I've been wanting to come here for a long time, but I was never in the area at the right time. I finally had the opportunity to come after school last Tuesday. It was slightly difficult to find depending on where you're coming from. The Soup Kitchen is immediately to your left when you come off the freeway (I totally missed the turn and had to re-route). There's only a one way road to get in, and to get out was a pretty sketchy experience. The restaurant kind of looked like a warehouse from the outside, and it had a very industrial, high school cafeteria-like interior. I asked the very friendly employee what she recommended I order since it was my first time, and she recommended the Tuesday special of BLT + swiss sandwich and a cup of their broccoli cheddar soup. I also ordered a small drink and put some bread sticks and utensils on my tray (again adding to the high school nostalgia). I real liked that they offered free bread sticks (cheese and garlic), and you can take as many as you feel like you'll be able to finish. I would have preferred them to have been warm or toasted but they were free so can't complain. She gave me my cup of soup after putting it in the microwave for a couple of minutes, which was odd and made me think I was being served one of those Campbell's soups you buy at the store. I was surprised that the soup actually tasted homemade, it had a good amount of cheese and broccoli ratio, and the broccoli wasn't super mushy which was pleasant. I did think it needed more seasoning, some more salt and pepper would have made it really shine. The sandwich was the real winner of my meal. The bread was perfectly toasted, there was so much crispy thick bacon that I was in love. I usually do not order BLTs because they get kind of dry, and they tend to be better in theory than execution, but this sandwich is what all good BLTs should be. I would recommend Soup Kitchen if you're in the area and looking for some comfort food. I can see myself coming back and trying some of their other menu options next time I'm in the area. read more

I had lunch here with a client due to its proximity to his office. Small, hole in the wall place- unassuming. I ordered a Carved Turkey sandwich which was good, had a breadstick that worked, but the cheese soup was inedible...Sorry guys, but back to the drawing board on that one!.. read more

I got a spicy chili with turkey sandwich, and my friend got clam chowder with a italian sub. The food was well prepared, delicious, satisfying and made with love. Highly recommend. I guess the catering business is booming with Soup Kitchen. They had to close the restaurant for the rest of the day while they got ready for a big catering job. They let my friend and me stay as long as we wanted. Great place for lunch or a catering order. read more

I was in SLC last week for work and some people said they were taking us to "the soup kitchen" for lunch. I thought that they were joking, like they were going to take us to the homeless shelter. This location is in an industrial area and you'd really not know it's there. Wow. For a bare-bones restaurant this place rocks! I had the hot pastrami sandwich and chicken with wild rice soup. Yum. I love me some soup kitchen. The prices are great and the food is always good. The pastrami rocks and I literally get it every time. Buddies of mine love the SKS amongst others. It's close to my work place so we come often. The ladies behind the counter are pretty cool as well. They gave my buddy crap cause he doesn't eat his vegetables haha. read more

This location of Soup Kitchen is decidedly unpretentious. Located right of the 6N freeway exit in the shadow of the trainyard and the refinery, the clientele is there for one thing, and one thing only: eating soup & sammiches! This place is under the ramp with a crazy one way road getting in. Its pretty hidden. My first time experiencing the soup kitchen and it was decent. Nothing mind blowing. I tried the grilled cheese, egg salad sandwich, chicken salad sandwich, chicken and rice soup and tomato soup. I just tasted, not ate all that food. Out of everything, the tomato soup was delicious. Prices are cheap. Food is filling but you wont get stuffed. Inside is like a school cafeteria. We had to wait for the lady to finish hacking before we could give her our order. read more

On cold days, which come around a lot here in Utah, I almost always get a hankering for a soup and a sandwich. With soup kitchen, I always get that hankering remedied. I love soups, so with this place, I can take my pick from a respectable variety of soups. My favorite combo is the split pea soup (with free breadsticks of course) with the ham and swiss sandwich. I really like the sandwich on Spratted wheat, with that slathering of creamy mayo, the tangy pickles lices, smoky ham, and the alfalfa sprouts. You get cool, creamy, tangy, and smoky all in one. This place is the best --I've tried almost all their soups, and have never been disappointed. The chicken noodle and tomato really can't be beat, the cream of mushroom might be my favorite. In my opinion, it's a better product at a cheaper price than Whole Foods. The salads and sandwiches are fresh and the self-serve bread sticks come in 3 flavors and are always tasty --we like to accumulate them for homemade stuffing and croutons too. The women behind the counter are always fast and friendly --they recognize us when we come in now. I wish they were open on Sundays, but that's my only complaint :) read more

Food is two stars, but the breadsticks and cookies bump this up to a three stars. The food is basic, and fairly bland. Stick to the soups and sandwiches - it's what they're good at. I like the egg salad and tuna salad. The grilled cheese is good. Avoid the sourdough bread, it's like a white hamburger bun. But there are some other good bread options. Tomato soup is the best, the rest are kind of thick. Like too thick. Chili is bland. The free, all you want breadsticks are VERY yummy. Their cookies are also delicious. I always get one. Soup kitchen for life! I grew up going to the soy kitchen with my dad so when I moved into the area and found one close to me I was so excited! Their Italian sub is my favorite sandwich but they're all good. I can never decide which soup to get because I love them all. And do even get me started on those yummy breadsticks! read more

I have been looking for this place and finally noticed it in on the weekend, kind of under the bridge on 600 N. I got there today and ordered soup and sandwich. I went to pay and my credit card was declined ....not sure if there's anything more embarrassing than a charge for $7.87 being declined.....the nice ladies told me I could eat and then come back to pay them. I went home (about 4 blocks away) and found out that my card had been shut down because of "suspicious" activity. Long story short, I got it fixed and went back within 30 minutes to pay them (I'm sure they didn't think I was coming back). The soup and sandwich were very tasty! read more

I didn't even want to eat here because I was so turned off by the employees. They close @3:30pm, I arrived @ 3 & my first impression was that the employee was annoyed that I came 30 min. before they closed. The grill & fryer were already off, so my menu options were cut short. I've heard nothing but positive things about their food, but if someone acts like they don't want to be there or have me as a customer, then I'll take my money elsewhere.
