I did not like the bread. The quality of the meat was not there. It was not really that great of a sandwich. I got a Philly with American.

I visited this location last year. The cheese steaks were thick and gurthy plenty of meat cheese and toppings. Returned today, barely had cheese meat didn't even reach the ends of the roll. It looked like a subway sandwich. Told the stank chick in those little as shorts american cheese 4 time and still received provolone. Typical food place, in the beginning its fire then its chintcy short and trying to save a buck... people are kind and the place is really clean. read more

Probably the best Philly cheesy steak you can get in LA or atleast it's in contention for the best. I get the regular cheese steak with wiz and it was phenomenal. From the whiz, to the onions to even the bread everything blends so well. Also tried the cali cheesesteak which came with fries and some peppers and that was also really good. This is the third time I've been here and every time it's been consistently great. The people who work there (believe it's the family that runs it) are all really nice and helpful. Really good , authentic tasting cheesesteak. Plenty of cheese and grilled onions. Steak is chopped, works really well with cheese. Bread also phenomenal, squishy and absorbs all the juices without falling apart. Will be back read more

I'm from Philly and am usually disappointed by cheesesteaks in LA. The owners are from south jersey and are doing it right! I had the roast pork sandwich with broccoli rab and prov cheese. The meat was tender and juicy. The broth was flavorful. Perfect soft amoroso rolls. And they make really good flavored sodas to drink (like a good carbonated agua fresca). If we were in Philly this is a solid 4 star sandwich (high praise) but they deserve 5 stars for being in LA and sticking to Philly roots and doing it the right way. I had high hopes for South Philly Experience, especially knowing the owner is from Philly, but unfortunately, it just didn't deliver that authentic Philly cheesesteak flavor I was craving. The sandwich was okay, flavorful enough and served on a soft hoagie roll. The meat-to-bun ratio was decent. But overall, it tasted more like a California take on a cheesesteak than the real South Philly thing. One of the biggest letdowns for me was the ranch. I'm big on ranch, and theirs had a tangy profile that didn't add anything meaningful to the experience. It actually threw it off for me. While this wasn't the worst cheesesteak I've ever had, it also wasn't something I'd go back for. It simply didn't scratch that Philly itch. I've been to this place at least 20 times in the past two years! The food is so good. I've had the crab fries, Phillies, pasta salad ect everything's really good you can tell the ingredients are fresh! Great customer service too and cute outdoor seating! read more

We were searching for a good Philly Cheesesteak sandwich on our way to another destination and Yelp led us here. It did not disappoint. The service was good and our subs were tasty! When picking your cheese, we tried all 3 options but I would personally recommend getting the provolone. It's a small space with a walk up counter but there's adequate seating outdoors. We enjoyed it so much that we stopped for another order on our way back home. Will definitely be adding this one to our "repeat visit" list. read more

Ever since I had a real cheesesteak when I visited South Philadelphia for my Eagles, I've resisted ordering a cheesesteak from anywhere in SoCal. In fact I made my own, which was ok. Well today ladies and gentlemen, on the advice of a coworker I tried South Philly Experience. Ribeye, white sharp cheddar, salt pepper, mayo and ketchup on a delectable amoroso roll. It was amazing. Service was great, and when I placed my order, the young lady taking my order asked if I was from Philly, I said I've visited. Also should've know by the ambience when I walked in that it would be good, Eagles gear on the shelves! #GoBirds Overall, it's a very close second to my time in Philly (Reading Terminal Market). Great Philly cheesecake place in west LA!! My friend was craving this so we hopped in the car to get some for dinner. It was just before 5 so it wasn't super busy yet. Found metered parking right outside. The restaurant was small but really cute - tables outside. Ordered at the counter and they bring out the food to your table. Got the cheesesteak with provolone and onions, no peppers. Got an order of fries. My friend got a chicken sandwich with fries no salt Sandwich was huge as were the fries! I see now why she got no salt, they put a lot of salt. But everything was delicious and filling! Only ate half the sandwich and took the rest home. The cheese was melty, the meat was nicely seasoned, the peppers were the perfect amount, and the bread was the perfect pillowiness I was hoping for! MEH, all in caps. I've eaten here twice now. Once spurred on by the reviews, second because I was desperate and perhaps forgot (easy to do with such unmemorable food) that I'd tried this before. Per my usual at such places, I ordered a cheesesteak and an order of OG Buffalo wings. Neither were appetizing at all. The cheesesteak (first one with American, latter one with whiz) was bland (even with peppers) and was the consistency of a creamy chopped cheese - no emphasis on the meat at all. The "meat" portion went down like a pâté rather than a steak sandwich. Odd, though not offensive. Then the wings, I'll call them "FML Wings" because if you're looking for great "traditional" Frank's-drenched wings, these ain't them. I chose the "OG Buffalo" specifically for that beloved flavor, but for some reason this place must think that some fruity, weak and soggy concoction tossed over throw away pieces of chicken would pass for their faithful, but it sure didn't work for this guy. So, I'm done with South Philly and still looking for alternative decent cheesesteaks in LA. Until then, I'll take the NOT traditional but at least made well with good ingredient versions at Oui Melrose and Matu. read more

Considering we live in the valley, I wanted to hate this place and be able to say not worth the hype... and it is. It was worth the hour drive in LA traffic. It was worth the aggravation to get here because omg this was the best cheesesteak I've ever had. The girl at the counter was so sweet, the homemade sodas were such a treat, the cheesesteak was something I'll be craving and no other cheesecake will do and the fried raviolis were amazing! Crispy, not greasy and filled with ricotta. The cheesesteaks are HUGE and stuffed with meat and cheese. Had to pull up and show some East Coast love! Crazy to learn from Gabby that they've been there for years and I'm just finding them. Had a tough decision to make on which sandwich I wanted to be my first try, but I settled on the very good vodka sauce chicken parm. I can't get many decent chicken parm sandwiches out here in LA. Man SPE delivered the Steak! I luv luv luv cheessteaks, but good ones are few and far between in LA. Man South Philly Experience is Great. Had them bookmarked for a while finally made it in. Not quite a hole in the wall but a small shop on Pico , mid city. Splashy, drippy cheese graphics on the building make it easy to spot. Plenty of parking around the corner. Nice girl took my order, hitting the extras like onion and hot peppers. I forgot to say Wit. Older gentleman , owner type thanked me for coming in and delivered my sammy to outside sidewalk tables. I was surprised it seemed big and hefty. My first criticism is usually, could be bigger but not here. Generous size, big fluffy bun and stuffed with well seasoned meat and plenty of provolone and whiz (mandatory!). Mutha was hot and oh soooo satisfying. Yoooooo! Today is National Cheesesteak day so I decided that I had to eat one! I've always gone to Boo's, which is great, but this time I wanted to try something else. Found this place through a yelp search. I couldn't believe I've never seen it before as I live somewhat close and drive through this area all the time. I had no idea! Anyways, thanks yelp, because I did find South Philly Experience. I'm so glad I did! The location is really cool looking with great artwork on the exterior. They have tables set up on the sidewalk out front if you decided to eat there. I walked in to place a carryout order. Immediately I was greeted by a nice man and younger woman. They welcomed me and helped make recommendations for my order. They were so friendly. I even called my wife just to tell them how I've never been to a restaurant that had this cool of people operating it. Felt like home :) Anyways, got home and the food was amazing!!! I ordered the cheesesteak with American cheese and another with wizz that me and my wife shared. Both were fantastic. The bread was perfect and the amount of steak was overboard! Love this place! Um helloooo yum! Once again we were out and about and checked the list and decided to come here, yelp even had a star on it on the map so we went for it. The Italian sandwich was soooo good and we added banana peppers and pickles. But of course being the cheesesteak place we had to try out the meat so we got the cheesesteak egg rolls to test that out and wowza! Lovely shaved ribeye and the perfect cheese and other dipping sauce just wow lovely. This is definitely much more than a cheesesteak spot. If you're looking for a Pat's or Geno's, then this is not really the place...it's better. This reminds me of Delassandro's in Philly, which I think is one of the best cheesesteak places in Philly. I lived in Philly for more than 30 years and I got cheesesteaks like every other week and I was really looking for a real Philly steak since I moved to LA. South Philly Experience tastes authentic. They chop up their meat a bit finer than most of what I've had in the past. It fills up the Amoroso bun (which is the best bun for a cheesesteak). They give a generous portion of meat, and everything worked well in unison. I got the provolone which is to me a safer choice than Cheese Whiz (which in my experience is a hit or miss - it depends on what cheese whiz they're using, whether the factory mixed the whiz right for that particular jar/can, your taste buds that day, how much they slather whiz on there aka ratios...it can be great or it can make the sandwich overwhelmingly salty and artificial if there's too much). Sliced cheese rarely disappoints. They also had hot pepper relish! You have to get this on the side. If they have hot cherry peppers, then that would be golden, but I forgot to ask. Their fries are almost indistinguishable to McDonald's fries to me. I love that. Not much else to say. Great place. Will definitely come back to this spot if I'm in the area. read more
