This place specializes in aged pork. We ordered set B and thought it was recently delicious. They brought out the meat and have us check the aged date, which is something that many other restaurants don't do. The meat was juicy and chewy. I like how they have a metal rack to let the meat cool after cooking, but at the same time, to keep it warm so we can take our time to eat. The soup that came with the set was delicious. The minus star is for the slippery floors. I almost tripped a few times because of how much oil there was. I know that pork extract a lot more oil, but still should maintain safety. Tips: 1) If you show them your yelp review, they will give you some type of egg dish. At least that was what one of the waiters there told me. 2) You can't replace anything in the menu. We tried to replace the stew with a noodle dish (same price) but they said no. 3) For safety from the slippery floors, wear shoes. Don't wear flats, slippers, high heals, etc. read more

This is my new go to place if I'm craving pork belly. I ordered Combo B for a party of 2 and it left both of us stuffed! The pork belly and pork neck were the stars of the show. The meat was so juicy and cooked to perfection. Our server was so kind and really informed us on how to enjoy all the sides and sauces they offer. The server was very attentive and it was really comfortable since we didn't have to worry about cooking the meat and there was no awkward silence of watching them cook the meat and dip. Our server kept us entertained and added to the experience. I really loved the kimchi soup that came with the combo as well and you definitely need to ask for a ton of their mountain garlic side dish you wrap your pork belly in! After a long Saturday trip, my sister, SO and I were really craving some good kbbq. Our usual place had an hour plus wait but it looked like we got to Sookdal just as they started seating for dinner so there was only a few minutes wait to be seated. The menu looked great and sides were fine. Things were off to a good start with pork belly that they cook for you so you don't have to worry if it's done yet. The reason why I'm giving two stars is because we love brisket. We ordered the A combo (pork and brisket) plus an extra plate of brisket, and we didn't think to say anything when they started cooking the brisket while we were still working on the pork belly. By the time we could get to the brisket, it was cold, hard and dry. There was barely any flavor to the meat, which wasn't much helped by the mild dips they had - a sweet chili (?) paste, sesame oil and garlic, wasabi, and dry salt that we finished pretty quickly. It'd have been great if I could taste the extra salt I was feeling for having $29 added to our bill for the extra brisket. We're not ones to waste, so we worked through two servings of cold beef, which by the end of our meal had turned into crumbling kibble that broke apart as we picked it up. After we went home, all three of us had awful food poisoning and were spending our night (and the next morning) facing the consequences of finishing our meal. It's a real shame because the Korean cold noodle, kimchi and bean soups, and pork belly tasted great. It could've really been something special. :( read more

If you love pork, you need to come here! I've tried combo C and D split between 2 people and it's really filling. You really can tell that they specialize in pork because the beef here is not as good tbh. All the sides and the kimchi stew was delicious. I loved how the pork came with pineapple and cheese squares. it really enhances the pork flavor! The pork itself was so amazing. Literally i'm obsessed! The service was excellent. 5 stars for the food! -1 stars for the ventilation. Been to almost all the KBBQ joints in Ktown, where I live. I would say Sookdal had good quality thick cut pork belly. Loved the myung-e namool banchan that other restaurants don't usually give to wrap around and eat with your gogi. Overall a good experience only if the restaurant had better ventilation. was extremely disappointed by sookdal - wish i could have tried the food, which is likely good, but i never got the chance. i came here with my family during a trip to disneyland on a glowing recommendation from a friend who used to live in the area. when we arrived, the restaurant was near empty. however, there was a clipboard in the front with some parties' names on it (with no restaurant staff attending to it), so we popped our heads in and asked if we should also put our names down. we were then very rudely told that we needed to do so before coming in, which... is fine, still, at that point. i thought this was strange but not enough to go elsewhere (because we were really looking forward to this meal). we put our names down (outside...), and told them how big our party was (eight), and the servers then told us we wouldn't be able to sit together. however, due to the configuration of the tables and the amount of space (since the restaurant, again, was near empty...) we asked if it would just be possible at all to bring another chair over and that it wouldn't necessarily even need access to the main grill. we had also discussed just splitting up (in view of the servers) before asking, but thought we would just in case. at this point, they then basically made it very clear that that was NOT something they would do and if we had a problem, we should leave and go to another restaurant. which - thankfully - we did. we had an amazing meal at gaenali bon ga nearby. however, it was incredibly upsetting to be treated so rudely and badly twice when we were here to have a nice meal, and for... asking clarifying questions about the sign-up process? then wanting to uh, eat together as a family on a family vacation? this was seriously not the way to handle this no matter how i look at it. i have no idea why these servers acted the way they did and find it seriously inexcusable no matter what the reason was. i thought i had hallucinated what happened and confirmed with my brother and sister afterwards that yes, they were being extremely rude from the moment we arrived for no apparent reason. again, it's very possible they thought this was justified, but it just reminds me of why i prize kind, thoughtful servers so much and always try to note this in yelp reviews (+ praise people who def need to be praised and call out those who should be called out). we will definitely never come back and, when i shared this story with the friend who recommended sookdal to me, our friends unfortunately never will either. after this review, i'm glad to leave this event in the past as a bad memory. read more

Came to eat at this restaurant after playing Golf with friends. We ordered the pork and beef combo, and the food along with side dishes were so delicious. The pork is wet aged and the beef brisket was well marbled and good quality. The side dishes nearly stole the show, pickled banchan and the creamy risotto along with soy bean stew were on point. Food flavors and the pickled banchan paired so well with meat. Lastly, the cold kimchi radish noodles was the best way to end the meal. Must check this place out! read more

Just tried this restaurant for the first time and couldn't wait to go home and rave about it on Yelp. The service was amazing. The food quality was high and portions were very filling. Plates are available a la carte or in a pre-set combo. The food server will cook all the meat for you. Our server was super informative and helpful, we had a lot of questions since it was our first time and she made great recommendations on how to eat the food/combos. The service was so great, it's made it into my top 5 all time prime examples of good food service. The pork meat is such high quality and flavorful, I really recommend it with the cheese on top. We used to be regulars, but recently we've noticed a huge drop in the quality of all the food served. The risotto is lumpy and dry, the pork (which is what they're known for obviously) cooks down much more gray and chewy, and the side dishes taste old and almost recycled. We walk out feeling like a greasy pork belly but have absolutely no regrets. We usually come with a group of about 4 and get one of the combinations and an add on meat. They are mostly known for their pork. They will cook it for you at a separate table because of covid. The ban chan is sooo good and works well to cut the fat of the pork and beef. Favorite meat is probably the pork belly and pork neck. The meat is good but don't sleep on the kimchi stew - probably my favorite thing there. So this place took me too long to visit but I finally made it. As my last restaurant before quarantine I chose this place. As always I ordered most items on the menu to see what their strong and weaknesses are. And I was K.O for first time in a long time. Combo C with 3types of pork and 1 beef (which allowed most of things on menu to be sampled) Risotto. Cold noodles. Served with endless side dishes that accommodate the main so well. The risotto was so good and I wanted another one togo at the end. At first sight of the cold noodle, I was little disappointed that the ice weren't soft crushed ice but didn't matter once I took my bite. Noodles were cooked to perfection until last bite and soup was so refreshing and beyond satisfying. I can't emphasize how good everything was!!! Even all the banchan were great which is rare at restaurants. Hands down the BEST Korean bbq place in the 50miles radius of me. The BEST. You can see the servers diligently cooking the meat by the side. It must be hard trying to cook all those meat. Anyways, the meat was delicious. I have not had pork belly meat so fat and juicy before. I wrapped it on the garlic leaves and mmmm.. so good! The portions look a bit small. But it was enough to feed both of us. This is one of my favorite KBBQ places at the moment. They serve good quality meat - if you love pork as much as I do, you have to try this place. Have awesome risotto - if you like cheesy anything, this is a must. Pickles to accompany KBBQ are great, and service is always swift and friendly.
