We went for a hike in Julian and decided to have lunch after. The food here was excellent. My husband got a cheeseburger and fries. The cheeseburger was great and the fries were a 10/10! I have a Cobb salad and that was delicious too. I recommend this place if your in Julian. read more

Solid 4 stars for this lovely gem in the heart of Julian! I came by here at almost exactly 10:30, hoping for breakfast. They end breakfast at 10:30, but I was JUST on time! Phew! I was glad because oneeded it after hiking nearby Volcan mountain! I ordered the breakfast combination that has: 2 organic eggs, 2 slices of applewood bacon, potatoes and 2 slices of toast. The total for the meal was $9.99. I also ordered coffee and it cost $2.50. I ordered the eggs over hard because don't care for runny yolks--they were mostly over-hard, only a little bit of runniness. I got the sourdough bread which was amazing. The potatoes were also great. They came with some seasonings and a few thinly sliced red onions, which I didn't mind at all! The bacon was alright. Seemed a tad hard and kinda like not cooked right then. I did enjoy this little gem and I will come back here! Somethings to keep in mind: 1) they can't accommodate groups larger than 4 due to the interior space 3) breakfast ends promptly at 10:30. I'm looking forward to coming back here and trying another breakfast dish!! read more

The service was absolutely incredible. The staff was polite, attentive, and really made the wait time nice. The ambiance was also cozy, a very nice place to go as a small group of 2, or as a big family. The food does take around 30 minutes to come out but there are signs letting you know this, so it is not a surprise. I was just a bit disappointed in the menu and ultimately the food. My girlfriend and I are weirdly very into soups. We love to make soup at home, and when we planned this trip, this place became one of our most anticipated stops. The menu had 5 soups, but none of them were really a standard soup. I had the green harvest with a grilled cheese, and both were very mediocre. The green harvest was super thick, not much flavor, and the portion was small. After waiting 35 minutes for food you would imagine the soup from a place called soups and such to be really great but it just wasn't. The grilled cheese was also not really hot and they didn't have 2 of the cheese options advertised, not really a big deal there. All in all you will have a good time here, it's cozy and adorable, but be ready to wait for food and be ready for a short soup menu. read more

On 1/12/22 had breakfast with my husband. Love the ambiance. So many beautiful hanging plants with macrame hangers. My husband wanted eggs Benedict and saw a previous review that it was awesome so had to try it. I ordered 2 scrambled eggs, home fries and toast. My home fries were so good my Husband ordered his own side order. The Benedict doesn't come with any sides. The veggie Benedict has avocado and red pepper. He loved it! Loved the home fries, the eggs, bacon and everything we ordered! Oh the iced coffee was amazing too! Iced coffee with coffee ice, perfect. Eat here for breakfast and you won't be disappointed! read more

I visited this restaurant two days in a row that's how great it is. Our server Rachel was very friendly and seated us right away. This is the place to eat in Julian. I loved their sweet potato fries and the eggs Benedict. 10/10 would recommend to everyone I know. read more

I was so happy that I stumbled upon this place. My mom and I visit Julian twice a year but this time around was the first time we stopped in to have lunch here. I never knew it existed. The clientele seemed to be mainly locals. A large chunk knew each other by name. I was pleasantly surprised by the quality and taste of the food. I had an incredible cheeseburger with bacon on a nice brioche bun. It was super yummy and jigundo (really big). My mom ordered the spinach quiche with French onion soup and house salad. She enjoyed her meal too. The service was great too. Kat was friendly. She served us with a smile and checked in on us often to make sure our meal was great. My mom and I watched the owner's son busting his butt pulling dry bushes and weeds outside in front of the restaurant. I felt bad for him but he was earning his keep. LOL. The ambiance of the restaurant's interior is quite eclectic. The decor is mismatched. I immediately noticed that there are three different sets of flooring. I thought it was cute that there are cloud panels in the ceiling. Local artist drawings and paintings hang on the wall and are for sale. Everything is well kept up and maintained. Floor, table tops and ceilings are free of dirt and dust bunnies. The restaurant shares a storefront with Flowers by Lani. I will definitely return the next time I am in town. read more

Thoughts there would be most soup options given the name. Small local place. Got the green harvest and it kind of looks like tomatillo salsa :P real hot soup with cheddar cheese and bread croutons on top. Tasted homemade. The toppings made it. Comes with a bread roll. If you have a group larger than 4 people DO NOT COME HERE. Aside from the fact that they have a sign stating that they cannot "easily accommodate" parties larger than 4, if you ask they won't even try and it will accompanied with attitude. If you're from out of town you're better off going elsewhere. Seems like the locals are the only ones keeping them in business. read more

What a lovely spot to have breakfast! This is a small cafe with great, super friendly service and delightful homemade breakfast food. The pancakes are super fluffy and the hollandaise is the best I've had - perfectly light and slightly tart (highly recommend the benedict with peppers and avocado). Love it here. The ladies are so sweet and helpful. Great service. Just a small little place on the hill in town. Homemade soups are fantastic. I think my butternut Soup had some Carrot in it. It was pipin hot. I tried the Quiche Forentine, which was perfect. No salt needed and the crust flaked right into the fork. A huge side of salad is served with it as well as the cup of soup. The BLT's are huge. They are dry but they give you a condiment bar with mayo and all the fixings you need to do your self. I like that. You make it perfect. Huge salad and plate full of sweet potato fries included. Such a great place to stop for lunch! read more

Average at best. We should've gone to another restaurant. The soup we each had was the best thing we ordered. Ask if they're charging you for what they recommend with your plate, trust me. Simple and overpriced. Service could've been better as well. It's annoying to keep asking for what you already asked for or what should've already been brought out. We were one of two or three tables. They could've done a lot better. Won't be back. read more

Back in March I had recovered from a cold, however I still had that urge for comfort food. I placed and order for soups and such and warmed my soul after consuming this deliciously picked up food. I sampled a cup of french onion & thai style chicken. Both of these were savory enough to give me the warmth and comfort I was seeking as well as a flavorful satiety. I topped this off with a grilled cheese which was awesome. I certainly recommend this establishment. read more

When I was searching for a lunch spot in Julian, Soups & Such immediately jumped out at me. Not only are there not a lot of dining options in the area but a lot of them don't have the best reviews or ratings. The fact that this cafe managed to get a higher rating than most among a Yelp community that seems difficult to please in this small town piqued my interest. A quick look at the menu, which thankfully someone posted on Yelp since it doesn't seem that there's a website, and I decided this would be the perfect spot for lunch with my girl friends. With a group of seven, we would have had to wait for a table indoors but could immediately be sat an one of two picnic tables outside. Since the tables were in the shade and it was a pleasant day outside, we decided to dine al fresco. The picnic tables only seat six comfortably but we were able to squeeze a chair onto the end to fit our group. The cafe specializes in standard lunch food, like sandwiches, soups and salads. You can order just one or choose a combination of two or even all three. I decided to order the deli turkey sandwich with a side of french fries. The sandwich, which is served on a choice of white, wheat and sourdough) comes with lettuce and tomato but extras like cheese or avocado are available for a $1 or so each. The menu says the sandwiches come with mayo and dijon mustard but in reality, the condiments are served at the table and your sandwiches arrive bare. Not a huge problem but just something that I thought should be acknowledged as we were all surprised that our sandwiches were dry on our first bite. Then we discovered the basket with the mayo and mustard and were quickly able to remedy the situation. One other slight note. I thought about ordering the half sandwich and side salad but didn't because the menu says the side salad has a vinaigrette dressing. I found out after another friend ordered that the restaurant is actually able to accommodate any dressing option for the salad despite what the menu said. Had I known that, I would have gotten a side salad with ranch instead of the full sandwich and fries. All in all, it was a tasty meal at a decent price, about $11 for my turkey sandwich with swiss. I'd definitely consider visiting again on future Julian visits. read more

We discovered this great little cafe that doubles as a flower shop in Julian while staying here for a relaxing weekend away from work and the hectic city life. The place serves a great assortment of sandwiches, soups and salads and is open drom 10-5. We enjoyed our sandwiches so much we ate here a second time on our way out of town. Soups & Such has numerous options such has a 1/2 soup or 1/2 salad along with a 1/2 sandwich. Be sure to check out the daily soup of the day. The staff is very friendly and consist of one cashier/server and one cook. As the food is prepared fresh once ordered there will be a bit if a wait but its worth it. The pricing is around $10 for a sandwich which is a bit pricey but seeing as this is very much a tourist town this is no surprise. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone visiting or passing through the city. I will be back next time we are in the area for sure. My husband planned on visiting this place once we made our Julian trip. (We were yelping in advance). The first day we arrived he went by here to grab us dinner, or linner I should say. Most places out in Julian are closed by 5:00. He got himself a BLT on white with french fries, and got me the half sandwich of a BLT on multi grain, with a half salad. I am thinking that the dressing was italian, but I'm not positive. All of it was delicious! Loved the leafy lettuce, (not that iceberg crispy water stuff), delicious bread, the salad tasted fresh and the dressing was delicious. The morning that we were leaving we got the same order, but I got him sourdough since they had more selections that day. (They were out of some breads the first time since they were closing soon). I loved it again. I should have tried the tomato soup but I really liked what I had. The inside is a little small, but so clean, set up nice, and such a quaint, comfortable little place to enjoy. Service is friendly also. They also have burgers and such too if you prefer that. read more

Great place for lunch! (also locals recommend it for breakfast as well) Very adorable and homey decor inside with beautiful wall mural. They offer a variety of soups and lunch combos. I went with a french onion soup and quiche combo and it was absolutely delicious. Spinach quiche was extremely soft and fluffy, just melted in my mouth. French onion soup had a proper sourdough cheesy bread, the broth was very rich and flavorful. Combo came with a simple house salad. I used to love this place.We went today and I was told no more bowls of soup.You can only order a cup.I also felt my half BLT had hardly any bacon!Raise your prices and do what you need to do.Giving people smaller and smaller portions of food sucks.No bowls of soup?Better change your name right away because you are saying soup is a main item.I wont go out of my way to come here again.The other cafes in Julian are better these days. read more

IM SO GLAD WE WALKED IN Their Mac & cheese is FANTASTIC I ordered it & regrettably gave my bf a bite & he immediately had to order his own serving. So I highly recommend everyone just order their own square. Their soups are delicious & fresh. Definitely some homemade cooking & worth any wait. The food was absolutely delicious and so incredibly flavorful. We had the Thai chicken soup with a Greek salad-both were packed with flavor! We also had a curry tuna sandwich which was such a delightful surprise! The corn chowder was thick and hearty. Nothing we enjoyed here was bad in any way! The prices weren't terrible either. For a small place in a mountain town, the food was great, service friendly, and prices reasonable. read more

Soups & Such is a perfect start to the day! We popped in early on a Sunday morning. My daughter enjoyed yummy pancakes & mmm bacon, of which I had to order an extra plate for myself since she wouldn't share more than one bite of that perfectly crisp bacon. I ordered homemade granola with fruit which she tried to take too. But she's only 7, so there's that. Bonus points for our super friendly server who was genuinely sweet about confirming ingredients as I have a bunch of food allergies, and the owner who came by when I asked about the delicious black currant tea. My only regret is that we didn't have an opportunity to try their lunch menu too. read more

Long ago, I tried these tiny heart shaped pie crust cookies covered in cinnamon and sugar - Apple Memories! These are crisp tiny bites of love that you want to take home every single time! There are actually two buildings. One where you can grab a bite to eat, the other has all the merchandise, and both have whole frozen pies to grab to go! The building where you can dine has a small inside dining area, it can get cozy in there, but on a chilly day, that is exactly what you want! The Angus burger and the grilled chicken cobb salad are our two go-to favorites when we come here; they always get our motor started :-) When it's time for dessert, the chocolate mousse and the bourbon apple bread pudding are delicious, and more than a little decadent as well. The dining area is very comfortable and relaxed, as well as being quite spacious. There's also lots easy convenient parking. We didn't have a choice of what to order…read moreas it was pre-determined by the picnic setup for us, but were given two large sandwiches - one BLT and one turkey with cheese. Sandwiches were tasty and the staff was friendly. It seemed like the store had just about anything you'd need.
