They didn't have the sweet potato pie and I learned they may never carry it again due to her mother being the one that made it and she passed. (Rest in power queen!) The food was really good. I ordered a few items since it was my first time here. I heard rave reviews about this place. My first order was chicken wings and fries, which was crunchy, hot & seasoned. I snuck a taste of both and was satisfied. My next order was fried shrimp, mac & cheese, and cabbage. I was told there will only be 8 large shrimp but there was much more. I gave my mac and cheese away since it wasn't my favorite but the cabbage was really good. My next order was just a side of sweet potatoes which was decent, I shared this and it was a fave. The last two items ordered were sweet tea, which was a thumbs up and peach cobbler which I did not enjoy due to the cake mixture to the cobbler. I found out about this local business via twitter and I told myself I had to go! All of the pictures of their food looked amazing. I got around to going the other day and I ordered the Billie Holiday (crab cake sandwich) with fries and a strawberry mint lemonade. The sandwich was delicious! I came across this gem because I was looking for food nearby Penn station and wanted to try out some comfort food in the area. I placed my order over the phone 45 minutes before closing and the food was ready within 15 minutes for pickup. Service was friendly and accommodating, ensuring I had utensils since I was on the go. This shrimp Mac bowl was everything I could dream of -- saucy, cheesy, and flavorful. The shrimp is juicy and packed with delicious seasoning, and each piece of pasta was packed with cheese. My meal also came with complimentary cornbread which was also delicious. Note that there isn't really seating available and that the restaurant is more so for carry out. Finally, I found a good soul food carry out. Most establishments have average food and/or small portions - this restaurant does not. My favorite thing to order is the roasted chicken. The quality of the food was exemplary of why this cuisine is aptly called "soul food." With every bite, I felt the heart and soul of the person who made it pass through my body down to my own soul. Savory brioche buns seared with a subtle crisp. Chicken + cheesesteak cooked to perfection. Clean consistent texture and freshness all around. We went to their Light Street Pavilion location at Harbor place, the entrance is on the side closest to the Science Center. It's a short menu but very good! Two of us enjoyed freshly cooked lunches over two visits from skipping overpriced Convention Center offerings: catfish sandwiches were freshly fried and delicious, shrimp had light batter and a dipping sauce that was on point, and the wings were perfectly battered and seasoned-I asked for hot sauce but barely used any because they were tasty (not overly spicy-hot) and flavorful. Fries were piping hot and seasoned with a salt, pepper and herb blend that was a delicious variation. They had two puddings, the butter crunch came home with me and was creamy goodness with bits of confection/toffee that had me wishing I had more. The food and the Customer Service was pretty amazing! I think the best thing they could have ever done was have a business across the street from the school board. They serve breakfast but they specialize in Turkey Burgers. The price is reasonable and the wait time to get a freshly made meal was real fast.
