This is the second night in a row I was denied service during business hours. I showed up at 6:45 to order my food to go and the staff was inside hanging out doing nothing and locked the door when I was walking up and wouldn't serve me. They are shutting down an hour and 15 minutes early and we drove 35 minutes to come and eat here during business hours. They laughed at me at the door and ignored me and continued hanging out with each other so they didn't have to work. very disappointed with this location read more

Being a vegetarian I should have taken the hint when there was only one veggie option on the entire menu. I went ahead and ordered it for both my son and I as he also has a conscience when it comes to food. What we did not anticipate was an 8 inch carrot sandwich. I think the main vegetable was carrots and they carrots and bell peppers may have also been in their "special sauce". The sourdough was sourdough, nothing to write home about. Ultimately I still had the carrot taste six hours after the meal was over. Yuck. They may want to move into the 21st century with a few options for non meat eaters but then maybe they could be bothered. There seemed to be plenty of overfed carnivores roaming about this strangely located establishment. Carnivores may give it a couple more stars but no luck here. read more

Food was good...especially the bread. But there is no atmosphere whatsoever! All the food comes "to go" even if eating there. All plastic utensils, soup comes in cardboard to go containers etc. Would be so much nicer to have plates, silverware, bowls etc and not everything throw-away. read more

This establishment gives each patron a single use plastic spoon/fork and knife solely because they don't want to deal with dishes. Social irresponsibility combined with good old fashioned convenience laziness at its finest. Although the food is tasty, I'll choose not to support it. read more

Not bad, but nothing too special. Choose your meat, cheese and toppings. If you like a "build your own" sandwich then this is your place. Fresh and tasty bread and ingredients. There are 3 size options (4", 6" and 8") and quite a few meat and cheese choices. The default sandwich settings are meat (choose your own), cheese (choose your own) lettuce, tomato, onion, and "House spread", anything else costs extra. I ordered the pesto turkey which tasted fresh but not much like pesto and was delicious with bacon and Monterey Jack cheese on it. The only other thing worth mentioning was that they have one of those new coke machines that allows you to choose any flavor you want! read more

The bread is excellent: the rest, not so much. They close at 7pm: we ordered at 6:40pm, and were informed the lobby closed at 6pm, no indoor seating. Two girls were working the front: one was busy counting tips, the other resignedly drug out the stuff to make our sandwiches. My veggie sandwich had 2 thin, anemic slices of tomato, the sandwich had no taste (other than the yummy bread). Hubby asked for extra meat & cheese, which we were reasonably charged for... but the 'extra' did not appear on the actual sandwich. I've worked the food industry: I well know the desire to get done and go home. BUT: if the place closes at 7pm, ladies, that does NOT mean your goal in life is to have things wrapped up to walk out of there at 7. Sad. We won't be back. read more

My wife and I stopped by for lunch on a cold rainy day. We were in the mood for a hot bowl of soup and a sandwich. I ordered a meat sub and a cup of New England clam chowder. They also had cream of potato soup as an option. The sandwich was crafted well and tasted amazing. The chowder however left a lot to be desired. Was a small cup of what tasted like cream of potato with a can of tiny chopped clam pieces tossed in as an afterthought. And they charged $7.00 for the small 8 ounce cup. Got the brisket sandwich which looked amazing on their website and the meat was nearly grey and very unappealing but it was the only lunch I had so I ate it. I'm definitely paying for it today. First ill start with the Pros: the building looks cool, the staff are friendly, the foods ok and they have a coca cola freestyle machine Cons: the prices are too high for the enviroment and quality. Now if i spent 9$ on a 6" and a cup of soup id gice it a 4 star. But it was 13$ for a pastrami sandwich and a small cup of soup. Served on paper and styrofoam. The breads flavor (which is good) overwhelms the sauce and meat flavor. Ill go back for the soda. read more

I'll start by saying I'm a picky eater so I'm usually not impressed easily, BUT this place was an amazing experience! From food to the atmosphere to the customer service everything was great! I had the 6 inch Garlic Pesto Sandwich and made a meal with the Chicken Pablano Soup and it was absolutely amazing!!The sourdough bread was such a delight, it was soft (not the usual hard sourdough bread at other places) and the meats and veggies were so fresh and full of flavor! Also, there was a great selection to choose from as far sandwiches, soups and salads! I wish I had taken pictures but it was looked too good to wait to eat! The atmosphere was great with an amazing view out of their large windows this was definitely one of my favorite pit stops! I will definitely be back sourdough and co grass valley!!! read more

Including today when I received a hand written note instead of a phone call for a major issue with the order. We've come in here a few times and usually have a good experience. Our only complaint is that they keep the lemon cookies and chocolate chip cookies in the same container. Maybe the are cooked in the same oven too? The chocolate chip cookies taste extremely lemony. I have made a friendly suggestion a couple times to the girls at the counter and the issue is never corrected. Not a huge problem just kind of annoying. I think a separate container would be a pretty simple fix. read more

Highly recommend!!! One of the best spots in the county. The brisket sandwich is to die for and the chowder is excellent. Really good bread too I think they make it there which really adds to the whole experience. I don't trust that futuristic drink machine but it hasn't let me down yet. read more

This place is the worst beware! I enter the business a half hour before closing, and placed my order. They would not let me sit down and eat my meal. They claimed that they had no indoor dining a half hour before closing. If a place is opened until a certain time then they should offer full service. Not half service! When I was picking out a sandwich I saw a picture of the french dip sandwich which looked nice and thick. Then I received the sandwich it only had two slices thick of meat on it with very little cheese. I was quite disappointed. I also ordered the macaroni and cheese with was watery and did not taste good. I found the the prices quite high for what they offered. Visiting from LA and wanted a sandwich, didn't realize I would be served only after the local white people that came in and ordered AFTER me. When I questioned what was happening I was met with blank stares as though I was speaking a foreign language. So I order online a lot for my work lunches because they have decent sandwiches. But I do have to say, they take a LOOOOONG time to make a basic sandwich. Once I ordered just bread with turkey light lettuce and mayo, and mind you there were no customers in the restaurant - but from placing the order to getting it, I watched them make my sandwich and it took nearly 20 minuets to put together one sandwich. I had walked in that day to place an order, but it opened my eyes to why some of my online orders weren't done even if I placed them 30 minuets before pickup. That's just too long for a 4 ingredient sandwich. Your food is good though, but please try to pick up the pace, especially for very simple sandwiches.. Has anyone else had this experience? We stopped in here after a day of tree hunting. Food was amazing, hands down - great sandwich. Was in line to buy fresh loaves to go when my husband starts shaking his head "no" and motions for us to leave. As we leave husband says he watched as an employee who had been making sandwiches, stop to open a box that was on the ground. She uses the same knife she was using on the counter to open the box, open the contents and then goes back to using the same knife to make customers lunch. Oooof...when I think of how many people touched said box while in transit, sat on the floors, trucks, etc. Then the same knife went back to food someone was going to eat? Its a chain. Don't expect fancy restaurant quality but do appreciate that like McD's you do get a consistent good quality value for money product. I agree with a couple of other reviews that the clam chowder is always too hot and it has that been boiling too harshly for too long so its never going to be that New Englander by the sea standard. The bread is consistently good quality with the right 'tang' of sourdough. Most importantly the staff here are lovely. Always friendly and welcoming, even when they are busy they keep you updated on how much longer your food will be and will make eye contact with you and smile while they are working.
