We have been talking about eating at the Grill for a few years. We decided to try on Friday around 6 pm . There were 5 in our party including my 96 year old mother in law who is handicapped . Not thinking we would need a reservation we arrived to find out they had no available seats for a party of 5 . The dining room was empty with most tables marked with a reserved sign. The hostess tried to seat us in a both in the bar. When we complained she seated us at a table for 5 in the bar. The tables with the reserved signs began to fill up around 7 pm just as we were leaving. The service after the initial seating issue was excellent. The waiter was attentive and the food arrived in a reasonable time. The menu selection was plentiful with options ranging from dinner salads to full course meals. Our party had seared tuna, pork chops, beef, dinner salad and grouper. They were all prepared perfectly and were surprisingly reasonably priced. Our takeaway from dining at the Southeast Grill is make a reservation on weekends. We will try lunch service before I give it a higher rating. Unfortunately our negative interaction with the hostess did effect the rating. read more

We went here as a last-minute decision. I am glad we did. There is a bar in the front room and a more casual room for dining. The backroom is fancier with a beautiful view. I have eaten here twice for dinner & twice for lunch. Usually, I would have no complaint. Yesterday's 2nd lunch here was YUCK...!! Had the corn chowder with shrimp & the scallop entree. Both were specials. Barely any corn in the chowder...could I find the shrimp...???!!! The scallops had to be sliced down to less than 1/4" per piece; one scallop = 3-4 pieces. There were 6 downsized pieces of scallop....PATHETIC...!! I do KNOW the size of a sea scallop...!!!! The veggies were good. Staff are nice. read more

Great service, nice view out back (even on a rainy day), and the food was awesome. I had a boneless pork chop on special over potatoes and vegetables. Normally I would skip the potatoes but tasting these I ended up eating more than I left behind which is unusual. Service was friendly, the place has warm residential fell and the lake views gorgeous, I had a Caesar salad and fries/rings. Salad was fresh; fries were crisp but not excessively greasy. The big thing for me is value; after a costly divorce mishandled by the local shyster who pretends to have big firm, bills like crazy but doesn't know how or didn't bother pursuing my case I'm on a tight budget. Decided to try this place for fathers day; almost drove by it but it was nice inside with a nice view of the reservoir lake and a varied dinner menu; service was good; unfortunately they were out of the porterhouse hubby wanted; the clam chowder, house salad, lamb, and penne special were all delish. would go here again. read more

Loving this place. I have gone several times over the past year and their food just gets better and better. It has become one of the best places to get a steak (the hanger steak is AWESOME) or a burger (beating out The Blazer in Goldens Bridge which has slipped) Their wait staff and bartenders are great and always fun to talk to! I would highly recommend the Southeast Grille House in Brewster for an event. We had a surprise 70th birthday party for my Mother a few weeks ago and everything came off perfectly. Helen and her team were amazing. They were very flexible on time, offering to open early to do an early brunch just for us when scheduling became an issue (due to the time of year - confirmations and whatnot). Helen was very nice and totally straight-forward - no BS. Could not have been an easier event to plan. They were very flexible and accommodating on the menu and approach. The food is solid, not spectacular - perfect for our needs. And the prices were very reasonable, particularly for Northern Westchester/Putnam. The restaurant itself is simple but very versatile and perfect to take on some simple dressing up for a party. On a nice day (which we had), guests can access the lawn outside, which has a picturesque view of the river. And there's a magnificent magnolia tree which was beaming with color - a perfect backdrop for a quick photo shoot on a perfect day. read more

Our party of five just happened to stumble upon this pearl by coincidence. The outside and the welcoming bar room seemed a little off, but this impression quickly was surpassed by the restaurant part of the house. From this point onward not one of us was capable of finding the slightest reason for complaint - absolutly none. The service was perfect, the ambiente and flair was flawless and the food was breathtaking. I would have expected a chef of this quality in a premiere restaurant in Berlin or London but not in the little town of Brewster. If you are in the area I can think of no reason not to stop by, in particular when faced with prices around $20 per entree. My fazit: Epictastic - Five Stars straight. read more

This is a terrific little place that we happened to find because the Clocktower was closed, and we're glad we did! Sat outside in the beautiful back yard under a canopy overlooking the reservoir. I have been coming to the Southeast Grille House for several years now, and once I saw this "Murse" person's review I knew I had to call him out. I was there the night he wrote about. Him and his family were in the corner round table and I was in the table next to them with a friend. The family seemed to know the waitress and she was nothing but absolutely pleasant to them the entire evening. In fact, it seemed like she went out of her way to please them. Their kids got their food immediately and to say that they waited an hour and a half for food is a GROSS exaggeration. Also, (by that time I admit I was eavesdropping) from what I understood, they did in fact comp his meal that he "didn't enjoy" (but ate every last bit of). I understand that yelp is for people to write about their experiences whether it be good or bad; however, he crossed the line when he started telling outright lies, cursing and taking unnecessarily rude personal blows at the staff. The minute you go onto his yelp profile you will realize that he is an insane, disgusting man who trolls around yelp trying to take down businesses. Any sane person would just skip over his review entirely and completely disregard anything he has to say. As far as my meal, it was delicious and perfectly cooked as always. The waitress was a complete doll and I had a lovely time. Thank you Southeast Grille House for consistently being a truly wonderful restaurant, I wish I could give you 6 stars! read more

Stopped by last night just to try something new for dinner and me and my family were definitely pleasantly surprised! It's a cute local restaurant, the environment is nice and clean, not too small, and I personally loved the beautiful view of the reservoir right outside. The food was delicious, I'm a vegetarian so I ordered a vegetable ravioli dish and I will definitely be coming back for more!! the service was great (very welcoming!) and we didn't have to wait too long for our table. We went for the second time last night and this place was 2 for 2! First time around we ordered a baked clams appetizer from the specials menu. My wife said they were the best she ever had. My wife ordered the penne with chicken which came with a creamy, yet light and flavorful sauce. I ordered the sliced hanger steak which had a merlot demi-glace, crumbled gorgonzola, mixed vegetables and potato. I couldn't get enough of it! Round 2 my wife did a repeat performance of her penne and I tried the lemon chicken, which contained a lemon chardonnay sauce. Was outstanding! Accompanying us were two of our dearest friends. They enjoyed their meals as well. For the four of us, the total cost came to $148 which included a bottle of wine and tip. Very reasonable! The bread was delicious too! The restaurant has 2 rooms; one a bar area to enjoy drinks and appetizers, while watching the game, and the other room; a nice atmosphere with a window peering through a beautifully landscaped backdrop, leading to the reservoir. I went here for a late week night dinner at their pub/bar. I sampled the beers on tap because they were not the run of the mill for a steak house. I can say I had a hard time deciding which one because they were all good. Thy started off with freshly poped popcorn with just a hint of salt. I was the good kind. I had the meat loaf with mushroom gravy on mashed potato served in a hot mini-skillet and cooked carrots on the side. All were great. The mashed potatoes were from scratch. The carrots were cooked al dente with orange zest and not just boiled in plain water and the meat mixture of the meat loaf was first rate. My partner had the kayle salade with roasted walnuts and she wouldn't let me steal another bite. I can't wait to go back and try their assortment of ribs. They had about 10 high res TV's over the bar with the Mets and PGA playing. While we were there, the regulars were line-dancing to honkytonk music so it you hate this kind of music go elsewhere. In the middle of the restaurant is a bull riding gizmo and I was told that you can pick your own spead. I have had so many broken bones that I'll skip this event. Service was friendly but a little slow. It took a while to get served as the bar was crouded. That is why they got only 4 stars from me. I'll be back. read more

As we walked in the place we were hit with a bad odor of god only knows what. That was the mistake we should have left then. The food was not very good. The waitress walked up and put a large chalk board on the open seat at our table. This board had all the specials. She stood there as we read it to our selves. Then asked if we had question. I order chicken dish and it was dry as a desert. We also ordered the scallops which had a weird odor to them. We told the waitress about the issues and nothing was done. They did not offer to make a different dish. The check came and for $147 you would think we had a seven course dinner. Not the case. We went home and made soup. To be fair I am a person that preferes food without all the fancy shmancy. Food was excellent. Salmon was cooked to perfection and not a bit "dry" to the palate. Crab cake sandwich on a bun that was grilled and not cold or simply warmed was the touch that showed this cook knows what counts in the details. The meal was fine, not great so I think the prices are too high here. I had the breaded scallops and they weren't even whole. Some were ripped pieces or scallop. For the money, give me 4 or 5 full scallops instead of 10 pieces. I've bee we even had pieces before. Honestly, the rice and vegetables were so good though, so my meal wasn't a total loss. My husband had the pork chop and thought it was good. Wine list was good. No beers on tap I think though, which seems weird. Service was very good. Place is very open, but noisy. Prices are high for a mediocre meal. Took a while to get seat, took a while to get a drink and took a while to get our meals. We got the crab cake appetizer that was pretty good. My husband had the hanger steak and it said it was alright and I got fish special that was not my favorite. The waitress realized and did give us the choice of having a free desert. We had the bread pudding that we thoroughly enjoy. We even ordered another to bring home to our girls. Prices for food and beverages are really expensive here, not worth it. read more
