Usually I don't bother with airport restaurants cuz... well, they're airport restaurants. But this one takes the cake in terms of bad food, worse pricing and worst service. Came in on a Friday around 11:00am with a coworker to grab a bite before my flight. Place was severely understaffed with the "please seat yourself" sign off to the side that most people missed it. Sat down, waited 10 minutes for the lone lady server to finally notice us and take our order. Food came out 10 min later (not bad) but the order was wrong. As she took away the wrong order she said out loud "its almost lunchtime, I don't even care at this point." Noticed people who came after us also were confused whether to seat themselves or wait. Some made it over to the far side of the dining area where they sat until the server noticed them and told them that area is closed (no such sign posted). Sofa is a favorite stop of mine in the Detroit airport. I have eaten here on many occasions and always enjoyed the food. The service the last time I was there was a bit slow and I am glad that I did not have a tight connecting flight. It's not the best so she in the world, but it is a lot better than most especially for an airport. I've also had the noodle dishes on several locations and really enjoyed them. I stopped at Sora Sushi Bar while passing through the Detroit Airport. I understand airport dining is often hectic, but this place felt very understaffed. When I first walked in, I stood around for a while unsure if anyone was going to greet me. Eventually, one of the sushi chefs behind the bar told me to have a seat, so I sat down. It took about ten minutes before the waitress came over to take my order. The sushi itself came out quickly, but the drink took much longer. I could tell she was working hard since she appeared to be the only server on duty, but there was no clear sign or system for seating, which was confusing. While I was there I saw several other guests come in and hesitate, not knowing whether to seat themselves or wait. It felt a little unorganized and off putting. I ordered one sushi roll and one beer and my bill came out to around forty four dollars plus tip. Definitely pricey for a single roll and drink, but to be fair the sushi roll was absolutely delicious. The quality and flavor were excellent and I would order it again. Huge mistake. I usually get a ribeye when traveling through DTW but this trip I decided to mix things up and try the Sora sushi bar. I ordered a rainbow roll and a tempura shrimp roll, and neither was very impressive. The rainbow roll was substantially smaller than any rainbow roll I can remember having--heavy on rice, extremely light on everything else. But if that was the only issue, I'd probably have walked away and not posted anything. The real disappointment was the tempura shrimp roll. Generally speaking, when you order a tempura anything roll it's implied that the "anything" will be tempura fried, and thus the expectation is that you'll get a roll with hot tempura battered yumminess inside. Not at Sora. The tempura shrimp came straight from the refrigerator and onto the roll in its cold, congealed greasy state. One of the worst rolls I have had anywhere. And what was next level frustrating was my server, seeing I ate just one piece of the cold tempura shrimp roll, didn't acknowledge it, didn't ask if I enjoyed my meal, basically didn't care that I stopped by to give Sora a try. I made two stops at this location--once on my way to Kentucky and again on my way back to Seattle--and both times, the service left much to be desired. The hostesses and servers didn't seem very welcoming, almost brushing us off. I think they remodeled the space and the menu has changed quite a bit, it is much more limited than I remember from say 5 years ago. Agedashi tofu was decent, though the dashi taste could be better. It has a strange stretchy texture a bit like chewing gum. Spicy ramen oddly has some sweetness to it, and the broth doesn't taste quite right for ramen. I think it's lacking depth. The server (who must have a hard life because she was a miserable person) just kept saying "it was coming." Meanwhile, she stood around with the rest of the staff talking about how she couldn't wait to leave and fly to Hawaii on vacation. The male staff were standing around behind the bar, throwing things at each other, bouncing a ball back and forth, and using racial slurs loud and proud. Does nobody manage these people? Based on the plethora of bad reviews, it appears not. Solid 3 stars, average. I got the miso ramen. The broth was decent but once I got to the bottom I found miso paste which meant it wasn't mixed carefully. Meat was overcooked, dry. But overall it was fine. Not bad but not particularly good, either. Their hot green tea tasted pretty decent. Given the dusty sediment it's probably a bag, but they at least brewed it correctly, which is a plus. It's $4 for hot tea, by the way, which is not explicitly on the menu. Given their extremely limited sashimi menu, I didn't trust it. Might be safer to avoid since the quality is questionable. My service was fine. Not lightning fast but not too slow either. Arrived at DTW as a lay over to my Los Angeles flight and thought this place would be a good go to dinner on my way to LA. First impression of this restaurant was not pleasant. The host/server was very rude and didn't seem to want to take my order. She rudely walked off after I told her I want to order a breakfast bowl.
