Great quality, amazing prices and Soon and her husband are warm hosts. Our 11 and 7 year old love sharing a Bento chicken teriyaki box and we love the sushi. Also if you like spicy there are some great Korean specialties like KimChee and Bugloki. We like going mid-week because weekends can be busy. Another tough one to review. The good: the real deal in sushi. I've had better in larger cities, but this would certainly qualify as the second tier even in LA, Chicago, NY. The owner handmakes each piece while you wait. The bad: The wait is nearly unbearable. It took 3 hours+ to eat here on a Thursday night. If you have that kind of time, then by all means: go there. My recommendation would be to scope out the room. If it is busy, leave and come back another day. If not, feel free to try it out. Just getting the check took 25 minutes when we were done. By that point we were laughing and having a good time, so it didn't matter, but part of what we were laughing about was just how slow things were. Basically, 4 stars if you have a lot of time on your hands. 2 stars if you want to eat in an hour. Average them out for my score. read more

Only in Kenosha can this place get (the current) 4.5 stars. On the plus side, they use thicker piece of fish on their sushi than usual, but that could actually be a negative due to the following: They don't vinegar their rice enough and I only noticed that there was a trace of wasabi between the rice and the fish because most of them fell apart due to the sushi not being squeezed properly. So you either eat a very bland piece of sushi or dunk it in soy sauce to compensate while tasting mostly soy sauce. Apparently, their fried sushi is better and their "Kenosha roll" is just that, but I don't go to a sushi place for fried fish unless it's tempura and it's what cheap sushi buffets do to get rid of their old fish that's about to go bad. Their Korean food was okay, but way overpriced. For example, the $14-$16 for a dol-sot bibimbab? They usually go for under $10 in the cities, and it would come with an array of about 5 banchan (side dishes) and a small bowl of guk (soup) . There's no reason why it should cost more in Kenosha while getting less: The rent is cheaper, labor is cheaper, and ingredients cost about the same. The decor is cheesy to anyone who knows that there are difference between Asian cultures. It's called a "sushi" cafe, which is distinctively Japanese, but the logo is the Ho-Do-Ri which was the Korean mascot for the '88 Olympics. The centerpiece of the display is a Korean woman's traditional dress (Han-Bok). That's like calling yourself a French cafe with a bagpipe logo and a kilt as your centerpiece decor. read more

Such fantastic food for such a reasonable price. The rolls are large, and all of the other dishes have similarly large portions. The squid salad, miss soup, and rainbow roll are all my favorites. The staff is very friendly and accommodating. There can be quite a wait for sushi, so plan your lunch or dinner accordingly. The wait is well worth it as the sushi is beautifully made and presented. This little hidden gem has received the 1st place for the best Sushi in the Milwaukee area for the last five years. The restaurant is literally hidden and you must be looking for it to find it. It isn't pretty or elegant, but the sushi is out of this world. The squid salad is excellent. My favorite rolls are the Spice Tuna, Rainbow, Super Bawl, and Red Fire. The prices are on the mid to high range, but they have an inexpensive called Hand Roll. It is Spice Tuna inside in a sewed rap. It is good and worth trying it. The Sashimi is excellent too. They have a variety of other dishes, but I never go there for anything, but sushi. read more

Soon's doesn't have atmosphere, trendy decorations, etc... that you typically find in sushi restaurants. But at the end of the day, the food is what matters and in this area Soon's excels. My fiance and I made our first visit to Soon's recently after reading reviews on Yelp and we weren't disappointed. The owner even talked to us several times and told us about things on the menu and recommended a great squid salad for an appetizer. We will be back again. One note is that the sushi does take a while to come out, so order and appetizer or call your order in ahead of time if you are in a hurry. read more

I found this place on yelp. I still was shocked when I got to this place. Even after being told it was a little hole in the wall. Neighbor hood is not the best, but I had no problems. They were just finishing my order when I got there a little early. Staff was very friendly. The prices were great, and the sushi was even better. This will be my go to place for sushi. None of my friends like sushi, so it's great to find a place that does carry out. They do have other thing on the menu, so I may take a friend and do a sit down for dinner one night. Great Food, Great Staff! This is not a fancy place by any means. And it's not cheap. But the food is excellent. I arrived about 10 minutes before the kitchen closed, and they held it open so that I could place my order. Most places would not have done that. The location and the ambience of the place lead me to be wary of the food I might get, but we were pleasantly surprised that the sushi is pretty tasty. The rolls are huge, almost too big if you ask me, but I guess for the higher than usual price I paid for the rolls I am glad I got my moneys worth. The nude roll is ok, the kenosha roll is delicious (and huge!), the pa jun appetizer (shrimp and scallion korean pancake) was good but greasy. If I were in the chicago suburbs, I would give this place 3 stars but the fact that i can find this good quality sushi in Kenosha gives it a 4. Honada rolls are not as good as Soon's. The next time I order from Soon's, I will get it to go and skip the dining room that feels like a converted travel agency (although Soon herself was very welcoming and bubbly). read more

Being from out of town, I'm surprised how much better the Korean food here is compared to the one I went to in Milwaukee and I think that means a lot. The kimchi bibimbop was tasty... I'm glad they gave us extra pepper paste on the side. The spicier the better! The sushi was ok but the owner was so nice and friendly. We asked her to make something off the menu and she was so nice to have someone make it for us. They don't serve straight up Korean food but also Japanese so I guess it fits the needs of the area. The location itself is in a neighborhood. It looks like it used to be a bar. It's not the most trendiest place to eat. It's a hole in the wall mom and pop restaurant, typical Asian restaurant so don't expect it to look fancy. I would recommend going to this restaurant for food and service but not for the environment. read more

Don't get the appeal of this place... Probably due to the fact that it's the only place in town for sushi. The restaurant felt a little dirty to me and when you're having raw fish you want it to be immaculate. The pieces of sushi where enormous. Too big too eat in one bite and the last thing you want to do is try to bite off a piece. They do give you a lot for the price but the quality and variety is just ok. This place didn't not look like much from the outside, but what a gem! Loved the rolls we ordered! Such beautiful big pieces of fish. The only thing I didn't like was the vegetable and shrimp tempura. The batter had no flavor and neither did the dipping sauce. The wait staff was friendly and attentive. The men's room was not very clean, but the women's room was not bad, just felt old. This will be a favorite place we will gladly make the 40 min drive for when we want some quality sushi. read more

Went there with a group of three. Two of us ordered hot dishes, the third ordered sushi. Apparently there absolutely ZERO understanding of how to prioritize portions of an order so EVERYTHING can come out at once. The two hot dishes came out at the same time, and in a reasonable amount of time, even with the place being a bit busy. 35 minutes later, after the other food was very cold, the sushi had still not arrived. What sort of nonsense is that? When talking to the "waitress" about it, her response was to act in a manner I'm probably not allowed to describe accurately on here, but essentially she was EXCEPTIONALLY unprofessional. EWWW! I have only been here once and I will not go back. I ordered the pork bulgoi with rice and I was grossed out. I am Korean so I've tasted good pork bulgoi and this is not even close to being good. The marinade was not at all spicy (all the other places make it a bit spicy) and the rice was old! I grew up with a rice cooker so I know what old rice looks and tastes like. The rice was turning a yellowy orange color when it should be bright white and it had a weird smell/taste. If I want top notch sushi I'll go to Honda instead. If I want decent Korean food, I'll go down to Illinois rather than come back. read more

I am in love with this place. The owners are a husband and wife team, and all of the days, the wife Soon is there to greet you. The atmosphere is family friendly, with great music when it's occasionally played. The food is unique... if you don't like sushi, there's other sorts of korean and japanese cuisine in the menu that you can try. If you're feeling daring and experiemental, I recommend the Squid Salad and/or the Spicy Tuna Cocktail. They even have a sushi roll they wrap up in aluminum foil and set on fire in front of you. Want to kick back? They have these 2 martini flavors, one green tea and the other with plum sake and a several imported beers like Sapporo and Kirin. read more

Definately the best sushi around here till you get to Milwaukee!! Huge roll, fresh, great service, fast!! Plain and simple very delicious and satisfying!! Had the Monster roll with spicy crab on top, crab in the center with cucumber and i believe avocado. It was great!! Also since i love anything hot it was topped with a spicy mayo with a little drizzle of siracha chili sauce! Oh so good! We also had an Octopus roll with fresh slice octopus on top along with avocado and cucumber. Very nice texture, clean, fresh, and very tasty!! But remember.. Before you even get to the sushi you MUST try the squid salad!! It comes in a large martini glass filled to the top with amazing cold squid that was marinated in a mesquite seasoning!! It is so good i could've just had too of those and made it my meal! I even saw young kids ranging from 5-12 years in age just tearing this appetizer up. That, along with a friend's review of it sold me on this until i had it for myself. It is a definate try! Soon's has a nice sized menu too that appeals to the non sushi eater as well with their different dinner items. Finally the owners are very sweet, sincere, friendly, and accomodating. Their rolls are just so creative. Me and my girlfriend order from Soon's all the time! I'd recommend the Fire Scallop roll and the Phoenix roll. The Kenosha roll is also delicious, but it's huge and makes quite a mess while eating it. read more
