My mom, my sister and myself were seated right away surprisingly because it was a Sunday afternoon. The chairs are very uncomfortable and the atmosphere was a little loud. The place is nice with cute decor. We ordered a mimosa flight and our food. We were served water during our wait. After 10 minutes our server came back and told us that they were out of mimosa glasses and it would be a 5 minute wait. 15 minutes later we received our food. The food looked delicious and well presented. It was all cold. My eggs, bacon and toast were cold. It tasted good, just cold. We were about done with our food when they finally brought out our mimosas. We were already full and ready to go so we cancelled them. We were never asked if we needed refills (for our water), never asked if we wanted anything else to drink, or how our meal was. When I got home and told my husband, he told me that he had heard they were racist. I don't want to accuse anyone of being racist, but I thought it was coincidental. read more

The hostess wasn't that friendly and basically threw us our menus, and it took about 15 minutes for a server to come to our table. But once our server came, our experience was amazing and it made up for the weird beginning! Hannah did such a great job checking in on us once food started coming out. We got shrimp tacos and filet tacos, which were both INCREDIBLE! We also got a side of sweet potatoes fries with ranch. To end the night, we ordered the pizookie which was definitely the highlight of my meal. I highly recommend the drink menu as well! Our experience at Sonder was decent. The place looked terrific. Service was alright. The food mostly tasted good. There was no standout entree that anyone in our party of 7 ordered, though. Bruschetta did not taste fresh. We chose four different kinds, but all were underwhelming. My Sonder Burger was good, but overpriced compared to other burger places in town. I don't mind paying more for a good burger, but it has to taste a lot better to justify the much higher price. Someday, we will return to give them another chance to impress. I was looking forward to finally getting to have dinner with my friends at this place. Bruschetta--very good!! The rest is not so good. Some of us ordered steak dinners. A friend on my left... Perfect order to her liking. Friend on my right... We had the exact same order. Unfortunately, our steak was not exactly what we expected, which was medium-well; instead, ours was medium-rare. We sent it back to have the steak cooked to medium. My friend's steak was perfect to her liking; mine, unfortunately, was still rare. (I prefer steak with very little pink.). Our server was very pleasant. offered to take it back for a second time, have new steak prepared, or remove it from the check. I opted for a container to go (I would have finished cooking it at home for breakfast or lunch); however, after a long time of having such a plate in front of me, I called our server and asked her to remove it since it didn't get packaged to go (it was grossing me out). Our server was very kind to take it back (it was taken off my check). Would I recommend this place?? yes!! Despite my experience, we will return; however, we will request a more suitable table and order something totally different. There is a good variety. I hope next time is a much better experience. I really love this adorable little restaurant and bar! They have an awesome drink and food menu! Last night my Moscow mules were sooooooooooo good I probably enjoyed two more than should lol. Last night I ordered the pumpkin curry and it was seriously unbelievably delicious. I was surprised how good it was I enjoyed every bite. It's really fun playing the life sized jenga game with friends while have drinks! The inside is really nicely decorated and comfortable and the outside patio area is a good size to sit outside with family and friends! The servers were fast in bringing the menu and glasses of water. However, they made less and less contact as the night continued. My cousin ordered the fettuccini alfredo, and I ordered a caeser salad. My cousin was not happy with her pasta and could not finish it due to it being too milky and oily. I've only gone in once. That once time, they weren't that busy, got sat in the very back of the building with no one else back there with us, not even the servers. It took them 20 min to take our drink order and get them to our table. We ordered Avocado toast and that took about 45 min to get to us that as we were walking away the server was barley bring out the food. The bartenders and waiters were very nice and helpful. If I could rate these things alone, I would have given Sonder's 5 stars . Here is where Sonder's needs to improve....their food. It was very bland and lacked basic seasoning. It was a bit of a disappointment because, like I said earlier, I really liked a lot about Sonder's. I understand for some Sonder's food is good but for me it was lacking in flavor. The food is reasonably priced for the venue. With that being said, the food should be as great as the venue itself. Sonder is as welcoming as your Grandma is to her knitting club. It's casual and comfortable, yet refined enough for date-night. Every menu item has a story. If you really want to know, just ask the staff. But know that each and every item that makes it on to the menu has a reason, and has been vetted by loads of picky folks. Want a handmade cocktail? Yeah, they have those. Kevin, their custom cocktail-ologist (is that a thing? well now it is!) can create just about anything, but stick with their seasonal cocktail menu and you'll be golden. Sonder is a place Bakersfield needs. We need creative gastrologists. People who don't fear boundaries and can push limits. A cute hipster spot in town. The food is delicious. I would recommend the shrimp and grits, it's unlike any other I've had before. They fry the shrimp into hush puppies so it's literally the best of both worlds. You can dip the hush puppies into the grits. I also enjoyed the selections of wine they had. The customer service is great;however, they are a bit slow when it comes to taking your order/drink. While we were waiting on our meal we were "treated" to the loud and profane (F Bombs galore) outburst of a group of 8 or so people sitting in the mosh pit area. It was brunch and not overly busy, but yet a coffee that was the first thing ordered did not reach our table until after our entrees. Even then it had to be returned because their was lipstick on the coffee cup. I would have removed that charge, I didn't feel like asking, but honestly this would be common sense. The Sonder burger was great and I won't even argue with a $19 price tag, that seems to be normal. The avocado taste was ordered at the table, not good at all and the egg dish okay, so 1 really good, 1 average and 1 poor.
