I don't have an issue with going to a fancy restaurant, and paying 45 bucks for a piece of fish. However, that fish better be out of this world. The halibut, among other things made Sorellina a disappointing experience, and not one I hope to repeat. More on the fish later. The vibe in the restaurant is classy and upscale. However, if you happen to be seated in front of the large blue-ish woodsy mural, the blue light cuts through the otherwise amberish light. No big deal, and no point lost - only me being me. To drink, I ordered the Passione. This was a take on a margarita as I understand it. The drink was strong and tasty, with the citrus giving it sweetness, savoriness, and just a little tartness. I liked the use of mezcal also. The bread provided to the table while we waited was great! It had a nice crust, and the insides were cooked through (the kind that bounces back from gentle pressure instead of turning to play-dough). To start, I ordered the Tuna (tartare). As far as Tartares go, I liked the interpretation here. The combination of sauces gave the fish sweetness followed by some noticeable, mustardy heat! These flavors were very well balanced and neither the sweetness nor the heat overwhelmed the dish or had me reaching for the water. I also liked the perfect amount of freshness offered by the veggies. My critique here is that the chips served with the meal were so overly crisp, it was like eating glass. Wonton chips absolutely have a place with tartares, but only if they don't fight for attention. For a main I ordered the Halibut. It had the makings of a good dish, but when it came to what was on the plate, it fell flat. What I liked was the pleasant and delicate interplay of the sauce and seasonings. However, I would have definitely liked more of the sauce. Once halfway through the fillet, the sauce was all gone, and all that was left was a relatively dry (i.e. not moist) piece of fish. The pieces of potato and lobster seemed like an out-of-place afterthought, with the lobster being somewhat rubbery. If this main didn't cost $45, I might be a little more forgiving. For that amount of money, I would hope the execution would be on-point, and not contain a dearth of sauce and pointless lobster pieces. Then there was the contorni of sweet corn. The corn reminded me of mexican street corn. By itself, perfectly pleasant, however, the execution here was a heart-attack inducing disaster. After the first spoonful off the top, I noticed that the corn was, quite literally taking a bath in butter. A little bit of butter with corn is wonderful, but not in such an outrageous amount. To their credit, the server took this dish back and did not charge me for it. They did offer to make it with no butter, less butter, which also is appreciated, but I like to eat dishes the way to chef intended. It seems here the chef intended to make his patrons go hard at the gym every day for a fortnight, all for a dish of corn. They also offered to bring me a different side instead, but I declined. For dessert, I ordered a cappuccino and a tiramisu. The cappuccino was excellent, the coffee had great flavor, and there was a perfect amount of foam. However, this cappuccino cost seven dollars. I get that this restaurant is in the heart of Boston, but seven dollars for a cappuccino is nonetheless extremely steep. The tiramisu was enjoyable. The consistency was very pleasant, and it wasn't overly sweet. I found the execution interesting of having the cream towards the outside and the cake towards the inside. Then there was the service. For a place of this caliber, I would have liked the service to be a little more attentive. There is definitely something to be said for being able to enjoy your meal, but conversely, having to look around for a server isn't the best feeling (again, in a place of this caliber). read more

Two things detract from the diner's experience: the awful disco music played in the background (not even Italian), and the arctic current of air from the front door to our table fifty feet away. Yum! I usually stick to moderately-priced restaurants but came here for a special occasion, and it did not disappoint! For starters, we ordered the arugula salad and polpo (octopus). The salad was refreshing and light, and the octopus was tender and well-seasoned. For the main, I ordered the lumache. Best bolognese dish I ever had, it was so rich! Not sure what the secret ingredient was, but my hunch is that it's the bone marrow butter. Service and ambience were impeccable, 10/10 would recommend for a special dinner. read more

The food was absolutely delicious and the staff was friendly, patient, and attentive. My one complaint is that the restaurant shows up in search engines with prices in the.$$ range, and I would classify their pricing as more like $$$. Most entrées were $45-$65. Most drinks were $17-$22. I share this mostly so folks going there know that in their bill will likely be $100 per person or more. The service was impeccable- friendly and helpful with great recommendations. The ambiance inside was beautiful, I loved how the decor on the tables (trees) matched the plates. Very upscale and classy environment. The food was the best part! I ordered the lobster gnocchi- the gnocchi was very fresh (and very hot), texture of it was perfect (not dense, melted in your mouth), and there was a generous amount of lobster in it. The lobster was juicy, buttery, and cooked to a perfect temperature. For dessert I ordered the lava cake, and was pleasantly surprised. The outside was crispy, the inside was filled with hot molten chocolate lava. The chocolate itself was not too rich, and I thought the entire dessert was one of the best I've had. I thoroughly enjoyed the octopus -- the combination of the fresh, soft octopus with the sweet cherry tomatoes was a perfect balance. Would definitely recommend if you enjoy octopus or want to try something different!! The lobster gnocchi was buttery with generous portions of lobster. A MUST HAVE for lobster lovers. Wow I am no foodie and I was blown away how much I loved this place Ambiance was nice but still welcoming and not over pretentious. Perfect volume to enjoy each other's company in our group of seven Service was great. Our waiter Kirk knew the menu so well and shared it in a way that was thorough, not annoying, and made me want to try everything. Thanks, Kirk! Came here somewhat late for a Sunday evening (7:45). But we did have a reservation. Atmosphere is heavy laden with candle lit tables and tables full of happy patrons. My one and only complaint, was we were sat at a small table WAAAAAAAYYYY in the back, next to the fire exit door and extinguisher. I get it, even for a Sunday night; this place was packed. So I'm not going to hold it against them. Service was friendly and attentive. Food was really really good, presentation also very good. Wine selection was ample, not too big that it was overwhelming, which I hate. But had just enough from a great variety of regions to be very pleasing to anyone's palate. I did think veal on the main entree menu prepared in 4 dishes 4 different ways was a bit much, but I still ordered the veal (saltimboca) and it was fantastic. It was veal tenderloin, of which I have never seen on a menu or had before. It was crazy good and melted in your mouth like butter. Amazing place! My wife and were dragging ass in the afternoon but made the reservation, nonetheless. Everything was great: food,ambience and d service. It is dark in the dining room but we used the IPhone flashlight to read the menu. I can bore you with the details but suffice it to say that everything from the freshly baked warm bread to the double espresso after my meal was first rate. When I visit Boston for business I am usually blessed and lucky enough to eat at some of the top restaurants there. Unfortunately. my experience at Sorellina fell short compared to other $$$$ rated restaurants. Service was excellent throughout the night. No qualms there. The food, however, left something to be desired. Appetizers: Oysters for appetizers - good and fresh. Polpo - the octopus was cut up (I prefer to have the leg served itself) and there was some spice in the dish that threw the other flavors off. To me octopus is one of those dishes where less is more, like grade A tuna. PAPPARDELLE - osso buco pasta. This was pretty good, where the pasta had a nice texture and tasted like it was handmade. Filet Mignon - For our table we had 2 ordered, both medium rare. 1 came out perfect. The other one came out medium. Filet Mignon cooked medium tasted too dry. Unfortunately the overcooked one was for me. The menu felt limited too. Would be nice to add more dishes in every category. read more

We are eating this restaurant based upon it's claim that it is a high end restaurant and our past experiences dining here Unfortunately, both service and food quality have dramatically declined over the past 20 years. Tonight we brought guests from NYS, FL, and NH. (We are from MA.) The food was, well, blah. The service? Worse. We started with drink orders. Not only did they get our drink orders wrong, but they took FOREVER (over 25 minutes for a table of 8 when only two other tables on the restaurant were occupied). They also failed to bring the drink accompaniments that were requested. Finally, the server dropped a drink on one of us. (We actually don't care about that. But it just was the straw that broke the camel's back.) Our food was mediocre at best. Oysters appetizer: Yuck. They ruined a perfectly good oyster with a bunch of shit on top. Just give us the freshly shucked oyster with some mignonette and be done. Stop trying to dress up something that already perfect in its native state. Saltimbocca: two of us ordered it and nearly sent it back. Caesar salad: Even the staff referred to it as "Romaine salad" when it was served. It was three romaine leaves with store-bought Caesar. No sign of fresh anchovies. (You can tell when a joint has added fresh anchovies.) Eggplant Rolotini (a Contorno): I've had better eggplant rotini at Olive Garden. The rollotini were the size of a thumbnail, served on really bad marinara, with very little flavor. Decaf cappuccino: very good. After dinner caramel truffle chocolates: as one of our friends said, "Those chocolates are the best thing they served us tonight!" Do NOT waste your money on this place. read more

My server was friendly but as always (as I said in an earlier review), in my limited experience at high-end restaurants, I don't believe I've encountered anyone yet where I was like okay this person entirely deserves a 20% tip. In fact, it is always these family-run businesses where I'd feel welcomed and be willing to tip 20% wholeheartedly. Their bathrooms are unisex and located by their entrance. Thank you Jess C. for your October 27, 2023 review. That's how I knew what was coming with the check and was able to preempt our server (someone else) from pulling the same stunt. When he handed me the bill I simply handed him my card and told him to run it and I would sign the check and fill it out. Memo to Sorellina management: take a hint from the people who program software for restaurants. If you want to give suggested amounts then indicate how much each comes out to before the tax so we can check your calculations. Also you need to offer your guests two more choices, tipping more than any of your three suggestions or not tipping at all. This is fair to both your employees AND your customers. Sometimes bad service can overshadow the meal so no matter what is put in front of you it does not matter. Wait 15 minutes for bread but alcohol comes immediately. Get pressured into ordering a full meal at once without knowing how anything tastes. You get the idea. Oh, and let's not forget. If a dish contains ingredients that are classified by the FDA as known allergens (e.g. pork, shellfish, etc.) or food that can can cause health issues (e.g. raw egg), then it behooves you to disclose it if not written on the menu, e.g. a "special." read more

For the price I'm just not sure it's worth it. The service was really slow (took 40+ minutes for our food to come out). There were some standouts, I think I also just didn't choose the right main. I chose the veal Milanese which everyone seemed to recommend. It was good but did it blow my mind? No, but Might just not be my dish. Crunchy crust and a yummy creamy polenta. My sister ordered the ravioli and I think that was the best choice of the night. A bit rich but overall delicious. My brother in law got the filet mignon which was also good. The desserts and wine were delicious - I would come back just for dessert. We got the ciocollato and the tiramisu, both excellent. So overall it just didn't rise to the expectations that I had considering how fancy and nice it is. There are better fine dining experiences in Boston but it's still a good option. My partner and I held our own "Italian restaurant week" for our birthday + anniversary celebration and out of the 7 restaurants we tried this week, this is our favorite! The restaurant is adamant about covid safety, which made me feel safe to dine there. The tables were well spread apart and the ambiance was elegant and chic. Although we went during colder weather, their patio area seems to be great for summer. For meals, we had lobster pasta and steak, along with risotto, salad, and tartare to share. The meals were flavorful and filled with emotion. The lobster was my favorite as it was decadent and buttery as I like it. The presentations for all the dishes are stunning. It is visible that the chefs are proud and experienced in their work! They friendly waiter even decorated our dessert dish at the end to wish us a happy anniversary + birthday. Most importantly, the waiter was genuine and personal. We had a lengthy conversation about my visit to Italy and the knowledge and appreciation I gained of Italian food since then. By the end of the conversation, we felt like we made a new friend when we left! I'd come back to dine here just to be in the company of our new friend. I want to thank the staff for making my evening a wonderful ending to a milestone celebration. This was our 1st time experiencing Sorellina. I had the Tuna and my husband had the Foie Gras and both were delicious. For dinner I chose the Halibut. It was not only tender but cooked perfectly. My husband had the Saltimbocca. Also amazing. It was funny to hear how many guests were celebrating special occasions. To top it off at the end I was given a chocolate Lava cake with a candle and scoop of vanilla ice cream on the side. Went here for a business dinner. The place is very nice with a warm decor. Service was very attentive. Friendly and professional. The restaurant has a very large and somewhat overpriced wine list. Not too many lower cost selections. The wine service was perfect with proper stemware and the wine was served at a proper temperature. The food I'd have to say was somewhat disappointing. The fresh bread was delicious. However, my salad was under-dressed and dry. I ordered the maccheroncelli which is apparently the signature dish. The meatballs were very tasty and done well but the pasta was served too hard, not al dente, but hard. The sauce was nothing to get excited about. No one in the party complained, though no one raved about the food either. read more

When you first walk in, the restaurant gives a very elegant yet cozy ambiance. The restaurant is beautiful and dimly lit. We were looking forward to a great birthday meal. For starters: The tuna was made with mustard aioli, and it was a unique tasting and delicious dish. The burrata was delicate and tasty. Both 10/10. For mains: The filet mignon was asked to be cooked at a medium rare, but came out a perfect medium. The mashed potatoes that it was served with were very good. 9/10. The pappardelle was rich, tasty, filling, but a little too al dente. 8/10. We also ordered a side of truffle fries. They were tasty, but a bit too deep fried and oily for my liking. Not what I expected. 6/10. For dessert: The tiramisu was good, but a little too much emphasis on being rich and creamy. 8/10. The cioccolato was a combination of a small scoop of ice cream and VERY hot chocolate cake. The contrast was way too intense. 6/10. Service: Overall, the service felt a bit lacking, inattentive, and rushed throughout our meal. Every time our server came to check in, he came very quickly, talked quickly, and walked away quickly. For some reason, this didn't feel very relaxing and a bit insincere. The biggest bummer of the night, however, was that despite noting on the reservation that it was a birthday celebration and informing our birthday celebration to our server, our dessert had no "birthday treatment" with candles. This really wouldn't have been an issue, but for some unlucky coincidence, the two tables next to us were also celebrating birthdays and received the birthday treatment and made this mistake very noticeable for us. This was probably an accidental mistake, but nevertheless was a less than ideal way to end our meal, and reflected the general lack of attention that we felt throughout the meal. Honestly, for a $$$$ restaurant, I expected better. 5/10. Summary: The tuna and burrata were great, the filet mignon and pappardelle were good. Tiramisu was rich, and the cioccolato lava cake was hot! Despite the food being good, however, the biggest highlight was that the service was lacking throughout the night. Would I come again? If I could, I'd rate this restaurant 5 stars for food, 3 for service, and 3 for the wine. The food was phenomenal. We had the lobster gnocchi, veal, and lamb. Service was lackluster with us looking for the waiter to bring to the table and pour us our white wine. When we had a question about the wine, the server said he'd bring back the GM because he couldn't answer the question. The server then said the GM was too busy and couldn't see us. The wine was just overpriced plain and simple. We saw a bottle that we had the day before at a restaurant down the street for 3 times the price at Sorellina.
