We had an excellent lunch at this Soul Fish Cafe in Germantown, TN. Emily, our Server, was fast, friendly, and delightful. We enjoyed a Catfish Basket and a Blackened Catfish Plate. Both were superb! The 3-piece Catfish Basket with fries, coleslaw, and hush puppies was a lot of food. My fried catfish was crisp on the outside, moist on the inside, and nicely seasoned. It came recommended and I ordered smoked chicken it was extremely dry and so I didn't eat it and told the server that I didn't want another one but it was not good. "Sorry" in the group someone ordered the Cuban and was very pleased with flavor and the other person ordered salmon and it was cooked properly so I guess don't get chicken. Came here for a date (Jan 11) and we were seated immediately. The customer service was good and the food was even better. I ordered the Blackened Salmon with Fried Okra and the Salmon was cooked perfectly but the Okra could have been hotter. They have decent pricing on their wines and we were able to get a few glasses. This was my third or fourth visit to Soul Fish as I don't get to Tennessee but once a year or so. This trip I ordered the Fried oyster po boy with Mac & Cheese on the side. I do love the collard greens here, but wasn't feeling it this day. My Po boy looked huge, but in fact it was really small oysters in a lot of batter. It was hard to tell if the oysters were good, although two of them were like chewing rubber bands. The sandwich had too little remoulade and too much lettuce; anemic tomatoes accompanied a delicious toasted bun. I'm always surprised when something as plentiful as tomatoes are in the south are served at a greenish-white rather than plump, juicy red. It was still summer! I will say our server quickly brought me more remoulade and the Mac & cheese was outstanding, with just the right amount of creamy cheese to gooey cheddar. read more

I had a little time between a visit and my flight so I decided to stop at what was recommended as a very good catfish place. I was immediately seated and my server approached the table and asked what I wanted to drink. I was a little thrown off as I expected her to at least introduce herself and say hi, but she didn't. Ok.... I took a couple seconds to look at the menu and I decided to order the Catfish & Shrimp with a side of cabbage. The Catfish & Shrimp were well seasoned, which wasn't too salty and fried just right, and the Cabbage actually had Rotel tomatoes in it which was different to me, but it gave it an OK flavor--not sure I'd order that again though because it also had a pickled taste too--but I ate it. The food was delivered quick and I was actually in and out the restaurant in record time. Soul fish is definitely a great place to go if you're eating after church or you got a day off and looking for a lunch spot. The place itself is pretty spacious and i like the TVs. Only seat eight to a table, we had twelve for lunch. Will not seat a party until all have arrived, bad management policy. When seated while waiting for my party to arrive I usually order a couple of appetizers while we wait. A loss of revenue. Service was good as was the food. Went for lunch at Collierville location. Catfish is great but my wife had the baked chicken and it was tough and had a peculiar smell. She did not eat it. Service was slow so I had finished and we were ready to go. We told the manager the dish was not satisfactory. She said she would get her something else but it looked like we were ready to leave. Normally, I wouldn't have taken the time to write a review because I do understand that an establishment could have an "off" night. However, this isn't the first nor second that I've not only recieved less than acceptable food at this location but it was accompanied by less than favorable customer service. I'll start with the most recent incident which happens to have been tonight. After a day a shopping we decided to stop by the Germantown location and grab dinner. We ordered when we arrived because the wait is never long. We ordered our usual which is two 3 piece catfish baskets (FRIED HARD) and two kiddie cat meals. We waited maybe 10 minutes then got our food and drove home to Olive Branch. Once we got home and got situated I opened the food to plate it and that's when I noticed most of the food was unacceptable. The fish on the adult baskets were so soft that you couldn't pick it up without it breaking apart although we specifically asked for it to be fried hard. My daughter's fries were literally black and hard as a rock. My son's catfish nuggets were so hard and dark that he actually refused eat his food. Although I absolutely HATE soft fried catfish I was willing to put my food in the airfryer and make the best of it because the last thing I wanted to do was to drive 30 minutes BACK to Germantown from Olive Branch. My husband decided to call the store and notify the manager because like I stated earlier this is not an isolated incident. I listened to him describe everything that was wrong to her and she basically said that if he didn't want to drive to return the food that there isn't anything that she can do about it. He then explained that we live 30 minutes away and that wasn't an option and she still stood firm on doing nothing. Never once did she ask for a picture or anything. I mean we're talking about a $50 meal and she didn't try to compensate us for their mistakes at all nor was she apologetic. The most she offered was to have a talk with the cooks as if that would help us with the terrible dinner that we were stuck with tonight. All in all I wouldn't reccomend this place. At the least, I would expect a company to right their wrongs. I've included pictures of this wasted $50 meal. I do not plan to return. read more

Let's start off with what they did really well at our first visit here. 1) Service was very prompt and kind. Server made good suggestions for sides. This was our highlight. 2) Portion size for appetizers and the meals we chose for the most part. 3). The pork chop dinner was very well cooked and flavorful also. Next.. What was okay nothing special --Shrimp Tacos, boneless chicken, hush puppies. What was kinda meh... -- Fried green tomatoes. Good texture but not that flavorful. What was really disappointing: They had a seafood special which was mahi mahi sandwich either blackened it grilled. I chose blackened. Unfortunately I only took one bite. It was so sry and tough that I had a hard time biting through the mahi. That was a deal breaker for me. Again the server was excellent and offered an exchange but I was so put off I decided not to try anything else. I was thankful that they took it off my bill. I guess overall we expected better and we'll keep looking for other places instead of coming back here unless we have a desire to eat pork chops! read more

Recommended by nearby Residence Inn where my husband and I stayed. The atmosphere was enjoyable and our waitress Morgan was excellent. We enjoyed our dinner. We also looked at the online menu and pricing before we decided to dine. We were not sure of the prices as they seem a little below current restaurant pricing. We were correct as posted prices like 8.99 or 9.99 are now in the $14-16.00 dollar range. I noticed store hours were adjusted in the past 30 days and so my recommendation would be to also correct menu pricing. read more

I went to Soul Fish while I was in town for work based on a recommendation from a co-worker. We were able sit immediately around lunch time on a Monday and our order was taken very shortly after. I got the Memphis Po'Boy (without coleslaw) and I thought it was delicious. It came jam packed and piping hot with great flavor. I was afraid that there would be too much BBQ sauce and it would be sloppy to eat, but it was the opposite as there was just enough to give it its flavor. ***Unfortunately have never gotten to eat here... because I have a shell fish allergy. So this review is not in regards to the food, but the communication of staff/manager. 2 stars because my husband has eaten here before and liked it. I was really craving fried catfish tonight, and there are very few places in the Memphis area that fry their catfish separately from the shellfish. I ALWAYS call restaurants before and ask to be sure prior to driving, waiting for a table, and then being disappointed. So my husband called, explained my shellfish allergy, and asked if catfish was safe for me. Whomever he spoke to on the phone said I should be fine, that they just note shellfish allergy on the ticket, and there are no issues. So we go, and we wait about 20ish minutes to be seated. We order waters, then I informed the waitress of my shellfish allergy so she could note it for the kitchen--to which she got the manager, who said she would not suggest I order any seafood... So we ended up just leaving, because I really wanted fish and not chicken from a seafood restaurant. All in all, on behalf of fish-loving, shellfish-allergic people like me (in which there are MANY), please just be open, consistent, and honest across your staff regarding this, as this was incredibly frustrating. I hate wasting time, and I was borderline hangry, and I felt terrible just leaving... but it easily could have been prevented. read more

The Catfish Poboy is fantastic with amazing sweet potato fries! Sometimes I go for a vegetable plate and all my selections have been excellent!
