Their classic milk is my favorite, but the cookies and cream, or Thai tea is also delicious. Somisomi is know for their boong uh ppang, or taiyaki and it's so delicious as well. They also do ah-boong, where they serve the soft serve in the taiyaki. Somisomi is a chain, but they have the best soft serve in town! This time I tried the cold brew float and the amount of soft serve and the quality of cold brew was great for just 5.95 (at the time of writing). There was only one employee working on the weekend. I've been a SomiSomi fan since they opened their very first locations in the Arcadia mall, so I was excited to see them branch out to Sacramento! I went with the Matcha x Milk swirl topped with Oreo crumbs and a strawberry. As a matcha lover, I did find the flavor really mild I prefer a more matcha-forward taste rather than rich, heavy creaminess. However, since they aren't a specialized matcha shop, it's still a decent option. I've noticed the soft serve isn't quite as premium as it used to be years ago. It melted incredibly fast( which might indicated mostly air ) and the flavor was lacking. Service was friendly and quick, there's no seating just a long bar table for people to stand. We came in late Saturday with 15 family members. I was afraid they'd be upset with 15 of us rolling in an hour before closing, but nope, they were friendly and helpful. They helped each of my family members not familiar with somi somi order their desserts. The works had a big smile and got out all our orders fast! Big props! As for the desserts, it was bomb! I'm gonna be honest with you. I was not able to finish my ice cream and neither was my granddaughter so if you're not a big ice cream eater, maybe ask them for half. The ice cream is so delicious. I cannot believe this place is around the corner from me and I have not been here sooner . If I lived in the Park, I would definitely be sending my kids over here for their daily. I want something. The problem for me was. There was nothing inside or outside. It's a blank empty space. Blank white walls. I initially couldn't tell if it was open or not. It was pretty barren. Entered. Easily ordered. Got the dessert. And ate there. There's a high table you can eat off of but it is extremely unbalanced. Slight touch and it starts rocking. Please fix that. We were greeted when we walked in and the cashier was very nice and was patient while my sister and I decided what we wanted to try. Stopped in for the first time last night after my daughter's soccer game! I'd been wanting to check out SomiSomi for some time. The menu is limited and the inside is pretty bare. I don't recall seeing any tables and I don't think I saw any art on the walls or decorations aside for their logo. We ordered the Cookies and Cream soft serve with Nutella Taiyaki and Ube soft serve. My daughter loved the Cookies and Cream and the Ube was very creamy and not overly sweet, which I loved. They have different toppings to choose from like Oreo crumbles and even fresh strawberries. They even have a cheddar Taiyaki which was very intriguing. I think I will need to check it out next time! As the store's patrons increased, she became more and more unfriendly and rather rude when interacting with my wife, friends and other customers. I was initially surprised to see only two employees working and still the service was pretty efficient, especially given how busy it was last Saturday around 5pm. I had never been to SomiSomi before and was excited to try their soft serve and fun looking waffle cone. I was impressed by the bright and inviting feel and very cute design. I found it interesting that they don't have any seating, just two long bar tops that you can stand at, I can understand why though. The menu is extremely easy to read and quickly decide what you want because there's only a few options, but enough for everyone to find something they like. I ordered their special milk tea and Thai tea swirl soft serve with their upside down goldfish-shaped waffle cone filled with custard (per recommendation of the cashier). My husband who is gluten free ordered their cold brew float also with the same soft serve flavor. While we waited, I noticed they have a small station up against the wall opposite the windows with napkins, disposable water cups, and a water dispenser - it's a nice touch! When our order was ready, our name was called and I was asked if I wanted any toppings. Right where you pick up your order, there's some toppings displayed and on the glass it also reads that you can choose between a macaron or a strawberry. I chose the graham cracker crumbs and strawberry. I was impressed at the serving size of soft serve especially for the reasonable price. It began melting a bit on the way home, but was very delicious and left me feeling full and satisfied. Nice to see another asian inspired dessert option in Natomas! We came right before closing one evening and it there was still a line. There was a wafting smell of fresh pancakes that lured us in. I tried the red bean filled fish shaped cone with the ube soft serve. My son enjoyed picking the toppings, but you can't really get too much since they roll off the soft serve. Upon entering, we weren't sure if they were open. The door was unlocked, but there were no workers to be seen and the way the inside is - with a long bar top table, and no chairs..it was odd. Felt empty and unfinished.. About a minute after we came in, 3 or 4 friendly workers came out to greet us, and our order was taken. It was really clean inside, with plenty of areas for standing to enjoy your treats. The cashier was very friendly and gave some recommendations on flavors that pair well. I chose the upside down ahboong with cookies & cream flavored soft serve and Nutella for the filling. It was packed inside but didn't take that long for ours to be ready. You get to add toppings when you pick yours up and I opened for the toasted coconut and graham cracker dust. Lastly you choose a strawberry or macaron for the garnish. The soft serve with the toppings was really good, kind of reminded texture wise of a frosty from Wendy's. I took the waffle off, stuffed it with soft serve and ate it like a ice cream sandwich. Living in Natomas, I love how they added a SomiSomi near me, as I'd always had to go to the one on Crocker. I got just the soft-serve without the fish and got the ube/red bean swirl. I was a huge fan of the use flavor, but not so much the red bean, although it did taste exactly like red bean. The thing I was most impressed with was the price! The soft-serve was such a big size and just $4.95 which is way better pricing than other ice-cream spots such as Coldstone's. I've never had problems with the service at SomiSomi. Hand off counter was full of crumbs. It was gross having to pick my ice cream up off it and hope non of the crumbs fell on me it was like a sea of crumbs. Ambiance is plain, standing seating only more of on the go place. Only down is all of the employees would touch the register with their gloves and not change them, proceeded to touch the fish pastries directly / making the food with the contaminated gloves. SomiSomi Natomas is now open between Rubio's and Ttobongee Chicken and Mongolian Wok by Regal theaters (Truxel Rd). A great addition to the area -- the next nearest locations are Sacramento (Crocker Drive by Sac City College) and Elk Grove (Elk Grove Blvd near Olive Garden). Parking is as expected for that area, especially with the new Tsukiji AYCE that also opened there. The setup reminds me more of the Elk Grove location where the counter is immediately close to the entrance. None of the Sacramento area locations have any indoor seating. Self-serve water cups and napkins. There are a few tables outside, but you can also use the tables/benches near the theater too. Service was great, and wait times weren't long at all. Flavors change weekly and do vary from location to location. The week that I went in (twice), the swirl combos available were matcha/guava, and ube/cookies & cream. You can also get them in single flavors. The traditional menu item is the ah-boong which is where the sweet-filled, crispy fish-shaped pancake taiyaki acts as the cone, and the soft serve is inside the cup. I prefer the "upside-down" which is the soft serve in a cup then the taiyaki is upside down. You can also get taiyaki by themselves (note that this is the only way to get Oreo or Cheddar fillings) in either quantities of 2 or 5, or just soft serve in a cup without taiyaki. First, choose your style; then choose your soft serve flavor; then choose your taiyaki filling (taro, red bean, Nutella, or custard). These are made hot and fresh! On my first visit, I got the matcha/guava upside down with Nutella taiyaki. Lots of toppings to choose from like coconut or Biscoff cookie crumbles, but I usually stick to matcha powder, fruity pebbles, cap'n crunch, and either the macaron or strawberry. They also had cute compostable colorful branded spoons! This cup was hefty and well worth it! On my second visit, I got straight-up guava soft serve in a cup. It is one of the seasonal summer flavors (mango is available at other shops), limited time. The current swirls as of 8/1/23 are matcha/ube and cookies and cream/guava. This cup minus the taiyaki was just right and such a pretty pink. My sweet tooth and dessert stomach will be back soon! My friends and I came by after a movie on Monday (5/26), just looking for a little dessert to end the night. It was my first time trying Somi Somi and sadly, it's most likely going to be my last if their horrible customer service continues. We were so excited to try but when we walked in, I instantly felt super uncomfortable. We were met with glares from the staff like our presence was an inconvenience to them. The person at the register was nice enough, so no serious complaints there, BUT the staff member behind the counter handling the food? SO rude. Only one of them had a name tag, but of course the rude one didn't wear a name tag. While waiting for our separate orders, we had a quick (and just plain unpleasant) interaction with the person making the food behind the counter. The tone in their voice and eye rolls made it evident that we clearly were not welcomed. It wasn't just us, either. More people came in after us and they definitely treated them as if they were an inconvenience as well. At that point, my friend and I immediately glanced at each other and decided to walk further away. I asked another friend if that was the same person who gave him an attitude the week before, and yup. Same person. We honestly wanted to give this place a shot despite his warning, but here we are.. if the staff clearly doesn't want customers coming in after the movies, maybe just close early? Don't stay open and make people feel bad for showing up way before closing. It's unfortunate, because the location right next to the theater is perfect. But service like this?
