After my order was completely wrong my last two Uber Eats attempts I question if the employees don't know how to read or don't care.

All I ordered was a large coke with a lime. I waited 20 minutes to get not what I ordered.

It's crazy this place does not have a better rating! Sonic is one of the best places in my book for a quick and tasty dessert. It's also a fun date night to experience the drive-in while in the comfort of your own car. Our server was super friendly and nice, and the shakes did not disappoint! My friend and i stopped in here for the first time ever, she ordered a bacon double cheese burger, no bun, she is gluten free, and i ordered chicken strips, order came out, she didnt get bacon, went up to counter, she had to then come back to table to bring them the burger, which they should have came out to table to verify. I feel like the worst part about this location is how long it takes and the employees. The food can take 3x the Time McDonalds takes, although McDonalds food is worse. The employees don't check the counter often right now unless it's for Grubhub etc. so if you're not ordering from a car then you might have to wait longer. The food is good IMO and I would say it's worth it. I've heard the delivery is bad, I've never gotten delivery from here though. If you've got time and you like their kind of food then it's definitely an option. read more

This morning I went through the drive thru and the lady was very rude on the intercom. She was very unprofessional and disrespectful. I went to the window to speak with management. "Amber" came to the window and informed me that her and the rude young lady was the manager. I asked for the managers name, Amber said she cant give her name to me. I didnt understand why not. So while I waited for the order, the two "managers" were inside laughing about the whole thing. I felt very disrespected and belittled. This was my first and last experience. I would never go back to this establishment. So sad! read more

Let's be honest -99% of the appeal of Sonic is "carhop" service -you pull into a stall, order into the mic, and someone brings your food out on a tray, which attaches to your window, and you eat off said tray while sitting in your whip. A classic, quintessentially American experience. And it was for that reason that I drove to this particular Sonic, one day after it officially opened in Uptown, along with dozens of other hopeful, eager diners who clogged traffic in both directions of Wilson Ave. I was one of the lucky ones who got a carhop stall, and after only a few glitches (forgivable -they've only been open a day), a carhop came out with my meal on a tray. But instead of affixing the tray to my window, he simply handed me a greasy bag of food and my drink. When I inquired as to wtf, he explained that they did not yet have the attachable trays -yet, he was carrying one, bright red and plastic, not a three feet away from me. Now, that's unforgivable -the appeal of Sonic isn't the food, it's the setting, i.e., sitting in your car, eating a cheeseburger, radio playing rockabilly tunes, just as if you were wearing saddle shoes, a varsity letter sweater and gas was still 28 cents/gallon. Without that window tray, Sonic has virtually zero appeal. You may as well order Hardee's and just park your car and eat in the parking lot. That should merit this Sonic a 1-star review (especially given a number of other glitches & errors, all of which are superfluous and not worth mention in light of this supreme one), but I am giving it 3 because: (a) every single one of the neighborhood kids working the place was extremely nice and genuinely enthusiastic about their job and (b) Sonic has taken a huge risk, opening this outlet in the middle of one of the most gang-ridden, economically challenged neighborhoods in the Midwest. Someone at Sonic corporate had balls of steel and/or 18+ charisma in convincing the board that they ought to open a store here, that people could be persuaded to come to this neighborhood and sit in their cars at night, eating with their windows down and keys in the ignition. Think that's an overstatement? But that's the public perception outside the neighborhood, and I'm willing to bet that it was the perception noted at Sonic corporate HQ in Oklahoma City when someone first pitched this idea. So I'm giving this Sonic 3 stars instead of 1, for having whatever it took to even consider setting up shop here, let alone carry through with it. This is the worst sonic in the world. Almost everyone who works here is breathtakingly incompetent. They take forever. They consistently screw up orders. It's unbelievable how bad this sonic is. It's so bad, I'll probably go to the mcdonalds next door next time. You may be tempted to go here because of your experiences at other sonics. I implore you, don't make the same mistake I made. It's not worth it. There is a KFC a couple blocks away that's very well run. Avoid this sonic. If you go, you'll feel regret, and shame. read more

I just chose McDonald's over Sonic. That's just sad. Here's what led to such an unfortunate turn of events. I've moved all over the U.S., and Chicago is the first place I've lived that (up until recently) didn't have a Sonic. And I loves me some Sonic. Whenever I travel, if there's a Sonic along the way, I stop. So you can imagine my excitement when I learned one was finally coming to town -- and not even far from where I live in Uptown! I went there the first week, and the food was just... not good. But my girlfriend and I chalked it up to growing pains. As we were finishing up, we decided to order some milkshakes to go. Probably to get the taste of the substandard food out of our mouths. We looked at the plethora of scrumptious flavors, and I even said aloud, "Every single one of these looks awesome... except the Jalapeno Chocolate. That one just looks kind of gross." My girlfriend agreed. I ordered a large Peanut Butter Fudge Shake, and she got a small Strawberry Cheesecake Shake. We waited. And waited. And waited some more. Again, we didn't get too upset because... growing pains. We felt bad that we were just sitting there taking up a valuable drive-up spot when people were waiting to park and eat, but we didn't want to leave without getting (and paying for) our order. Finally they came out with two large shakes, even though my girlfriend had ordered a small. We mentioned it to the server, and he just shrugged it off. We paid for the shakes, he walked away and we each took a sip - they were both Jalapeno Chocolate. I was unclear how they'd gotten it so wrong. And if it had been any other flavor, I think we'd have been fine. But not the one flavor we both thought sounded gross. (And just for you detectives out there, when I made the earlier comment about the Jalapeno Chocolate flavor sounding disgusting, I hadn't pressed the red button yet - so they couldn't have heard me say "Jalapeno Chocolate" and gotten confused. Unless of course they can hear you in your car even before you press the red button -- in which case there's an even more disturbing issue that needs to be addressed.) Surely people don't really order that flavor, do they? So we called the server back and explained the situation, and he took the shakes away. Another really long wait went by, and the server finally came out with two new shakes - one large and one small. I tasted mine, and it wasn't the Peanut Butter Fudge Shake I'd originally ordered (I think it might have been Cookie Dough), but after sitting there so long, I was okay with it. My girlfriend took a drink of hers, and said it was fine. After the server left, she said, "I lied. They brought me another Jalapeno Chocolate." I said, "You're kidding me! Why didn't you say so when the server was here?" She said, "I didn't want to make a big production out of it and sit here another 20 minutes and wait for another one. I've lost my taste for a shake anyway." So she got out of the car and threw it away, even though she'd only taken a sip or two. In the end we waited about 45 minutes to get two shakes, and they got all 4 attempts (2 trips with 2 shakes each) wrong in some form or fashion. So that was our first visit. And even still I was not deterred from my love for Sonic! As we were driving away, I said, "Just give them some time. They'll get it all worked out." Even so, we waited over a month before we went back. It was a nice day and we wanted to go for a walk (yes, through Uptown) and sit outdoors. Sonic seemed like a good choice. The second time the service had gotten significantly better, but once again, the food was... yuck. Still not completely thwarted, we waited a month or two and gave it a third shot. "Surely they have all the wrinkles ironed out by now," we thought. Nope. Just as bad. My girlfriend, who'd said she was starving, barely ate half of her meal and said she was too grossed out to eat any more. I finished mine, but with it came a big side of self-loathing. I don't know what the Uptown Sonic does different than every other Sonic I've ever been to (and I've been to more than my fair share), but their food just isn't the same. It tastes (even more) artificial and low-quality than any other fast food chain I can think of. So today for lunch we just needed to get something, quick, close and inexpensive. In the end we narrowed it down to either Sonic or McDonalds. I can honestly and unequivocally say that at no other point in my life have I uttered the phrase, "Ummmm... I think I'd rather have McDonalds." But today I did. My girlfriend agreed and that's where we went -- instead of Sonic, one of my favorite chains, which is right next door. The worst. If I could give 0 stars I would. There are just no words to describe how excruciatingly terrible the service is at this location. And this is not just one experience, it's several. It blows my mind that I even continue to try and come back to this location. Every single employee acts like they are too good for their job and you never get your food in under 30 min. Sad group of individuals working the drive through. First time there, after sitting in the drive through for over 20 minutes, the girl handed me an incomplete order 3 times. First time we were short 2 sandwiches and cheesecake bites. Then she says sorry here you go. We check and we are still short to sandwiches then she finally hands us those. We leave to find age never gave us any of our drinks. This place is a joke. I can only imagine the job interviews, but I doubt there were any, as this staff didn't seem like they could tie their own shoes. But look at the block they put it on. read more

My wife and I are huge Sonic fans. We love going to them every time we go on a trip out of town. I have been to a LOT of different Sonics, and this is the first time I have ever written a review for one. When this Sonic was coming to town, to say we were excited would be greatly understating it. We went on opening day, and have been back at least a half dozen times since. Each time I get a little more disappointed with everything about this Sonic. To start, the service is horrendously slow. When I say slow, I mean it took them 10 minutes to fulfill a drink order when we had no other cars in front of us in the drive through. We ordered two route 44s. Also, the accuracy is pretty awful. I had to repeat my order 3 times at the drive through, wait for confirmation between each item which took another minute (I think they have issues entering it into the register) then they messed up my wife's order of a cranberry limeade twice. The first two times it was pure cranberry juice, then I told them how to make it and they got it right. Lastly, on two separate occasions I have witnessed employees screaming and yelling at each other inside. It's not fun to have that drive through window open and the first thing you hear is a string of curse words being flung around in the back between people. I would like to say these are isolated incidents, but each time I have been here there has been major problems. Our orders are almost always two drinks, and maybe a side or two, nothing special. I do not know who manages this location, but if you allow your employees to behave the way they do, then I wouldn't trust them to make my food in the future, and I rarely have a half hour to devote to getting a drink order fulfilled. Tonight I sat at the drive through for 10 minutes, someone finally asked to take my order, I ordered the first drink then they said hold on, and I never heard from them again. I waited 5 more minutes, then pulled around to a car stall. Tried to order that way, no response, went inside and everyone was in there wanting to know where their food was. I just walked right back out and left, as I could hear more screaming from the back. I don't know if these people are undertrained, too immature to handle a job, or overworked, but this is certainly the worst Sonic I have ever been to, which is unfortunate because it's 10 minutes away from my home. Perhaps Sonic will remain just a place we go to on trips. The worse food and service experience ever! I waited 25 minutes outside in my vehicle before I decided to walk inside and ask for my food. There were several disgruntled people in there asking for their food and complaining that their orders were wrong. Finally my carhop came out with my order and said he apologized for taking too long because he was on his break. Unfortunately the young man and the whole kitchen area he came out of reeked like marijuana. Everyone in there was stoned. I'm talking baked more than the food they supposed to be cooking. This place has no management, organization or direction. All employees are in slow-motion and stoned. I was curious if Cheech and Chong was up in there. Horrible service, horrible dirty dining area, horrible wait for food, horrible unsafe neighborhood. Visited here after lunch rush on a Friday. Five people were behind the counter, two registers manned. First register told me the other register would take my order, person manning the other register wouldn't even acknowledge I was there. Gave up without ordering. Just went for second time. Got free blue raspberry slush for downloading app. Delish. Also their buy one get one free boneless wings deal is over but the manager is still honoring this week. Wow this place is horrible. I LOVE sonic, but this place really needs new employees and management. As I sat outside eating my food two employees sat outside complaining about working and talking about a "dick" burger. WTF dude? I'm trying to eat, not hear about gross as shit or hear you try to pick up some chick with your lame ass pick up lines. Worst customer service I think I've ever experienced. I had to go back up to the counter three different times for my food to come out right. All I ordered was a #1 add jalapeños, which I paid extra to have added. I had no other modifications to my order, but they couldn't seem to get that right. I realize this location is in a ghetto area, but come on sonic. I'm from Texas and I'm used to going to sonic, but I'm not too sure I'll be back to this location. I had never been to a Sonic before so my expectations were set high by their commercials. When am I going to learn that advertising always fools you? The food is okay and I was disappointed to try my first Cherry Limeade because it was without the lime wedge. So what if there is a lime shortage. You'd think that if a major chain restaurant was opening their first Chicago store they would foot the bill for more expensive limes. The peanut butter fudge shake tasted like a Girl Scout Tagalong dream so they gained a star. They lost a star for the lengthy wait. Three strikes, and you are out! That is within two weeks! If I came back one more time then perhaps I should just try the Cherry Lemonade. Services very slow, disorganized and unprofessional. On second trip there was one young gentleman accepting payments who expressed concerns for the customer.. Until the persons who completed the orders incorrectly undo all the work that the young gentlman had done to help the customer. For that reason only (to see him again and thank him given the chaos created by the co-workers). He was not there. The orders were taken incorrectly. Finally, when the person passed to me someone's credit card instead of asking for mine to payment, I just shifted to drive and left. (I left the other customer's card with the one who passed it to me). Unless Corporate takes note ... However, the MOD was very nice and apologetic when I called to complain about his employee, Nequasia, whom had zero costumer service skills. Nope. There's a McDonald's next door...go there if you actually want good burgers or pop that doesn't taste like ass. Way, way, waaaaay over priced fast food. Not only is it overpriced but they never get your order right. Try it out sometime, order more than two items and somehow they will screw up the order. Disappointing!!! My cheeseburger didn't look fresh at all. I ordered cheese fries but somehow the screen has tater tots so i asked the girl working if she got that I wanted fries. Her answer "yes" what did they give me? Tater tots!!! I came back 2 seconds later, waited almost 5 min for crappy fries with what seemed to be melted slices of cheddar cheese. Sonic Drive-In - The Worst cheese fries I've ever had - Burgers Near Me - Chicago, Illinois

Ok so this was my second visit. The first time I came was at around 6 pm. The food was less than ok and I waited 20 minutes to get it, but at least it was hot and sort of fresh. This time it's around 2:30 and my food came out in less than a minute. But it was cold and they made a mistake on my burger. I ordered a chicken strip combo and a burger. They had I sign for 1/2 price burgers on Tuesday so I had to indulge. I ordered it with only ketchup and mustard but it had pickles and lettuce too. It was so cold that the cheese was not melted and tasted old. I tossed that and moved on to the chicken strips. Cold and leathery is the best description. Never again. read more

Went thru the drive-thru this eve. Ordered chicken club toaster & sm chili cheese fries. Got home, saw there was no tomato on sandwich. Called them; spoke w/mgr Robert, who was really nice & immed asked for my name & told me that they would give me a replacement when I came back. So far, so good. Then I bit into the sandwich, & it's hard to describe the texture of the "chicken" because I've never experienced anything like it (& I've been around for awhile). It's not that it was dry or just tough normal meat; it was as if a bunch of knuckle-sized pieces of gristle had been formed into a patty. After first bite, I picked apart the rest w/my fingers., then tossed it. This was the weirdest piece of meat I've ever had; I really questioned whether I was actually eating food. And the lettuce was scarce and old-tasting and swimming in a lake of mayo. I asked for onions on my fries; they had that slightly nauseating over-the-hill-onion flavor. I'm sorry to have to say this, but I'm sure the quality that almost everyone describes here is due to the fact that, although there are a lot of gentrifiers in the area, there are also a lot of poor people, & I think the franchisee figures that he/she can get away w/dishing out any old thing (and is getting away w/it). It's a piss-poor showing for the only Sonic in the city. Left a comment w/Sonic corporate, because I, like everyone else, am mystified by how they can let this go on; this location is a very bad ambassador for their brand. read more

An update: since the first time I came here, they seem to have hired new cashiers. They are actually quite friendly now. The hard part is actually getting one to help you. They stopped having someone behind the register all the time, and instead put a bell for you to ring. It seems like they have enough staff, I counted 6 on my visit. They seemed to congregate behind the kitchen door to chat. The problem is when they are in the back and not watching the dining room, people come in off the street and beg for money. Not cool. This franchisee needs to learn how to run a restaurant. It's unfortunate. The food is great, it's just not worth the hassle. read more

Worst service! Got some food and the worker bought it out. She read the receipt of all our items and gave my boyfriend the bags of food. We got home and realized they forgot to put in our wings we ordered. Called the place and they said "oh yea we forgot them they are sitting here for when you want to come get them". We drove back and we had to wait so long to finally get some service. Never going back to this place again!! They are very unprofessional there and are not willing to help customers. read more
