This place is amazing. I was surprised to find such a good place in this little town. We got the spring rolls for appetizer and they were fresh and crunchy. I really liked the fact that they have rice and egg noodles. We got a pho soup and 2 noodle dishes. We were all very happy with our dishes. The spiciness was a little off. My two was a little too spice, the other 2 and 3 dishes were apparently not hot enough but that doesn't mean the food was not good. Portions were just perfect. On our way from Portland to Seattle, we needed to find a place to stop for lunch. We put in our usual search terms for Thai and didn't know what we would find, but up popped Somsiri Thai in Chehalus, Washington. The restaurant is decorated in bright colors and the first thing you notice is that the menus are printed off inside of old record albums! I loved it! Mine was South Pacific, which caused me to hum show tunes for the rest of the trip. I ordered the White River Noodle and my husband ordered Lava Curry. They brought us water in a big decorative decanter, which I also loved. I like it when I don't have to worry about whether or not my water will be kept filled - especially when eating Thai food! My husband's curry arrived, looking amazing. He said it was the most complex and had the best depth of flavor of any curry he has ever eaten! It had chicken, bell peppers, bamboo shoots and basil. He went with heat #4, which was plenty hot for him. He also liked that it had the option of brown rice. My White River Noodles were also amazing. Full of flavor and richness. A-OK but I'm still a fan! Routine check in's on how you're doing with your meal etc was not an emphases in their service. IF they did - I would have tipped more (but I don't tip less than 20%). We were only given one glass of water which was not refilled. Note that if you order drinks like Thai Ice Tea or Thai Ice Coffee etc - there isn't a refill. You'd have to pay for another order. SO, please don't be shy if you want more drinks - just flag one of the servers down. If you don't, you'll be waiting for a while. Taste: Appetizer: We love their Crab Delight - the texture with the sweet plum sauce goes very well together. The crab mix inside is partnered with cream cheese - which works very well. Dish: Orange Chicken - Just a heads up...this is not your typical orange chicken you'd find in Panda Express or other fast food joints. Their orange chicken is more like chicken broccoli dishes. It's a boiled dish soup with 70 % brocolli/soup and only 30 % or less on the boiled chicken. It's an okay dish. Pros: - Descent. They are not small servings. - Taste is average/good. No, you won't disappointed but you won't be overly impressed. - Pho' is good (including their tofu Pho) Cons: - Somsiri is just an average Thai location. NO - it's not horrible. The customer service, atmosphere and cost contributes to that statement. If there is a Con I could really pin-point with my experience there - it would be the last check out. The gentlemen at the register did not acknowledge me standing there waiting to pay my bill after I said "Hello". He waited till he was completely done with what he was doing/sorting before he looked up to assist me. Desert: - Unknown The final question is: Would I come back? Yes, why not. While driving down to Portland from Seattle we decided to find some dinner and discovered a Thai restaurant seemingly in the middle of nowhere in Chehalis. The reviews looked promising, so we decided to check it out. We started with 2 appetizers: Spring Rolls and Crab Delight. Both were served with a plum sauce. The spring rolls were fairly pedestrian in my opinion, not bad but not great either. The crab delight was on par with what I have had at other Thai restaurants, though they still seemed to be a step down from what I was used to. Overall the apps were good but not amazing. We ordered 2 main dishes: Basket of the Sea and Yellow Pineapple Fried Rice. I love seafood specialty dishes, and the Basket of the Sea seemed to be the feature for Somsiri. It contained shrimp, squid, salmon, and mussels, mixed with cabbage, spinach, red curry paste, coconut, and egg. It was served in a bowl in foil, giving it the appearance of a foil basket. It was a decent dish and had a nice flavor, but again it wasn't exceptional. The seafood didn't taste very fresh at all, and I felt like the secret to the dish was more around chili paste than it was around melding flavors. It was definitely filling, but it left a lot to be desired. The Yellow Pineapple Fried Rice was better in my opinion, but it was not to the same level as other pineapple fried rice I have eaten elsewhere. Somsiri's version consisted of pineapple, yellow curry powder, raisins, cashews, white onions, peas, and carrots. It did have a nice flavor that was much more balanced than the Basket of the Sea, and it did also pair nicely with the Basket of the Sea (though you did lose much of the flavor complexity at that point). The prices were in line with most sit down Thai restaurants I have eaten at in the Pacific NW. The food was very fresh and came in very nice portions. The service was very minimal, which isn't necessarily a bad thing, but it wasn't very memorable either. The food was decent but not exceptional. Overall my experience was average, meaning I wouldn't go out of my way to visit Somsiri again, but I wouldn't avoid it either if I was in the area and looking for dinner. read more

This place is an absolute godsend in Lewis county, magical land of bad bar food and worse service. Last night was the third time I've been there, and they accommodated my large party with ease and grace. The food was fantastic, Tom kah soup being the star player of the evening. The service was wonderful, and considering our group was of 18, the wait wasn't that bad. I cannot recommend this place enough! One tip: their 5 star rating system is a little heavy handed. I probably would have given more stars if we didn't have to wait so long for our meals. My mom and i both got phad Thais which were good. Good enough to have waited 40 minutes for? No. We also ordered 2 Thai ice teas that we never received which we then were charged for. They were fine with removing them from our bill and did so gracefully. Well, we are still looking for good fresh Thai food. This is ok if you just gotta have your Thai fix but when you've had better just "ok" is hard to live with. Also the interior of the joint is not inviting. There was actually a workout machine in the hallway to the yucky bathroom. The guy who waited on us had what looked like his normal hang around home watching tv or doing car repair clothes. I was in Chehalis for a overnight work trip and my co-worker and I were excited to try this place as it had 4/5 stars on yelp. The atmosphere of this restaurant gives a old school vibe and the service was great, but the food could have been better. The menu had a lot of options, which was exciting. The sweet and sour sauce was ok but not as good as other restaurants in the area. 4/5 We shared a plate of pad Thai and basil fried rice, and while they weren't bad, they were a little bland which was disappointing. The pad Thai tasted...odd. Not off, but the flavor just wasn't on point for me. At least the food came out hot, which tells me out was fresh.
