From the outside, you think this is a nice hotel, but the rooms are NOT nice. They have a musty almost moldy smell to them. The carpets definitely need a good shampooing. The elevator was broken and attending a conference means lugging luggage, laptops, books all up stairs with no offer of any help whatsoever. My bathroom flooded while I was gone and I told the person at the front desk that water was coming from the ceiling and the response was "I'm no engineer " what the heck?! Solid 3 Star Place. There was nothing wrong with our room, and the service was very nice anytime we stopped by. There were two people who went above and beyond, including sending a postcard for me and a man who printed me a new room key at 2 AM when my flight arrived. The room itself had no frills, including no smaller mirror to see my face up close, poor bathroom, lighting, in the bathroom, consisting of only a toilet and a shower that struggled to drain. We had an ant problem in this room, but it did not really detract from the quality of our stay as the ants were small and then quickly left. We also had an ant problem in our rental car, so the fault may have not have been the hotels. The pool area is nice, the lobby is a nice space to gather, and the grounds itself are fairly underrated... When I walked towards the car, parked out back I was met with a very nice view of the mountains over the highway. read more

Very disappointing stay. The room was noticeably dirty upon arrival, and housekeeping clearly needs to improve its standards. The property feels run-down and poorly maintained, with mold present in the bathroom. The walls are extremely thin--you can easily hear conversations and noise from neighboring rooms, making it difficult to relax or sleep. Overall, I would not recommend staying here. read more

This is one of the best hotels I have stayed at, the best part is how comfortable the mattress is. It's very affordable, quiet, safe given the fact there's always Camarillo sheriff patrolling the parking, and the staff is very friendly. It's a big property but you can still park close to go to your car if needed, the TV is great with lots of channels . read more

Overall I had a decent one night stay. Friendly staff, safe and convenient location. The bed is comfortable and the sofa as well. They provide a few hygiene basics in room: shampoo, conditioner, shower gel, hand soap bar, two bath towels (wish there was one or two additional ones). The room was mostly clean, however there was what appeared to be dried blood and snot on the inner shower curtain, ew. In regards to the television, the only large streaming service on there is Netflix (no Hulu or Amazon). This place provided me all the basics so it was good enough for me for a night and I would stay again. read more

I was terrified for my safety with no way to escape while a standoff situation was going on all around me and not even offered an evacuation and when I tried to call the front desk they hung up on me. Make up the rooms of the guests who are staying over rather than a vacated room you don't check a new guest into until 4:00 p.m. it's not fun to sit in the lobby after a day out waiting until they get around to your room. When you leave your room at 9:30 am and return by 2:00 pm it is not unreasonable to expect the room to be made up. Be sure you check out the room they assign you before you accept it. Although we booked months in advance we got the crappiest room in the hotel. The hotel was fully booked because of a wedding in the area so we were stuck. Blinds open up to the parking lot which means they have to stay closed. Being a repeat guest does not get you any points. The hotel is overpriced for the level of service and accommodation. Consider alternatives in the area. We have given this hotel several chances to improve but remain disappointed. You've lost my business. read more

For the price, I thought this was a fantastic stay. Loved the fact it was dog friendly, and by that I mean they allow ALL dogs. My biggest pet peeve is when a hotel or apartment complex claims they love animals but have breed restrictions. Staff was extremely friendly, and helpful whenever needed. Rooms were clean. The AC/fan worked great, which is always a big deal for me considering that's how I drown out any outside noise. Neighbors were respectful which has been a big issue in the past. Also LOVED that this hotel was within walking distance of different restaurants. I'll definitely be back if I need another local stay :) read more

Disgusting to say the least. Checked in to stay overnight for a wedding only to find either fecal matter or blood specs on the sheets. We called to let them know and offered to change rooms but the casual response like this is just a quick fix of a room change left us grossed out we left 15mins after checking in and did not stay there. First night, there were dirty towels in the bathroom and there weren't any sheets in the room for the for the pull out bed. When sheets were requested, they never came. The next night, 2 unopened bottles of water that I placed in the closet that morning were missing. I informed the front desk of the issue and they said it couldn't have been housekeeping because they "don't come til the 4th day." Oh it's a cheap dump. An old Marriott with the same paint job and rooms that have OLD box AC stystems and NO food most of the day or night. Maintenance is not good and they even have a toilet in the parking lot. Just a port-a-potty that they have meft in plain view. Expect service on par with a motel 6 or Extended Stay America. They are not worth the price. Also thr location is not easy access you have to drive thru a shopping mall to get to the front of this old property. Expecting a free breakfast with your status: Guess again. No free breakfast. Want to check in early...that'll cost you $30.00 even with status. Just stay at the Marriott Residence Inn. They never gave us towels the whole 4 days. I had to grab some off the linen cart myself. The bathtub had a ring around it and the water looked pooled in The tub when using the shower. I told the lady at the desk but she didn't care much. No free coffee or complimentary breakfast which for the money of the rooms was odd. Also no hot water for a morning and when I complained to the lady at the desk she said because of the ww power outage the night before but no apology rather made me feel like oh well not there fault which it's not but act like you care a little. Jay at the front desk went above and beyond in helping me access my documents and by printing them out for me! I was also able to get delivery from Amazon sent to the front desk and picking it up was seamless. I've stayed for about a week now and had no issues. Absolutely horrible. The walls are paper thin. I could hear everything. Upstairs the people were having loud sex all night long then when the man fell asleep I could hear him snoring. I was also right by the stairs and gym. So loud. Bottom floor also not safe for a female. The window could have been easily broken into to. Five stars because Sonesta was exactly as I expected for a reasonably priced and pet friendly hotel. My husband and I stayed 4 nights, with our two dogs and had a perfectly nice time. Everyone who worked there was friendly, and helpful. Our room was clean, and spacious (two queens), and the lobby/common areas are have lots of places to hang out. Behind the hotel is a large grassy area for dogs, and either this hotel only had super courteous pet owners, or the hotel maintains that area because it was almost pristine. We were lucky enough to arrive on the night they were debuting a new cocktail, and enjoyed some yummy food and said cocktail. Special shout-out to Melanie and Ramon, who were truly wonderful and so welcoming. The hotel id situated is a shopping area, so there are plenty of food options within walking distance. Outdated television that wouldn't connect to internet so Netflix wouldn't load, air conditioning not working so my partner and I kept waking up in a hot and humid room, and the shower gel and shampoo smelled rotten, like they were expired. Decided on doing a last minute trip and without really looking into this place, we booked it on the fly. Didn't read reviews, didn't really check out pics, and didn't see their rating. We were def not disappointed and really enjoyed our stay. Check in was easy and the guy at front desk was helpful. We sorta checked in late since this was a spontaneous getaway. As soon as I walked in, I noticed the TV's and the in-house cafe throughout the lobby. When you check in, you are given a discount voucher for the cafe-The Commons. We also got free parking due to the system being down. We were clueless on where to eat so decided to check out the Commons. Our hosts Angie and Anne were amazing. They made us feel at home and were quick to serve us. We ended up ordering the artichoke dip which was yummy along with the grilled cheese and tomato bisque soup. That was also very flavorful and they give you a big portion. The room was very comfy and cozy. It was clean and sanitized. The bathroom was equipped with all amenities for the shower. We had a coffee maker and fridge which was a plus. Next time we are back in the area, we may stop by to rest because it is so convenient to the freeway and close to the outlets, which is a plus. The WORST hotel experience from Sonesta Select Camarillo DAY ONE I booked a 3-day trip at Sonesta Select Camarillo, for a One Bedroom Suite - to celebrate the new year's holiday. We drove all day, tired and arrived around check in time. Upon arrival I checked in, went to the room. The room looked outdated, the condition was dirty and the wood around the fridge was peeling off, amongst many other things. I informed the manager in person & spoke to the housekeeper who was available. It took a long time to have the room cleaned which ruined my entire first evening at this hotel. These are the items of concern found on my first night: * Wood peeling off from the fridge * Food splatter left in microwave * Urine/blood-stained toilet with hair * Dried blood/food on bathroom light switch * Stained bedding, covers & sheets * Dirty bathroom sink * Dirty hair clogged blow dryer * Cracked open a/c & heater unit * Dirty couch, had to put sheets over to sit on during my stay here. * Not given sofa Pillows advertised on Sonesta's website, 1 long pillow. * The ottoman advertised on Sonesta's website for my booked room was missing, which made it very uncomfortable sitting on the sofa. (See ALL photos) DAY TWO I walked down to the front desk & spoke to Ramon, the manager on duty. I showed him the pictures I had taken with my phone of the problem areas in our hotel room. In addition, I asked him to go with me to see the room to verify those issues and he responded that there was no need to. The manager finally & reluctantly after about a half hour, gave me an additional day stay. He did not do this out of kindness, he Only did it because I convinced him with proof, that his hotel room was subpar. I did not have to well-document it, but since management was not taking this seriously, it triggered me to take pictures, times and dates, therefore missing out on the fun time I could have spent elsewhere in Camarillo. DAY THREE We went out during the day in good spirits, finally relieved in hopes, no new problems would come up. After enjoying a great time in Camarillo, I arrived back at my hotel room, with hands full of bags. As I used my keycard to get into my room, it did not work. I stood in the hallway trying to get in with my card as hotel guests passed by looking at me strange, which was extremely embarrassing. If you've never been to this hotel and your room is located on the far end of the property, you have to walk several corridors long to get to the front desk. The room numbers range from 101 to 172, & 201 to 272, which is a long, long, walk to the front lobby because there is no elevator access on that side of the property. You have to haul your luggage a far distance away from the elevator. By the time I walked around the hotel room corridors, went back down to get the key cards fixed & replaced; I missed my pre-planned outing of going to the movies, which ruined my New Year's Day evening. DAY FOUR Last day of my hotel stay. Exiting my hotel room, I began walking with my bags and luggage down the long corridor. There was a cleaning lady with her supply cart, in the middle of the last corridor. I continued to head towards the elevators, now fifty feet away from this cleaning lady, as she began to yell out, "are you leaving". Since I was too far away, I went back to find her one door away from my hotel room. This was very suspicious because when I originally passed by her, I was nowhere near my room, and she was in a separate corridor to my room, so I found that extremely odd. I asked her why she was trying to get my attention. She said she wanted to clean my room. I asked, why she wanted to clean my room now. She again, responded because she wanted to clean my room. I then asked her if she was the initial person who had cleaned the room and she responded yes. I then realized... this is the lady who was responsible for not properly cleaning the room, before I arrived to the hotel, which "IS" the reason my hotel stay was ruined. No one wanted to tell me who was responsible for not cleaning my room properly but she gave herself up when she flagged me down, to cover herself on the cleaning of the room for the next hotel guest. I reported the key card incident to J.B. aka Eduardo, supervisor, he responded by telling me that my hotel card was not working because I had placed it next to my iPhone. I corrected him by informing him that my hotel key card was nowhere near my phone. His response was silence. Instead of assisting me as a hotel guest, these two men, Ramon and J.B. aka Eduardo, would come up with excuses, as to why things were not their fault; Like the ice-machine being out of order, not fixed for hotel guests. We have been hotel guests when this property was owned by the Marriott, but as soon as Sonesta Select took over, customer service is nearly non-existent. Below is the letter that I have sent to Sonesta Select in Camarillo My wife and I frequently travel to Camarillo California to visit my daughter. We usually stay at the Sonesta here. There is an ongoing cleanliness issue with this hotel that I have brought to the attention of the management but nothing seems to change. It's now three times I have told the front desk or managers about this problem. Most of the showers in the hotel are built with an unusual drain that has a piece of stainless steel that covers where the water drains from the shower. When I've been taking showers, the water has started backing up, and two cases to the point where it would overflow the edge of the shower pan if I allowed it to keep running. About three visits ago, I decided to see if something was clogging the drain under the stainless steel. I lift it up the stainless steel the covers a drain and to my disgust found probably 2 cups of gross hair and debris, along with mold and scum, clogging the drain. On this occasion I told the front desk about this, they promised to tell Housekeeping and maintenance, and when I got back to the room later it had been cleaned. I thought it was probably just a one off incident. However, just a week later I went back to the hotel, in a different room, and the same thing happened. Again I lifted up the drain cover and it was filthy and clogged with hair and scum. Again I talked to the front desk, who promised to notify the manager, who was apparently on the phone at the time. They said they would come and clean it, but this time they didn't, and my wife had to use toilet paper to clean the hair out of the drain so we could shower. The front desk person said that this had this had been an ongoing issue with Housekeeping and that they knew about the problem. They offered me a discount on my room, which turned out to be two dollars less than what I paid on Priceline. Unfortunately we went back again this weekend to stay at the hotel. Exactly the same problem. Photos are attached to show you the degree of the problem. (Couldn't post my videos on Yelp) This is not even the worst I have seen. I took pictures previously, but I deleted them. Because of the lack of responsiveness and the disgusting state of the showers, I am going to be posting on social media about this, not something I would usually do. Standing in water that is coming from that scum is disgusting and unhealthy! The hotel seems completely unwilling or unable to do anything about the problem. Please see the attached photos. Just not as expected. I guess for a basic hotel it's OK, but there are certain things that make a hotel a comfy stay in my book. For example, I guess I like a microwave and a real coffee pot of some kind in my room. This place just doesn't provide the simple comforts of home. Rather it seems they nickel and dime you to buy coffee downstairs. Most hotels on this level give a few freebies and goods in the room. Yet the staff was friendly, the gym was ample, the bed comfortable--- so its an average in my book. I certainly won't complain about the price, but if you're looking for a few more upgrades this is probably not going to satisfy. read more

Stayed last night. Check in was super easy, front desk staff were friendly. I wish I took some pictures. Lobby is cozy and inviting. We had a king bed room. The room was spacious, as was the shower. The sink/wash up area is not in the same room as the toilet/shower, which is a plus for two people getting ready at the same time. Plenty of parking. My only real gripe is that the housekeeps seem to clean at eye level and below. Cobwebs along the ceiling over the bed, as well as above the bathroom mirror. Even though the room was nice, the spiderwebs kind of make it feel not as clean. I would definitely stay here again, though. Easy to access the freeway. read more

Checked in over the phone. It was the only next inexpensive hotel, so they required a card. Had to pull over and then make my way to the hotel. When approaching the receptionist, she greeted me. Gave her my name, asked about dinner time, and she said they are not open tonight at all for dinner. I asked when they would open again for breakfast, and she said I didn't get the breakfast package so it would not be open for me. Very rude. Gave me my room number, key, and it's additional $10 for parking. Did not give me a wifi password either. Went to my room, and took pictures and video of what looked like dry and fresh blood on the carpet. Reception said that blood is brown and it looked like nail polish...ummm, no it did not. I drove 7 hours and just need a room. She switched me over to a room with no phone access and it had left over food in the refrigerator from someone else's stay. I threw it out and had to call twice because some people had their television on too loud in the room and nothing. She wouldn't even let me finish the conversation with continued interruption. Our room was third rate; no shower curtain, empty Kleenex box, one washcloth, low-end linens, and the room was like a cave. I think they tried to dress up a property in need of major overhaul. We needed them to be there, as our house was being fumigated. It was a depressing disappointment. The "restaurant" manages to throw together a small selection of mediocre meals requiring no real kitchen. The staff were polite, but their problems are from the top-down. To top it all off, after getting married, my wife was verbal assaulted by a drunk man in the lobby who threw cheese fries at her & the drunk guy also put his hands on my mother & called my cousins the C word. We stayed for a weekend with my Yorkie. Charged pet fee and no pet welcome pack or anything. The hotel inside and out no better than any Day Inn Hotel. Small lobby, no free breakfast, no free coffee in the lobby and no indoor parking. BUT hotel charge parking fee for car park outside the hotel building. Room facing swimming pool, it's more like a size little larger than hot tub. Surrounding the pool area is ugly! A few bushes and a few grass patches for dogs. They charged me dog fee twice in error. Then later I found hotel charged all kind of tourist and business tax on my invoice.....I traveled with my dog often and dog fee is a one time fee only BUT they charge tourist and business taxes on top of my dog fee!! I will not recommend this hotel, too pricey, no amenities, no customer service, staffs not friendly and many unexpected charged. read more

This is a very clean and safe hotel. It was comfortable and even the room I had facing the freeway was very quiet. They must have soundproofing. The staff was fine. I arrived late, so there was only one gentleman to help, but he was polite and efficient. I was happy until morning when I discovered there was no hot water for a shower. It was recommended that we stay here by a friend and I regretted not following up on the reviews before booking. We checked in just fine, but when I got to side of the hotel to enter my room the card key wouldn't work at the building door. Two gentlemen who were also staying here tried theirs and it also did not immediately work at which point one of them stated that it takes a few swipes for it to read. I encountered the same issue when I got to my room when the card failed to read and I had to swipe it at least 6 times before it worked each time I entered the room. After finally getting in the door i immediately checked the bed for bed bugs and after reassuring myself there were none I brought in my suitcase, quickly inspecting the rest of the room which appeared somewhat clean since the bed looked freshly made and the toilet appeared to be clean. Afterward I was out in town to handle some business, however upon inspection later that night I noticed that the bath towels looked hard and crusty as if someone had used them and laid them back on the towel rack. I also noticed that the trash can wasn't emptied and there was some water or oil on the bedside table. Considering the late hour that I finally noticed this I tried not to make a fuss since I was tired and bring my own bath towel anyway. The following morning I decided to use the iron and ironing board but the ironing board had yellow stains on it so I used the counter space and a hand towel to ensure the stain on the ironing board wouldn't transfer with the heat. I also had to call for room service because there was no hair dryer in the room. There are also no microwaves in the room, the desk chair had an obvious coffee stain running along the backrest of it, and the shower had pubic hair in it. The air conditioner also kept seeing itself to 74 degrees despite me setting the room to 70 degrees several times. Overall not happy with my stay and hope no one else has to endure this. Had it not been so late when I finally settled into the room I would have made a fuss and switched but at that point I just needed a bed and shower. read more

I am rating this hotel poorly because of 2 factors. We were placed on the 2nd floor and there is only 1 elevator in the whole hotel which was on the other side of the entire complex. The 2nd and main reason for the bad review was for the broken refrigerator in our room. Housekeeping turned it on prior to our check in but they clearly did not actually look inside because the shelves and ice tray were moldy. If they are leaving refrigerators moldy, I can only imagine the other housekeeping tasks they are bypassing. So many issues. First, I called the night before to see how early we might get our room Saturday morning, needing to change clothes for a wedding. They said probably not a problem because they weren't very full Friday night and to call Saturday morning. Saturday morning, they tell me there's rooms open but it's $30 to get a room before 1 pm. I tell them 1:00 is fine because we won't be there until about that time. I check in at 1:00 and she tries to charge me $30 for early check in! I pointed out it was after 1:00 and she had to get a manager to see if I was on a list (no one ever said I needed to be on a list) and finally, they just gave me the room. Is there a policy or not? Do you just make up policies as you go along? Why did the Friday night person say nothing about a fee, the Saturday morning person said before 1:00 and the check-in person tried to charge me after 1:00? Next, we have to pay $10 for parking. Paid parking for a suburban hotel next to a freeway? This isn't downtown LA. Finally, we were given a room facing the freeway.
