[[HIGHLIGHT]]Small but mighty cafe located in Julian.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] We went there for breakfast and there were a bunch of locals there early. The service was quick and friendly. [[HIGHLIGHT]]It was too cold to eat outside, but they do have picnic table patio seating.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] We had the eggs Benedict, breakfast sandwich, and pancakes. Everyone loved their food. I had a pot of their tea and I wasn't disappointed. They have quite the collection of tea pots. Since it was breakfast time - I didn't get to try the crepes or soup. Next time!

Hard to see from the street but a hidden gem awaits.

Fantastic find to enjoy a meal near the Julian Town Square Music event. Had the half salad and sandwich, meatball sub special. The house salad was the best, simple, tasty, fresh and no skimping on quality. My wife enjoyed a BLT w/avocado on toasted sourdough with sweet potato fries. Again, the quality was off the charts as my wife claims the best she has had ever and the fries were crispy outside and yummy insides. This place sets a high standard, we will be back for more soon. Our server was super friendly, very attentive, and helped make this experience charming.

Was in Julian for the day. Saw this place while walking Main Street. I was not expecting much. I was surprised I liked the food. Got the tomato soup and a bbq brisket hamburger with potato salad. Brisket hamburger was good and had a slight crunch to it. Potato salad was paired nice with the brisket. Service was friendly. Food was served promptly. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Inside was clean.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I would definitely come back for the bbq brisket sandwich.

We stopped by here while walking the strip in Julian. What a great find! The customer service was the best. From quickly being seated to the follow up service and food delivery, the waiter and waitress were very nice. The place is very spacious inside and decorated with lots of local paintings and plants. The food was really good! We ordered the burger and the brisket and both were very good. The burger was almost too much meat but worked well. The brisket was some of the best I've tried. It was thinly sliced and almost melted in your mouth. The menu wasn't huge but the 2 items we tried were very good.

Wife and I stopped by this place for breakfast and we were NOT disappointed! From the moment we entered, we were met with friendly greetings. Service was awesome and the food came out really quickly. Both of us got the breakfast plate with 2 eggs, bacon, potatoes, and toast. Everything tasted amazing! Especially the potatoes, which were perfectly seasoned and perfectly crispy. We would highly recommend this place for anyone visiting Julian!!

I wanted to enjoy our Monday motorcycle ride thru the mountains and knew it was time to get to Julian. For years, I've passed on Main Street to head into Borrego or Santa Ysabel. But, it was over due. And it wasn't for the typical apple pie selections. I wanted something other than. Something that wouldn't be quite heavy on the gut for my first meal of the day and then a hour and a half ride back home. Soups & Such Cafe was EXACTLY what nailed it. You can't miss the soft pastel green building on Main Street. Nestled on the corner of C Street, there's limited parking stalls in the rear. And towards the corner is an access ramp and at the opposite end- stairs. From the brief business photos we've seen, I had no idea outdoor tables are available. Which was perfect for our brunch visit. The two tables are specifically reserved for S&S patrons. But, walk inside to speak with staff at the register and make sure you see what's available on the Special's board. Besides not wanting apple pie- I wanted light fare and a menu that offers something different than what you'd get from majority of menus along Main Street. Once I saw the half sandwich( Classic Deli on sourdough), soup (Thai Style Chicken), and (Caesar) salad - $18. Since a website isn't available on Google- make sure to check out current menu photos for updated costs. I upgraded to Caesar salad, and there was no skimping on Parmesan shavings! The buttered croutons were light and golden. I love how a Caesar salad is coated just right with dressing. The cup of Thai Chicken- spicy, w/ coconut milk, chicken, lemongrass, cilantro, ginger, leeks, bell peppers, green peas, and hot chili peppers. Every spoonful packed flavor. There wasn't a measly crumb left on my plate. And I had some ample room left in my belly. I told our server I'd like to try the homemade flan. (Bea's Homemade Flan). And her face lit up. She was so thrilled to include she is Bea! I loved seeing her genuine smile as she mentioned she made the flan. Perfect serving that was meant all for myself. The caramel sauce was light and thin. Which was perfect. Each chilled spoonful was decadent. Thick and creamy. With lil sips of the French pressed coffee in between bites of the custard, I knew I was going home happy. I told Bea to please give the cook our compliments. Because with every bite of my combo lunch, made me give reason as to why I would definitely come right back.

    Cute decor.

It's been awhile since I've updated my review. We were in town this weekend and staying in an Air B&B just a short walk away and decided to try them for breakfast. It was at 8:30am on a cold & blustery Saturday so it wasn't too crowded yet. Lola greeted us and went through the menu with us. Though I don't normally order eggs benedict, she convinced me they are exceptional. I ordered them with ham and had some avocado added. It was a great recommendation and I would order them again. Don ordered the pancake breakfast with bacon and scrambled eggs. The buttermilk pancakes were pretty good, loved the bacon and the eggs were perfectly cooked. The coffee was also very nice as they serve a medium roasted Columbia that they French press. We love how the place is decorated with lots of art that is for sale with some lovely plants and flowers also available for sale. I believe we were told that breakfast is only served between 8am-10am. But, if you miss it, their lunch is terrific! It was a very nice experience!

Soups & Such Cafe has the best food and staff! I ordered a 1/2 sandwich (curry tuna), Soup (chicken Thai) and salad. Everything was Amazing!!! You have to try the curry tuna!! I have never had a sandwich so good!! The Thai chicken soup was also amazing and the house salad was delicious! I will definitely come back and highly recommend this cafe!

Our favorite spot in Julian for lunch, we've been stoping here for a few years now when driving through. Everything is always fresh and delicious. The server was super sweet, a lovely person. Ambiance is like eating inside a quaint home. Only one restroom which is a slight drawback when things are busy.

Came here for a post-hike breakfast and are so glad we made it in time to try (breakfast no longer served after 10:15am). We were greeted immediately and sat right away. The inside is very spacious and homey. They also sell some small trinkets and stuff! Our waitress was very friendly and helpful. The breakfast was delicious (ordered the Cafe Breakfast Special)!! The potatoes were so crispy and had great flavor. Eggs were cooked perfectly. Coffee was flavorful. I would absolutely come back here and hope others are able to try them out.

Very yummy French onion soup and sandwiches.

We were not disappointed at all. Upon arriving, there was a musician playing, and they did seat us off to the right so we could not see but could hear still. There is outdoor and indoor seating, but at the time we came it appeared that the outdoor was reserved for an event. We happily sat inside! Having met Jeremy's parents earlier in the day who also recommended his restaurant, and they were just lovely, we had hoped to possibly meet Jeremy too. I wanted to try everything, but we opt on getting a few dishes to share. Our son ordered the filet mignon and they were able to substitute mashed potatoes for fries. Amazing!! The mac & brisket appetizer appeared to be the highlight and specialty and we just had to order it. Every bite was cheeesy and delicious with the brisket very moist. We couldn't go without ordering the Brussels sprouts and it had a twist with ponzu sauce and pineapple. Definitely a different take and I thoroughly enjoyed the taste. Every bite was foodgasmic and I highly recommend!!! I knew coming here that some Yelpers have experienced wavering in quality, so glad we did not experience that at all. As of the date that we came, we understood that the restaurant had been listed for sale, not sure if Jeremy sold it yet or not. I hope not, we plan on coming back this summer!

That said, I do want to clarify that, from what I observed, we were not the last table to be seated. I understand it was a busy Fourth of July, and I know everyone can make mistakes. My disappointment wasn't because of the wait alone--it was because my order was incorrect multiple times, and I was eventually asked again what I had ordered even though it was just biscuits and gravy. By the time my food finally arrived, the experience had already been affected. I don't expect perfection, especially on a busy holiday. I simply shared my honest experience and hope it helps improve service for future guests. -------------------- We ordered our food and my friend received her meal, but my order of biscuits and gravy didn't come out correctly. The server acknowledged the mistake, saying it was her fault and that she would get it fixed right away. Unfortunately, the wrong order was brought out, and the staff had to come back and ask what I had originally ordered. It was a simple order--just biscuits and gravy--so it was frustrating that it was difficult to get right. When the correct food finally arrived, the experience had already been delayed and a bit discouraging. At that point, I was honestly just over it, especially when I was asked if I wanted a box, as if we were finished. Overall, the food was fine once it arrived, but the service experience that day was disorganized and left a negative impression.

We already got our pie fix at Mom's, but made this our last stop before heading out. It was so cold out, a super chilly day, there's nothing more perfect than to grab a hot cup of steaming Apple Cider! It hit the spot! I couldn't stop just standing there sipping my hot cider while waiting for our to go items to be prepared. We got two apple cider donuts, one cinnamon sugar and one chocolate dipped. Long ago, I tried these tiny heart shaped pie crust cookies covered in cinnamon and sugar - Apple Memories! These are crisp tiny bites of love that you want to take home every single time! There are actually two buildings. One where you can grab a bite to eat, the other has all the merchandise, and both have whole frozen pies to grab to go! The building where you can dine has a small inside dining area, it can get cozy in there, but on a chilly day, that is exactly what you want! Just outside there is plenty of room outdoors to enjoy the scenery. In the merchandise building I couldn't help myself... we took home a whole gallon of apple cider, and also bought a jar of Cinnamon Apple Honey Spread and a jar of Apple butter... absolute yum! The hubs also decided to try the apple cinnamon chapstick! Yes, you can grab one of these famous pies at many different establishments throughout San Diego. To make name a few, Iowa Farms, Spring Valley Market, Siesel's and even at Vons! The sandwiches were also very good, though the Ruben could have used a tad more sauerkraut to balance the flavors. The fries on their own are double fried or battered (or something along those lines) and have an incredible crunchy texture! We came on what I would consider a moderately busy day for Julian, I've seen Miner's Diner packed to the brim before. Our server, Kaylin or Kaitlin (I'm sorry about the spelling!) was amazing. I even brought friends who had never been here before, thinking it could become one of our regular stops when we're out hitting the trails. Instead, it left a bad taste in everyone's mouth... and not just from the food. Waitress: Where do I even start. She claimed she was hard of hearing--but her attitude spoke loud and clear. Tossing menus on the table, aggressively slamming salsa down, and getting snarky over being off because our party count was off by one person. Seriously? It took two seconds to adjust the table, but apparently that was just too much. Yes, she technically did her job... but with such a cold, unwelcoming, and rigid attitude that it made the whole experience uncomfortable. What really stood out? We were there first and ready to order, yet she chose to take care of every smaller table that came in after us. No communication, no "I'll be right with you," nothing. Just ignored. Basic courtesy clearly isn't part of the service here. And trust me--I used to be a waitress. I handled large parties all the time and actually communicated with my tables. It's not that hard. Honestly, if gratuity hadn't already been forced onto the bill, she would've gotten $0. The only pleasant person we encountered was the busser--quick, friendly, and actually seemed like he wanted to be there. Maybe swap their roles, because he outperformed her by a mile. Food: Let's talk about the food... if that's what we're calling it. Everything came out cold. Not "warm-ish," not "could be hotter"... just straight up cold. It felt like our plates were sitting under a heat lamp for way too long before making it to the table. One "white" friend asked to have her meal fixed--fine, no problem. But when another "Hispanic" friend asked the same thing? Suddenly there was attitude, menu slamming, and mumbling under her breath. So... what exactly was the difference? Why the inconsistency and hostility? If the kitchen is that backed up, maybe management should step in and help instead of letting food die in the window. Just a thought. Final Thoughts: This place had potential... but that waitress single-handedly ruined it. We'll be taking our group (and our money) elsewhere--Dudley's Bakery is looking like a much better option moving forward. I usually bring large groups out here, so this isn't a small loss. Unfortunately, if this is the level of service they're okay with, this place isn't going to improve anytime soon. At this point, it's less "Farmhouse charm" and more "junky barn energy."
