The food wasn't terrible my only issue is the options of food. For someone who has gestational diabetes my wife didn't have any type of options food wise. They don't offer sugar free anything, and the choices don't have any wiggle to benefit those with diabetes. I would love to see more healthy options or other options provided for those who may need them. Service was good as always! read more

It took almost 3 years for me to come back here. This time was for dinner as opposed to lunch. First impressions is that I will not come back for dinner again. Way too pricey for what you get. The food did not rise above a 3 star level for any of us. $25 for a cool looking, very small flight of alcohol at 3 sips each for 3 shot glasses worth with a giant ice cube. $13.50 for a premixed salad that was just ok. Burger was ok. Steak, $30. Tender but unseasoned. Buffalo chicken sandwich, not served warm let alone hot. Poutine had an interesting spin on it. Not bad but they are still not using curds (the correct way), maybe due to price. But a good dish nonetheless as an appy with brisket and green onions. The fries here are delicious, I will say that. Very crispy. The restaurant is cutesy but for Xmas time, not busy at all. I thought it would be. This location is prime and it was a Thurs night. Our server, Aiden was super sweet. Our waters ran dry though, early. Once our bill was paid, we never saw him again even for a water refill. Parched! We've been coming here for years. But I have to admit there is always something that is upsetting. My best friend and I stopped by after our facials (this happens about every 6 weeks) at lunch on Wine Wednesday like we have for 3 years at 1:30 and ordered a bottle of wine, our waitress informed us that 1/2 price doesn't start till 3:00. She then says she will go inside and check-and I order a very overpriced bottle of Rose as usually. She returns and says no. I explain that we always do this and so did the table next to us and across from us. She then said that's not true because SHE is the owner!! Haha who did she ask?? Probably the trendiest, cutest spot to eat in Bakersfield! Last time we were in town in September, Sonder had a limited menu as part of their initial opening so we decided to wait a bit to try it out. This go around, we were looking for a brunch spot and remembered Sonder so decided to try it out. So glad we did because it was delicious! The brunch menu includes a little more in addition to their regular menu filled with charcuterie boards, bruschetta boards and sandwiches. I got the biscuits and gravy and was very happy. The biscuits were hearty with a delicious gravy smothered on top. I also added eggs to the plate for $2 extra. The BF and fam had the chicken and waffles. The chicken was cooked to perfection in a light but crispy batter. Rather than traditional waffles, the dish was served with small little pancake puffs that you can also order on the menu. These were really good. They have a great texture and sweetness. The atmosphere inside and outside were great. The decor is beautiful with table seating as well as some couches. There is a bar and the drink menu looked amazing with lots of unique cocktails (many with egg white!) We will definitely be back for a drink. Service was friendly. The live bands are almost always a greater distraction than they are entertaining. Even sitting towards the back it was still difficult to have a conversation. The food was overly salted and a complete let down. The service was non-attentive for the amount of servers standing around talking to each other. Save your money and go somewhere else. read more

WOW and WOW again. What a beautiful, relaxing, spacious restaurant. The food was delicious, I had the Cubano sandwich and the rest of my party had burgers. They loved the buns, the meat was cooked just right and full of flavor. My Cubano was amazing, pork belly sliced thin, pickles, mustard and the bread, oh so good. I can't wait to return to try another dish, not sure what yet. Maybe bruschetta or a meat and cheese tray. Everything looked so good and I plan on having Cheesecake next time also. Okay, let's start with the bad and we will go up from there. It wasn't all bad. This was our first time at the restaurant and it is still fairly new so I have kept that in mind. It was a Friday night at 7pm so we sat on the patio to avoid an inside table wait. It was hot at first but we cooled down with the fans and misters. Service was SLOW. Only two people working a crowded patio with one guy taking 98% of the load. He happened to be our waiter. It took forever to get water, then our drinks, and I had to flag him down to take our order. I did feel bad but I was starting to get hangry. After looking at other reviews my husband was eager to try the loaded fries. He ordered them without green onions. They came without green onions. Always a plus. BUT they were tasteless. Both of us were expecting more from the gravy. Now if you got a bite with the meat then you had flavor. Other than that the fries and gravey were bland and greasy. Maybe we just needed to pre drink more to enjoy them. HA. So on to the good. My drink was delish as were my shrimp tacos. The shrimp tacos had so much flavor. I will get them again. Yes, we are willing to give this place another try. AND, our waiter did reconize how slow he was and thanked us for hanging in there with him. That is always so nice. I wish I remembered his name to give him props on here. We have eaten here multiple times before and it has always been good. No complaints. But tonight they held a dinner for our sons football team(s)...The food was amazing. Beware of this place! If you are in a party of eight or more you are subject to 20% gratuity. I don't mind tipping for good service, but when you have lousy service and have to pay 20% it really takes the wind out of your dining experience. I do not recommend this place not only because the slow service, but the disposition of the employees. It almost seemed like since they were getting automatic gratuity they weren't going to give their full attention to our party. I must say my burger was not bad at all. Came here for a quick drink. Spoke to the bartender to get a suggestion on a cocktail. He was very informative and took the time to explain a few of their craft cocktails. I opted for the Watermelon Margarita and asked for a spicy version. I can't say enough about the taste, quality and freshness of this drink. It was amazing with the perfect amount of heat! My friend had the Lavender Lemon Drop and it was just as delicious. There are several interesting cocktails to choose from. New place in town. We arrived during the soft opening period. We initially noted the limited menu, but a not explained it will expand in September. Cocktail menu was interesting. The drinks were made with moderate care. I thought overall the menu was too fruity and non-traditional. An old fashioned would be nice. Food looked ok. The poutine had a bit too much protein for my taste. Gravy was good. I think smaller crisper fries and actual cheese curds would benefit the dish Service sucked. I was cutting them a lot of slack. After 35min and three promises from the bartender that our food was on the way, we gave up and left. Kevin the assistant gm promised to comp our next meal. Not sure how we'll get that since he didn't give us a card or anything. We'll probably give them a month or two to sort out all the screw ups before we return. I'm not counting on Kevin or whatever his name was keeping his promise. Decor was nice. Inside was definitely cleaner than the old spot. The outside kinda looked faux hipster with yard games, but it's about the best you can hope for in Bako. The bar was a bit messy. The verdict is we'll wait a good little bit before we return. We are new to Bakersfield - I was asked to choose a restaurant in town to reunite with an old friend, my wife was told about Sonders from her girlfriend so we decided to give it a try on a Saturday evening. Upon arrival we were greeted by a friendly associate who asked about our reservation, he gave us an option of a few different tables to choose from which was nice. Our server was a young lady who was so kind and genuine always making sure we had what we needed. We started with appetizers and ordered the charcuterie board and brussels sprouts with roasted pork belly - they were both Fantastic !! My wife told me the charcuterie board may have been the best she ever had (we have been to many Winery's and shared a lot of them). For dinner we shared the bone in pork chop with mashed potatoes and veggies and again Fantastic !! The Manager came to our table a kind lady sorry didn't catch her name, she was so sweet thanking us for being a first time customer. There were two guys playing music, one on a violin and the other on an acoustic guitar they sounded amazing playing fun music to enjoy in the background. I love the menu here and the Wine Wednesday specials are awesome. If you go, and you should, sit in the bar. If you can't get service at the bar, don't stay. For whatever reason I have yet to understand, if you sit in the dining room your service will be horrible. I repeat, horrible. For example, we arrived on a Saturday at 4:15 for an early dinner. Dining room is mostly empty with only 2 tables occupied. Host asks us if we have a reservation. Huh? Your dining room is empty. Whatever, we say no, she gathers menus and takes us to a table. We now sit in the mostly empty restaurant for 15 minutes before a server comes by and greets the table seated after us, then comes to us. The servers are just not on the floor serving tables. They stand in small groups talking to each other, and you're left desperately trying to make eye contact with anyone who can help you. This is not unusual, but every time we've tried the dining room. Food is fantastic, but order at the bar. Bar staff are on point. read more

Went for dinner last night at 7:45pm. Waited for 5 mins for the hostess/ manager/ employees/any living person to greet me at the door. Finally was greeted, she let me know there is a 30 min wait time, so the person took down my name and cellphone on their ipad restaurant system, and said they would text us when it's ready. We waited in the car, since the girl said they would text us. Right, who wouldn't do that? 8:30pm was wondering what was taking so long since all the people waiting outside already got seated. No one called or texted us! Waited another 5 min to be greeted at the door. The girl who took my name was walking around on the phone, ignoring me again. Finally was greeted, let them know I've been waiting 45 minutes for a table, she said my name was never recorded. Finally was seated. SOLUTION: retraining on how to greet customers and good ol pen and paper. Do it Sonder. Consistently bad service everytime I go to this place. Second time, no more! Never again. read more

Rating is for the bar only as the kitchen was closed already when I decided to check the place out (at about 9:30 pm - on a Monday night- just for reference- dont judge me haha.. my kid is at grandma's for the first time in a minute!) The prices were a bit on the higher side, but the bartender did make the drinks fairly strong and the service was fast and friendly.. We decided to try this place after hearing good things about it, and it is relatively near where we live. The restaurant's ambiance is nice and intimate, great place to catch up with friends. The food and service, however, are a different story. The food wasn't anything special that we would go back for yet it took over an hour for our table's entrees (group of 5) to come out (the restaurant wasn't too busy that day either). We gave the restaurant the benefit of the doubt and decided to try it again after a few months (mostly because some friends wanted to try it). We had the same experience with the second visit. It was not too busy, but still had to wait over 45 minutes for sub-par food. We likely will not be visiting this restaurant again as there are other better options in town. read more
