We sat outside since their was table open, whereas it would've been an 30 minute wait to be seated inside. The breeze and shade made it the perfect setting for a relaxed weekend brunch. I ordered the frittata made with non-GMO eggs, caramelized onions, kale, spinach, mushrooms, and aged cheddar. It was flavorful, hearty, and beautifully cooked. The garnish of mixed greens with pink peppercorn vinaigrette added a fresh, tangy contrast that elevated the whole dish. My husband had ordered "COMBO" sandwich it's made of three slices of aged white cheddar melted into toasted sourdough, layered with crispy applewood bacon and a fried farm egg, topped with sea salt and honey. For drinks, we had a vanilla latte with oatmilk (creamy and smooth) and the Chouteau Sunrise is one of their speciality drinks, made of a vibrant mix of hibiscus, cranberry, orange juice, lime, and sparkling. First and foremost, an absolutely beautiful space. Calming vibes, natural colors, this place has created an amazing identity and ambience. It is small, intimate with tons plenty of natural decor. The service was awesome. Tons of amazing folks perfectly espousing what it means to be hospitable. I went with their namesake sandwich the combo. It was really good. I will say, flavor wise, you will not be completely blown away. It is a pretty basic build. But, I must admit, you can tell there is a ton of care going into crafting these bad boys. They are mindful of health here. So, the sourdough is not over buttered. There is not too much bacon, and it is not overly greasy. The honey is light, but still does its job. The salt sprinkled atop is a great addition. It was a great sandwich, don't get me wrong. It just doesn't have anything really making it distinguished. Every flavor was spot on. This may be an unpopular opinion, but I have mixed feelings about this place. I only visited once, so I am open to changing my mind, but here's the short version of my experience: beautiful ambiance, great service, unimpressive food. The people working there went above and beyond to accommodate me and my friend, who had made a reservation for the wrong time (5 ). The bright yellow decor says "good morning" like a songbird would, and makes you feel happy (5 ). BUT... the regular coffee was unpleasantly acidic and not particularly fragrant (2 ). The breakfast sampler was a mixed bag. Two fried eggs were just eggs, nothing to report; the chorizo was very fatty and strongly spiced, so much so that I couldn't eat all of it and left about half on my plate. That is something I would never order again at this restaurant. The real superstar of the plate was the English muffin (5 ), worth returning for. Given that the restaurant was packed and the line was out of the door, I am likely in a small minority, but my bottom line is that, at that price point, the food should be striking, not just ok. read more

As a visitor to STL that day, I was looking for a good breakfast spot for my trip. Luckily, we found Songbird on a list as a top place to eat in the Midwest so that was the obvious choice. I ordered just an iced tea. They had a hibiscus berry flavor on the menu and figured that sounded good to try. It was delicious. As someone who doesn't drink coffee, sometimes it's a struggle at breakfast spots but not here. The tea was flavorful, but not overly sweet. I was able to have a few glasses while we were there. I also ordered the combo breakfast sandwich. It had cheese melted on sourdough toast with bacon, egg, and honey. It lived up to the hype that our server said it would. It was phenomenal. Simple concept and creation but it had so much to love and all of the flavors compliment each other perfectly with every bite. Honey is not my top choice for a sandwich topping but it worked here. We came on a Saturday, when they don't take reservations, so I expected to wait. We expected great things from such a wait, but we're sadly disappointed. Farm platter (English muffin, eggs, meat)- Nay. The muffin was underwhelming, eggs were standard, and the bacon wasn't anything special. Cheddar grits- yay. They're good, but texturally interesting. Patty Melt- YAY!!! Two friends and I went to Songbird for brunch on a Friday morning and had a good experience overall! I had made a reservation the day before, and we were seated promptly at our reservation time. We had great service with prompt drink filling and quick turnaround times for food. The atmosphere was bustling and cute. They also had some nice patio seating available. We had three people and were given a corner table. The seats were adequate but the table was very small for three. They have a large indoor seating area, as well as outdoor seating. I would recommend a reservation as this place does fill up quick, especially on the weekends. It comes with just the sandwich, no sides, which I was initially worried about not being enough food. But it was so rich and filling - I ate at noon and it kept me full through the day to a late dinner. The honey and sea salt on it fits perfectly with the bread, crispy bacon, and egg. The egg was cooked perfectly with a little bit of runnyness but not enough to make it too messy. The service was good. I went late on a Sunday morning and had to wait about 15 minutes to be seated. There is plenty of chairs and bench seating outside to sit and wait. I sat at the counter, which is oddly wide and makes ordering a little tough when it's noisy, but that wasn't a deal breaker by any means. My order was $20 before tip, which felt a little expensive for the food at first glance but not when you consider Songbird's commitment to supporting locally sourced ingredients. Just so you know... on the weekends plan on a wait of 30 minutes or more for seating. They do their best, but you're gonna wait for a while. And, yes, it is worth the wait. I ordered an iced matcha with oat milk (already included some vanilla syrup) and their popular combo breakfast sandwich with an added heirloom tomato (+$1). All of which were recommended by our waitress! For me, the matcha was not strong enough, leaving me with mainly the taste of the oat milk. Maybe the ice melted, diluting the drink? Despite its simplicity, the sandwich was really good. The slight bacon grease, bites of sweet honey, freshness from the heirloom tomato, all tied together by the gooey cheese + egg. No complaints for the sandwich! The menu items are very simple and straight-forward, which I enjoy. The drink prices are pretty good, but the food price, considering the portion, is alright.
