. The taiyaki with custard filling was super good, it was crunchy outside and fluffy inside and the flavor of the custard was great. The people at front and the people making the order were kind and efficient. The place was slightly full at 9 pm on a Saturday. Bathroom and the whole area was clean and cute. read more

The taiyaki cone was ok. We came here on a Sunday afternoon and there was no crowd. There are no tables, just a platform near the wall where you can stand and eat. There was one person at the counter and he was ok, not super friendly but not mean or anything either. We got the ube taiyaki with red bean paste. It was ok. This is our favorite combination and we've had some amazing taiyaki in San Francisco. We thought the ube was not as strong as we like. The taiyaki cone was thicker than we usually like. The red bean paste was more powdery than a paste. Again, it wasn't bad, but it wasn't everything that we've come to associate with a taiyaki soft serve cone. read more

Now, I love Taiyaki and my dad loves ice cream, so this was the perfect middle ground! We came in on a very busy Sunday evening, but that did not slow them down at all! We had hardly ordered when our first upside down came out. I had Matcha and cookie swirl ice cream with a black sesame filled taiyaki that was SO PERFECT! The taiyaki was hot and crispy on the outside with a wonderful chew and marvelous filling! Both my husband and father had the Dalgona ice cream and they each loved their fillings, custard for my dad and red bean for my husband. We loved coming here, everything about it was fantastic! It was a cute, modern, clean shop that still managed to be welcoming and we cannot wait for next time! read more
I came here like a year ago but I had their ice cream. It was amazing so I came back for a second time before the New Year. I ordered the Hotteok Taiyaki but I unfortunately didn't like them. The Taiyaki's were so damn hot that I burned the upper roof of my mouth. So, I had to wait for them to cool down. However, the filling changes taste when it's cooled down. Also, the filling itself had way too much peanuts to where it overtook the cinnamon/brown sugar taste. Service wise was ok. The workers seemed overwhelmed with how busy it was. I'll just stick to the ice creams ones instead. read more

Where to even begin..?? If you're looking for outrageously affordable, DELICIOUS, and unique Taiyaki ice cream "creations" than this is the spot for you!! I'm 1000% sincere when I say that Somisomi might be THE most creative ice cream "experience" in Sacramento (or at minimum tied with Gunther's)! Located adjacent to Sac City College, Somisomi is in the Crocker Village shopping center that's off 24th St and a hair south of 'Curtis Park.' Crocker Village is a newer neighborhood, with freshly built "Brooklyn-style" homes and a plethora of cool food, coffee, and smoothie spots. This review is not detailing my first time at Somisomi, but rather my first time visiting as Yelp Elite! Depending on what time you arrive parking could be competitive out front. However there are plenty of spaces if you're willing to walk a little. This past Saturday night my wife and I were craving something sweet and decided to head down to Somisomi at around 9pm. Sac City College was finishing up a football game (we think?) so the line was out the door. However, the line moved quickly and eventually it was our turn to order. Ordering at Somisomi requires three steps: 1. Choose an ice cream "style." 2. Choose a soft style flavor. 3. Pick a filling for your Ahboong (fish shaped waffle cone). I went with an "upside-down Ahboong" for my "style," matcha-ube swirl for my ice cream flavor, and nutella for my Ahboong filling. My wife did the exact same but chose black sesame for her filling. What blows my mind is that Somisomi is RIDICULOUSLY affordable. At only $6 and change it's a STEAL for how creative, spontaneous, and lively it is getting the Somisomi experience! It's further proof that restaurants have a choice when it comes to how they price their menu items. Obviously there a million factors that go into pricing, and anyone who follows my reviews knows I'm not cheap nor am a "Karen." But it's refreshing when businesses are able to figure it out and provide fantastic food without ripping off the consumer. And Somisomi is rewarded for it!! As I mentioned before the line to this place was OUT THE DOOR. In addition, what's incredibly unique about Somisomi is getting a front row view of how they make their Ahboongs and ice cream creations. Similar to somewhere like Chipotle or Subway you can see up-close thru plexiglass how each order is made! And you can see the attention to detail each ice cream "creation" is met with! Staff are absolutely fabulous! From the cashier to the staffmembers who made our ice cream there is a level of care and pride in what they do that makes you want to keep coming back! And when I say each Taiyaki ice cream they create looks like artwork I am not exaggerating! A staffmember will call your name when it is your turn to pick up your ice cream. They'll ask you if you want toppings like cap'n crunch, fruity pebbles, and more. You also get the choice of a strawberry or macaron. They were out of strawberries so we went with macarons. You have to experience it yourself, but the waffle cone mixed with the ube-matcha ice cream and Nutella just hit DIFFERENTLY. I savored each bite and was genuinely sad when my ice cream was over (lol). I know Fall is approaching but I don't get how I've slept on this place for so long. Saturday was the first time I'd been here in two or so years! In a nutshell Somisomi is incredibly unique, reasonably priced, and fun for all ages (we saw teenagers, families with kids, and seniors there). 6/5 stars!! Just go and live out your Taiyaki ice cream dreams. read more

Less busy than the Elk Grove location, but about the same as Natomas. Located next to the nail salon along Crocker Drive, on the City Sports Club side. Never been before? Ice cream flavors rotate weekly! If you want strictly taiyaki (filled waffles), you can purchase them in quantities of 2 or 5, and filling options are red bean, nutella, custard, taro, cheddar, or Oreo. Sometimes they have featured fillings like mint Oreo or chestnut. If you want ice cream, you can get the soft serve by itself in a cup, as an ahboong with an open-mouthed taiyaki as the cone, or as an upside-down in a cup, topped with the taiyaki. Check their social media page (@somisomiicecream on IG) for Swirls of the Week flavors. Right now, from May 10-16, this Sacramento location is serving up Milk & Ube, Matcha & Horchata, and Cookies 'n Cream & Black Sesame. If you don't like these specific swirl combos, you can get individual flavors alone too. They also have strawberry milk and cold brew floats! This visit I got the Matcha + Horchata swirl as an upside down, with a Nutella-filled taiyaki, matcha powder, graham cracker powder, Cocoa Pebbles and a strawberry. Mom got the Black Sesame + Cookies 'n Cream swirl upside down, with a red bean taiyaki, coconut flakes, and a macaron. Yum! All waffles are made fresh in front of you! There is no available seating inside or outside, with only high tables along the wall to stand at. Self serve water cups and napkins, hand sanitzer and restroom. Until more businesses open up, you could either eat in the car or walk over to Five Guys, Panda, or Peets for outdoor tables/chairs. read more

Although this place has limited flavors, they are still very delicious. I got the upside down ahboong with the flavor cookies n cream and nutella filling for the toasty waffle. It was absolutely delicious. It tasted very fresh so I am intrigued to come back and try different flavors, fillings and styles too! read more

This place hits every single time. My only disdain is they DO NOT OFFER SAMPLES OF THE SOFT SERVE. Why? The world may never know. Like many reviewers already stated a lot of the soft serve options are lactose free, and the Taiyaki is always fresh and warm. Any filling you choose always oozes when you squeeze it. It's not very hard and crispy like a waffle cone, but more like a soft crepe pancake. They have flavors change all the time, personal favorite has always been the cookies and cream or "milk" flavor - which is basically a creamy vanilla. However as I stated you can't sample the soft serves. PLEASE CHANGE THIS. Twice now I got a flavor I didn't love and couldn't finish eating. Last time I was there I tried the banana milk which sounded so yummy! And it was. But i didn't love it enough to finish my cup. So I recommend staying on the safe side and only selecting a flavor you are positive you will love. Service is always friendly and eager to make your day with a sweet treat. When you are waiting for your order be sure to check out the toppings that you can select to put on top, they ask you this AFTER you order so don't freak if you didn't mention it before hand. A must try. And HUGE TIP - get the Taiyaki on top and pack it yourself with soft serve, you get way more bang for your buck as oppose to getting the Taiyaki already filled with the soft serve. ;) read more
SomiSomi is one of my favorite places to go after visiting Japan! I love the Taiyaki because they are made fresh as you order them. This is the same way that the street vendors in Japan make Taiyakis. SomiSomi has the traditional fillings like red bean, taro, and custard. They also have some fun ones: nutella, oreo, and cheddar (for people, who like different options). If you don't go for the Taiyaki, they also have a lots of other options: the viral soft serve with the fish cone of top, cold brew floats, and real strawberry milk. The Soft Serve Taiyaki cone is cute for the instagram, but it is not my personal favorite compared to all of their traditional Taiyaki offerings. I have tried everything except the real strawberry milk and I think SomiSomi is a great place to suit everyone's needs. read more

This was the first I have ever had Taiyaki and I'm hooked! How cute the that fish waffle eating my ice cream! No wonder they had a line out of the door when we arrived. But trust me it is well worth the wait. The ice cream is perfectly creamy and the combination I got was perfection. First off why is this place so adorable inside?! It's soooo cute! 2nd. The value!!! $6.95 for the ice cream and cookie thingy. I got the cookies and cream ice cream with the cookie filled with Nutella. Amazing! I then got Oreo on the sides. Soooo good! The girl working was so sweet! Will definitely come back! This is a family favorite. Having a few more traditional flavors and then horchata, matcha and ube as somi somi staples, the combinations are delicious. We usually get upside down ahboong with filling and a favorite soft serve flavor for a nice treat. There's no place to sit but there are a few place to stand around. read more
