First off , I love Sonic I was super excited that we were getting a location in Alaska . But , the service sucks ! Long waits ,cold food , messed up drinks, always out of common menu items, rarely have promo items that they list on the menu board. Overall it's very disappointing, I keep going back hoping it's just new store issues and that they will work it out . Today we went in for lunch about 1/2 the stalls were full and about 6 cars in the drive through . After waiting for 25 minutes for someone to answer the call button we decided to leave . It was so disappointing coming here. I love Sonic! Used to live in Vegas and Sonic was just around the corner from where we lived. It was always our go to for quick, cheap & yummy appetizers/sides. Onion rings were always a good choice. After finding out Sonic was coming to Alaska. I was all for it. Excitement went down the drain fast. Don't care about the long line. Don't care about the horrible unfinished parking area. The food was horrible. It's as if it was a totally different chain. I'll give them another shot maybe a few months later. Well this is the third time I've been to sonic since they opened and the first time was great food was fresh and hot, the second time my popcorn chicken was so dry and hard I couldn't eat it so I thought maybe it was a fluke and tried it today for a third time and it's still terrible, my popcorn chicken is super dry and barely warm; my husbands cheesy bacon dog was a sad sight the bacon was hardly chopped and left in big chunks and the tiniest little line of cheese. So, I have been only twice, and the first time I went, I was there 3 hours, which can be expected from a newly opened fast food place, Wendy's takes 30 minutes at least, and it been around a while. My first experience there was not so good, they had forgotten to give(not get) me my milkshake I had ordered, the worker had it in her hand, and then set it down and gave me the rest of my meal, and I left with out realizing. My second visit was significantly better, I was there less than 45 minutes, and had a car full of people, got all of the food, at a wayyyy good price. Overall I think it is worth the wait, and once McDonalds is back the wait will be even shorter at Sonic. read more

Hawaii is still waiting for a Sonic's to open up shop. Rumor has it that an ex-NFL player was supposed to open the first one in Hawaii, but we're still waiting. So when my group from Hawaii was visiting Alaska for the first time, we had it in mind to try out the only Sonic in Wasilla which was the closest to where we were staying Eagle River which was about a 20 minute drive. The first time we went together, but the second time I stayed behind in the AirBnB while the rest of my friends went. Both visits were done at almost closing time. Well, that's the wrong time to go there because there was a long wait for our orders. The first time we went, we did several separate orders, yet everything was combined into one bill. The food definitely wasn't fresh such as the burger I ordered. The burger patty just tasted old, like it was sitting in the warmer. The only thing I enjoyed was my cherry limeade drink. Compared to the other Sonics I have visited in California and Arizona, this one is much cleaner and newer, however the service and sadly the food was just bleh. read more

I wish Yelp could let us use negative stars. After trying Sonic numerous times since opening week, I've simply given up. We went last night and were the 4th car in line at 9:30pm and the other 3 had already ordered. Only half the drive up stalls (or less) were being occupied, and I don't think anyone was inside. It still took 30 minutes to get our food, and when we got it, it was DISGUSTING. First, even though we made it abundantly clear AGAIN that there was to be NO MAYO on the burger and the crispy sandwich, and the order window reflected that statement, yet again they decided to drown both of them in a Sea of mayonnaise. You could actually see the influence the moons gravity had on that amount of Mayo. Pathetic. Next, we ordered 3 orders of mozzarella sticks, a 3 piece tenders and a 5 piece tenders. OK, if you give us mozzarella sticks, and the marinara cup that sits out all day at room temperature is hotter than the cheese sticks, you have a major issue. We took 2 bites of the tenders, and damn near gagged. They were colder than the cheese sticks and that wasn't even the worst part. The Atacama desert in South America gets more moisture than what was inside these chicken tenders, and it hasn't even rained in the Atacama desert in recorded history. Congratulations Sonic of Wasilla, your chicken tenders just unseated the Atacama desert as the driest place on earth. Just board the place up already so that spirit Halloween has a spot to work out of in a few months. What you call food is a culinary atrocity. Day old food in the McDonalds dumpster has more redeeming qualities than what you put on a tray. read more

My boyfriend and I stopped by sonic since we aren't in The Valley very offen and ordered ahead using the app. The first time they brought out our order they had forgotten the bacon and put onions on both of them. Only one was supposed to have onions. The guy who delivered our food came out and told us they'd remake our food. My boyfriend asked him if they'd been busy to day and he laughed and said no. He came back out again to confirm what was ordered on the receipt should be on the burgers. We told him yes and he came back out with our order the second time. Forgot the pickles and still put onions on both. Tried to call the store twice to speak to a manager and was sent to voicemail both time. Visited about a month ago and after a long wait we received cold un-inspiring food. Thursday I decided to give it another try, especially since the hotdog special supported the troops. Ordered five chili dogs at the drive in and then sat in the line over 20 minutes (for four cars?) because "a person's order was mixed up". When I arrived at the pick-up window I was asked what I had ordered. After a couple more minutes she returned and asked me again "what did you order?" Wow. Rather than sit there while they searched for five cold hotdogs and rubbery fries, I left and had a wonderful meal at McDonald's. There are easier ways to support my fellow veterans. read more

Let me start by saying I love Sonic. This Sonic however needs new management. There clearly isn't any quality control happening. We have made two attempts at giving this location a try before completing this review. Initially we waited for the lines to die down. First try pulled right into a stall without having to wait in any line assuming this was a good sign. No luck there. Made the mistake of turning off the car and listening to the radio while we waited to order and get our food. To so long that my battery was actually dead by the time our food got to us. Order was wrong when we got it and had to wait even longer to get it corrected. When we did get the food the cheese sticks looked and tasted like they had been deep fried three times. Fast forward to today. Hoping that the first time was a fluke we tried to go again today. Again pulled right into a stall as there were three open and only a few cars in the drive thru. Again took much longer than it should have to get our order in and food. Bag arrived with our receipt attached and not one item in the bag was something that we ordered. Had to then wait a long time for the red button to be answered. Informed them that our order was wrong. They came out to get the bag we had. After some time they came out with another bag stating our bag got mixed up. After digging in found that now the bacon I paid extra for was missing so again had to wait a long time for someone to answer the red button for that to get corrected. Now we finally have everything we ordered. After learning our lesson with the cheese sticks last time we had ordered onion rings. The onion rings were so burnt that they were for the most part inedible. All said and done looks like I will have to get my Sonic fix when I visit the lower 48. Very disappointing. read more

I have been to sonic many times and even worked as a carhop back in the days of roller skates so I thought I would stop in even though restaurant chains usually are lacking when they come to AK. The website says they are open until 2 am, I am a night owl and to miss the crowd I stop in at 1030 pm only to find the drive through closed off and no one answering the phones. Very disappointing but sadly not surprising. I won't be making a second attempt. And I won't be telling people to come here any longer either!!!! Get it together guys- it's not rocket science! Absolutely amazing. Pulled into the Drive Up/Parking area. There was only one other vehicle under the canopy and a small drive thru line. Hit the "red button" multiple times for service and waiting for 7-mins for someone to respond. Then it took an astronomically long time for our 2 orders, as the drive they people kept streaming by. This isn't a COVID issue so you can't blame that. It's a piss poor management issue. read more

Terrible. We showed up way prior to closing and they still were taking customers. It took an extra 40 minutes for 5 cars to get through the drive thru. By the time we got to the speaker, they had closed down everything. Let us wait almost an hour in line and refused to serve anything. Ice cream was shut down, grill was shut down(even though they could give us a burger) and more. The entire restaurant was shut down basically even though they had us continue to wait in line for almost an hour. We ordered ahead for pickup via the mobile app. We placed our order about the time we got in line and pulled into a stall 10 minutes later to check in. An HOUR later, we were still in our stall waiting for our food. We started asking for an update on our order by pushing the red button and AND calling and speaking to someone over the phone. We were told 3 times that our order was ready and that someone would bring it out. In one case, we were told they had to remake some of our order...After an hour and 20 min, our food finally came. Most of it was cold. We were offered no discount or apology for the delay. When we checked our order, we were missing an applesauce for the baby and 2 blasts...it took another 10 minutes to get those items and still no apology or discount. With all 4 little kids crying, our fun night out turned pretty miserable. The kids asked to never go back there again. I just want to say before I start I do give places three chances to win me over an keep coming back before I give a review so I know how the service is as well as the quantity an quality of the food an establishment. I go twice in one week an then once after a month or two to see if it has improved or not. Everyone in Wasilla an anchorage seemed very excited about the new Sonic coming to town. Then it was finally here. I have gone twice now, an sadly both times I wasn't impressed with the efficiency, quality or portion size of the food. The first time I went. I chose the Drive-through. The wait was about 45 minutes long, with only four cars in front of me. I thought it was way to long it was kind of frustrating. I finally ordered I received my food maybe 15 minutes after ordering my food an just the appearance of it did not look attractive . I ordered a crispy chicken sandwich, large thing of mozzarella sticks, an one strawberry milkshake. Sandwich was plane kind of tasteless lots of mayo or mayonnaise I couldn't tell the difference Mozzarella sticks were dripping with grease from the fryer, cold small portions, not very good it tasted stale as if it had been sitting there for a few days Really salty the shake Seemed like artificial flavor quite thick but the straw was week so it became very hard to get the shake through. I didn't like it. It was really fatty it was what you would expect from a fast food restaurant. Second time I went to sonic I chose to go inside again the wait was very long had about six people in front of me took about 30 to 45 minutes to finally order food and sit down the place itself on the Inside Was dirty trash on the booth dirty table top doesn't look like anybody cleaned it since it opened The woman at the cash register did not seem to be Trained or used to the cash register or the computer So orders were taking forever things were being sent to the wrong people and things were missing from orders or wrong orders. What I saw was inexperienced clientele that have no experience in workspace hygiene And again the food was horrible. I personally would won't be recommending this place to anyone I know. Me and my friend made the horrible decision to go to Sonic for drinks. We waited in line for an hour! It was surprising they even had a line which gave us a glimmer of hope. Sadly, they let us down again...when we finally got up to order, they took forever to answer us and I wasn't even sure if they heard me because they weren't responding. We ordered TWO drinks, an iced coffee and peach tea. We continued waiting then finally made it to the service window. I gave them $7.50 for my order which was $7.49, they gave me a nickel back?? She told me goodnight and shut the window before I even got the chance to say "you too!" or anything. We drove away and tried our drinks and to no suprise, they were as flavorless as the servers personality. They were iced down and watery, the coffee had little taste and the "peach tea" was literally water with a hint of peach. read more

One star only because I couldn't give it a zero. If you're in the business of selling tater tots and you can't even get that right then you really don't deserve a star. We waited exactly two hours in line before we finally were able to retrieve our order. I'll be fair though, we wanted to try it and were willing to suffer the wait, the problem was/is that this place is being overwhelmed with the amount of people trying to order something and the food quality (as much as can be expected from a fast food joint) and attention to detail suffer because of it. My bacon burger looked like it was stepped on and when I opened it, everything was just stuck to the wrapper. Not to mention, there was no bacon to be found in it and my wife's burger wasn't any better. The chili coney dog and the Chicago were both flat out terrible. Boiled 6" hotdogs with one of them having processed cheese that reminded us of hardened candle wax and the other with so much crap covering it that you don't even really taste the hot dog. The fact that they opened the (currently) only Sonic location in Wasilla is mindboggling. The hour drive was essentially worth it to get to spend time with a friend, and to say we'd gone. We waited in line at the drive thru for an hour (there was no chance in hell we were getting a car port spot) and although that seems like a long time, based on how many people were there, it was actually remarkably quick. The food was pretty cheap, and the service was friendly enough. The main time service suffered was when they had the only guy running the drive thru also running food to the car ports, meaning he was just up and gone for 5 minutes at a time? instead of having someone fill in for him while he was gone, we literally sat and watched our food sit there in the window. The food was pretty good, if it's something you think you'll enjoy. Keep in mind its all pretty heavy. I doubt I'll be going back unless they open one that isn't a whole two hour drive there & back. read more
