Sorella just opened and all I can say is "bussin". Really, the menu is short and sweet: just a few antipasti, secondi and primi. We only ordered 2 savories: the gramigna ($26) and the timballo ($27 and fun to say). Both were amazing. The gramigna's noodles were just al dente and fit the amazingly tender milk-braised pork ragu perfectly. The timballo, though? It's basically a millefeuille cake, but instead of cake, it's pasta and instead of cream, it's meat/cheese and instead of regret, it's delicious. It was a meat cloud in my mouth. Fax, no printer. I wasn't as into the dessert we had - a passion fruit chocolate budino. Just kidding, it was probably the most amazing dish of the night (in your face if I got you). I mean, what can I say that would do it justice? You got coconut whip with crunchy coconut bits, a perfectly sweet dark choco budino custard with slightly sour passion fruit? It's acid salt fat bomb.com. Will return just to try this + other desserts again. One thing I wasn't as big on - the cocktail (bergamotto blu, $15). I chose gin over vodka, and I must say the gin overpowered the other floral notes more than expected. Might want to check out everything else. read more

Recently visited this restaurant for the first time. It won't be our last visit! Started with a pair of Aperol spritz's at the bar and then quickly seated at our table. Our meal included Mushroom Soup, Egg Yolk Tonarelli, Striped Bass, and the Brussels Sprouts. Also two glasses of nice Italian wines with dinner. All incredibly delicious. I've been to Sorella twice recently and both experiences were absolutely outstanding. The atmosphere is casual and elegant in a way that strikes a balance between sophistication and comfort. Their service I have some of the best service I've ever experienced. The staff is friendly and welcoming and goes out of the way to make sure diners are happy and content. The wait staff it's very attentive, but not in the least way obtrusive. Their wine list has many well-chosen reasonably priced Italian wines. The food with some of the best that I've had in a long time. The Dungeness crab salad was amazing and couldn't be better. The Warm Parmesan Budino is a remarkable dish as are the three fresh pastas we had. The whole Branzino was also spectacular and olive oil cake with berries and housemade ice cream couldn't have been better. This is one of the very best restaurants I've been to in a long time and I look forward to future visits. read more

I'll admit 3 stars seem a little harsh because the flavors, service, chef, and cleanliness are obvious 5's. Hear me out as to why this was just an OK experience. Dinner is meant to feed people, not provide a sneak peek into the flavor possibilities you've crafted. We ordered 5 items between 2 people and both left hungry. This is not a tapas establishment. Their entrees are appetizers at best. Their appetizers are tasting menu bites. I'm fine with paying the prices they've set, but surely this was an overhead decision to save on cost, or "skimpflation" with the portions. (A $28 ravioli dinner entrée came with 6 small raviolis. An $18 grilled octopus came with 3 bites that didn't add up to the size of my finger. If I knew to expect minuscule portions, I would've ordered differently or planned for a heartier dessert visit. The ambiance itself I'm not a fan of. Feels like a tech office cafeteria design. The chef did a fantastic job with the flavors and textures. Just don't come hungry. This is the first I've ever left a place with a $200+ tab with the intention of eating pizza when I got home. read more

WE dined at Sorella on 12/26/21 with family, and very nice to reserve a table with Open Table. Service is very good, but bring your wallet, and have a so-so appetite. Husband ordered the pumpkin pasta ($28) more of an appetizer size; I had minestrone soup ($14) and chickory salad ($18) : Soup was a 3 out of 5, very fine diced vegetables, in a nice broth, salad had a wonderful soft cheese in the center. Bread is excellent, but is $6, which for six of us, each of us had one slice. Also ordered the focaccia bread. One Chardonnay by the glass. There are so many independent restaurants in San Francisco, and we would enjoy dining at other restaurants. read more

Yep. Worthy of the hype. I read a spotlight somewhere recently on this place (was it Eater? I don't think so but I don't remember). I booked a table after reading it. As it happens I went here in December as Covid restrictions were just starting to ease and everyone was very clearly pretty uncomfortable sitting next to strangers. My meal was good but I don't remember being amazed. Tonight however was a much different story. I truly think one of the main reasons I loved it so much tonight was because I had my usual light breakfast in the a.m., skipped lunch, and went hungry. If your senses are more awake and your appetite greater, you will enjoy a meal more, it's a fact. I could wax poetic about everything I had. Service was spot on; attentive, friendly and professional at all times. The tables still are annoyingly close to each other so it's kind of uncomfortable sitting right next to strangers and hearing their conversations while knowing they are hearing yours but that is the only complaint I can come up with. The food? Absolutely divine. We had the following: Rise Up Sourdough: Really really good and the olive oil is amazing. Mixed Baby Green salad: Really impressive. A salad but nice, fresh and refreshing. Aritchoke & Stracciatella: OMG. This was one of the best things I have ever put in my mouth. I love artichokes and eat them weekly if they're in the grocery stores but this was something unlike anything I have ever had. Mind blowing awesomeness. Warm Parmesan Budino - We liked this, I liked it much more than the wife who thought it was more like a souflee which it is however it's light and the truffle flavor shines through perfectly. I love asparagus too and this was excellent. Squid Ink Linguine - Wow. Just wow. This was one of the best pasta dishes let alone any dish I have ever had. The sauce is spicy and flavored absolutely perfectly. It's served at the perfect temperature so that you don't sear your mouth on the hot pasta. Oh baby. I could eat this daily and never get tired of it. Wild King Salmon - the fish is from Half Moon Bay I think she said, it is fresh, melts like butter and seasoned perfectly. I can't even describe the flavoring because I can't do it justice. Yes the tomatoes are prepared flawlessly with the pine nuts and blistered romano beans. If you like salmon you will love this. All in all this was as good a meal as I could hope for coming out of a brutal pandemic that had denied me of such pleasures for so, so long. The service was on point, we received great recommendations on our appetizers and mains from our waiter, the host was friendly and provided coat check which i really appreciated. The decor/ambiance is fantastic, a lot of curved lines and high ceilings with beautiful light filtering throughout the restaurant. I'm a self proclaimed martini expert and the martini here are great! We loved the fried olives stuffed with sausage and sardine toast. I ordered the duck bolognese with gnocchi and omg, it was amazing! The gnocchi were tender without being mushy and the duck bolognese was flavorful and silky. All in all, I would hope to score another reservation at Sorella! read more

Loved the vibes when I came to dinner, the staff was attentive and kind. One server went out of her way to compliment my shirt and I've been chasing that high since! I feel bad for giving Sorella 3 stars. I know it's harsh. First, I want to say the food and drinks are great. Each of the dishes we tried were flavorful, well thought out, and well cooked. And the staff were fantastic. They helped make a variety of recommendations and were generally very helpful. So why 3 stars? The portions. Based on the price of dishes on the menu, you'd expect that an entree or appetizer is, well, a typical entree or appetizer size. That said, entree dishes are the size of an appetizer and appetizer are the size of a bite you'd get as part of a tasting menu - yet priced at what you'd expect to pay for an appetizer or entree. And it wasn't just a few dishes where portion sizes were an issue - as a group of four we ordered 4 appetizers, 3 pastas, and a main. In summary, the food is fantastic but this was the first time I've left a restaurant - with a $250+ bill for four - hungry. Thankfully for those with less restraint than myself there's a Bobs Donuts just a couple blocks down. read more

We had a fantastic experience here. If you are thinking of checking it out, you definitely should! Everything we tried was fabulous, and the service was great...especially the personalized service we received when we ordered a flight of Amaro. They were also incredibly patient with our many questions about the menu. They took the time to answer them all and we didn't feel rushed. We started with the pumpkin and farro minestrone soup. I thought it was outstanding; my partner liked it though it was a little salty for her taste. We also had the foccacia bread, which was delicious. For our mains we did the beef timballo. Timballo is kind of like lasagna, but also very different. It was SO good. We will order it again. Ditto for the pumpkin and amaretti caramelle. The pasta was the perfect texture and the flavors of sage, brown butter, balsamic, pumpkin and amaretti went together so nicely. Savory and not sweet - we loved it. Dessert was also a phenomenal surprise. We had the olive oil torte. It was simple but at the same time had so much going on in a good way - with lemon curd, grapefruit sorbet, and pistachios. It was absolutely delicious. The portions were perfect. We were a little nervous about ordering bread, soup AND two pastas to share, but they were perfectly portioned - not too much, and not too little. Hence, we had room for dessert, which was fun! The cocktails we had were great as well - well-balanced and tasty. I had the Lucky 7 which reminded me of a winter night in SF that meets a beach day in Maui with its pineapple and clove flavors, and my partner had the Quintessential - a smoky bourbon cocktail that she loved. Honestly the service and food were so great that we forgot they had only opened a few weeks ago. So many times when you go to a place that has just opened there is something that isn't quite right yet and you just have to roll with it. Not so for Sorella. Sorella is a great restaurant with great food. What keeps it from 5stars is the inconsistent service. This was the second time here, last time was New Year's Eve. That time the service was slow and inconsistent. This time it happened again. Both times were very busy, but this should be addressed. I know there is a shortage of workers, but delays in taking orders and bringing out food are an issue. This time the Secondi course came a significantly delayed, the waiter apologized for the delay and said the food would e out shortly. It came, but was barely warm. Clearly the two dishes were sitting out for a while which suggests miscommunication between waiters and cooks. Now each dish was excellent, which made up for the service issues. I especially recommend the Egg Yolk Tonarelli with Fort Bragg sea urchin. Wow, just fantastic. And the waiter had an excellent recommendation on the wine. So, hopefully they will tighten up on the service, otherwise enjoy the food and cocktails! read more

I had a endive salad, with candied walnuts and blue cheese, numerous times. However they added sea salt? Made a nice salad salty. Not a fan of a salty salad.
