This place is amazing. Service was outstanding. Everyone is so friendly. The combo is a god tier breakfast sandwich. That sourdough bread is just perfection. Definitely add the heirloom tomato to your sandwiches. The English muffin was also outstanding. The farm toast was delicious but the berry sauce sort of overwhelmed the Japanese milk bread a bit - in the future I would ask for it on the side. The coffee too was excellent - the honey lavender and cold brew were delicious. My one gripe is how small the drink portions are for the price... Will definitely return often! read more

Nothing quite like a hearty breakfast sandwich that hits the spot! Upon seeing the reviews I really wanted to try on my trip to St Louis. It definitely did not disappoint -- of all the breakfast sandwiches I've had this along with one I had in Portland OR were the best so far. I think it all starts with the bread which had the perfect amount of crisp. If you order the combo sandwich, I highly recommend adding tomato. My initial worry was that it would get a little watery but it wasn't at all and was so well done -- really added a good touch! Really nice service as welI, the one who helped me out was super friendly. I went during delta-era Covid so everything was ordered online and they would bring the food out. When the weather is nice sitting outside is super relaxing, combined with an awesome breakfast sandwich makes for a really solid morning read more

We arrived around 9am on a rainy Sunday morning. Parking is street only, could be an issue on weekdays as there is a lot of permit only parking nearby. The entrance is down the wooden alley; not the door on the corner. Inside is very cute, we were seated immediately. The coffee was very flavorful! We ordered the English Muffin sandwich and the Farm Toast. The sandwich was piping hot and tasted incredibly fresh. The addition of pickled onions really gave the sandwich some POP. The toast tasted almost like it was made of cornmeal; very flavorful and super unique. Not what we expected, but delicious! We stopped in while driving across country from LA to NJ for some breakfast/ brunch. The location was super cute with both indoor and outdoor seating. Our waiter, Cyrus was very friendly and courteous, and also very approachable. Now the food! OMG... excellent food, with exceptional ingredients and mostly farm- to - table ingredients. Generous portions and delicious drinks as well. The breakfast sandwich and house-made English muffin sandwich were both absolutely delicious. We added slices of heirloom tomato to both sandwiches and probably the best chicken sausage I've had. The black tea and iced latte with vanilla foam was also delicious. Why do millennials love brunch? Maybe its because we can't afford two separate meals in this economy? Maybe its cause drinking booze in the morning is more acceptable if you label it "brunch" (though no booze @ songbrird)? Maybe it's because a hearty meal of salt, grease, and coffee washes away the regrets from last night? Either way, this is probably one of the better brunch spots in the city that is now probably too popular for its own good (long wait, unorganized hosting system, etc etc). This little brunch spot was an absolute delight. We ate on the patio on a lovely Saturday morning. Maybe a 20-30 minute wait, but the friendliness of the staff made that a non issue. Food: the breakfast tamale was a delight. I'd call it a must-order if you enjoy Mexican meeting breakfast food (and really, you should). My wife had the French toast which had a great texture and some lovely peach preserves on top. Drinks: Coffee and latte were both lovingly made and had well balanced flavors. I have no idea how they do it, but their food is absolutely amazing! Everything I've tried has had so much flavor and has been absolutely delicious! My favorite is the Farm Toast. I've been there four times, and their quality of service and overall dining experience is consistently great. Highly recommend! Great breakfast place especially for savory food lovers! Tried two popular dishes, the lox and breakfast tamale. Both had very unique flavors that blended well together (no blandness) and substantial portion size in my opinion. The mulled cider was amazing, so definitely give that a try. I would recommend planning ahead and getting a reservation, it will take time to get in otherwise. You have to go in person to put your name down and it can take 35-40 minutes after. Songbird is a great breakfast / brunch establishment. Make sure to make a reservation as the seating is limited. I was able to secure a reservation for six on a Saturday with only two days notice. The menu is smallish, which is great for me - it keeps my decisions down. I got the breakfast sandwich, it was executed perfectly. My kids both got the French toast, very good and just sweet enough. My husband got the lox and bagel and he could barely finish it, it was so big. But he did, because it was so good. A nice selection of coffee and tea as well. A good establishment for a date or even family breakfast. Please go! But make a reservation. Oh yeah, we got a delicious ice cream sandwich sample because we made a reservation. We try to get here regularly and find that the food and service are always perfect. What made today's visit more impressive is that our seating was at 10.30 on MOTHER'S DAY! But they were fully ready and handled reservations and walk ins very smoothly. I was surprised to see the large number of carryout orders going out. They must have been in super overdrive. Our server, Cecelia took care of us with total calm and super efficiency. We tried 3 new items. We started with a cinnamon coffee cake. It was delicious and came in a huge serving. It took our whole table to get every crumb. The farm toast was offered on a carrot cake base this time. My wife and mother in law split an order and didn't offer to share. I think that fact defines its value. We also had 2 combo sandwiches and some grits. Then came desert. A home made hollow pastry (think creme puff) it was filled with a strawberry ambrosia that was light but strongly flavorful. The strawberries must have been picked at full ripeness and very fresh. But the real gold mine was the lemon sauce. It was sunshine on a plate. I could drink it straight! Thanks Chris for another memorable day. read more

Wow! I've been wanting to go here for a while now and I'm so glad I finally did, this place is flavortown. I'd heard a lot about the breakfast sandwich and thought how good could it really be- but omg that sandwich is different! It is phenomenal, all the rich flavors work so well together and it was perfectly cooked. It's so cute inside too and we only had to wait about 20-30 min to be seated on a late Saturday morning. The pound cake was also delish and went so well with the delicious iced vanilla latte I ordered. If there was one thing I would suggest for improvement, it would be the addition of some more side options like some crispy potatoes to go along with the sandwich. Came here with a friend on a Monday for brunch and was seated immediately. Parking was a bit hard to find, given the permit restrictions for street parking, but luckily, an establishment across the street was closed that day so their parking spots were open. I ordered the combo breakfast sandwich ($12) and absolutely loved it. The sea salt and honey make for a perfect combo, and it was just the right amount of filling for a solid meal. I will say, the sandwich overall is on the greasier end, but that's probably to be expected with the bacon, cheese, etc! Service was lovely, and the establishment was really cute. read more

Not your typical French toast. This is more of a cornbread base and so moist. Yum! We had the Songbird latte and fresh-squeezed orange juice to round out the meal. We made a reservation for 10 am on a Sunday. The reservation process was weird - you call the phone, leave a message, and wait for a callback. We still had to wait a half hour for our table. And the "waiting area" isn't a waiting area. It's a walk-in that has the bathroom door and kitchen butted up to it. We had an infant, and she got impatient and it was cold by the front door. The food was DELICIOUS. We got the farm toast (the lemon mascarpone cheese was AMAZING), the kale frittata, (HUGE), the Breakfast Tamale (not too spicy but had a great kick!), and the English muffin. Service was great. They made a mistake with our bill but rectified it / gave us a few free items. Overall, worth going. Not sure I'd return until they can get a better reservation system. Reservation only? Walk-in only? Walk-ins don't seem reasonable in the winter when there's no waiting area. read more

Made a reservation for 12:30 and got there like 12:25. Table wasn't ready, no biggie was chatting with my friends, we had a drink menu. There was a wait time but like I wasn't paying attention to time b/c me and my friends didn't have somewhere to get to after brunch. Someone was out twice to update us on timeline. They were slammed and it's small. I wasn't at all upset by this. They comped all our drinks and a couples sides. I would have a happily paid the full bill for the amazing food. It was simply the most welcoming manner in which to be introduced to this treasure and Leslie quickly engaged us with the history of the home and how she and Mark had recently become the owners. We chose this destination based upon the significance of the Fleur-de-lis to my love, a native New Orleanian. Given St. Louis' rich French heritage, the mansion was originally outfitted with four chimneys that feature the fleur-de-lis design and the pattern is repeated throughout the home. While we enjoyed a quiet morning coffee in the back of the property, a lovely shaded patio area, she noticed how many places the symbol was present. She actually made mention to Mark & Leslie that they could make an activity out of counting/finding all of the fleur-de-lis around the home. What a fun idea! We were fortunate enough to book the Tower Grove Park room, a spacious room fitted with a king-size bed and a two-person jacuzzi tub. There is even a 'fainting couch' for that extra French touch! The bed was amazingly comfortable and the decor and accoutrements were exceptional, right down to the pocket doors and writing desk. But a B&B is set apart by the fare served in the morning, and this is where Mark, a chef by trade, and Leslie, a self-taught baker, knock it out of the park. That morning's menu included a fruit starter, fresh juice, Leslie's home-baked sourdough toast and home-baked English muffins, and Mark's egg and sausage soufflés with country potatoes. The entire breakfast had us completely over the moon! We felt so at home that we wanted to clear our own place - so we did! The rates are competitive and well worth every moment spent here. There is parking behind the property, as well as across from the property, and each guest is allowed a unique security code so as to gain entry while you are enjoying your stay. I can't say enough about how much we enjoyed this getaway, and Mark, Leslie, & assistant Sammy made us feel like family from the moment we crossed the threshold. Here's the poop: Encouraging reservations means make a reservation. If you don't, know that there are hard and fast rules they don't tell you about. Here is the summary: 1. Your party should consist of an even number of diners. This is a hard and fast rule. Unfortunately, there are perceived spatial and conceptual issues which effect seating odd numbers of people at tables staff considers meant for even numbers of patrons. The concept of putting an odd umber of diners at tables is both foreign and anathema. 2. If you have the temerity to show up with an odd number of diners, there will be dire consequences. You must expect to wait longer than customers who show with an even number of diners. 3. Expect to exhaust your patience. When this happens, you will be told that restaurant will be happy to seat you at the counter. The staff could have told you this before you put your name on the wait list but then, where's the fun in that? That said, the counter seating offer is a concession - the restaurant does not want you to leave but they don't want to seat your odd numbered party at a table. Why seat three at a table when they can seat four? FYI, the counter is okay but is high and not a terribly conducive place to dine with your friends. 4. Do not expect the courtesy of cup of coffee or a sample of a signature dessert or coffee cake while you wait. These are expensive and the hospitality will not be extended to you. Know your place. You are there for the restaurant's benefit and not the other way around. 5. Expect to be happily told to walk up the block while you wait. The restaurant will promptly text you when they can seat you. This does away with the necessity of face-to-face interaction and grumpy faces. And yes, it is a quaint neighborhood but there really isn't much to see or do - other than consider the possibility of finding another place to dine. 6. If staff tell you the wait is 45 minutes, expect much longer. Reservations come first and your party does not consist of an even number of diner. After all, you wanted to sit at a table and not the counter! 7. When you do finally sit, you will find that your waitron is courteous, helpful and pleasant. The food is good. The place does have a good vibe. However, and unfortunately, the hype and long wait do not make for a memorable dining experience. read more

The person who appeared to be the owner was extremely rude and unkind when my friend requested utensils and her food. While I understand that working in a busy environment can be challenging, maintaining a courteous demeanor towards guests is essential. What truly sealed my decision to never return was witnessing the food preparers using the porta potty out back without following proper hygiene practices. I just had a fantastic experience at Songbird in STL! After being in town for over six months, I finally checked it out, and it's now my go-to brunch spot. The staff is amiable, the outdoor seating area is bustling and pet-friendly, and the food is delicious - I loved every item on their menu. The french toast were divine, as well as the waffles. Incredibly soft and fluffy. The huevos rancheros were good, but definitely not true huevos rancheros (they were tostadas with toppings), and the hash browns weren't my favorite. The almond joy iced latte was amazing. The eggs and hash browns were fine. The turkey sausage was just ok. I was not the biggest fan of the pancake. It was very flat and a little hard on top and I prefer a fluffy pancake. I ordered the mimosa flight and it was really good! My favorite was the apple cider mimosa. Although I wasn't wowed, I'm open to trying something different.

The decor is US pride/military freedom and in general a modern diner with with old school roots with the old fashioned lunch counter and round fixed stools. My service was good with that southern pace. I ordered the classic slinger with chili but the menu does have country version with country gravy that I haven't seen before. My classic slinger was deep fried cubed potatoes topped with topped with a mound of chili, scrambled eggs, cheese, red onions, two juicy pork sausage patties and a side of toast. This was a big portion and probably the best slinger I have had. The chili had a hormel can taste which isn't bad but with a homemade recipe of fresh beans and fresh ground beef with a beefy flavor. OMG this was fu#king delicious and my only complaint was one slice of toast to make my famous toast sandwich. Overall the slinger was probably the best one to date and anyone who follows me knows I'm trying to get restaurants in the Milwaukee area to create one which is never the same as the St Louis only classic breakfast dish, yep they hit this one out of the park.
