What an unexpectedly great coffee shop. This place is a real gem in town. As a person who doesn't drink cow's milk, sometimes I shy away from places. I like milk in my tea but obviously that's not an option at many places. Soy milk, almond milk and even macadamia milk. I was pretty happy with that and even happier when most of the coffees and teas are organic. We ordered our coffee and teas and passed on the delicious looking desserts and breakfast but will be back for that. The girls that were working were so nice and friendly, how could your morning not start out great. The quality of product here was top notch and is much appreciated. What a cost little place to come and grab a cup of coffee during the winter! It was packed full of people when we came, but it was worth it. They have wonderful coffee and plenty of space at community tables and couches. I tried the special of the day, French Toast Cinnamon Crunch, and it tasted just like the cereal. My boyfriend went back twice for their drip coffee, which he rarely does. They have plenty of.other options if you don't want coffee, such as tea, wine, beer, and more. The 4 of us split a bottle and ordered some apps. The quesadillas were surprisingly filling and tasty, while the hummus platter was fresh with a variety of vegetables. Hi Friends, So great to find a terrific coffee joint in the oceanfront neighborhoods east of Jacksonville. So many times, all I find are either 87 Starbucks or some ole guy whose coffee tastes more like filter than grounds. Now, I'm not sure if this is a chain or just a one off, but the brew was fantastic. The room has a nice vibe to it, you can most likely sit for hours and either write the great Albanian novel or plot world domination. But I just stopped in for some caffeine. Lots of hype. And I must admit that the outdoor seating area is inviting and cute. But the breakfast offerings are not exceptional. The croissants are certainly flakey; the muffins aren't bad; and the coffee is hot. But it's difficult to get past the exceedingly slow and inefficient counter service. There was only one person working the register with a long line of customers waiting to place orders. I saw too many employees standing around -- they could have been helping at the second register. This a great place to grab a coffee and breakfast! The coffee was so good, I had a large vanilla latte and also ordered a California bagel sandwich! It was SO good! It was made to order and you can tell it was made with fresh ingredients. The place was busy and when we got a table it had plates of food and empty coffee cups. When my coffee was dropped off they didn't take the rubbish.. I assumed they would pick it up when they dropped my friends coffee off but no... it wasn't until our food was dropped off that it was removed. That was the only complaint we had. They were out of paper menus (on a Saturday) and the line was long so we felt rushed to order the first thing we could see once we got to the menu. The Greek wrap was drowning in tzatziki and the lamb was cold. We sent it back. The breakfast wrap was alright. Nothing special. Kind of cold. The cortado came without sugar. Is that normal? Every authentic cortado I've ever had is supposed to taste like diabetes. I could be wrong about this though. We had to wait for our Rosè bc it was chilling. You don't refrigerate your brunch wines before a Saturday morning?? When we got it it was sour and sparkling. I would have loved to been informed that it was sparkling before wasting my money. No silverware was ever brought to the table, we were lucky to have ordered wraps. But did have to go inside for sugar and a spoon for my coffee. They can do better. read more

Where do I begin...we get to Southern Grounds and it's PACKED, fine I understand, find a table and wait in line for 20 minutes. I ordered food for me and my friend and got the coffee right away. Waited 45 minutes for our food and I received the wrong order, like totally wrong, and brought it up to the girl and she goes "let me get that resolved for you" thirty minutes go by and I stopped her and asked "hey! Was this resolved at all?" I was approached with a flustered and irritated "uh i dont know". Well...okay. Another 30 minutes go by and I'm just over it so I go inside because now I just want to leave and get a refund and I told them inside I never received my food and the people behind the counter responded with a "okay, you can leave your number right there" at this point I really just wanted to go home because I was starving and could honestly make the sandwich at home. We've stopped by here several times in the past year but I keep forgetting to write a review. This is more than a coffee shop as they have food and drinks. However, we have only had coffee and muffins. The most recent visit we had a total of 5 with 3 of us getting coffee to go. We ordered fairly quickly and then attempted to find a place out of the way of everyone. This is one thing this shop needs...is somewhere out of the way for those waiting for a to go. We ordered a muffin, 1 cortado, 1 peppermint chai and one coffee (can't remember what husband ordered). The muffin came out pretty quickly but we noticed the wait for drinks because we were constantly moving here and there to get out of server and customer paths. We found a corner and settled in. By this time I decided to check my clock as it already seemed like we were waiting a while. 22 minutes is how long we waited and yes it was fairly busy with the holiday crowd but there wasn't a line when we arrived. I can only assume the hold up was that everyone sitting had ordered drinks and food just before we arrived. I'm still giving them 4 stars. 1. Service at checkout is very courteous, 2. The vibe is great here, 3. Coffee is delicious eventhough on this visit my husband commented that his was luke warm (mine was extremely hot so I was happy), 4. Good muffins. read more

Friendly staff were ready to greet us on a foggy Monday morning. The coffee was fresh and energizing. I enjoyed a fresh sesame bagel with lox and cream cheese, which came with onions, tomato and capers in the side so you are able to dress to your liking. This cozy cafe totally satisfied my northeastern craving of lox and bagel. They also have a wine selection and larger menu for what looks like lunch and dinner. The shrimp tacos were anemic, the salad wasn't fresh, and my sister's chicken salad had a bone in it - thankfully, she realized that it was not safe before swallowing the bones. Unfortunately, she nearly cracker her tooth and definitely gagged. Needless to say, she did not finish her meal. We paid nearly $80 for a lunch that we threw away. We will not return. No idea how this restaurant and their San Marco sister store are run by the same people - The San Marco location has NEVER disappointed. This location? Disappointing at best. I was there early morning during the week. With my baby daughter. The music was so loud , that I could not understand the waitress, neither could she understand me. I ordered a honey bee lavender latte / decaf with almond milk. And a bacon and egg cheese croissant. I think Mc Donald's has a better croissant. The Croissant was see picture , greasy ( i am aware that a croissant is greasy and cheese too) and really not pretty. And they wanted $7,50 for that. After that I was still hungry. I received a decaf plain coffee with milk and that lavender Sirup. Not a steamed milk latte with decaf espresso. After I asked the waitress , she said I have to come in and get it checked. I was breastfeeding so that needed to wait. But she came out anyway, because the croissant came out with sausage and not bacon, and she said that I ordered a decaf plain coffee, and that I should watch out what I am ordering next time. She did not apologize and was very rude. I did not feel welcome and she made it as if it was my fault. Then she brought out the coffee but not with almond milk like ordered, but with whole milk . She had to come and bring a new one again . She was not amused. And she showed that clearly to me. Looks like the chef and bartender were not yet awake and made mistakes all the time with my order.
