Okay so there are good things and bad things about this restaurant. 1st off, the food is 5 stars. One of the best Thai places i have ever had. I have gotten many dishes here, and I love their peanut sauce. Reasonably priced as well. The bad - They are very rarely open. You have to be a true fan to eat here. Honestly it is very frustrating. Many times you can go there and they will be closed even when the sign says open. Also they are closed on Tuesdays which is hard to remember. The service is also hit and miss. There is a young girl there who seems like she is the teenage daughter who wishes she didn't work there. She always looks irritated, rolls her eyes, occasionally has rude remarks, just overall a bad waitress. However I think this is a bit amusing, and it doesn't really bother me. She's not mean she just always seems irritated. She's obviously very young and is working there only because her parents make her. The other waitresses are fine. If you are looking for a high end classy place with A+ service this is not your place. The decor is also pretty weird and doesn't match but I it's guess unique? I later found out why they are often closed - It is a family owned and operated restaurant. The family lives in Seattle, and has another restaurant with the same name in Capitol Hill area of Seattle. Since all the employees are family and they have such a long commute I can understand why they just close the restaurant anytime something comes up. This is hands down the BEST THAI FOOD I've ever had! I moved from Seattle to the country a year and a half ago. Chehalis is the closest 'city' to me. I had driven by Somsiri multiple times but was usually on a different mission than dining. My boyfriend and I stopped in one day to see if it was any good. Admittedly I wasn't expecting much due to it being in Chehalis surrounded by pubs and greasy spoon establishments. I was blown away! The food is FANTASTIC and full of flavor. They actually have a 'real' star rating that caters to my expectations of what the rating in spiciness should be. I've been there several times since and each time it does not disappoint. They also have a decent Pho' which is impossible to find anywhere in the local area before Olympia. I'm not sure I will enjoy Thai food anywhere else after experiencing Somsiri. The only negative I have is that sometimes they are so busy the service isn't the best. If you can be patient, it is definitely worth the wait!! read more

This place is absolutely charming. Everything we ordered was delicious- I have to say one of the first things I notice about such a small place is the freshness of the oil - and the tofu satay and spring rolls were delicate and fresh tasting. We had 3 vegetable dishes, and again, the vegetables were carefully cut and not cooked too long, another indication of wonderful preparation. I also really appreciated their attention to detail and presentation. The menus were in old album covers- really fun- the decor was very creative-- cute dishes for the kids. I admit to not being knowledgeable about Thai cuisine, but it's hard to believe there are many restaurants that offer such a wide variety of good-tasting food at decent prices like Somsiri Thai does. I just ate a plate of Yellow Pineapple chicken with fried rice and it was outstanding. Others have mentioned that it's wise to aim low on the desired spice level and I agree. My dish came with a two-star "heat rating" and it was definitelty hot enough for me (a spice lightweight). It's been years since I'd eaten here, mostly because their operating days have been very inconsistent and the three or four previous times I went to Somsiri Thai for lunch, it was closed. That's the only flaw I can think of. Otherwise, the dozens of entrees are generally in the $10-15 range with good portions of food every bit as delicious today as it was the two or three earlier times I'd dined there a few years ago. The restaurant is not in the greatest of locations and is rather smallish, but it's nicely and unpretentiously decorated inside. It's a casual but clean environment, good for lunch or a date, and the album covers framing the menus are a hoot. Our waitress was a very nice young lady who was the essence of Thai grace. The owners are Buddhists and related tracts that make for interesting reading are available near the register. One note: Whoever is waiting WILL be the only front staff on the floor and it can get a little slow when it's busy, so bring some patience with your appetite. Both will be rewarded greatly. While there are more good Asian restaurants in Centralia-Chehalis than one might expect (but PLEASE can we get just one Italian place here???), Somsiri Thai is the best of them and always a treat when it's open. Had the beef pineapple curry 2*. Was just the right heat. Mildly spicy and sweet. The Thai iced tea was absolutely fabulous. I will definetly order that the next time we come here. The spring rolls are good but standard fare. The sesame eggplant was crispy breaded and fried. Very delicious. But if you don't have anywhere too pressing to be after your meal, I would definetly recommend this place read more

We stopped on our way home from a weekend in Bend Oregon. Traffic was terrible so we yelped close by eating spots and Somsiri Thai came up. My fiancé had Red Curry, his typical go to Thai meal. His dish was a bit more spicy then his usual 2 star. I had the Cashew Yakisobi chicken noodles. I usually get one star and mine was also a bit more spicy but good. Music was GREAT! We love 70's folk and that is what was playing during our dinner. Good Thai. We would stop again if we were in the area. read more

I'm very hesitant to give a 5 star rating after just 2 visits, but both have far exceeded my expectations. My favorite dish I always get is the Pad Thai. It was the very first thing I ordered when I first tried Thai and while I have tried many other dishes I'm always left wishing I had ordered Pad Thai. Anyway, their is near perfect. The noodles aren't too long which makes them very easy to eat. So far 2/2+ stars has been the perfect amount of spice. The food portions are large and 4 level spice can be very spicy. Overall, the service was quick and prompt, food is delicious, large portions and surprisingly not on the pricey side. My wife and I tried Somsiri Thai for the first time yesterday (12/13/12) on a bit of a whim. We're definitely not food snobs, so you're getting a fairly blue-collar assessment here and we were totally impressed. I had the Yellow Pineapple Fried Rice (sans white onions) and it was EXCELLENT. Really enjoyed the raisins and cashews along with the peas and carrots mixed in with chicken over the rice and flavored with curry. Asked for a 1-2 level of spiciness (nice that you can choose) and it was perfect: Spicy, but not a five-alarm fire with every bite. My wife had the Showering Rama and loved the peanut sauce (something she's always liked about Thai food) set in a separate bowl of mixed vegetables and chicken. Also terrific. She went with a "0" spiciness setting and it was just right for her. You can choose between chicken, beef, shrimp, tofu or soy with your entrees, BTW, and only one of the 79 menu items is priced higher than $9.99. The food portions are large enough that you'll want to box some up for a second meal...quite generous for the price. The only reason I rated Somsiri Thai a 4 instead of a 5 is that Pat, the hostess/waitress who is half-owner with chef husband Peter, is the only server on the floor and you may need a little patience in getting your order if there are more than a few people there. Given the quality of food, the nice atmosphere plus Pat's own graciousness (she's a nice Thai lady who really works hard at making sure you're happy), the wait is MORE than worth it, but I wanted to be honest. I can't wait until lunch to finish my Yellow Pineapple Fried Rice (don't think it would work well for breakfast) and we'll DEFINITELY go there again. Two thumbs up! read more

I would give 3.5 stars if I could...which is good for me. Spring and summer rolls=perfection! We'll be back just based on those. Pad Thai (I always order this on a first visit to a Thai place) was pretty good, had a homemade twist. Mr. had the cashew somethingoranother and it was tasty as well. Tom ka next time. Very busy, obviously family run, decent service. Cute little separate rooms for larger parties, decanters of water is a plus and super cute fun cups for the kids to drink out of. Passing through Chehalis and was craving some Thai Food. Walked in around 8 on a Friday night. Wasn't very busy, maybe 4 tables total. Many options looked good but I got the #56 with shrimp and also added peanut sauce. My husband ordered the orange chicken. I was amazed at how fast our food came out to us! Maybe 7 min total waiting time? I know it was cooked fresh though. Food was so delicious and filling; we took our left-overs to-go. Shrimp was large, flavorful and fresh, not chewy. The service is very friendly and although seemingly understaffed, they hold their own and move fast. Came here on a whim (we stayed at Grey Wolf but didn't feel like eating the buffet) and couldn't have been more pleased! The food was very delicious and the lady who worked there was so nice to us. We had Tom Yum soup (great seasoning, a bit too salty but good). Pad Thai (pretty authentic and tasty), Pad Kee Mao (good), Basil Fried Rice with seafood (good), Papaya Salad (spicy but good). Chicken pad thai had a heavy peanut sauce flavor I really prefer. The laarb gai salad was very fresh....probably one of the better larb I've had. Traveling North on I-5 we looked up a new spot to try on Yelp. Fun menus made from old record album jackets and the Beatles welcomed us to this small town authentic thai bistro. Ordered Pad Thai Chicken a classic dish done to perfection my wife and 14 year old easily split that dish with a 2 of 5 on the spice meter, Tom KA Shrimp Best We've had. I went with Thai Beef Salad and it was amazing. Beef was quality steak with a Smokey sear that danced on my tongue with fresh mint, lime, onion and heat. I took it up a notch on spice 3 of 5 wow ! the main course I ordered the Showering Noodle with Chicken... peanut sauce perfect on a bed of Spinach ... We eat here monthly as a family and love not only the food, but the friendly and timely service as well as the ambience. My personal menu favorites are the tasty Tom Kha soup along with the spring rolls with peanut sauce. The fresh mint lingers after each bite . I would have given them 5 stars but you never know when they are opened. I went on a Friday night at 6:30 closed. I reached their restaurant after closing hour but they obliged to take my orders. Later when I said thanks, they replied "customer comes first" for us. Customer Beware! Do not order takeout food from this place! The beef salad I just ordered was made with barely cooked gristle that even my dog refused to eat. The shrimp soup contained quantities of severable inedible ingredients such as hard pieces of bamboo and ginger. Had these items been served to us at a table in the restaurant, we certainly would have sent them back to the kitchen. Not possible here at home, however, and judging from the rave reviews here about their food, I can only guess that the cook probably recognizes his/her takeout customer as a good way to dispose of any unusable inedible food on hand. read more
