So, it's been a LONG time and a lot has changed. They've moved to a new and bigger location. And I actually got to eat inside the restaurant this time. The food was good, though not great. The ambiance was fine, but loud. The service did NOT measure up though. We had a reservation, but weren't seated until 15-20 minutes after the reservation time. Then, our server was either not good or way overworked. She left after taking a few drink orders, and said she'd be back. Had to flag her down. She didn't write our orders down, and then messed some of them up. The side I ordered to share with the table (like an appetizer) didn't come out until after ALL the rest of the food. She never came back to refill coffees. The service really subtracted from the experience.
I think that Songbird suffers from a problem that many businesses have when they scale up: the personal connection is lost, and the food no longer tastes like it is made with love. I was very excited to try them but left knowing I would not return. I waited 40 minutes on a weekday morning for a bar seat for one, standing because all the waiting area seats were taken. The hostess/waitress was very nice when she got to me, but you could tell that the amount of customers was simply too much to handle. Now, this was okay - I should have made a reservation, and it's not the staff's fault they were overwhelmed. However, the service once I sat down was patchy, delayed and distracted. I had to remind different servers of my presence, multiple times. I was willing to overlook this if the food had been fantastic, but unfortunately, their most popular item, the combo breakfast sandwich, was so incredibly heavy. The first bite was crispy, oily and fatty deliciousness, but by the third bite it was simply too rich. The sweet overtone of the honey was lovely but did not cut through the grease. By the time I finished half, I understood why several diners had left the other half uneaten. My personal preference is for a fresh, umami yet balanced sandwich that does not make me feel queasy after finishing it. This was not the sandwich for me. There was a long delay after I finished eating for them to bring me the check. My whole meal took around 2.5 hours. I had arrived starving and, I like to think, with an open mind. These are my honest, unfiltered observations. It is wonderful that so many people want to try their food and that their new space is bigger. Their decor, glassware and menu were cute and tasteful. I also love that they grew from a farmers market food stall and that they source their ingredients locally. With their level of popularity, I think they should focus on preserving the quality of their service and food.
Would go 2.5 if could. Had a reservation but waited 15 minutes to be seated. Nice airy decor. Food choices for brunch were unique, included some nice gf items. A bit pricey for a piece of gf cake with some canned berries and a dollop of whipped cream on top, but some good food choices and cocktails. Service was prompt once we were seated and food came out reasonably on time.
Checked out the new Songbird location and overall had a good experience. The new space is really big, though the parking lot is still pretty small, but plenty of street parking! We sat by the window and it was HOT. Like sweating-through-brunch hot. The rest of the restaurant seemed cool and comfortable, so maybe just avoid that area if it's sunny out. Food was good overall. I liked the chicken sausage and the signature sandwich. I also got the seasonal maple iced latte, it was a little more savory than I was expecting, but still good. The carrot French toast didn't blow me away, I wasn't super impressed. Our waitress was very nice and attentive! No complaints One thing to note for parents: no high chairs, so just know that going into the experience! There'd benches against the walls, which they may be able to accommodate for you, if you call ahead
What a little gem in the tower grove area! We happened to walk in a little after 8am on a Sunday morning and were surprised to hear all the tables had a reservation, but we could sit at the bar....so we did. Note.....make a reservation! I started with the vanilla bean latte (iced) and my son and husband had the songbird latte (hot) both drinks were excellent. Full of flavor and as you can see from the pictures, the hot lattes had lovely art. For the main event, I had the Grassfed Beef Patty Melt (with a side of cheesy grits), while my son and husband had the Combo Breakfast sandwich. All I can say is YUM! everything was seasoned well, crispy and so enjoyable. One of the best parts of the menu viewing is the lower left corner to see all the local providers of the ingredients - love that!! The ambiance is cheerful meets retro. The hardwood floors and the bar as well as the accents around the bar definitely retro. But the walls were a bright yellow and so cheerful! The service was very nice, we had our coffees first then had a chance to enjoy them before our main courses came out. Run dont walk....and as a second endorsement, my husband and son summarized our visit by saying.....I would love to have that again.
What an amazing brunch experience. Love the quirky ambience and the limited menu . Also love the fact that the menu has several gluten free, vegan and vegetarian options . There is a parking lot , which is great because street parking is tough near that location. The service was amazing . Friendly , informative and non intrusive . My friend and I both got the farm toast with seasonal fruit jam (strawberry -yum !) I tried the beet mocktail and my friend had hot chocolate. Both great . Can't wait to be back .
This eclectic art forward brunch spot might be hard to get a reservation for but there is a reason for that! The bright nature forward interior is the perfect vibe for an upscale brunch with friends! Everything on the menu has locally sourced ingredients and the information to each farm and supplier. It was our first time here but I truly think you couldn't go wrong with anything you order because of the attention to detail the staff gives to each dish. The seasonal carrot cake farm roast was truley delectable and one of a kind! Our waitress was lovely but we did have to stand and wait for our table for nearly 30 minutes despite having a reservation. If you are looking for a bright sunny restaurant in St. Louis this is your spot!

I love the original Songbird so I was a little nervous coming to the new location, you know how it is when a place expands, you always hope nothing changes. Happy to report it did not disappoint! The new spot is so much bigger, lots of seating and a spacious layout. We did a walk in for brunch so we knew going in there'd be a wait and ended up on the waitlist for about 45 minutes. The food is just as good! The menu is short and simple so it makes it easy to work your way through the whole thing over a few visits. The drinks are also yummy! Cocktails, coffee, or tea definitely give them a try. The staff is always so efficient and friendly too, you can tell they have it together even when it's slammed. If you haven't been, go. If you loved the original, you'll love this one too.
Oh what a morning melody at Songbird on Morganford... From the moment our party of four settled in by the window, the whole brunch felt like stepping into a charming little café tucked somewhere along a London street. Maybe it was the soft light, maybe it was the tea... but truly, it felt like a page from a storybook. Our wonderful waiter, Twaon, was nothing short of magical -- attentive, kind, and always appearing at just the right moment like a friendly note in a perfect song. The cocktails were bright, balanced, and absolutely on point. I chose a loose-leaf tea from The London Tea Room, and when that personal pot arrived -- warm, elegant, and refilled without even asking -- I was completely enchanted. What outstanding service! As for the food? A symphony of comfort and flavor. I savored the patty melt, paired with the most delicious pickled onions that danced across every bite. My husband enjoyed the breakfast sandwich, hearty and satisfying. Our friends sang praises for both the patty melt and a beautiful breakfast bowl crowned with sunny eggs. And the finale? A frozen yogurt and granola sandwich -- light, dreamy, and utterly divine, like the sweetest closing chorus. Songbird isn't just brunch... it's an experience that hums with warmth, charm, and a little bit of magic. If you find yourself longing for a cozy, whimsical escape -- follow the music and land here. I know I'll be back to sing its praises again.
I went here for a brunch with a friend and although it is not traditional diner food it is a healthier but delicious take on it. I got a sandwich with egg, honey and bacon and it literally was the perfect blend of salty and sweet. Felt like a hangover cure. The coffee cake is more of a coffee loaf it's got good spice but don't expect fluffy and super sweet; the chai was good nothing super different from a decent chai. Our waiter was also extremely friendly and quick, the space was warm and inviting and is a great place to catch up with friends. Maybe make a reservation as it is popular.
First time going to their new space and it is absolutely gorgeous. It's so cozy and cute with rustic charm, I love it!! As always the service and food was excellent. I had a matcha latte and the classic combo breakfast sandwich! I really like their matcha lattes here and their combo breakfast sandwich is to die for! Overall it's always a great experience here and I hope I'm able to come back soon!

Songbird is the crown jewel of the Grove's restaurant offerings. I've been a few times now, and each visit has been excellent. Even with a low seating capacity, I've never waited more than 20 minutes, even during the Sunday brunch rush, and it's always worth the wait. The Combo is my go-to, the toasted sourdough and honey really elevate it beyond the typical breakfast sandwich. The Sprouted Grain English Muffin was also delicious when I tried it. On our last visit, they even brought us a Caesar Salad free of charge. Not sure if this was due to a slight mix-up with the check-in for seating, or perhaps our waiter heard us mention wanting to try it, but it was an unexpected treat, and paired well with the sandwiches! When will I ever learn that these cute, trendy coffee shops are not good? ....... My Caesar salad was so salty and wilted that I could barely eat it. I sent my iced chai tea latte back to be removed from my order because it was simply milk over ice. My daughter's patty melt was ok. This was a horrible experience. read more

After hearing years of rave reviews. Came in for lunch on my day off. It was a holiday at peak time so no surprises there was a wait but the team worked efficiently and we were seated in less than 30 min for a party of two. We both opted for the English muffin but everything looks so good I think I need a few trips back so I can try more options! Portions are super generous and flavors were spot on for my sandwich. A tad greasy but overall yummy. Wish the sandwich was served on a plate. Atmosphere is cozy, warm, and welcoming and the space is efficiently used. Service was 11/10 despite the busy time everyone was friendly and efficient. I will be back! read more

Overall a great experience. The standout thing for me was the whole atmosphere. You could tell everyone there was all in and happy to be there and it was very refreshing. I made a reservation for a group of 8 and I didn't realize how small this place was but they were very accommodating. It took about 20-30 min to get seated after our reservation but I think that's just because we took up such a significant portion of their space so I'm sure it's tough. They were very nice about it, compensating us by bringing out several free dishes for us to try which was really fun. The whole time the whole staff was incredibly attentive and friendly and really took care of us. One of my friends is celiac and they were also very accommodating for him and gave plenty of options for gluten free substitutions. As far as the food I really liked it. I ordered the combo sandwich and while everything I had was good, that is the dish that stuck out to me. I typically like trying out of the box things so I stray from regular breakfast sandwiches but this had sea salt and honey which gave it an awesome unique flavor and it is hands down the item I would recommend when going here. I also had the farmers toast, and tamale which were still a solid quality and very reasonably priced which was great. The chocolate milk was the best chocolate milk I've had in a long time. The only negative food experience we had was a couple of my friends trying the coffee bread and saying that it was dry, bland, and small - especially for 7 dollars. The only thing I didn't try that I wanted to was the lox sandwich but I will definitely be coming back at least to try that sometime. Only thing to be aware of is that it is very small and busy so I'd recommend making a reservation or going during less busy hours if they have any(we went 12:30 on Sunday which is a busy time for them I would assume) read more

Wish this place is bigger in the inside but I can definitely see some outdoor seating when it's warm out. The staff is so nice and talkative and loves conversation. They have wifi! The bacon was nice and crispy and the Farm Toast was so fluffy and creamy and I love the use of Japanese style milk bread. Check out the bathroom, it is so cute! I could spend all day in there. I've gotten the sandwich before so I got the toast and it was just what I needed. If you have not gotten The Combo, that's the first thing you need to get! The right amount of bacon and runny egg and sweetness from the honey and the sea salt was just a great touch. Just all of it was amazing. read more

What a treat! Fantastic breakfast experience. 5/5 Both their savory offerings and their sweet offerings knocked it out of the park. It was such a delight to sit on the sidewalk outside, drink their outstanding True Level brewed coffee, sit with good company and treasure every last bite of our meal while watching the nearby pleasantly docile and friendly butterflies and bees. We didn't have anything that I wouldn't recommend. I'd order anything with their sprouted English muffin again. It's simple and delicious food and the price can add up quickly. It's a bit more expensive than our typical breakfast outing, but worth every penny. I'm happy team Songbird is doing their thing for our town and I'm looking forward to my next foodie experience with them. August 2022 read more

Gluten-free. Breakfast. Sandwiches. That. Do. NOT. Suck. and... a bright and sunny space. The gluten-free options are awesome. You can absolutely tell that they are using high-quality ingredients from the best locally-sourced items - farm-to-table style. Everything is so fresh and all of the flavors blend really beautifully. The French toast with gluten free bread; both savory and sweet are really richly-flavored and that the bread is amazingly dense. Gluten free breakfast sandwiches beautifully crisp and buttery on the outside that are very filling. The Classic is the one I typically get as the combination of sea salt and honey on the bread is absolutely delightful; sweet and savory is my favorite flavor profile. They also do mimosas right with the correct proportions of juice and champagne. The turkey sausage has a really nice texture and is very tasty. My family has ordered the benedict more than once so I would say that is a favorite! We have been to Songbird twice - including a busy Mother's Day which did not mean poor service even in their busyness. The restaurant is small so I recommend reservation. Parking is street parking but we have never had a problem finding a spot. read more

I heard amazing reviews about this place and wanted to check this place out. We wanted to go the day after Christmas so we made reservations. We were seated right away. We ordered the breakfast sandwich, frittata, and the poundcake. I had the songbird latte which was good. The breakfast sandwich was tasty especially with their honey. The poundcake was so dense and moist. The jelly was sweet which was a perfect combo with the poundcake. It was a good way end off with our savory meal. Then, we were offered with their frozen yogurt with oats. They were a perfect snack. The oats tasted like a cookie and the frozen yogurt was creamy and melted in your mouth. We had a great experience and it was one of our top brunch spots in STL. read more

Simple and sophisticated! Was at the farmers market on Saturday and tried some food from a booth. The food at the booth was outstanding so I asked if they had a restaurant and they said Songbird was 1 of 2. The wait was longer for a Sunday morning, but it was worth it. I ordered the Combo sandwich and it was was so simple, but so dang tasty. The honey and sea salt elevated this breakfast sandwich to a perfection level. The fresh toast was amazing highlighting seasonal berries. This was very sweet so It was great to share this dish as it wasn't too big as well. My friend got the tamales and that was very good too. This portion was very large and filling as well. We ordered two drinks , one was a songbird latte w/ oat milk - this was amazing ! Great hot drink. The second was a cold brew with OatMilk and a little vanilla seasoning. Again, this drink was outstanding! Songbird gets a 10/10 in my books. Can't wait to come back and try more! read more

We came here for breakfast on a Saturday around 9:30 expecting to wait, but were seated right away,. I got the ice coffee and would recommend the added vanilla froth! My man got the vanilla cream ale, to wash it down- he said it was kinda sweet. The Peach farm toast was amazing and the bf said the bagel and lox reminded him of Sweden! This is definitely one of if not the most delicious sandwich I have ever had. The whole sandwich is designed around making the aged cheddar cheese shine. Its salty with a hint of sweetness. One of the best English muffin sandwiches I've EVER had. This comes with pickled onions and a delicious mustard sauce. The eggs are nice and fluffy and the greens are fresh. I wish I could have eaten this there but I had to take it to go. It was amazingly fresh and the coffee choices are fantastic. I had gotten a special latte to go. This was a delicious and filling breakfast. You can see how amazing the quality of their food is. The English muffin is made-in house which is incredible. Definitely a great balance of flavors. This is an amazing spot for breakfast/brunch. My wife and I decided to stop here on our way out of town on a Monday morning. They are pet friendly as long as you are sitting on the patio. I will say the only knock against the place is finding the entrance which is on the side. Signs are directing you, but it is more of a nuisance than anything else. The food came out quickly. We shared The "Combo" Breakfast Sandwich and Farm Toast. The "Combo" Sandwich is all the things. It has thick applewood bacon, egg, and cheddar cheese on toasted sourdough with light honey. This just melts in your mouth and I could eat this every day. The Farm Toast is made from a griddled Japanese milk bread soaked in egg custard, a coffee-infused caramel, topped with seasonal fruit (blueberries!), and whipped ricotta cheese. THIS IS NOT YOUR ORDINARY FRENCH TOAST! The food was amazing! Service Spectacular! Do not miss out! read more

Not surprisingly, this was just an outstanding brunch spot. We came on a Saturday morning at 9:30, but were able to be seated in about 20 minutes. There was plenty of alcohol consumed the previous night, so we played it safe in the morning. I had a WONDERFUL cortado and my wife had the London Fog tea. Both were fabulous. For our food, we split (like we always do...) something savory and something sweet. Our main dish was a breakfast tamale and the sweet was the farm toast. The tamale was outstanding, the black beans were just right. The farm toast was actually a bit more than I wanted, but the taste was super. The topping of the day was blueberry compote and mascarpone, so of course it was wonderful. I think the most notable part, though, was the service. I loved Songbird! Such a clean, cozy ambiance but the location has a very local, neighborhood hidden gem feel. I was happily surprised with how much I enjoyed this brunch spot with their attentive service and delicious food. they even gave us random free little ice cream sandwiches to try! I knew this place was well recommended but I was not sure if it would hit the mark. Well it did. I definitely recommend reservations! It is a basic breakfast menu and a pricey for what you get but the service is good and the food is delicious. I also liked the atmosphere inside. I had the Songbird Latte iced and it was smooth and tasty. I tasted the chocolate latte but it was too strong and not as smooth. For breakfast I got the combo which is really a sandwich and it was perfect. I ordered the egg omelette style instead of fried and thought it was a nice balance with the salt & sweet honey. The only things I wish was that it came with a side like the smash burger which came with chips. read more

I would eat here every day and there are only a handful of places I would say that about (I am a huge FOODIE). songbird is a cozy, warm breakfast spot that sources their ingredients from local small businesses around STL. They curate tasty breakfast meals that you can't find anywhere else and they have some of the best coffee (I am also a coffee snob). My favorite menu items: The Songbird Latte, Farm Toast, Tamale, Kale Frittata. If you aren't adventurous and don't know what to get, you can't go wrong with the classic breakfast sandwich. Best when fully loaded with egg, bacon, and an heirloom tomato when they have them! The most important thing about eating at Songbird is that you would be supporting the owner, Chris (THE SWEETEST PERSON), her awesome, friendly staff, and the local small businesses that she sources the ingredients from. After reading the reviews, we went for brunch to try this place out. Depending on what you are used to, the different reviews will seem right. If you are looking for a huge, cheap breakfast, then you may be disappointed. If you are looking for a more leisurely breakfast that's higher quality, then you are in for a treat. The coffee if from Sump. If you know what this is and appreciate their products, then this is the place for you. We tried the pound cake with cream and coffee jelly to start, then had the Combo breakfast sandwich and patty melt. Coffee for each of us and finished up with the Sump crème brûlée. Everything was great. Both sandwiches were on buttered grilled bread and toasted just right. Good balance of sauce and flavors with nothing over powering. Service was great. Lovely lady named Prisca helped us and made it a great time. Felt like mom feeding the family. She was great and we look forward to coming back and seeing her again. First timer. Made a reservation, but due to unforeseen circumstances we were 12 minutes late. Understandably, our table had been given away so we patiently waited about 45 minutes. WELL WORTH IT! The seating hostess was so patient in the face of the very chaotic lobby of hungry patrons. Our server was friendly and attentive. Even with with a packed house, our food arrived quickly. (We got the Combo, Spinach Frittata and the cheesy grits). I had the hot chocolate (and added a shot of Jameson: my daughter had the Songbird Latte. Both drinks were creamy, rich and delicious! Songbird is phenomenal! I've heard great things and finally went around to going. I got the lox of sesame bialy. It was good, not the best lox I've ever had but it was good. The bialy was a little dry in my opinion. I also got the songbird latte which was perfectly smooth and just the right amount of sweet. My partner got the combo breakfast sandwich and wow, maybe the best breakfast sandwich I've had. Phenomenal. That's definitely what I'm getting when I go back, but honestly everything on the menu looks delicious I want to try it all! I recommend making a reservation because it can get very busy and is a small place. The service was excellent and there were lots of beverage options. Will definitely be back! read more

If you want a coffee selection, this place is for you. The food is good too, although a very limited menu. I had the Combo Breakfast Sandwich with an extra egg. It was very tasty. The egg yolks are slightly runny, so be aware. Staff is very friendly and they don't rush you. The place is small, however it is quant, and intimate.
