We ordered the regular cheesesteak with provolone (I love Whiz but, let's face it, it's for rookies), and onions. I also got hot peppers on the side and I strongly recommend them. They are very tasty. The cheesesteak was absolutely delicious. The meat was high quality and flavorful and the whole thing went down great. We also tried the fried raviolis with marinara and vodka sauce on the side. You get a bunch of them and they are very good but heavy. This is not a light dish. I am not a cream soda kind of guy but the one we got, Strawberry Dream, was greatly enjoyed by my dining campanion. The place is as big as a shoebox but there is patio seating outside. Service was very friendly. I think it was the owner who was hustling and making sure everyone had everything they needed. I'm on a quest to taste 5-10 different cheesesteak restaurants before deciding which restaurant I like the most. The outdoor food experience at Philly South was good. The cheesesteak tasted good, and the staff were friendly, professional, and helpful. I ordered my cheesesteak with Provolone cheese. It was hot off the grill, delicious, and the bread was warm. When I compare it to the Philly Cheesesteak I had from Philly's Best Cheesesteak a couple days ago, I think Philly's Best wins out by a small margin. It was the cooper cheese at Philly's Best instead of the provolone cheese at South Philly that won the taste test for me. The french fries at South Philly were a little too salty for my taste. Overall I like both locations, but I would go back to Philly's Best before South Philly. Both are good choices though. read more

3.4 stars I was at the office again and decided to try the philly cheesesteak here. I think it's above average. It is definitely a family business and they seem very sweet. The establishment is definitely no-frills. I ordered the cheesesteak wit onions and American cheese and whiz fries ($7). I don't remember how much the sandwich was, but the total plus tax came out to $25-something. The price point isn't great, but the portions are huge. I think my least favorite item is the whiz fries...it was just too salty for me. Seating is all outdoors. I am by no means an expert when it comes to Philly cheesesteaks -- I've been to Philly, had a cheesesteak there, but I'm from Jersey, so an interloper, and that was 30+ years ago -- but I really liked the one I had at this place. I had the regular cheesesteak with whiz cheese, and it was super good. Both the bread and the meat were soft and fresh, and the cheese gave it a really nice kick. It was also a really big sandwich. I probably could've kept half for later, though I don't imagine a cheesesteak being any good when it's not fresh and hot. Speaking of which, my sandwich came out quickly, though not so quick that it made me suspicious. The staff were also nice and friendly, and the place was clean. That said, two notes of possible concern (though not for everyone). First, the place is small, and all the seats are outside, so don't go on a rainy day unless you plan to get it to go. Don't worry, they seem well prepared for this. My sandwhich came out as if I was taking it to go, and was not only nicely wrapped up, but came with lots of napkins. Which brings me to the bigger issue: their napkins were kind of small. Granted, there was a big pile of them, and, as I said, they gave me a bunch when they gave me my sandwich, but I still went through them quickly. And had to wash my hands when I got home (which I always do anyway, but you get the point). Though, admittedly, that may be because the whiz makes the sandwich messier than, I suspect, the provolone or American cheese. Lastly, the place is on Pico, so we're talking metered street parking. Though when I went -- noon on a Thursday -- I had no problem finding a spot. Which will come in handy when I go back. read more

So I recently had the south Philly experience. I can't speak too much to the service cause I got a DoorDash but when I got to it was fresh it was on time so that was really great. I want to start with the sweet chili wings because I didn't know what to expect from them, but they are so delicious so saucy so juicy they were tremendous no critiques no notes highly recommend . This is one of the cheesesteaks that I've had in California. You know a lot of places claim they have great cheesesteaks, but let me tell you something about South Philly experience has a pretty good cheesesteak on their hands. Nice juicy steak tender the meat well season and the portions on it are phenomenal . The bread was nice soft chewy like from soaking in the cheesesteak delicious I would 100% order from here again. Wow! Wow! Wow! I brought my car in next door for an oil change and while waiting I saw this spot. I am a huge sucker for a Philly cheesesteak and as most people know the pickings are slim in Los Angeles. And that's a great Cheesesteak but this one is on another level. It's a family-owned shop everyone I spoke to couldn't have been nicer. 100% top-notch service and the Philly accent adds a great level of authenticity. But what matters most is the food and these cheesesteaks deliver 100%. I ordered a regular cheese steak with Wiz, onions, and peppers. I'm a big dude and it was more than enough to fill me up. The quality of the ingredients is the first thing that jumps out and they're not afraid to season their meat. Everything about it screamed authentic and delicious. This is easily going to be my go-to spot for cheesesteaks going forward and I've already got a few Philly friends heading over here to give it a shot. I know the knock is you can't get a good Cheesesteak out here compared to Philly but if they get better than this out there then I can't wait to go. There's plenty of seating outside and no seating inside. They've got drinks, sodas and chips for sale as well. My Order: - Cheesesteak w/ Sharp Provolone and Hot Cherry Peppers (No Onions) - Whiz Fries The cheesesteak came full of onions which I cannot eat and I think they completely forgot to add salt to the meat because it was completely flavorless and dry. I ended up eating about a 1/4 of the sandwich and had to throw it out. The only positive was that they use good bread for the sandwich. The Whiz Fries were okay. Similar to other whiz fries I've ordered from other places. As someone who orders Philly Cheesesteaks from all around LA, this was disappointing. Stopped here for lunch on a tip from a friend. Street parking and Outside seating are available. This tiny shop is a hidden gem. Ordered the cheesecake with onions, bell peppers, and Pat's way (American Cheeze). Inside the wrapping, was a perfect Philly cheesesteak, against which all other cheesecakes should be measured. The reason why I'm giving four out of five stars is because I think they don't have any hot sauce available like other places I've been. Good food and great service! I don't claim to be an expert on Philly cheesesteaks, but I have tried both Geno's and Pat's in Philadelphia (both are tourist traps, I know). I have also tried Boo's here in L.A. Out of these four, I personally prefer South Philly Experience, and would rank it first place. I ordered cheeseteak "wit" onions and provolone cheese, no peppers, as well as a side of whiz fries. The cheesesteak was so flavorful, and the bread was good. I'm told their Amoroso rolls are brought in from back east. The whiz fries were also delicious, and the portions for both the cheesesteak and the fries were generous. A place has to be really good for me to battle traffic from the western end of the valley to do repeat visits. This place is definitely worth the drive for me. I came on a Saturday around noon, and the place was not too busy, but I did see a good number of people stop by to pick up takeout orders. I first heard of the roast pork italian sandwich on a TV show called "Man vs Food." It's a popular sandwich in Philly, not as famous as the cheese steak sandwich, but according to "Man vs Food" roast pork sandwich is just as good. I was planning to go to Tony Luke's Philly sandwich in Las Vegas because I heard they had the roast pork sandwich. Recently, on instagram, I found out this location had the roast pork sandwich. Eventually, I will go to Tony Luke's in Las Vegas, but today I decided to come here with my brother. We ordered 2 roast pork sandwiches, and one order of fries. We were about to buy 2 orders of fries, but the owner said one order is enough for 2 people. One order of fries is $6, and the owner was right, the amount was more than enough for 2 people. I'd say, it was enough for 3 people, because my brother and I couldn't finish it. As for the sandwiches...The roast pork is either the 2nd best sandwich in Los Angeles or even the best sandwich in Los Angeles. The only sandwich I think maybe better is the Langer's Pastrami. However, the roast pork is cheaper and bigger than Langers. The roast pork is very juicy, not just tender. I'm guessing it's made with soaking marinade, because the bread was slightly wet. The crab texture was like pulp and the flavor/smell reminiscent of the seafood counter at grocery stores. The melted white cheese was ok. The fries were good though, thin shoestring style and plenty of Old Bay seasoning. Value wise, definitely something to share with 4 people.
