I had their ramen while waiting for my flight and it was okay. They weren't busy at all so there was no wait time which is a plus. The ramen tasted normal, portion was decent but on the pricier side. Some of the ingredients they added like the pickled vegetables, wasn't a huge fan of them but they tasted fine. The ramen broth wasn't as rich as I was hoping for in a ramen broth.

    Restaurant

Food was terrible - don't get the chicken teriyaki with the boiled baby carrots and broccoli with no seasoning! Worse - Service was terrible! No basic greeting, forgot to bring my drink. Just brought a cup of water. Waited 15 minutes for her to bring my check. Other servers couldn't ring me through because she had left the restaurant with her card. She finally returned gabbing on her phone about Japan like she was an expert. Still in spite of all this crummy food and service, I'm such a softy! I stupidly left a tip! -Would you?

Sora Sushi used to be my favorite spot for airport sushi, and the food itself still holds up. The salmon sushi is big, fresh, and delicious--though at $8 a piece, it's a splurge. I also tried the gyoza ramen, which leaned salty but was still flavorful. The problem is the service. I sat at the sushi bar, which hadn't been cleaned, and watched my sushi sit on the counter for nearly ten minutes before it made its six-foot journey to me. In an airport, that kind of indifference feels worse. Quickness matters here, but the staff just didn't seem to care. Great food, frustrating experience.

    "Miso" ramen

Please stay away, this place is not tasty at all :( Ordered the miso ramen and there was no flavor, like none. Super surprising. Take a look at the photos on yelp and you'll find a similar consensus about the food.

I stopped at Sora Sushi Bar while passing through the Detroit Airport. I understand airport dining is often hectic, but this place felt very understaffed. When I first walked in, I stood around for a while unsure if anyone was going to greet me. Eventually, one of the sushi chefs behind the bar told me to have a seat, so I sat down. It took about ten minutes before the waitress came over to take my order. The sushi itself came out quickly, but the drink took much longer. I could tell she was working hard since she appeared to be the only server on duty, but there was no clear sign or system for seating, which was confusing. While I was there I saw several other guests come in and hesitate, not knowing whether to seat themselves or wait. It felt a little unorganized and off putting. I ordered one sushi roll and one beer and my bill came out to around forty four dollars plus tip. Definitely pricey for a single roll and drink, but to be fair the sushi roll was absolutely delicious. The quality and flavor were excellent and I would order it again. Overall, the sushi itself was great, but the lack of staffing, unclear seating process, and high prices made the experience less enjoyable than it could have been.

The line was a bit long, but the waitress was very kind and quick. At first glance, the ramen bowl looked a bit busy and I had hoped for more broth. But it's actually just the right amount. I didn't care for the bamboo shoots, and the gyoza was a bit tough, but the ramen and broth were quite tasty. Here's the menu online with hopefully more up-to-date pricing. https://cdn.flowcode.com/prodassets/0836_03_7803_DTW_Sora_Trifold_FNL.pdf?ts=1748619561&fce_id=5363cec5-2c41-4a63-ba33-897d0a19d4c1

    Tempura Udon $18 7/31/2024

Wednesday 7am. We were told by one staff that they will open at 7:30am. Another staff let us in when the other staff was gone. Had Tempura Udon. Soup broth had no flavor, so the entire udon had no taste. Costs $18. I will not be back.

    Philly roll with avocado

I was really looking forward to eating some sushi before my flight. I wanted to order a speciality roll but they told me that the sushi chef was new and couldn't make pretty much anything except the traditional rolls (Cali, Philly, etc). They couldn't even make the nigiri...I was pretty disappointed and ended up just getting a Philly roll. The service was so-so, one of the waiters was pretty responsive but the other one just looked over it. The prices are a bit outrageous. It was $7 for a miso soup, and specialty rolls are close to $30. Given the quality of the rolls I don't think this place is worth it for the sushi at least. They seem to have a ton of udon and ramen so maybe that might be your best bet instead. Overall, I don't think I would choose this place again if I were in the DTW airport.

Cold tempura shrimp roll ... you've been warned.
    John M.

Huge mistake. I usually get a ribeye when traveling through DTW but this trip I decided to mix things up and try the Sora sushi bar. I ordered a rainbow roll and a tempura shrimp roll, and neither was very impressive. The rainbow roll was substantially smaller than any rainbow roll I can remember having--heavy on rice, extremely light on everything else. But if that was the only issue, I'd probably have walked away and not posted anything. The real disappointment was the tempura shrimp roll. Generally speaking, when you order a tempura anything roll it's implied that the "anything" will be tempura fried, and thus the expectation is that you'll get a roll with hot tempura battered yumminess inside. Not at Sora. The tempura shrimp came straight from the refrigerator and onto the roll in its cold, congealed greasy state. One of the worst rolls I have had anywhere. And what was next level frustrating was my server, seeing I ate just one piece of the cold tempura shrimp roll, didn't acknowledge it, didn't ask if I enjoyed my meal, basically didn't care that I stopped by to give Sora a try. I won't be back.

Spicy ramen, agedashi tofu, and spicy lovely roll
    Masaru O.

I've been here many times over the years but this is my first visit in a while. I think they remodeled the space and the menu has changed quite a bit, it is much more limited than I remember from say 5 years ago. Agedashi tofu was decent, though the dashi taste could be better. It has a strange stretchy texture a bit like chewing gum. Spicy ramen oddly has some sweetness to it, and the broth doesn't taste quite right for ramen. I think it's lacking depth. Spicy lovely roll has a good amount of spice and is fairly large. Prices are quite high compared to what I remember before covid, this meal came to $65 before tip! I know it's the airport, but almost $25 for ramen? Overall it doesn't feel worth the price anymore.

The omakase is a must experience for any foodie and especially for anyone who loves sushi & yakitori! Came here for the first time 4 years ago, and again a few weeks ago. What struck me is that the same head sushi chef was there then and now and that they haven't really changed the menu too much. Yes absolutely there were new and creative twists, but there are tried and true staples which have been mastered. That feels like their vibe overall - friendly, neighborly, confidence in what they have and will keep doing what they're doing, seemingly resisting any pressure to expand or get bigger. It's perfection! The omakase menu has three phases: chef's kitchen, yakitori, sushi (gorgeous nigiri courses finished with the most insane cut roll I've ever had). Everything is delicious. No misses. My favorite phase is the sushi. We STARTED that off with the most melty buttery otoro. I thought that was bold, surely it could only go downhill from there. I was proved wrong bite after bite!! Seriously, imagine a series of nigiri bites that hold their own after the BEST. Of the yakitori, the chicken meatballs were my fave, so juicy never change. Highest quality, well crafted, expertly executed menu. Lowkey I also love that this omakase ends with the most delicious cut roll, and not dessert. As a savory girl through and through, this is perfect. The onlyyyy downside is that all the rich food gives me a bit of a stomachache afterwards :D. 10000% worth it.

After graduating my girlfriend [now wife] and I would make it a point to try and eat at Matsu-Chan when in the area, even after our first kiddo, and eventually our second. Last year before one of our trips to the area my wife let me know that they were under new management and when I looked at the new menu, I was saddened that all of my favorite items were no longer present, and it seemed that my beloved little slice of Japan was now "just" a ramen shop. While my wife loves and can handle ramen and the broth, I would typically get the different rice bowls, or other entrees because while I love me some good ramen it doesn't work out well for me with the hour or so trip to the area. We'd get some rolls, takoyaki, and other appetizers to share around the table before digging into our main entrees. With the increased prices, and fewer options, I will end up going to any of the multitude of places [Aji-ten is usually our #2] to get my kick. I'll miss the little shop and the times I've had, like perusing the manga while waiting for a table. I wish the old owners the best, and the new management as well, especially if it was a familial transfer, but Matsu-Chan is not for me anymore. My wife will eventually get up there and let me know how it is, but for now, I'm just happy that a little bento shop opened near my workplace run by two first gen transplants, so I can at least get my fix without the drive.

Others following us added their names to the waitlist. The restaurant is small with just a handful of tables. One chef, it appears, prepared all the meals. I barely glanced at the menu; I already knew I was having the ramen. The only question was which one. My friend selected the eel bowl while I had the miso pork soup. The latter was served with sliced pork, bamboo shoots, fish cake, and seaweed. The broth was full of flavor; I enjoyed every slurp. I appreciated that the meal was sizeable and inexpensive - I was able to stretch it to two meals. We did not linger given the number of people waiting.
