The space has a beautiful Italian market café feel and offers coffee, pastries, pizza, soups, salads, and more. (sorellecharleston.com) The coffee was excellent. We tried two of their specialty drinks -- one was a latte with lemon cold foam and candied lemon pieces on top, which was absolutely fabulous and so unique. The other was a strawberry and cream coffee that was also delicious. For food, we had the specialty pizza of the day called "The Dip," which was topped with an artichoke dip spread and was really creative and tasty. We also ordered two chopped salads. At first I was a little disappointed to learn the salads were pre-made, but honestly they were fresh and much better than expected. My daughter also had the Italian wedding soup and thought it was fabulous. One thing to know: this place gets BUSY. We stopped by in the morning and the line was outrageous. Personally, I don't think it's worth waiting in a super long line. However, we came back later in the afternoon and had only a short wait, which made for a much more enjoyable experience. Highly impressed with this cafe! Even with a line out the door and a bit of a wait, the experience was well worth it. The staff were incredibly friendly and kept things moving. I tried the seasonal Carrot Cake Latte, and it was exceptional--the cold foam on top with pecans and cinnamon made it feel like a real treat. While I didn't grab any pastries this time, the bakery selection looked absolutely delectable. Space is a bit limited inside, but they do have a few outdoor seats. My favorite cafe in Charleston!!! This place is such a treat and has an incredible vibe; it felt warm, energetic, fun, but also comfortable, safe, and dependable. I got an iced latte, the English muffin sandwich and a donut and OMG. This was a great way to start my day. The staff were so friendly and despite there being a long line out the door and nonstop orders coming through, they remained calm and composed and continued to deliver their service and orders with great attention to detail. The vibe was so enjoyable that I did not mind waiting in line at all, and after we ordered our stuff came out after like 5 minutes, maybe 10 for the sandwich. This is such a cute coffee shop! It's split into a restaurant and quick coffee shop/lunch spot. They had sandwiches, coffees, pastries, and more. The chocolate strawberry latte had strawberry puree, which made it sweet. They chocolate drizzle combined made it taste exactly like a chocolate covered strawberry. If you like sweet coffee, this is a great option! They didn't currently have it on the menu, but I just asked if they could make it and they kindly said yes!! The croissants were great, not too crumbly. They had a nice crunch and a nice soft inside. The pistachio was a mild taste, but definitely nutty. read more

La Mercato is one of those spots in Charleston that you keep seeing all over TikTok and Instagram, so we had to check it out while visiting--and it's definitely a fun bakery to stop by. The space itself is super cute with both indoor and outdoor seating, and it has that lively café energy that makes you want to hang out for a bit. We ordered a slice of the Calabrian pizza, which had a super light crust and great toppings with a nice spicy kick. We also tried the breakfast panino with prosciutto, eggs, and pesto--simple but really tasty and satisfying. For drinks, we got the dark chocolate orange latte (hot) and an iced vanilla latte with cold foam. Both looked beautiful and tasted just as good, which made the whole experience even better. Overall, it's easy to see why this place is so popular. This was one of the many stops I wanted to make during our Girl's Trip to Charleston. I had heard that this was "the place" to get coffee so obviously I had to visit. The coffee shop was well-decorated and has a variety of different seating options. The only thing is that it was extremely busy so I can't imagine taking a book or my laptop there to get some work done. I ordered the Banana's Foster Latte and a pastry (I'm forgetting the name of it). Honestly I was a bitttttt underwhelmed. I just felt like there was no discernible flavor that made it more special than any other coffee I had. I'm not sure if I would visit here again, but it's a really great place for photos. read more

First of all, it was so cute on the inside. We just stopped by to try a latte we had seen on their Insta page, and it was so good, literally made our entire day. I was really excited to try this place! I feel like it's the coffee shop in charleston I've heard the most about. The inside was decorated beautifully. I got there around 9:55am on a Saturday morning and the line wasn't too long at all. I ordered the Casper Latte which was their special edition fall drink and it was good! It was a sugar cookie latte with marshmallow fluff. I didn't think the coffee was necessarily exceptional but maybe it's because I got a seasonal latte. I ordered the chocolate croissant and I feel like it had really quality ingredients but I didn't think it was great because it wasn't warmed up. Came here for a visit at brunch on the weekend. They have outdoor and indoor seating. The indoor seating is community style, with a few individual tables around it. The line to order was long but it went by quite fast. We ordered one of their seasonal sandwiches, and another sandwich. Both were full of flavor. Bread was a little hard but other than that, it was delicious! Tried their matcha with apple cider as well. Not a big matcha fan but I would come back for this one! Overall, had a great experience! Cute coffee shop in downtown Charleston. Workers there were very friendly! I ordered the iced caramel latte with oat milk. It was good but not amazing. I also tried the rainbow cookie and Maritozzo. *I did not try the food so I am reviewing on coffee alone This is by far the BEST iced latte I've had. I highly recommend getting the strawberry cold foam. It's delicious. The coffee taste and their syrups are great and smooth. Their quality all around is very good. They were extremely busy when I went but they had a great system going and I barely had to wait. All staff members were fast, friendly, and welcoming. I had a complicated order with a lot of customizing and they accommodated very well. The cafe is very clean and the building is beautiful. Very nice little cafe on Broad Street. The ambience in here is great, feels like a luxury hotel. Came here on a Sunday morning and there was a small line. There are quite a few places to sit inside as well as outside on the street. Service at the counter was very friendly. The prices are steep, just to be aware. The croissants are absolutely delicious. Came here with my wife, ordered a BLT special, mocha, cannoli, and bombelloni. We even asked how much the BLT special cost, and my wife replied "yes, we'll take that." We received the mocha, cannoli, and bombelloni. Almost half an hour passes, and our BLT is nowhere to be seen. We ask the cashier, and he tells us that he assumed that we had ordered the seasonal latte (which we never ordered). Fortunately, even though I didn't receive a receipt, I checked my bank transactions. After speaking to (who I assume) was the manager, they agreed to refund the latte (at this point we no longer wanted to wait on the sandwich). However, they did not want to take accountability for their error, continuing to make excuses that my wife was unclear on what she was ordering. A simple apology would have sufficed. Food--not worth the price. The cannoli didn't taste like ricotta (more like lemon). There are better places for desserts in Charleston. read more

Updating my review as they have made menu changes and I've found my favorites. The soup is fantastic. It tastes delicious and healthy, is definitely my go-to now. Sorelle Mercato is the side lunch sandwich/ salad bar next to the main Sorelle dining area. They specialize in authentic Italian food and coffee/ pastries. I went on my lunch break on a weekend and I did not have to wait too long for one of the high chairs on the sitting area opened up and I was able to enjoy the ambiance and exquisite decorations. I ordered the Mortadella panino which comes with a generous portion of burrata and TONS of a very finely sliced mortadella which was to die for. It was a really delicious and filling lunch and I picked up a quick cappuccino on the way out which was made to perfection with my choice of plant based milk. It is not the cheapest in the area but it is worth it for such an an amazing treat and overall experience. read more

There is a high-end restaurant here open for dinner, and this is a smaller cafe that's open for lunch. One can tell that the quality of ingredients bleeds over. There were other aspects of the place that didn't wow me; the service was indifferent and not overly hasty, coupled by a strange incident where someone claiming to be a former employee stopped in and was recognized by no one. Given that you're just ordering at a counter, this is the sort of situation where I find requests for tipping increasingly grating. The few tables fill easily and seemed to fill with the most obnoxious hoi palloi of Charleston, such that when my food was finally ready I really wanted to leave. Fortunately, there are areas nearby with benches and scenery that make good eating locations. What they call a slice of pizza is a very flatbread creation, but the cheese, sauce, and ample garlic delivered no shortage of flavor. My salad was a vegetarian caesar that had beautifully fresh leaves and was quite tasty. I was very sad to have dropped a portion of it on the ground. Even for downtown, it was on the pricey side. The quality was clearly there. I'm guessing if you make a reservation for dinner and splurge, you probably get a better experience and the same quality of food. read more

Ammazza! Belissimo! Molto bene! I have to admit I was truly awestruck when entering Sorelle Mercato located at 86 Broad Street on opening day today! The Mercato offers classic and casual food including three types of salads, paninis, Sicilian style pizza, Italian pastries and homemade gelato- note the gelato is NOT your typical ~ the gelato recipe at Mercato is made with a super milky "Fior Di Latte" -- so beware the taste will transport you right over to Italy! Be sure to check the retail area where authentic Italian goods are sold to take and make at home. The environment at Sorelle is elaborately designed and decorated beautifully...~ with the takeover of three historic townhomes the team transformed the spaces and combined old world style and Southern history. You will feel like you have stepped into a "fashionable old- world style~ marble everywhere ~ Italian mansion". ... so Mercato is NOT your average dull and unexciting coffee shop. As soon as you enter you will be impressed with the grand staircase and will command you to notice. It is truly magnificent. The horseshoe bar greets you on the right as you enter. A "Happy Hour" with small plates in the bar area will be available from 4 pm. Make sure to roam around the main floor when inside as there are two hallways that lead to a small wine room off the bararea. Upstairs is where the main formal dining room is found and Sorelle is scheduled to open sometime this summer. BTW~ Hand painted wallpaper, fireplaces and cozy booths with views set an elegant tone to another area of this project and we can't wait for Sorelle's opening! Someone mentioned to me that the upstairs restrooms are even beautiful! An intimate four seat pizza counter is handy for a quick bite, no hassle. Notice the wood fired pizza oven. An exclusive chef's table is also available. Sip a Cafe' Latte or a Macchiato in the rear of the cafe ~ the light filled room overlooks the Charleston Judicial Center courtyard and contain small tables and a community table complete with fresh floral arrangements. Fast, friendly and helpful staff and servers abound. On opening day the cafe was buzzing with patrons and it already looks like this establishment is doing very well and will have have no trouble blending into the downtown Broad Street food and beverage culture. First impressions of this place was upscale and classy, especially for a cafe. Although it was quite bustling on a Saturday morning, the food made up for the busyness. I appreciated the food and other pastries on display because you can gauge the quality and care that goes into their food. I ordered the breakfast panino and shakerato. Breakfast Panino - It has egg, basil pesto, prosciutto and fontina cheese. None of the ingredients overpowered each other and it was well balanced. It can out warm and not soggy (which I am very particular about this). Shakerato - It was a hot day so I wanted something cold. I typically do not go for a shakerato because it is usually a miss for me. But I sent it and I'm so glad I did. Literally the best shakerato I've ever had. It was creamy and had a thick consistency. Not too sweet, just how I like it. I wish I got a bigger size in the end. Besides the elegant and chic interior design, there aren't as many seating options available especially at a popular spot. However, there were more seats and tables in the back, to include a high top and a communal table in the middle. I didn't have an issue getting a spot but you may be close to others. As locals, we are excited to welcome Sorelle to the downtown food scene! We dropped in to the mercantile for a quick lunch on a Friday and had two amazing dishes. I loved the think piece of Sicilian style pizza - got the vegetarian option. My husband got the meatball sandwich and said it was the best he's had. We sat inside and looked out the window. I ordered an ice mocha latte, something I seldom choose. However, the Mercato's rendition used a refined touch of cocoa, not the average brown sugary syrup. It was delicious. Service was engaging and prompt, especially considering how very busy it was. The decor is inviting as are the lovely pastries and sandwiches. Would highly recommend trying it. Sorelle mercato is such a cute quiet spot, off of broad street right next to their restaurant which I need to try. I stopped by there on on Tuesday and got their iced pistachio latte with whole milk and it was delicious not too pistachio-y but was the perfect amount. The pastry is one of my new favorite things, it's called a maritozzo I believe, it's an iconic pastry made from brioche buns, very fluffy filled with heaven basically. I got the s'mores one, had biscoff in the middle with a s'mores cream over flowing. I could only eat a little and then put it in the refrigerator and ate it for desert! I got so many questions about it and it honestly is as good as it looks. I didn't even think they were real when I saw them! Can't wait to try the other flavors soon! If you are in the area, it's definitely a must try. Quick service inside, and some tables in the back to work from. They have limited outdoor seating but who doesn't also love a good coffee walk too!
